They accidentally made two and let me keep it so I had it to my friend. I do wish the coffees came in a larger size so I had to gracefully sip instead of chug my iced coffee haha. I ordered the special donut called the Black Sabbath. It had black sesame and brulee banana. And I had to get a chocolate one too. So it's come out nice and hot and fresh. I was just there this weekend so I'm not sure why it says it's closed. The place is small but does offer outdoor seating and a community table inside. The staff are WONDERFUL. My go-to donut spot, Holey Grail makes you feel a little bit better indulging in an "unhealthy" treat. At first it does taste way different than your usual donut but you get used to it, the dough is made of taro and cacao then fried in coconut oil! Holey Grail really takes pride in their ingredients used and its mostly sourced from Hawaii! When you order, they make the donuts fresh to order so it takes around 5-10 minutes for your donuts to be made. I recommend eating them right away and it will literally melt in your mouth. There is a decent amount of seating inside and outside to relax and wait for your donuts. As for the donuts itself, I recommend getting the tasting box to get a flavor you really like. I've tried the Cosmic Churro which tastes like your average churro, Lilokai which was sweet and just the right amount of tart, Pandan was pretty good and their hot singles and Original Sin are good options too, you can't go wrong. You can no longer find the holy grail here on 2nd Street, Belmont Shore. This brand came from Hawaii but looks like the other locations here in the Southland have been marked as closed. What made them different is they used taro flour and cooked them in coconut oil. Some of their flavors were tropical. Now I can write about how the oil smell emanating from the store made me nauseous whenever I passed by during business hours. It's weird because I didn't think bad of the donuts themselves and could stand to eat them. I will say after having them on two prior occasions, they made an impression on me when they participated in the yearly Belmont Shore chocolate festival. Delicious donuts made of taro! I'd say texture-wise, they feel like a hybrid of cake and mochi donuts. They are definitely unique so you ought to try them for yourself! I loved the donuts but I'm not a big fan of their coffee and matcha drinks because they are dairy-free and use macadamia nut milk and I do not like the taste of macadamia nut milk combined with coffee or matcha. Really excited to see Holey Grail has arrived in Long Beach! I first tried their donuts in Honolulu, and these mini treats are just as amazing. Each one is packed with flavor, making you wish you had ordered a dozen instead of just one or two. Given their size, I'd recommend two donuts per person. They bake everything fresh to order and offer a wide variety of flavors, and the staff is welcoming and helpful when recommending what to try. I swear we've seen this movie before but the grail is something you don't have to sacrifice your limbs for. It does hurt the wallet though when you realize the box and portion is the size of said wallet. Hey it was good though! I think I'd have to sacrifice something just to get a spot around Belmont Shores though. Now the prices don't seem off-putting at first considering we're entering this establishment with an expectation of what a donut looks like both in appearance and size. This is one of my favorite new places. Donuts are made per order so very fresh and presentation is excellent. I'm big on customer services so the intentional connection with us was great. The vibes were vibing here. It wasn't busy when we arrived so we got our donuts right away. As someone who isn't big on sweets this is now my new favorite dessert place. After the Yelp event, I decided to purchase coffee sticks and candy bars. The review below is based on purchases made and not the Yelp event. I viewed the merchandise, but I did not purchase any, yet. The coffee was bold and dark with a nice scent. I made sure to get that scent before putting cream inside. I loved the milk chocolate and dark chocolate bars, I liked the flavor of the milk chocolate a little more. The coffee packs and chocolate bars were not cheap, I am absolutely not rich, yet I would buy them again. The transaction was quick and once again, the staff was very friendly and answered all questions I had. This shop is on the popular Second street in Long Beach, some days, sometimes, it can be harder to find parking, plan ahead. Funny enough, I'd actually had these donuts once before, straight from the source: not long before they opened an offshoot in Belmont Shore, we happened to be staying for a couple days in Honolulu en route to the big island on vacation, at a hotel with a Holey Grail truck right in its shadow, so I already knew they were great. I sometimes make jokes about various faraway places I'd rather visit than much closer ones, like how I'd rather fly to Vegas than have to drive to Santa Monica, but even I can agree that Belmont Shore is a heck of a lot easier to get to than Honolulu, so it was pretty neat when they opened a one in Long Beach soon after. Even neater when I won a free 4-donut "sampler" box from something or another a couple months ago, so I could confirm that they are in fact just as good as the ones in Honolulu were. I would've liked to have gotten to pick the flavors (I didn't care for the two tropical-glazed ones as much as the other two - tropical ones are quite sweet, and the miso honey is sooooo good), but obviously I wasn't going to complain, given the price free. (Though I did buy one extra one for $4.50 for immediate consumption, since the flavors in the box were pre-picked-out, and I really wanted to pair a traditional chocolate donut with their also just as good mocha. Also so I could tip them.) Anyway, as I expected, it was indeed just as good as I remembered from the one in Honolulu, both the donuts and the coffee drink. Paired the double chocolate donut fresh out of the fryer with a mocha: wonderful combo, totally worth the price. (Though also just as a remembered, the melted chocolate is delicious, but also a bit... unwieldy.) Running around with two toddlers in tow, I was happy to stumble upon a donut shop. It was pretty quick when I realized-- this isn't your ordinary donut shop. Every flavor on the menu sounded amazing. I saw the prices and thought this might just be another gourmet donut shop. I was wrong. Taro based donuts with locally sourced ingredients with each donut made-to-order? What?! These were some of the most unique, flavorful, lightest donuts I have ever had with the slightly crispy exterior that was so satisfying. The vanilla donut literally tasted like vanilla beans. They were not overly sweet. They were perfectly sized. Ultimately, they were the perfect donuts that really set a high bar for donuts. It also doesn't hurt that there's great outdoor seating for people watching on 2nd Street. The packaging is also impressive. Only complaint, well not a real complaint but they could've been bigger, they were quite small but very good quality. Price was average for the quality, $4 per donut but worth it. The inside was clean.and very organized. Had a mini shopping area with some items that catered to the store. Had a public restroom and some stools where you could relax and enjoy. They are dog friendly so bring your pup and enjoy the afternoon read more
