Came in 4 months ago and was met with rude staff. I had my teams meeting playing without headphones for a class, instead of the host simply asking me to use headphones, she yelled at me for it. It wasn't even that loud compared to the chatter going on in the cafe, but I would have been happy to turn it off or go outside without complaining on yelp if she communicated with some sort of human dignity. I apologized and left. I did not meet her with the same rude energy. Fortunate for you, I have to have propriety when out in public due to my line of work. And I would never turn you or your loved ones away from the services I provide. This morning my boyfriend attempted to purchase coffee without me even there and the host turned him away. Exceptional! Decided to take a walk on my break needed a cheerful pick me up ( rough morning) but I walked in and around 9:30 am very quiet but there were a few couples in there sitting. The music wasn't loud but you can hear it ( instrumentals) it was a total vibe. The menu was not that big but it's safe to say each of the food items pack a unique punch by the ingredients I was reading. I ordered a Masala Chai latte (iced) and the gentleman was giving me a description of pasties and all I heard was strawberry and I was sold. I waited for my order ( which by the way was not long at all. But they have photos on their wall.. BEAUTIFUL pictures of the owner and his family ( A LATIN FAMILY FROM CENTRAL AMERICA) yesssssssssds fellow Latinos & Latina. And I turn around and it's them in the flesh and working. I love it I appreciate it, and I'm cheering for their success. First time I came here, was earlier in the year (Feb) with a friend, we looked up a coffee shop nearby and it did not disappoint. We were charmed by the owner and cozy atmosphere and of course coffee. Was amazed they make their syrups in house. Teas are delicious too. Seating area is small so it fills up quickly, if you plan to stay and enjoy your drink, you might find yourself having to sit outdoor in the patio chairs which is not great when it's cold outside. The taste is comparable to a raspberry chocolate milk shake with coffee but not over powering, and not too milky, you get those Specific notes after each sip and swallow. I also decided to order the breakfast sandwich with brioche bread, the way it's prepared and how she thought of every little detail really warmed my heart to Living in Long Beach. It's made with habanero jam that is unreal to my taste buds, topped with bacon, arugula and fried egg. They are all very nice and very cheerful in the mornings, they will do their absolute best to cater and service all their customers who come in. I have never felt uncomfortable here ever, by now the daughter knows my name already in lol. Every season she brings out a new menu or drinks and they do not disappoint! After I waited 15 mins for a coffee with multiple open tables, a worker comes to my table and tells me I only have one hour to sit there with a laptop and my book, which had been on the table since I arrived. I asked why there's no signs stating this policy and if they had told me before I ordered, I'd have gone somewhere else. She condescendingly replies "you ordered one drink, maybe you should buy food and you can stay longer" as if ordering a coffee at a coffee shop made me cheap, so I packed up and walked out. I could understand if people were waiting for seats but as I've stated, there were MULTIPLE tables available. The place is called Grounds Hideout Coffee, not "Grounds you must buy food with your coffee to be treated with respect and decency." I see now that there are other reviews saying they had the same experience and I wish I would have read them before. I will never be back to this "coffee shop." Most of the employees were kind and professional; however, one front of house staff member was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I visited with my sister, my father's, and his service dog. After ordering, I approached the counter to pick up my items when a staff member politely informed me that animals were not allowed inside. I asked whether service animals were permitted. As I sat down, a female employee loudly and rudely remarked, clearly within earshot, "That's not a service animal." I had also asked if cream cheese was available for purchase, and she dismissively replied that it was not for sale. Her behavior made us extremely uncomfortable, so we decided to leave. As we exited, she was visibly speaking about us and shaking her head. If she wanted to have her own opinion, that is one thing, but to go out of her way to make assumptions and then intentionally make customers feel uncomfortable is unacceptable, especially when his dog is in fact a service animal. I also had a protein drink with me that I had picked up from Vons after my workout. While I was eating, the owner came outside and very rudely told me I couldn't sit there because I had a drink from another business. I had just spent $20 on one piece of avocado toast, and yet she told me I wasn't allowed to sit there. I told her I wasn't leaving. The way she approached me and the tone she used felt extremely disrespectful and honestly, it felt racially motivated--like she didn't want Black people at her establishment. Cozy little coffee shop with friendly service. I came here mainly for its Orange Cardamom Latte, which was quite good and unique. The flavor combination worked really well. I've had cardamom in coffee before but just never had it combined with orange. The Sunrise Sandwich was good as well. It would've been a typical breakfast sandwich but the house made habanero jam gave it a nice little kick. It had fried egg, bacon, tomato, arugula, and red onion. Limited parking in this area.
