My experience at Mary Sue Hot Chicken in Arlington, Texas, was phenomenal! I called in my order around 8:30, and they were able to take my order without any issues. I did receive the wrong flavor of chicken initially, but they immediately corrected it. I actually insisted that they didn't have to, but they insisted on making it right, which I really appreciated. I ended up bringing the extra food to my friend at work, and she absolutely loved the Nashville wet-rub chicken. I personally loved the regular fried spicy chicken! What makes this chicken spot different from other chicken places is the attention to the details. You get whole wings, a healthy amount of fries, and fresh bread that is buttery, slightly sweet, and delicious. And then they gave me a complimentary cinnamon roll! I could immediately tell it was homemade from scratch. It was warm, buttery, soft, and sweet, and the icing was TOP-TIER. That cinnamon roll alone deserves recognition! Overall, the food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the customer service was amazing. Even when there was a mistake with my order, they made sure to correct it and went above and beyond to make the experience right. We stopped by Mary's Sue's Hot Chicken on Sunday for lunch, and overall it was a really good experience. From the outside, I expected it to be a smaller spot, but it was actually much bigger than I thought. Everything inside was clean, and even though there were a few people ahead of us in line, the process was simple--you order first, then grab your food and find a table. The cashier who helped us was super nice, which made the experience even better. We both ordered lemonade teas--one peach and one watermelon--and they were honestly a 10/10. Not too sweet, more on the tangy side, which I loved. It wasn't overly crowded--maybe around 10-12 people inside, with a couple more eating outside--so it felt comfortable. We ordered the chicken with the sweet spicy flavor, along with fries, mac and cheese, pickle sticks, and rolls. Everything came out fresh and tasted really good. There was about a 10-15 minute wait, but that's expected for fresh food and totally worth it. The presentation was great, and overall the food hit. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the dough babies, they were a little too thick for me, just a bit too much bread, although the flavor itself was still good. Overall, I'd give it an 8/10. Came in right at opening on a Friday and had amazing service from the jump!! The food was hot and fresh and was soooo tasty. Everything down to the pickles were homemade and full of witflavor. Their Mary Sue's sauce is a seasoned honey mustard that is simply delicious. Had to bring some home and share with my neighbors. The person behind the counter was telling us all the new menu items they're releasing, including their homemade vanilla ice cream!! What a fun atmosphere! Nice cashier and very helpful while ordering on our first time. We both got #2 8 piece tenders. I got Nashville dry, Mac n' cheese with Peach tea and he got plain with Nashville sweet and spice on the side, fries and a Dr. Pepper. We loved everything including the Ranch We also ordered Dough Babies... they were delicious. My absolute unexpected favorite part were the rolls. I wish I would have ordered 6 to go . I stopped by during lunch. The lunch crowd seemed to be very steady. I probably waited about 20 mins for my food. Darnisha helped me place my order. Even though there were a few people in line she was so patient taking my order. It was my first time visiting their establishment, and I asked her a few questions. She didn't rush at all. She took her time to go over the popular choices and drinks from the menu. Even telling us the history behind the business. She had excellent customer service skills. I went with the Mary Sue's #1. I got my chicken dry and added the sweet and spicy sauce on the side. I went with mac and cheese as my side order. For my drink I saw everyone ordering the watermelon strawberry lemonade, and I got that as well. That drink was so good!!! It wasn't even that sweet which makes it perfect. Very refreshing! My meal was fresh, and I love how they give you ranch and honey mustard sauce to go along with your meal. I particular wasn't a fan of the sweet and spicy sauce. The Mac and cheese tasted good, not the best I've had. I did really like the taste of the Nashville dry chicken. Inside was clean with a good amount of seating. Okay I'm not sure what happened on my most recent visit. Several tables were dirty. The gentleman at the register was jovial and kind as were all the employees I encountered. I ordered my food to go. I waited about 20 minutes for my food and received free dough babies for my wait : ) I got home 15 minutes after ordering, my chicken was piping hot and yummy. The fries were odd. It tasted like they were stale and had been dropped in oil to make them seem fresh. They were inedible, so I put them in the trash where they belonged. My bun was burnt and stale. My food container was dirty with food stains. Its not okay I pay my hard earned money for stale food thats inedible. I hope it was an off day. This was my second visit to this restaurant. My first visit was a perfect 5 stars. Hence, the reason I'm so confused about my second visit. Theres also a 4% fee if you pay by credit card. I learned he was owner Kevin he gave me some background information on his business as we were talking he went to back and came back with 3 doughs they were amazing hot and so good.I noticed this portrait with Journee on it questioned him about and he explained a fundraiser was done to support her and he kept it up . Today we happened to luck up on an experience of a lifetime. We stumbled upon this unexpected diamond in the rough as we were getting our tires rotated at Discount Tire in order to continue our excursion to Colorado. Kevin also talked about the essence of the soul and the spiritual connection through repetition and cognitive remembrance. This was fascinating to me and very refreshing. He even made a noise at the woman ahead of me -- already uncomfortable. Inside, the service was just as bad. The cashier was rude and inattentive for no reason. I asked if they offered whole pieces of chicken, and she looked at me sideways and replied, "We only got a 1, 2, or 3 combo." Before I could finish ordering, she cut me off, repeated back my order, and gave me the total. At that same moment, another staff member shouted across the counter, "We ain't got no mo' macaroni and cheese! Don't order no mo'." At that point, I decided my peace was more important than forcing it. I walked out without ordering anything -- and I won't be back.
