I was pleasantly surprised! I'd heard of this place but hadn't visited because i'm extremely picky about my barbq. I'm not a barbq connoisseur by any means, just very picky. I hit the drive-thru and the service was excellent. I could even understand through the speakers! Nice displays of menus and specials. Looks like they even have a Thanksgiving package (hint hint). Lots of drive-thru ambiance. I ordered the 2-meat plate (brisket and sausage), and instead of 2-sides I replaced with a loaded baked potato. When asked which sauce, my eye started twitching. I dont like pouring sauce on meat after the fact...I prefer it baked and baked in. But...I told them id take their spicy BBQ sauce on the side. So...once I got home, I tore into the potato. It was HUGE so I cut it in half. The meat did not have sauce baked and baked in, but it was good. Really good. And then I went crazy. I tasted the spicy BBQ sauce. Very good. And went crazier and poured it over the brisket, sausage, and baked potato. There was a lot of food on the plate, so I saved half for leftovers. We've never been to this location, but the other location closer to us closed. This location is not as quaint, but is admittedly set up a little better. The food was just as delicious, was good to have some Soulman's BBQ again. Their double barrel baked potatoes with pulled pork are second to none. Got our big bottle of Soulman's BBQ sauce, we were almost out, can't have that! And of course, you can't skip the buttermilk pie. This portion is bigger than we used to get! I love this place. The pulled pork and ribs are my favourite! I also love the huge baked potato, loaded with chop beef or pork. Then, again, I love the pork, layered with cheese and then put on top of French fries with bbq ranch. What's not to love about his place? I usually get my food to go, but here's the best part.....I always have a free soft serve (or 2) while my order is being made. The workers are extremely unfriendly, don't listen and will not accommodate requests. At our last visit we had to repeat every part of our order multiple times and then follow up to actually get the items like the toast and okra. Also, at our second visit we tried to call in a pick up order for lunch at 10:35, but they would not accept the order until 11:00 am. They need to improve their customer service drastically. The food is not bad for chain store barbecue, but the service needs some more time on the smoker. read more

If you are seeking out BBQ, Soulman's will fit the bill. Always pretty good Q. Is it the absolute best around, probably not. But it is always good, and nothing there keeping me from returning. No wait when we walked in and ordered our food. They gave us 2 types of BBQ sauce for our ribs and brisket. Texas toast was warm and delicious! Green beans and spicy potatoes were hot. Excellent service and we topped off our meal with a free vanilla ice cream cone. Highly recommend! The restaurant wasn't crowded and we enjoyed our meal. The food is great and it use to be awesome but now the service is awful. They take forever (do not even think about going through the drive through), the staff at the meat station is incapable of doing more than one thing at a time. And they have no idea of customer service. Either get better or someone else will read more

Wow. Hearing all the hype, I was pretty excited to order. Online, one cannot order without setting up an "account" with them. So now I will be getting stupid emails and texts. It erased cred card info multiple times. It should not take 30 damn minutes to order food for two - Especially when they are going to get the order wrong. Food was ok. But the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Thankfully I had sour cream, bacon and cheese to finish off the potato myself - that was ordered that way. Real bbq eater here and being new to Texas, I figured it was finally time to find my new bbq joint. I'm not really picky about food and will eat just about anything you put in front of me but BBQ is my thing. This is my first place since moving to Texas 8months ago. I order the half rack plate with two sides. Good price $ tbh. The ribs were tough almost like jerky, I had the Mac n cheese which was very good and green beans which were way too salty. Soulman's offers a "Big Fish" plate on Friday that is very good and well worth the $17 they charge. I can get two meals out of a single order with fried fish, french fries and fried okra. I recemtly ordered the Rib Plate that was also outstanding. Give them a try. They are local and worth your time to support them. read more

Middle of the road barbecue at premium prices. Order from a line and carry your plate to table. Normal for Texas barbecue. The restaurant was clean, and the friendly staff was quick to clear and clean tables. The barbecue is average and unremarkable. If this restaurant is the only barbecue around, it'll be fine. With that said, there's much, much better options fairly close by. And, for the same price definitely go elsewhere. The ambiance is simple barbecue style with floors that imitation wood planks and walls with the obligatory branding. Nothing interesting here. It was quite while I was there. Some tables can accommodate 8, and there are plenty of booths and 4 seat tables. It's very clean, almost to a fault. There's something to be said for a grungy, smokey barbecue joint. The barbecue you expect from those places is generally next level. Overall, it's okay barbecue, but, you can easily find much better. read more

Where is the flavor??? The brisket is beyond dry. The macaroni and cheese was more bland than my math textbook. The ribs were too salty but lacked any other seasoning. And don't even get me started on the pinto beans. They did actually have flavor, flavor reminiscent of the tire stock room at Pep Boys. This place used to be great when it was back in Hurst. Wimp ass management, and they serve undercooked food. Management won't even take the time to understand a patrons complaint because, as he says, "I cooked it, I know it's done." Just be careful. Their chicken is not always cooked all the way through and can make you sick. However, Their Ice Cream is spot on (thus the 2 Stars)... just a little expensive and risky just to get a good scope of ice cream. Hey, that's the ticket. Go to Risky's BBQ down the road a piece, then stop by Braums for a double dip of whatever ice cream you like. Soulmans needs better management and possibly better cooks. read more

Wow! Thought we'd try Soulman's so we went in about 7:30p guy behind the counter said we're out of brisket asked my wife do you want to leave and I even said that's what we came here for. He talked us into trying other meats that they had it was ok but when we sat down to eat an elderly couple sat by us and he came over to there table and apologized about being out of brisket and gave them a 25.00 gift certificate for the next visit and didn't offer us anything!!
