There may be a little waiting at peak times as the place is popular. Dietary restrictions? They are reasonably gluten aware and do offer GF bread or toast. Vegetarian options. They ask whether you want onions in the potatoes. The food: Ate a nice omelet. It was fluffy, oversized. My spouse praised the hash. Home fries are exceptional, perfectly cooked and with delicious seasoning. Coffee is strong and endless. Portions are large. Service: staff is friendly, attentive, hardworking. It's just ok. Will not go out of my way to come to this place again. We ordered a breakfast plate which consisted of a spinach omelette and home fries with onions. There is an up charge for onions. The omelette was overcooked and had a very minimal amount of filling. I requested the egg not come out with a brown skin on it. It changes the whole flavor of the egg. The second order was a cheeseburger that came with a mile high pile of deep fried chips. Fries on the side is an up charge. I love breakfast places in general. I had ordered the "benny omelette" which had corned beef hash covered in hollandaise sauce... which was so good and a very popular breakfast dish! I usually don't like corned beef hash either! Tip--they'll ask if you want onions in your homefries it cost an extra 25 cents and the onions aren't cooked or caramelized like I thought it would be (I personally was not a fan of the onions). Great find! Efficient, friendly service, adequate portions of flavorful food. My friend and I went here for breakfast based on a couple of the Yelp reviews and proximity to our hotel, and were very happy with the decision. I had poached eggs with home fries and sausage. (Patty sausage -- it was very good.) And my friend had scrambled eggs with home fries and rasin toast. We both enjoyed our meals, and commented on how well seasoned the home fries were. (They are available with it without onions.) Bottom line: I would definitely return if in the area in the future. read more

We have LOVED coming to Gathering Ground for weekend breakfast. We on average come once every 2 weekends and we love it here. It's a no frills, but great food place. Their menu is fairly extensive, and you even build your own meal - i'm on a low carb diet, so i just ordered eggs and bacon the other day - and prices are really good. Service can get a bit backed up if the restaurant is busy - we've learned to just go earlier in the morning to avoid this. But overall - we love that it's a local spot - the food is ALWAYS great and the prices are really reasonable as well. We have tried many things on their menu - including their specials, corned beef hash, breakfast sandwiches and omelettes and NOTHING has disappointed! They do take credit card (including Discover) so that's always a bonus! read more

Food was fantastic. Vermonter omelet (cheese bacon apples) was fluffy, flavorful, really great. Home fries (with optional onion!) perfect. I also got the beef hash bc people were raving about it on yelp but I didn't care for it. Maybe it's just me. Coffee was way way better than anticipated. I have never had a less than perfect experience here. Food is phenomenal. Crabby Benny waaaaay exceeded my expectations. Two crab cakes take the place of the English muffins for their take on eggs Benedict. The food is fresh and made to order and I have seen no frozen premade Sysco crap :) a huge plus there! Also the menu is available all day breakfast and lunch so if a Philly cheese steak strikes you at 6:00 am, this is your place! The employees are so nice. They are, or at least seem, genuinely happy to be there. Very polite and attentive. The owner is the cook so you know the passion is there to keep his dream a reality. I love a good breakfast, whether it be a greasy spoon place such as this, or a more exciting menu like Sylvester's in NOHO. Not sure why I continually torture myself with subpar breakfast experiences, when I have a couple of reliable establishments (I like to keep my options open) but I thought I would give it a go. To start off with I always doubt the quality of coffee an establishment has if they have the prepackaged creamers at the table (would it kill you to provide chilled half and half to a table once they order coffee)? Service/Ambiance: Both were satisfactory. Food: I got the vermontenator omelete (chedder cheese, sliced apple, and bacon). I was expecting a very robust flavor but it just fell flat on all accounts. The home fries were decent. The wife got their breakfast sandwich with mushrooms and andouille sausage. It sounded awesome, but again left wanting for flavor, the sausage lacked the spice I'm accustomed to, and it just lacked seasoning. I certainly won't be returning, and it seems maybe I went on an off day, but considering I have a few places that have yet to let me down I don't see why I would give this place a second chance. read more

Overall this place is a great brunch restaurant with friendly staff. The food here reminds me of Pittsburgh brunch places-greasy and large portions. I would definitely recommend coming here for brunch but am giving it 3 stars because the food here is average in taste. Next time I will order the toast un-buttered since it was too much for my taste. The true and best testament would be that of my 15 yr old son, who absolutely LOVED it on my first trip! And, yesterday, I took my mother for her 71st BD, and I think she loved it even more than my picky son!! Where did you come from, Gathering Ground!? Between flights at Bradley International, I needed a bite to eat. Because it was 5am, I thought that Dunks would be the only thing open. Glad I checked Yelp! Gathering Ground is a surprising diner. The service was impeccable (maybe because we were one of 4 tables at 5am, but great nonetheless). The cook came out to personally check how we enjoyed our meal. All in all, this is an incredibly family-oriented, "where everyone knows your name" kind of place. I ordered the waffle and it was delicious. It was fluffy and homemade. My mother ordered the veggie omelet with French toast and loved it as well. My daughter and I went here for breakfast on Sunday morning wasn't busy got seated quickly. And that was the only positive aspect of our visit. She ordered two eggs toast bacon and home fries and the only thing that came out good was the bacon. There was green stuff on the egg, showed the waitress and her response was oh I'm super sorry about that.. Then the pancakes were super thin, and doughy and soapy. Told the waitress and she took them back and brought us back some French toast. And I don't know if it's the egg that are using or the milk but the French toast were nasty as well. Saw that they make Reubens and I just had to come and eat one. Was cooked perfectly and the rye bread was toasted perfection. The home made chips were also spectacular. The waitstaff were a cut above, they all checked on me to see how the meal was and if I needed anything. Last time I ate my dining partner asked for a steak and cheese with eggs added in a particular way (fried and then mixed in) and they 1) were flexible and accommodated the special request without hesitation and 2) got it perfect.
