A hidden gem. When I think BBQ, I think of stores opened for decades where the wood paneling are stained and soaked with smoke, western decor and usually a stand-alone building looking out of place. So imagine my surprise when I discovered this place, new and part of a strip center. I saw the reviews and decided to try it. I had the 2-meat platter with pulled pork & smoked turkey breast, wife had hot links and sliced brisket. All were good. As a Texan, I'm almost embarrassed to admit I prefer pulled pork over brisket, but both were really good. Hot links were actually spicy. I was surprised. Turkey was really good as well. Not a bad side with our order either. Beans, Cole slaw, Green Beans and Broccoli & Cheese Casserole. All, very good. Wife had the banana pudding and demolished it before I had a chance to try a spoonful. Staff is nice and friendly. Really enjoyed it and will be back. read more

This was some of the worst bbq I've ever had. I was so excited to go to eat bbq as soon as I got to Texas and I was sooooo disappointed. Everything was bland and overcooked. I literally had pork ribs that were jerky. Also, all the bbq sauces we were offered didnt help the situation. Sides were all undesirable. Wish I would've walked back out instead of ordering. 5 stars for the Texas Star. Small spot,big flavor. Brisket had a perfect bark, was juicy, had a tender pull. Ribs, fall of the bone tender, great smokiness, meaty. Sides we're spectacular. The mac was pot cooked rather than baked with a cheddary crust. The broccoli cheese casserole was pretty good though. Texas toast went through too fast so it wasn't toasted enough. For the price though, at a sit down bbq joint, was a ton of flavor and on the generous portion size to be close to $5 below the usual chain restaurants. This is a cozy hometown family owned and operated business that deserves the foot traffic it's getting. I'm home,but still have good bbq smoke wafting off my shirt. Gotta love that real wood aroma. People working the line didn't seem to know what they were doing, so that wasn't a promising start. The meats were tasty, but cold. Sides weren't great, beans tasted like canned ranch beans and the broccoli rice casserole was horrible, cheese tasted like canned nacho cheese. Cold and hard dinner roll, please serve either plain white bread or better yet butter toasted texas toast! read more

This is probably one of the worst places I have ordered BBQ from. I also ordered a peach cobbler dessert and it's so burnt and dried up! The brisket was ice cold. It doesn't matter if it was 20 minutes away, it's shouldn't be ICE cold. read more

Visiting from LA on a work trip, I wanted to grab a bite of something local before flying back home and I'm so glad I did. Everything on my plate was out-of-this-world delicious. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful in guiding me through the options. My only problem now is wondering if I'll ever find BBQ this good back in Los Angeles probably not! The brisket was so juicy (and it didn't even appear that fatty) Is it magic? Maybe. The pork ribs were fallin right off the bone. My test with any bbq joint is whether I can eat the meat without bbq sauce and love it. This place passes with flying colors. However, don't be skimpin on that bbq sauce. The place is cozy (small) but clean. The men behind the counter were very polite and friendly. The food though was very disappointing. The place was overpowered with the stench of smoke but yet there was no smoke rings to be found any where on the food. It's not down home BBQ that's for sure. I won't be going back. My wife and I just had lunch there. We had the 2 meat plate with Ribs and brisket. They were both great. We had fries and potato salad as sides. Except for missing bacon bits, the potato salad was as good as my German grandmothers. The fries were cooked perfectly and we even enjoyed their mild sauce. My specialty is brisket, it appears the Texas Star Barbecue specializes in EVERYTHING! I literally think you would be shocked at how good everything is no matter what you order. The service was also second to none... I asked the owner how he can cook this well. Instead of a canned answer I got his whole life story including introducing me to his brother, who also works there, and some other family members who happened to be there. I wanted to try a dessert, either the banana pudding or peach cobbler. I tried to ask which one he recommended but he thought I asked for both (lol) so I ended up getting charged for two desserts. I had a taste for some decent rib tips so I decided to give the place a try. I'm not sure what was worse the service or the food. The place was completely empty, that should have been my first clue. The two guy behind the counter could barely speak English and we're pretty dry. Against my better judgment I ordered a rib tip sandwich which was about 10 bucks. Got home opened the container and I knew I made a mistake. The damn rib tips were gray , and absolutely disgusting. I took one bite and threw them in the garbage. Their brisket was above par. This place is cute, the staff very southern hospitably, and the food is amazing. I got the pork sandwich plate: pinto beans were too salty, green beans were delicious, and the pork was tender delicious and in good portion. My husband got the brisket chopped sandwich plate: okra was fresh and delicious, the mac and cheese was quickly cleared off his plate and I got to sample the brisket, divine. Very unassuming from the outside. The interior was cute and clean and simple in its Texan style. Very inexpensive I ordered two meats turkey and brisket. My sides broccoli and cheese and macaroni. My friends ordered chicken and rib tips, pinto beans and coleslaw. I wouldn't get the macaroni again because it was a thin sauce is a no. But everything else was fantastic! Brisket was tender, nice and smoky and juicy. For me the turkey was tops! Juicy, good flavor and again with a nice smoke. We shared some bites and everyone's meat orders were delicious. Tried this place out the other day and got a family pack. Very affordable! Thought the brisket was pretty good, enjoyed the jalapeño cheddar sausage (not listed on the menu, but ask for it! They have it!). I thought the broccoli cheddar casserole was really good. My husband loved their macaroni and cheese. I could not get enough of their sweet bbq sauce, you could really taste the honey come through and it was so rich and delicious.
