    Brisket queso to go
    Bonnie W.

I exclusively by the chilled products here. Dined in and liked the food, been picking up meats here ever since. They have excellent pulled pork. We like to make stuffed poblanos at home with their pulled pork and top it with their queso. Easy to grab and go, they have lots of products vacuum packed already chilled or frozen.

The chicken wings. Everything was good, but the chicken wings were great! They are smoked, and then fried. They also make a threeso, which is a three cheese queso ‍in a very relaxed, inviting, family- friendly environment where you can walk- in and seat yourself. The food was fast and hot and the customer service was accommodating.

We wandered in after the lunch rush on a Thursday, driven by this spot's high praise and its place of honor in my 'Yelp BBQ collection.' A warm greeting set the tone in the nearly empty dining area. Having done my homework, I had my heart set on the dry-rub chicken wings, despite my husband's skepticism. Trust me, I knew they'd win him over. We also grabbed the lunch deal: a sandwich (brisket, naturally), borracho beans, and a creamy jalapeño corn side that intrigued me (cinnamon in the corn, maybe?). The wings--get the HOUSE RUB, seriously--were life-changing. Crispy, sweet, spicy perfection. Hubby had to admit I was right (a rare win I'll cherish). The brisket sandwich was solid, but those sides stole the show. Beans? On point. Corn? Addictive. Of course we needed to finish off our meal with a little dessert, the peach churro cobbler and some divine vanilla ice cream. Owners Matt & Trisha bring passion and pride to their food, and they're happy to chat if you're game. (Pro tip: engage, they've got stories!) The other staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, and even the bathrooms sparkled. We'll definitely be back--those wings alone are worth the trip.

Strouderosq had phenomenal BBQ, and the sweetest people working there. It's a small restaurant but they are really attentive. We loved the brisket!

Sausage was great but their borracho beans were the worst beans Ive ever had. Brisket was pretty meh as well compared to everywhere else.

I need to talk about Central Market on Lovers Lane and I need to talk about BP and I need to talk…read moreabout the produce section and I only have so many words so let's move. The produce section first because if I do not address it immediately I will think about it the whole time. Walking into the Central Market produce section is the closest a grocery store has ever come to making me feel like a child at Disney World. Not Disney World adjacent. Not Disney World inspired. Full Disney World. There are colors happening in that produce section that I did not know vegetables were capable of. Heirloom tomatoes in seventeen shades. Peppers that look like they were designed by an artist who was told to make a pepper but make it fashion. Mushrooms with names I cannot pronounce displayed like they are artifacts from a civilization that understood fungi better than we do. I have walked in there for one specific item and come out forty minutes later with things I have never cooked before and a quiet optimism about my future in the kitchen that has not always proven accurate but always feels real in the moment. I went once just for garlic. One head of garlic. I left with dragon fruit, three kinds of fresh pasta, a bunch of herbs that required me to look up two of them when I got home, and a wheel of cheese that I told myself was practical. It was not practical. I regret nothing. Now BP. BP runs the prepared foods counter at Central Market Lovers Lane and is the reason I sometimes drive there when I am not even hungry. BP was a high school math teacher in California for years. Years. Shaping young minds, writing equations on whiteboards, presumably grading papers on weekends with the quiet resignation of someone who has chosen a noble and exhausting profession. And then at some point BP looked at California, looked at Dallas, made a decision, and moved. He did most of the moving himself. I want you to think about that. This man, who spent years teaching mathematics, looked at a truck full of his belongings and said I will handle this personally. The kind of move that requires a certain stubbornness and also a pretty solid understanding of spatial reasoning which, given the math background, he had covered. BP is now behind the prepared foods counter at Central Market and is genuinely one of the warmest humans I have encountered on either side of a deli case. He talks to you like he has time, which in a prepared foods counter context is unusual and should be protected at all costs. He knows what is good that day. He will tell you. You should listen. Excellent store. Exceptional produce section. BP is the best part of the prepared foods counter and possibly of Lovers Lane entirely.

I decided to make some homemade pickles and went to this Kroger because it is so close to our home…read more I needed some fresh dill and horseradish. They were out of dill. I did not see any horseradish so I asked the man who was working in the produce section if they had any. He pretended not to hear me. So I repeated my question. He gave me a look like "WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING ME?" He said he did not know what horseradish was. I told him it's a root vegetable. So, first he pointed to where the bagged lettuce is located. Then he said, "I only work this half of the fresh produce, you need to ask someone else." That my friends, is the epitome of customer service at this Kroger. I have despised this Kroger for a long time for bad service, empty shelves, deceptive adverting, produce that has no taste, etc etc. The only reason I go here is because it is close. But it is far down my list of preferred grocery stores.

Their cashier Eva over charged me, I was buying mixers for a party and had sodas, topo, juices,…read moretonic, etc. they have ads saying buy 2 sodas get 2 free so I got 12 total. Should've been charged for 6 sodas after the rebate but no, I was charged for full price 12 of the 24 packs. Also I noticed right when I got in my car this woman had charged me for 4 topo Chico when I only got 3. She was rude saying I don't need to put all of my products on the counter 'cause she knows how to count. Apparently you don't 'cause charged me extra for topo and for sodas. Got my topo Chico but still overpaid for the sodas. Either she doesn't count good or is just messing with customers to benefit the store. If you don't like cashiering there is a stocker position you can fill or something else ma'am
