I'm ready for the Hideout to break out as it was truly one of the best dining and drinking experiences that I have enjoyed during my recent stay at Waikiki in Honolulu, Hawaii. Located on the promenade level of The Laylow Waikiki, which serves as an Autograph Collection resort, The Hideout at The Laylow as it is officially known as, basically serves as the hotel's restaurant and bar but upon our own discovery of this establishment, it is so much more, as they serve as a gathering spot for weary travelers looking for one of the best espresso martinis and other festive cocktails, in addition to those who are looking for a great Happy Hour deal, and those who just happen to be staying at the The Laylow Waikiki, and with the pool well cordoned off past the entranceway, the Hideout truly lived up to its name with an quite unassuming patio that overlooked the bustling Kūhiō Avenue without hearing any of the ambient noise that traditionally comes with it. Of the group of visitors we fell into the Happy Hour group that was hungry and arrived just in time looking for a good affordable meal accompanied with a festive local cocktail to pair with it. Upon our arrival, my dining mate and I managed to get lucky and find the two connected seats that were remaining at the bar area. The Happy Hour menu at the Hideout is separated into categories including their signature Combo, which featured their Mai Burger and Mai Tai; two Cocktails; one Wine, four Draft Beers; and plenty of options to eat. They also had an additional beverage menu and lunchtime menu when we visited. To start our meal off right, I ordered their Tropical Sangria which was filled with seasonal flavors, while my dining mate ordered their Happy Hour cocktail, their Blue Hawaiian which was made with Bacardi Coconut, Bacardi Pineapple and Soda Water. To eat, we ordered three items from the eat section of their Happy Hour menu, including their Kalua Egg Rolls, which were filled with Kalua Pork, Island Slaw, and served with a Pineapple Jam dipping sauce; their Kauai Shrimp Dumplings, which were topped with Sweet Chili and Yuzu Chili Butter; and their Wonton Poke Tacos which were made with Ahi Poke and Avocado, and topped with Yuzu; and served with a Mango Salsa. Once we were served our cocktails, I loved the refreshing quality of my Sangria which was the perfect breezy cocktail to enjoy while out on their terrace, but my friend took a brief taste of their Blue Hawaiian and felt it was too sweet for their taste, so they asked to order another cocktail, of which she ordered their So Fetch cocktail which was made with Lalo Tequila, Strawberry Calpico, Basil, Hibiscus and Honey. This new cocktail order was right up their alley and the team did not charge to make the original cocktail, which was a very nice gesture. We enjoyed all three of our Happy Hour food entrées, with the highlight being their Kauai Shrimp Dumplings, which were five of the nicest and tastiest dumplings that either of us have enjoyed in quite some time. We easily could have ordered an additional bowl of these dumplings and could have been satisfied right then and there, but thankfully we were able to enjoy the crunchiness of both their Poke Tacos and Egg Rolls. Staying there for the next couple of hours, we encountered some nice people, including their staff, which included our server/ bartender Taylor who was so pleasant and accommodating, as a couple next to us came in to enjoy their Hideout Signature Espresso Martini, made with Big Island Coffee Roasters Espresso, Pau Maui Vodka, Caffé Borghetti and topped with Macadamia Nut Espresso Foam. It sounded so good and looked even better that my dining mate just had to order one for themselves and was not disappointed as it was a cool creamy blend of coffee and liqueur. Our total bill was $96.33 before gratuity was added in, and it was an enjoyable meal and experience all around. We will be coming back to the hideout to enjoy a nice meal and live music during the warmer months in Waikiki, as this bar and restaurant is a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered by more locals and tourists alike. read more

We saw several over one inch long roaches crawling all over the deck around us during our visit around 9pm. Hideout holds a special place in our hearts as this was the first restaurant we went to celebrate our engagement about 3 years ago. Last night we stopped by again and it was just as amazing as our last visit. The ambiance was amazing from live music to the atmosphere to the food and drinks. We had breakfast here this morning outside. The tradewinds were blowing but the lanai is well shielded. Today, it was decorated for Christmas and looked lovely! When we were seated by Isabella at a two top of our choosing, we immediately noticed that the table was set with pepper mills. Honestly, just having pepper mills was going to get them a four star review right out of the gate! Food? I had the Loco Moco and my husband had the Hideout Eggs Benedict. The quality of my Loco Moco was unmatched by anything with a fancier name! The hamburger patty was perfectly ground Wagyu beef. It would not surprise me if it was ground in-house as the grind was chewy but melted in your mouth. It was cooked to medium rare which showed off the meat! It was perched atop a beautifully shaped mound of short grain brown rice. The gravy was a demi-glace with dried shitake mushrooms that was just delicious. The over medium eggs were garnished with I think fried panko crumbs, but they were soggy when the dish was presented. Other than that one tiny thing, it was an amazing dish that I loved and would happily order again! My husband's Eggs Benedict sat on an Ube English Muffin that was bright purple. It was a bit unsettling, TBH. The Kahlua Pork was plentiful and flavorful. The eggs were poached perfectly. I didn't get to taste the Hollandaise but he said it was delicious. The star of the plate were the potatoes. They were baby potatoes that had been cooked, then smashed, and either deep fried or roasted. They were a taste sensation! I would have been happy with just a plate full of potatoes. We had the regular drip coffee that was strong and delicious. Each oversized cup was presented on its own plate. It was a very classy presentation! Service? Our server was Melody. She was a delight! She had an awesome sense of humor and a beautiful personality. A must every time we visit Oahu! Honestly it beats all of the other rooftops in the Honolulu area. The service, atmosphere, live music and food never disappoints. The brussel sprouts and dumplings are my go-to every time. However, the service was terrible. Our server kept forgetting about us. It would take forever just to get a refill on coffee and water, and we had to grab our own utensils because it took that long. We tried waving down other servers but they either ignored us, they would literally face their backs to us after they saw us wave at them, or gave us attitude when serving us. The bar itself and view from the top was very pretty, and they had live music which was a nice touch, but the staff seemed on edge and discontent.
