In contention for best donuts in the city. I didn't get them at peak freshness but I did heat them up in the oven for a few minutes before I devoured them. That apple fritter was fantastic. Haven't had one in years and this one made me miss them. Crispy on the outside and a fluffy interior. Although I don't recall seeing or biting into any apples, it was fine because the apple flavor was large & present throughout. The regular glazed was a classic delight. Super soft with a yellow brioche type texture and interior. Can't go wrong with this excellence. The red velvet variant was about the same. I didn't really taste any thing special from the topping. That chocolate sprinkled, cake type donut was a delight. As was the Maple Bar; which actually tasted better to me after being chilled in the fridge. And lastly, my favorite: the raspberry filled glazed. Everything I loved about the original glazed but with an incredible surprise inside. Filling was literally flawless. Sweetness & Tartness were in perfect balance. This is the one I'll be getting every single visit...

Fruity pebble, blueberry with lemon glaze, passion fruit, and blueberry crumble

The first time I came this place was closed, but I saw the open sign and finally was able to try it. The donuts are delicious and there is a good amount of variety. My favorite so far is the blueberry crumble. I also like chocolate on chocolate but they didn't have any when I went. The lady working was very sweet and said she'd mention that I liked them to the owner and see if they can do them more often. I came in the try 1 donut and ended up getting 4 because I knew my wife would want to try some like the passion fruit. The place is also quite nice and inviting inside. You could come here and get a coffee and work (not sure if there is free WiFi).

Long Beach never ceases to amaze me. There are surprises everywhere. I drove by this afternoon on my way to run an errand. I was hoping to stop by 7/11 or a big chain coffee shop to get an iced coffee and I saw a donut shop in the corner of a small shopping center. When I walked it I immediately felt a positive energy. The wall on the right is a beautiful bright yellow with art and there were tables and plants hanging around. I ordered the Sea Salt Ice Coffee and it was so good. It's on the sweeter side but an easy fix if you don't like it too sweet. I also had a dozen donut holes for $2. It was a lovely experience with delicious coffee and donuts. I'll be coming back again soon to try all the other goodies.

Strawberry glazed donut

Freshest tastiest donuts in the area. My favorites are all the blueberry and strawberry options. The green tea banana smoothie was delicious and not too sweet. They have other milk options like oat milk and almond milk. The vegan donuts are great too. Best service thanks to Jessica! We're always happy to run into her.

Vegan Blueberry Apple Fritter‼

Sweet Retreat has, BY FAR, the best vegan blueberry apple fritter on the planet! Don't sleep on this one....it's only available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays...and they sell out fast! Oh, and forgot to mention... I'm not even vegan...

Awesome donuts! I'm not vegan, but if you are they have a great vegan selection. I ended up going with the Halloween ones. I got the coco one which was pistachio glazed and a red velvet cake ghost one. The person that helped me at the counter was extremely friendly and helpful! I'd definitely come back again. The decor was really cute, the place was really clean and they have little areas for you to sit and eat your donuts if you don't want to take them to go

Flaming hot Cheeto donut
Valerie G.

Such great service. The lady acknowledged me and was so friendly. I ordered the flaming hot Cheeto donut. It was surprisingly delicious I even had to share it with my friend so she can experience the flavors. She was also so surprised and had to tell her friends. It's a nice place to drink and eat and relax.

Vegan donuts (maple, vanilla fruity pebbles and sprinkles and lemon)

I love this places. Our son has a dairy allergy and we've been on the hunt for dairy-free/vegan treats and found the perfect place. The lemon flavor had to be our favorite! They primarily have non-vegan options but we were told they have more vegan flavors on the weekend. We will definitely be back!

I ordered the potato taco which had a fabulous crunch and a perfectly delicious chipotle ( ? ) dipping sauce on the side. The taco itself wasn't very flavorful but I think it's perfectly fine because the sauce carries more than enough. I also ordered the vegan fried chicken and I was so intrigued by the flavor. They had a notable buttery taste to them which was rich and pleasant. I believe they were coated with a cornflake cereal which gave them a proper crunch. The hibiscus drink was a tad thicker than I expected and wished it had a more balanced flavor ( sweetness : tartness ), but it wasn't a bad drink by any means. Definitely one to drink cold. We basically wasted our time sitting there and left without getting what we ordered. Definitely wouldn't come back.

Had the perfect balance of a crispy outside and a soft juicy inside. Goes great with the dipping sauces. Lowkey some of the best zucchini sticks I've had. Southern Fried Chick'n Sammie - 4/5 Pretty good! Chewy and flavorful. Tasted like a chicken sandwich. The bacon was alright but overall a good sandwich. Bread was a little thick. Tater Tots and Salad - 3/5 Tater tots were cooked until crispy, but these are your standard tots and salad. Pastrami Sandwich - 1/5 Not a fan. I would skip this and get another sandwich next time. It was way too buttery and the pastrami did not taste like pastrami - texture and flavor were not similar. Their vegan pastrami also had a weird taste (maybe seitan?). Vietnamese Coffee - 1/5 Did not taste similar to the real thing. The mixture also did not dissolve well so I would skip this. Service was friendly, but the wait time for the food was quite long, even for drinks.

Plates, utensils or anything else you need, go get it yourself. BUT none of that really bothered us. It's a hole in the wall place, we weren't walking in expecting white tablecloths. The other odd thing was that place opens at 1pm (who opens at 1? most people are done with lunch by then and its too early for dinner). Anyways we got there right at open so we were the first ones in an empty restaurant. It still took an HOUR to get our food. One hour for the first and only order in the building. A few others came in a couple minutes behind us and they were still sitting there past the hour and half mark. There's slow and then there's this where slow loses its definition. Food was good but when you've been starving for a long time anything would taste good so take that for what its worth. Prices aren't cheap either, 14-16$ a dish, which is proper sit down restaurant money not a person running the truck type business place. I don't really blame the guy. He's the cook and the server and the cleanup all at once and you can tell he's putting effort into the food. But one person can't run a restaurant on his own and I'm not going back to wait another time to prove it.

Also the onion rings are batter dipped. And beyond delicious! Only bummer is the drinks are cans, so if you need more than one drink, be prepared to pay for each can. The food was super delicious!!

It was really loud during our visit. I'm not sure if it's always that lively on Friday nights, but it was the weekend of Warped Tour, so there was a lot of music and energy. If you're looking for a quieter meal, this may not be the best night to visit. The food itself was good, but the wait was much longer than expected. We waited almost 40 minutes for our order. Unfortunately, my burger was also made incorrectly. I ordered the Bacon Bleu Burger but was served a different burger instead. Not quite sure what it was, but it had mushrooms and American cheese. Since we had already waited so long, I decided to just eat it rather than send it back. The burgers were flavorful, but they were smaller than I expected for the price, and they don't come with fries. To round out my meal, I ordered the poutine fries. They were decent. The fries were nice and crispy, which I appreciated. My husband ordered the Burger Don Chendo, and that ended up being the standout of the night. I usually don't like spicy food, but this burger had just the right amount of heat without being overwhelming. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but between the long wait, the incorrect order, and the portion size for the price, the experience was a bit hit-or-miss. I'd be willing to give them another try, especially for the Don Chendo burger, but I'm hoping for a smoother experience next time.

They had sports playing on the TVs and the interior is pretty small. It's more of a casual vibe good for a chill night out. It kinda feels like a place where you order at the front and get takeout, but they have someone who will wait on your table if you choose to dine in. I came with a vegetarian friend and we had a fun time sampling the different taco meats and rating each. Here is my ranking: 1. Asada - I hate to be basic, but this was good for what it was. It tasted like they might have used mushroom meat, but this takes place as #1 for me because I think it could be a general crowd pleaser for any non-vegetarian. On the contrary, my vegetarian friend did not like it because she found it too dry. 2. Barbacoa - A very, very close second. The only reason it places behind asada is because asada is a classic. Barbacoa has good texture and I could eat a lot of these too. 3. Chorizo - This was the closest to tasting like its actual counterpart. I could eat a bunch of chorizo. Crumbly meat with lots of flavor. 4. Tinga - I'm not as familiar with tinga meat, but the pickled red onion that went with this taco gave it a savory taste. Good to try out but you're not missing out if you choose other flavors. 5. Chicken - Tasted like tofu meat? Not bad - I don't usually pick chicken for taco meat so this might be a personal preference choice. 6. Pastor - Sweet, but did not taste like pastor. Had a little trouble distinguishing between the pastor and the tinga at first, but came to the conclusion the pastor was the one with pineapple on it. I mostly prefer savory meats and while I don't mind the pineapple, the pastor I usually have is not sweet itself. If you like sweet meats, this might be worth getting. 7. Potato - Everybody can skip the potato. It's a fried potato taco, but the potato they use resembles a breakfast hash. The crispiness is nice, but the texture is flaky and the sauce doesn't save it. Even my vegetarian friend was let down by this one even though she had high hopes and usually likes potato tacos. Overall the server told us most of the taco meats were soybean based (not the pastor). I think the chorizo might be falafel, but that's a guess? Ended our meal with the Tres Leches as a dessert. Frosting is buttery and sweet (maybe a little too much frosting) but the cake goes super well with the milk. It sits in a soy milk bath which is a first for me. I wish they had added more soy milk! The menu is huge though. I was very tempted to try other stuff on the menu so I am very open to coming back and trying the breakfast platter (or getting more tacos again, yum).

They also had a pastry case filled with some drool worthy cakes. The friendly employee quickly found my order. The menu was vast but I ordered an indulgent chocolate crepe, as I was craving something sweet and light. The crepe had a lovely pillowy texture and was so heavenly, both the chocolate sauce and chocolate mousse were so rich and decadent and had me wanting more! I loved the freshness, sweetness and juiciness of the berries! The coconut whipped cream really took it over the top and added a nice airiness. I came to Blue Bird expecting to find Juu coffee, and happened upon HTUNS (the "H" is silent). After looking down at the menu taped to the counter and seeing only Matcha and Tea, I asked, "but you still have regular coffee, right?" They did not, in fact, have regular coffee. And it's a good thing, because otherwise I never would have discovered this delicious treat. I got a BBL for breakfast. What I found out immediately was Burmese Brewed Latte, I ordered the BBL with a salted vanilla cream top. When I asked what it was exactly they told me it was a brewed black tea sweetened with cream and sweetened condensed milk. So I immediately was like ooooh, kinda like vietnamese coffee meets milk tea? And they were like sorta. The best way I can describe it is kind of like an iced tea with a cream foam topper?? I don't drink a lot of boba, but it's not as sweet, which I prefer. You can really still taste the tea which is so, so good. The foam itself is very light, and not overly vanilla-flavored. Just enough to make it creamy, but truly let the tea stand out. I didn't taste the salt at first, and then I got a piece in a sip and it was like a delightful little pop of flavor. That only happened a couple of times, but was so yum, otherwise the salt was just there to mellow out the sweetness, like melty vanilla ice cream. I feel like I'm going to be thinking about this tea all week until they come back next Tuesday. HTUNS will be popping up inside Blue Bird Sushi every Tuesday morning the rest of this month. They also plan to bring in breakfast as soon as next month. She said it wouldn't be traditional American breakfast, and I said good, that's the point! I'm not sure I've ever truly had Burmese food, so this has me extremely excited. I googled what a traditional Burmese breakfast might look like, and wow I can't wait to see what menu they pull together for this. My mouth is watering already! I haven't traveled that far east, so I was curious about where Burma was exactly. The closest other countries surrounding it are China, India, and Thailand. Vietnam is not far away either. This is like all my favorite regions for food, so I'm so excited to have a new breakfast experience in the coming months.

By all means not here to sh*t on the business because we still want to come here to support them. However, last Saturday I believe was the 5/23/26, they had an event and an artist guest came and performed for the guests. It was nice, but it was also very packed in there with people out the door. We snuck through the back just to get in, people standing and blocking traffic because there was no room and space. We had to wait in a small crammed isle area towards the bathroom. It took awhile for our simple togo order to get done--which was also mistakenly given to someone else. They couldn't figure out simple logistics. There were also others who got wrong orders while we stood there waiting. They had to re-make people's pizzas while the pizza had to be given away for free because it had already been touched. My gripe is that in the future, if you're having an event, (maybe they do this here all the time), please have a floor manager to alleviate the crowd and simple operations and logistics to handle the lines, the crowd control, and providing fast and accurate service. Not just making the food right, but with time, and a comfortable environment. They could have made it more. It was so busy, that they either looked to be short-staffed or got confused on a lot of their orders. In short, in the future their manager should do better in operations and executing the the transactions to flow more smoothly. If you're having a guest performer, find a way to also make that work better. Maybe make people not block the pathways, more chairs or seating outside, have a bigger venue or open some areas to fit better..maybe they like this intimate atmosphere but it did not work for half of the guests there just trying to get in and out. This review is not to burn the spot but to encourage them do better in the future. This is just to help them understand and hopefully this helps to provide constructive feedback..because I know the owner here reads a lot of these comments..
