This was me and my friends 2nd time to the Summer Nights and last year we really really enjoyed it. Everything was delicious and we couldn't wait to go back. This time (yesterday), however, was not nearly the same experience. First of all, I realized we couldn't book a table for 8 people, so me and my friends book 2 tables for 8.30PM. I called asking if it's possible to put our tables together close or side by side, they said they will try their best. We all showed up at 8.30 and waited until around 9-9.15 because they only had 1 table ready. Ok. Come the time the other table opened and it's not even that close to each other. But it's okay, I respect the limitations on this part. No one came to us to take our order or even give us water until way later, and we got our drinks at 9.45. Another critique is that my friend called and ask how much corkage fee and they said $25. It turned out to be $40. Another disappointment, but it's ok. Not much can be done bout that part. Next thing is the food. We enjoyed the fried green beans. Crudo was really really salty, and it's not only 1 person thought that. We wondered if the kitchen mistakenly salted the fish twice. We enjoyed the peach salad. We ordered a few different pasta and the tagliatelle in particular was disappointing. It really lacked flavor that we had to mix the other pasta dish sauce to it. The pork plate was good, a bit small but we enjoyed it. Now the mussles and frites were disappointing too. The sauce just didn't do it for me (other friends agreed). I always talked really highly about Nonna Mercato (I also enjoyed the brunch so much) and always told people that this is one of my most favorite restaurants in Long Beach, but this one really missed the mark for me and my friends. I don't know if this would make us want to go to Summer Nights again next time. For $130 per person (after tax, tip, and corkage fees), I definitely hoped for a much better experience. read more

Ugh I'm so sad to have to write this about Nonnas Summer Nights especially since I really liked the Winter Nights. I came during the second weekend and it clearly had a lot of loose ends that needed work. We arrived at 8:55 for out 9pm resy and were seated at 9:30. That is crazy to me - the least they can do is send out a message saying the previous seating was running late. 3/5 Food - way too salty and pasta was undercooked. The star of the show was the eggplant dish - everything else I would not recommend. I remember during winter nights that I thought the pasta wasn't very good. This is still the case. This time, I got the spagghettini lobster and it was super salty and the pasta was on the uncooked side of al dente. I took a few bites and took the rest to go home. The frites with the mussels must have been left out for a little bit because they were cool and limp. The crudo was awful- the pistachios and the capers were extraordinarily salty. We asked our server if we were able to request the pasta to be cooked more in the future - she explained the pasta got a 3-4 minute rolling boil. This is most definitely not enough for the pasta - and I go to Italy every year and I know what Al dente is. Highly recommend to tell them ahead of time for a slightly more tender pasta if you don't want their uncooked hard pasta version of Al dente. None of the desserts were special offerings like the panna cotta or unique cakes that are not typical offerings from the bakery. We didn't partake this time. I've gotten the tiramisu for the to go pantry on Friday's before. Overall- this summer nights was a miss. I would stick to non pasta dishes during the day time (like the shakshuka for brunch) and their bakery goods. I will try to come back for Winter Nights to see if it stands to my memory of last year's meal! read more

I've been here for brunch with my friends a while back but have been getting their bakeries from the farmers market few times, and also because of them, I came to know about Stereoscope coffee! First off, they are a super popular spot for brunch, especially on a weekend, so highly suggest you come with a reservation ahead of time. We ordered a few pasta dishes and they were all very good, but, they are a bit over the top oily for me. Even their salad, which I forgot the name now but it was the one with a variety of greens, it was delish but after few bites, the olive oil caught up to me because it was drench in oil. So overall, food wise, good but kind of really heavy because of how much oil they use. Their coffee, matcha, and bread/bakery are very good otherwise. If you just come for coffee or matcha, and buy some beans home, or the chocolate they have inside, you will be happy! The service was good and there were great options for breakfast, but we were just a little disappointed with the tomato egg stew breakfast dish as the eggs yolks were not runny at all. To say we are a "regular" is an understatement. We first discovered Nonna many moons ago. We were attracted to their pastries especially their Everything Croissants (it's heavenly). It had become on of our favorite breakfast spots but they also serve lunch and dinner! Food: Their pastries are beyond delicious with lots of sweet and savory options. Fresh baked breads. On occasions they would have baked at home items in their fridge. I always grab way too many things but they're all worth it. For dine in - We tried their pastas, sandwiches, and salads - all delicious! Their yummy lattes are made with in house syrups. Service: Fast and friendly for both dine in and take out. Environment: Great vibes and nice ambiance. Cute covered patio seating with beautiful foliage. Inside there's a drinks and pastries counter for quick pick up or to-go. Notes: Nonna is usually packed so expect long waits for brunch on the weekends. Parking lot in the back is very limited and street parking can be a bit difficult so be aware. This place was no reservations so we had to wait 30 minutes because it just has patio seating. We waited because it looked really delicious. We all got different milks for our matcha latte and it was delicious. I got the steak and fries but subbed for a salad and I felt like it made the meal perfect. Came here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon and there was a bit of a wait, but I heard that is expected here as it is only outdoor seating. This is my first time here and while we were waiting we went inside in the bakery. Such a cute ambiance as there have different food items, wine, olive oils, baked bread, and their famous pastries in there! The line gets long and some of the pastries get sold out right away until they make a new batch. I got the pistachio cream, the ham y formaggio, and the classic kouign amann and the chocolate cake. I also ordered the seasonal drink - lavender matcha. After ordering from the bakery, my party was seated. To start we ordered focaccia, burrata di campagna, and the classic country bread. The focaccia was nice and fluffy. Easy to pull apart and it pairs well with the burrata and tomatoes. The country bread was delicious with the cultured butter and jam (which I think are made here). I ordered the salmon lox - everything bagel topped with a dill cream cheese, smoked salmon, shallots, capers, and topped with basil. It was very rich and filling. The smoked salmon was perfect for me, not too smoky. My boyfriend doesn't like smoky so he didn't like the salmon, but enjoyed the cream cheese. That was my favorite part also! My boyfriend ordered Nonna's breakfast - eggs, bacon, toasted baguette, market lettuces, and seasonal name - with a side of fennel sausage. This meal looked really good. The sunny side up eggs looked nice and runny. I tried the fennel sausage which was really good. The fennel was different. It had nice texture and brought a lot of flavor to the sausage. My boyfriend's brother got the tagliatelle - Nonna ginelli's bolognese, pecorino, and basil. I didn't get to try it but it looked really good. The sauce looked perfect with the bread. He also ordered Spanish latter which wasn't too strong. And my lavender matcha was a nice refresher throughout my meal. It wasn't too florally and perfect enough where you can still taste the matcha. Came in on a busy Saturday around 1. There was a 30 minute wait. The restaurant is very nice and clean. The restrooms were impeccable. Our server Bekah was very patient, knowledgeable and friendly. nonna mercato is one of those spots that always has a crowd out front, and after finally visiting for myself, it's abundantly clear why. here's a rundown of everything we tried: - spanish milk tea, divine. spanish latte, even better. - snuck away from the table to browse the market and order a pain au ham y formaggio; it was easily the best croissant i've had in a long time. - the tomato bagel was refreshing and vibrant, definitely a celebration of bread and olive oil. with the fresh tomato and basil, the cucumber was almost not necessary. - croque seniora was perfectly savory and came with a surprisingly delicious market salad. how they were able to pack so much flavor into market greens is nothing short of magic. my son insisted on a rosemary loaf to go and it was the cherry on top of a perfect visit. we used it to dip in soup, make sandwiches, and as avocado toast. lovely spot, lovely food, lovely service. can't wait to come back and try the pasta! read more

My first visit to Nonna Mercato was nice. We went on a weekday and sat on the patio. The patio is in front of a big street but surprisingly it's not loud. There's a covered patio and the aesthetic is pretty and kinda minimalist. Inside the restaurant is the bakery & cafe and merch to purchase. The kitchen is visible from the cafe which I think is pretty neat. The menu was on a one page mat and I went with the Tagliatelle Bolognese and my friend went with the Smoked Salmon Bagel. I also ordered the Spanish latte. I asked if the Spanish latte was sweet and was told it was because sweetened condensed milk so I asked to make it less and I wish I hadn't, it was bland. The entrees were salty for both of us but it wasn't terrible. We did see some other dishes that were brought out to other tables and would like to return to try something else for sure. Tried out Nonna Mercato for brunch. It was a lovely experience I ordered the Iced Pecan latte and the croque seniora. My friend and I also split a pecan matcha croissant for dessert. The coffee was good but I couldn't really taste the pecan. Aside from that it was still pretty tasty and I enjoyed it with my food. The croissant was also delicious. You can really taste the matcha and pecan. It was also very fluffy and big size. I would say however if you're not big on sweets try a different pastry as this one is a little more on the sweet end which I personally enjoyed. They all looked delicious though so no worries about that. Now the main star was the croque seniora. It was a croissant with ham and egg on top that came with a side salad. The side salad was delicious. The added just enough cheese to go with the salad. The sandwich was also great the eggs were runny and the croissants mixed well with all the ingredients. I would recommend trying out their food as they do well in both sweet and savory dishes. The workers were also on top of it. They were checking on us and making sure we were doing well. This place is consistently delicious. The ambiance is lovely and even if you are going for a casual breakfast or brunch it feels special. You're nestled in their outdoor eating area enclosed with planters and well kept greenery, so the setting is lovely. I've been here before it became so popular, which didn't take long because everything is delicious. They make all their breads and pastries, as well pastas in house. This place is in my breakfast rotation as going earlier helps avoid the long wait. If you want to avoid the crowds, weekdays are better. They also have their coffee shop so if you just want to order a coffee and pastry to go, walk right in and order. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My favorite two breakfast options are the Italian muffin which is sausage and fennel sandwich and the steak frites if you're feeling fancy. Order a coffee or spice it up with a more brunch worthy drink. I love having this place nearby. Parking can get a bit tough since their lot is small but you usually find street parking, walking a few blocks doesn't hurt. Now they serve dinner by reservation only so I'll need to try that next. read more

Perfect lunch spot to chit chat with friends! The food is delicious but what sets Nonna Mercato apart from the rest is the atmosphere. Such a relaxing vibe to sit out on the patio underneath all the greenery with beautiful pastries and lattes at your table. We didn't realized the kitchen closed a couple hours before 6pm so we arrived with only 2 mins before the kitchen closed. They still sat us and were so polite and friendly! This place came as a recommendation from our friends who live in the area. We'd already been to a few brunch spots but didn't look at the menu or anything ahead of time. This is a lovely little shop with only outdoor seating for the restaurant but you can go in and buy bread, coffee, and other pastries to go. Our server, Ki, was very kind and offered phenomenal suggestions. The peanut butter latte was delicious and tasted like a liquid reese's cup. I ended up getting the croque seniora which was a stuffed ham and cheese croissant with eggs on top and heaping fresh salad on the side. I came for the Nonne Mercato Summer Nights menu, which I think is delicious and worth the price. The reservations are hard to get in advance, but you can always camp on the day-of to pick up last minute cancellations.  The dishes here are simple, traditional, and expertly executed. What Nonna does really well is refined basics, which is what you can hope and dream of for Italian food. I think this is a really special place to enjoy day or night. read more

My friend took me here for lunch because it's her favorite restaurant, and now I'm going to be craving it all the time. The pastas are made fresh and you can really feel the love and care they put into the food. I haven't had pasta this yummy since I was in Italy. I loved the meatballs so much, I wish I ordered another. The star was the bread that comes with the meatballs though!!! Amazing! I'd found this place on instagram (my algorithm knows I love pasta) so it had been on my list to try. I wasn't expecting it to be nestled in a very unassuming area- close to Chipotle and across the street from a church. There was a small parking lot in the back and parking on the street in the front. Arriving, I saw people waiting to be seated so I knew it would be good. The wait wasn't too long.. 30 minutes. Matthew provided impeccable service and answered or questions with an expert level of knowledge. We tried the rigatoni and the carbonara paired with the country loaf and their seasonal lemonade. So freaking GOOD. Bread and pastas are made in house. The jam with the bread!? OMG! Portions were perfect, and the food was bursting with flavor. Everything was so fresh. I'm assuming today was just an off day for the kitchen. Everything we ordered today was super salty. Even the salads. I ordered a Steak Frites Med Rare and it came out well. Not a big deal but when i actually ate it, the meat tasted so funky. Almost gamey. I'm ok eating well done steak but the after taste was horrible. Ruined my appetite and didn't end up eating anything. Super disappointed especially because I drove from Irvine and waited over an hour just to get a table :( I even heard other tables complaining about their food. Food, service, and ambiance are ALL there! My friends and I had the meatballs, burrata, carbonara, steak frites, and fusilli and enjoyed each dish! If you like punches of flavor, this isn't your spot - but I will say that the present flavors are all well balanced in each dish. Their bread is fantastic, pasta cooked to perfection, and they do not skimp on cheese or sauce! The service was perfect - friendly, drinks and food came out in reasonable time, and hit our table the perfect amount. The patio is packed but not overwhelming and you can hear your table speak, which is fantastic. One of the best Long Beach has to offer is definitely Nonna Mercado. This place is relaxing yet exciting at the same time. I get excited here for their lattes and their brioche. Amazing bakery! I like their breads, pastries, and the focaccia pizza. There was an incident where we were given the wrong bread that we ordered online (ordered olive which I think they don't make any more). My husband went back to the staff inside to say the bread tasted sweet and he just said raisin bc it was the first thing that came to his head. The staff said oh we don't use raisins and did look at the loaf. When I saw the loaf at home I said this is definitely not olive, and I looked at their menu and there was a walnut and cranberry loaf which this definitely was. We expressed our concern over email bc I felt my husband was not taken seriously when he had tried to say he was given the wrong loaf -- and luckily neither one of us has a nut allergy either! The chef did an excellent job highlighting southern Italian cuisine and I would go back for the food. My main issue is the time it took between courses. I figured it would go fast since it was essentially a prefixe menu with a few options. It took 3 hours to complete these courses. We were never given any indication on the time between courses or given any update time n how long each course will last and our waiter disappeared at the end of the night so we had to wait 10 minutes for the check and 10 minutes afterwards to pay. read more
