Well, what to say? Walked in on a Friday night to find it was trivia night. Had we known it would have been fun to show up earlier! Ordered 2 - 2 meat meals. Pulled pork - so so. Ribs were good but looked oddly brown - maybe put in a steamer? Smoked turkey was okay - tender and not overly smoky. Potato salad was bland, Cole slaw was even more bland. Pinto beans were surprisingly good! We asked about bread after getting our food and were told bread comes with a meat dinner. Oops! They would get it - but didn't and we then asked again just for the principle of it all. When the rolls came, cold, hard and not worth even a bite. Everyone working there was polite and attentive. ( One note- the trivia music was SO loud you couldn't hear or talk comfortably.) Probably not worth repeating. Oh, and we were only one of two tables eating. read more

The lady at the register was super friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food was just meh. There were four of us who all got different things, and we each found our dishes to be underwhelming. Not bad, just not great. We all agreed that our dishes lacked flavor in one way or another. The brisket & pulled pork were cooked well but had no seasoning, the salsa tasted like blended veggies but was missing salt or cilantro or something- anything!, and the elote was drowning in butter. The BBQ sauce Sweet Baby Ray's, which is fine, but don't label it as your BBQ sauce and then give me SBR with my to-go order. There is a housemade glaze that we all thought was very odd - had a strong raisin/date flavor and it was sweet. The only things we could think of that it might taste good on were something sweet like a cinnamon roll, or maybe to glaze a ham. I tried it with the pulled pork and didn't love it. I went here with a couple of girlfriends and I wanted to love it but what I got was just OK. I had the chicken street tacos with rice and beans and I tried all three of their salsas and not a single one was anything to write home about. The salsas just seemed to be lacking in seasoning. I appreciate the freshness of the salsa, but something was just missing. I love supporting small businesses and I hope that they succeed. Locals seem to love this place and maybe I'll try something else if I come back again, but like I said the food I got was just OK. And that was a consensus for all of us. Others of my friends tried the sausage, the pulled pork, pozole verde, Mac n cheese, pasta salad, brisket and unfortunately, they weren't blown away with anything they purchased. Wonderful local family run business - with none of that big box chain nonsense. Inside is spacious and very clean and the staff I encountered were super friendly. Ordered the jalapeño sausage and some Mac and cheese to go. Very impressed with the cheese to jalapeño ratio and overall spice level. Mac and cheese had a lovely light cheese sauce on it. Hubs and I decided to go by for a quick lunch while out running errands last Friday. He ordered a chopped beef sandwich with pinto beans. The sandwich was very good, moist, and the tender, but the beans were bland. I got the Macaroni and Cheese bowl with meat and opted for sausage. That smoked sausage was DELICIOUS, smoky, good snap, easy to bite thru, juicy and flavorful, so good. The mac? Weeeeellll, not sure why it the spiral pasta was excessively soggy, the noodles were swollen and mushy, the cheese sauce had a nice flavor, but it was runny, so the pasta swam in the liquidy cheese sauce, I did move the sausage over, folded the mac and cheese around a bit to help it cool and thicken, but to no avail. The sausage did a lot to make the dish more palatable but at the price point I was disappointed. They won't get rid of me that quick lol, I'm looking forward to trying other meats, the smoky flavor was familiar like only Texas BBQ can be, very nostalgic flavors with expert skills in smoking it! read more

We found an amazing BBQ place right around the corner from our home. I only wish we had known about it before. It's tucked into the far corner of a strip center....but don't let that fool ya. This was an incredible experience from the time we walked in until we left. You don't see any smoke or a pit outside....but don't worry it's some legit BBQ. The inside is nice and clean. That's a big plus. The staff was super helpful and gave us some good suggestions. So I ordered the turkey sandwich came with two sides. I got the fried okra and smoked veggies. That sounded different but I was curious. Well they gave me a huge portion of some of the best okra I've had. Crunchy and great taste. The smoked veggies were so good. Something new that I've never tried but loved it. Then I took a bite of that smoked turkey sandwich. Wow !!!! So good and barely used any BBQ sauce. Even the buns were prefect. I stole a bite of my brides brisket sandwich and wanted to take me. Even the beans and macaroni were so scrumptious. We talked to the owner and his son who came out to check on us. So nice and made the experience even that much better. This is definitely our new favorite place for BBQ. Can't wait to try more. read more

The restaurant take away, late lunch (1410); brisket smelled so good from the gas station :) I'm getting check-in failures in the Yelp app today :( So, will leave a review update instead (cannot "check in"). Pretty good; the chopped brisket had much too much fat for my taste, but picking out those bits there was still plenty of good brisket to enjoy. The brisket in the takeaway foam tray was wrapped in an awesome brown butcher's paper: realy nice touch! Loved the spicy BBQ sauce. Good moisture to be beef. My husband and I stopped in super quick to get a pound of sliced brisket for spuds that we were making for dinner. My husband was starving so he decided to get two brisket tacos and two pork tacos. The owner was very friendly and packed up all the fixings for it. We got home and tried the food and it was so delicious. Went for lunch and was the only one in place which felt weird. The staff was ok, but didn't really offer any suggestions or conversation. I noticed the prices were a bit high so I ordered one of the least expensive items which was a sandwich ($13). It came up right away and came with nothing but a small container of Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce. I took it to go and by the time I ate it (10 mins), the bun was so soggy it disintegrated in my hand making a huge mess. Flavor was OK, but nothing special. Probably won't return, there are places around where I can get a less expensive meal and a more lively atmosphere. read more

Stopped for lunch today, I got the moist brisket, pulled pork and regular sausage. All three were horrible, greasy and again NO Taste. Reading the other reviews, I had high hopes and being locally owned, I'm always ready to support. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be back. Location is super clean and has lots of seating. We were greeted by the young man behind the counter as we walked in...so everything was great so far. I ordered a turkey sandwich (apparently they don't have ham...??) and asked if it came with a side. The guy looked confused and tells me I ordered a BBQ sandwich. I advise that I want a turkey sandwich, he again says "so you want a bbq sandwich?" I'm now confused... I repeat again that I want a TURKEY sandwich and want to know if it comes with a side. A lady peeks her head out of the back and says it does not come with a side -- then disappears behind a curtain. Ok..so just a turkey sandwich works. The guy says BBQ sandwich and sub the brisket for turkey. Whatever man. Wife wanted ham, but opted for the sliced turkey plate that comes with 2 sides -- mac n cheese, green beans. We take a seat, food comes out but didn't have bbq sauce on the tray. I go pick some up...it's packaged cups of Sweet Baby Ray's sauce. Whaaaa? A BBQ place that does not have their own BBQ sauce? They did have a spicy sauce they made, but no normal sauce. Very strange. Turkey was very dry and over-smoked. Wife's beans looked like a cup of soup. Neither the turkey or beans were good. The girl behind the counter was super friendly and nice. That is really the only thing this place had going for it. The brisket sandwich was absolutely flavorless but at least it was tender and moist. The barbecue sauce (I guess you could call it that) looked like mainly molasses. Now let's talk about the ribs. When she put them on the table they were very unappetizing. I still wanted to give them a try but after about 2 bites, I couldn't stomach any more of them. I cannot recall a single time that I have had ribs so bad I couldn't eat them. Before writing this review, I took the ribs back to the counter to let them know that they were horrible. She said ok thanks, I will let them know. I am pretty sure JR was the one that sent them out to me and if he felt they were good enough to send to a customer, I don't see this place lasting much longer. Maybe some of their other items are great. There was a couple other people in there and they looked like they were having taco salads or something. But a place called JR's BBQ can't deliver on 2 main staples, that's pretty bad to me. I won't be going back nor recommending. read more

I found JR's at the Keller Farmers Market. I really like to try all types of barbeque, and have had some awesome experience's , and some not so awesome experiences. JR's falls in the later. I ordered a MOIST brisket sandwich and a soda. What I ended up with was a sandwich with a package of Sweet Baby Rays sauce. No homemade sauce? The brisket was almost too dry to even eat, and the sauce didn't really help. Not my cup of tea.
