I stopped by Hurtado Barbecue on a Saturday morning 20 minutes before they opened and there were only two parties ahead of us. By the time the store opened, the line had grown to being over twenty parties long, so plan accordingly if you don't want to be waiting for a while. Between the four in our party, we shared a three meat BBQ plate with bacon burnt ends, brisket, and their house made sausage. For our two sides, we chose their hatch chile mac n cheese and their Mexican street corn. Following the recommendations of many Yelpers, we also ordered two of the brisket tostadas and two of the birria tacos. When we received our plate of meat, I was a bit surprised at how little of each meat there was on the plate, but in hindsight, this ended up being the perfect amount of food, where everyone was able to get a sample of everything. Of the items we ordered, my favorite was definitely the burnt ends. These were melt in your mouth tender, and was insanely rich and decadent. Each of the three pieces in our order had a beautiful bark on the outside that resulted in a satisfying crunch with every bite. The casing to the sausage was snappy and the sausage itself was very juicy. The brisket was fall apart tender. The brisket was a bit light on seasoning, so I ended up using the Aztec Gold BBQ sauce they had sitting at the table with it. The sides that we chose were both delicious. The pasta in the mac n cheese was cooked perfectly and the noodles was generously sauced. The elote was sweet and smokey, and the Cotija cheese added creaminess to the side. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Hurtado Barbecue and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit if you're in Texas and are looking for great tasting BBQ. read more

The Texas Twinkie is a jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and brisket and wrapped in bacon. It was my favorite item as the cream cheese and bacon balanced out the spiciness of the jalapeño. In a fairly crowded (small) commercial/residential area, limited parking close (it seemed, but I am not familiar with the area). Has a small indoor seating area and some outdoor seating (which, based on the temp that afternoon, I couldn't believe people were hanging out outside. Anyway, I digress. Make it inside and peruse the menu (above your head on a board)...order the "Texas Trinity" (brisket, ribs, sausage and one side). Find a seat on a bar stool kind of thing (considering how few tables there are inside I didn't want to take one since it was just me). Food Arrives. (service was good). Here's my notes on the food: Sausage: has cheese in it. didn't see that anywhere on the menu, but I didn't look for it either because (in my opinion) Texas BBQ and sausage WITHOUT CHEESE are the real deal. Also seemed really greasy. Brisket: dry. tasted ok, just dry. Ribs: way too much black pepper in the rub. Black pepper overwhelms any other flavor in the ribs. Not overly tender, you had to work at it a little to get the meat off the bone. Tasted good once you got past the black pepper.Also seemed greasy. Hatch Chili Mac-and-Cheese. Phenomenal. Best thing I ate there. All in all I'd give Hertado's a solid 3.5 stars out of 5. I will say not all recommendations are good recommendations. At least not for this place. First time in Dallas and was highly influenced to try this establishment. I must say I was not pleased. It was very underwhelming. Don't get me wrong this seems to be a very popular local and touristy establishment that may enjoy. Upon walking up the line was coming out the door, so expectations were extremely high. This is a cafeteria style restaurant where you go through the line. It moves quick so kind of know what you want prior to reaching the front of the line. The prices are a bit high, but if shared with someone it's pretty reasonable. The brisket was dry and the amount you get for the price, was NOT worth it. The pulled pork lacked flavor, even though it was drizzled with some sort of sauce. The elote corn was fairly decent. I could order this again along with the Mac and cheese. I did get a Texas Twinkie which was a bit different from another I had while in Dallas. The flavor is definitely there, but this one had pimento cheese inside, which pimento cheese is definitely an acquired taste. If you want dessert the banana pudding was very good. Seating is very limited inside, but they do offer outdoor seating with plenty of tables. I'm sure the Texas heat could deter you from eating outside on those extremely hot days. We lucked out with lunch on a Friday timing! It was busy inside because of recent rain storms, and there was a bit of a line to order - the line moved quick and we were able to find a table outside by the bar that was covered. They had someone at the line taking orders on a device, only problem was no one was making sure the menus were stocked when you walked in....so until people saw a menu they didn't know what to order and that was holding up the efficiency of having someone taking orders before getting to the register. We looked on here to get the menu so we were prepared. Disappointed to find out that the beef rib was not an option for the plate meals and could only be bought at the by pound à la carte option but that the bone itself was at least a pound already...needless to say we did not get to try to beef rib. Everything else we did have was okay. The burnt ends were chillin in a pool of oil in its little tray....could not finish them. We really liked the brisket and my husband liked his brisket baked potato a lot! As the first stop on my Texas BBQ tour, the expectations were sky-high. The Atmosphere & Service First impressions: immaculate. The Tacos I dove straight into the signature items: the Brisket Taco and the Barbacoa Taco. The execution was solid, and the tortillas held up well, but I found myself at a bit of a crossroads. The brisket taco, while tender, relied quite heavily on the birria dipping sauce to carry the flavor home. On its own, the meat didn't quite have that punchy, standalone bark I was hunting for, though the sauce itself was excellent. The Sides: While people come for the meat, they might just stay for the sides. The potato salad was executed to perfection! balanced, creamy, and a classic palate cleanser. However, the Mac and Cheese was the real standout. I'd comfortably put this in my "top 5 restaurant macs" of all time. It's rich, decadent, and worth the trip on its own. At $6 per taco, the price point sits in that premium bracket, and at that cost, I generally expect the meat to provide a transcendent flavor profile without needing a secondary sauce as a crutch. Rolling through Arlington,Tx I had to stop at a place labeled as Tex-Mex barbecue called Hurtado. Tex-Mex barbecue! What is that? I've never heard of such and I'm fromTexas. I arrived on a Saturday around 6pm and the line was out the door. The line did have a consistent flow and all the food was available that was on the menu. As with most barbecue places look and presentation of the food and establishment can be a little rough and not so glamorous, but it fits the food because bbq can get down right messy. A small amount of seating is available on the inside but most is outside. I ordered a 2 meat plate (1/4 pound each) with 2 sides for $26 and a birria taco. It was about a 10 min wait for the food and the taco was brought out about 10 min after that. This was the Lone Star state's tex-mex barbecue at its best. The sliced turkey, although processed, had a nice smokey flavor presence. The brisket was succulently tender, moist, and carried a good seasoned bark on top. I learned that I'm not a fan of birria tacos. They are too wet on a hard shell taco for my liking, but the taste was fine. The sauce was smokey and sweet, but I've had better and not much was needed. The sides accompanied the meat very well. The mexican street corn was reminiscent of elote with a mayo base, cheese, cilantro, and lime. We arrived at Hurtado about thirty minutes before opening, and all the other bbq fans were waiting in their cars, so we did the same. About ten minutes later, a new group showed up and began to line up, so one by one we got out of our cars to join the line. Once they opened, it was only about ten minutes to move through the line, order, and take our seats. The restaurant itself is cozy and clean, and the service line was quick. Staff were courteous and friendly. Brisket: tender, bark was peppery goodness, great smoke. My son and I tried at least ten of the "top 50" bbq places while on this bbq road trip through Dallas/Ft Worth, Waco, Austin, Lockhart, and Houston, and Hurtado was consistently the one we kept referring back to as the standard. The all the beef we order was covered in a thick layer of black pepper the beef ribs had cracked black pepper .063 thick you couldn't even taste the beef much less the smoke its been my experience the more season you use on bbq the more evidence you don't know WTF you're doing and probably using old pallet wood to smoke and it wasn't just me that noticed it everyone at the party noticed and was washing the meat by rinsing bottled water over it, it was tough and over cooked probably smoke at 350° on a pellet grill if you want good BBQ don't come here. I live in Seattle and I first learned about this place watching a "Meat Church" BBQ video. I made their pork belly burnt ends myself and hoped i would get to eat at the restaurant in person some day. Quick trip to Dallas presented the opportunity to come and check them out! The young lady that took my order was VERY PATIENT with me and helped me order. She gave me a sample of the turkey and it was nicely smoked and had a good flavor. I ordered a 3 meat platter: 1 - brisket - this was as a bit disappointing. It was a little dry and only the fat side had "bark." They probably could have trimmed some of the fat off too. 2 - pork belly burnt ends - loved this and it was similar to the bork belly burnt ends I have made on my Traeger smoker/grill! 3 - the ribs were my FAVORITE. Great flavor, moist and juicy, and wished I had more ribs and less brisket. For my sides I did the Hatch Mac n cheese. Loved it!!! Just enough spice and really enjoyed the hatch chilies with the cheese. Also got the street corn. It had too much sauce but was good corn. Next time I would just get roasted corn. Also got the "tres leches" banana pudding for dessert. I really liked the dessert. Nice Spanish twist on banana pudding. Instead of vanilla wafers they use "galletas Maria" and it really worked. We came by on a weekday during the lunch hours and it was not crowded but they did have a line that simply moved fast and efficient that was managed by the staff to get the guest in and seated as quickly as possible. Ordering was easy as to where you simply let the staff know what you would like, and they will give you a ticket you present to the cashier. There was menu boards posted that was clear and visual to read with prices and serving sizes. They also have merch to sell like BBQ sauce, Prickly pear, and cookbooks. We decided to order a brisket tostada, hatch chili mac n cheese, 1/2 lb spareribs, green beans sauteed with chorizo, Mexican corn bread, brisket elote, and fries. We sat outside in an open clean space with benches and tables. They also had silverware and napkins along with jugs of ice water at every corner. They also have a small bar located in the seating area that serves adult beverages. The food was ready in no time and our friendly server brought our food to us in a jiffy! The food was looking exquisite, and I couldn't wait to dive in, but we all know the camera eats first! The brisket tostada was stacked with luscious juicy brisket garnished with cilantro, sliced onions and cojito cheese laying on a bed of smooth refried beans and a crunchy tostada. The star of the show was 2 massive fall off the bone pork ribs that were O so flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The mac n cheese was very creamy and cheesy with a nice flavor profile of hatch chiles. The brisket elote was very tasty with brisket piled high over a bed of corn garnished with lime and cojito cheese. The green beans were fresh green beans that were cooked al dente presenting a nice snap back with chunks of chorizo sausage. The Mexican corn bread was super moist and flavorful but yet I don't know exactly everything inside, but it is definitely worth checking out. Altogether I really enjoyed this place due to the amazing food they offer, and the excellent customer service provided. The ambiance is in a lovely setting for BBQ and the organization was ran smoothly and efficiently. They also have another location in Mansfield as well as a stall in Globe Life Field. read more

When I dine out I have a strong preference to dine in not to go to a restaurant to carry my food out unless it's just pizza. Hurtado is located in an area where parking is not excellent. Once inside seating is not excellent either. It is not the least bit spacious with very limited seating inside. There's a lot of outdoor seating but in January in 40 degree weather I'm not willing to sit outside when there's plenty of restaurants to sit inside, warm and enjoying your meal. Hurtado has spicy hot Mac and cheese. My 4 year old little cutie pie powered through because she really loves mac and cheese. It's super popular though so if you love barbecue it's certainly worth a try. The washable, reusable cups with the restaurant logo are nice. read more

Great service. Everything came out quick and efficient. Beef ribs were tender and smoky, brisket was juicy with great bark, and the house-made sausage was packed with flavor. Solid Texas BBQ done right. One of the best spots in Arlington! Would definitely come back! read more

Looked for a local bbq restaurant by the stadium and found Hurtado. The reviews steered me right and we had a blast! The servers were nice and fun and kept the good vibes going! Quick and easy ordering. Got our food and kept going to the game! Incredible BBQ and may have been my favorite from my trip. Our family loved the brisket and the elote! We were blessed with great weather and enjoyed our food and drinks in the outside patio. Mac and cheese was great but a little too spicy for the boys. The bourbon selection was great!
