    Eggs over, over CBH, 4/11/24
    Rich B.

Been here many times, and hard to believe I haven't previously written a review. But Yelp says I haven't, so here goes. The food has always been really good, especially the CBH, which is housemade. Very clean eatery, and fair prices. Nevertheless, about 2 years ago, I stopped patronizing. It had gotten to the point where service was snail like. And it was both in the waitstaff and kitchen. It seemed there were always signs up advertising for help. In fairness, part of this was COVID related. A few days ago, two friends wanted to try a local place for breakfast. We went here, fingers crossed. The place was pretty busy, but... our server, Jessica, seated and greeted us promptly and took drink orders (which came quickly). My two friends both ordered eggs over w CBH and toast. I ordered a ham and egg on a grilled roll. I was amazed how fast the food came out. Everything was eggggcellent and Jessica checked on us several times, keeping us well caffeinated. Gathering Ground is back on its game! 4.5 stars

Omelette with bacon and GF toast.

I met a friend from GA that was traveling through CT on the recommendation. The restaurant was busy but we got a booth right away. You can tell this is a regular spot for people. The waitresses knew people by name and greeted everyone warmly. You immediately feel welcome here. I have a gluten allergy. I had an omelette with potatoes and a side of bacon. The omelette was so fluffy and was excellent. The bacon was crisp and well cooked. I usually don't like potatoes but they were excellent. I ate them all. I had the GF toast. Very good. My DD had pancakes. They were huge and very good.

Delicious food, good, no frills service and a comfortable setting. Absolutely great place for breakfast or lunch.

Great breakfast in a joint that is clearly patronized by locals and that's a good thing. I had warm, welcoming service, a lake of coffee and a delicious breakfast served by a waitress who was pleased that I was here. I chose the corned beef hash breakfast, which came with two eggs that I ordered over easy and rye toast. It was delicious and thoroughly enjoyable. A good portion and cooked with care. No fancy frills here and that's perfectly okay with me. I had a great breakfast. [Review 15189 overall, 691 of 2021, number 41 in Connecticut.]

    Crazy corned beef hash

Classic American diner, that primarily serves breakfast and lunch. After working a long graveyard shift, grabbed my favorite go to breakfast combo of corned beef hash with sunnyside up eggs, wheat toast and a piping cup of black coffee. If I'm feeling extra, I throw in a fresh, crispy hash brown patty to boot. The waiters were always welcoming and the price is just right. If you're ever in this area and need to start the day with a good breakfast, this is the spot!

    Corned beef hash. Excellent!

Coffee was like mud and service non existence. The waitresses more interested in visiting than waiting. Food mediocre.

"And there's fire on the mountain Lightening in the air…read moreGold in them hills and it's waiting for me there" (Marshall Tucker Band) Fire On the Mountain has one of the most unique menus I've ever encountered. Seriously, where else have you ever seen breakfast quesadillas, catfish and grits, cheesecake cornbread waffles, smoked brisket hash, deep fried pork ribs, catfish, mushroom, and alligator tacos, and a Puerto Rican Rice Bowl all happily living in the same menu's neighborhood? And then, the icing on the cake was our server - a charismatic and uber-friendly gent named Bromwell who lights up the room with his personality. He made my list of the five greatest servers I interacted with this year. The restaurant's location is as unusual as its menu. You'll find it occupying the front space at the Suffield Commons Senior Living Apartments! Yup, as you walk through the restaurant and out their back door, you actually enter a common space for the housing complex. The restaurant itself has two dining rooms with booths, tables, and chairs and a bar with dining room chairs. That eclectic menu is chock full of breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices with Mexican and barbecue flairs. We were there for lunch and ordered two things. The first was an enormous Cheese Quesadilla ($9.35) with pork ($3.12) on a grilled flour tortilla served with sour cream and pico. It was a thing of beauty, cut into five thick wedges loaded with smoked pork. Our second item was a Caesar Salad (Half size for $6.23) with a side of smoked brisket ($9.36). I passed on the croutons and Caesar dressing in lieu of barbecue sauce as my dressing. I gotta tell you, the brisket was GREAT, a big serving of tender and juicy smoked beef cut into four slabs that must have totaled close to a half pound. We loved everything about Fire On the Mountain and agreed that we need to return for a proper breakfast when we are out that way or making a morning airport run. PRO TIP The restrooms are located in the housing complex's common space I described earlier/ Just exit the restaurant by the door in the rear dining room, and you're just about there.

The baked scrod sounded good and I flipped my red wine order to sauv blanc. A very good house salad immediately came out. Fresh and full of good lettuce. Not cheap iceberg as well as plum tomatoes and cucumber and red onion. Nice! But it went down from here. Tick tock. Tick tock. Time goes by. The barteneder spending time talking to her favorite guests seemed aggravated that I interrupted after 15 minutes and asked if my dinner was arriving anytime soon? Just as she went to check it finally came out. And was not worth the wait. A $6 piece of cod sitting on mashed potatoes and soggy spinach just saturated in butter. A fish soup almost. $25? Ah not. I was just about to try dessert and the guy next to me ordered another drink for he and his girlfriend. The bartender said no. "We have a three drink max rule." Rude. To the point. Ruined their experience right there and mine too since i already had a martini and a wine. So, I wasnt going to rish an espresso martini with dessert and add more cost to be cut off. Anyway, i decided to skip dessert and just go. I left wanting an underwhelmed.

Perhaps their other food is better than what I ordered, which was a combination grinder, but I have to say compared to others that I've had in the area, this seemed more like a 7-Eleven convenience store hoagie with its limited amounts of meat and cheese. The other thing that I'll mention )just because it seems to be a theme at every restaurant that I've been to around 8 PM in this town), everybody seems to be far more concerned about walking out the door two minutes before they're supposed to close is the impression they leave on guests now walk in 20 or 30 minutes before closing time. This will be the third time I've been to some quick family dining establishment in the area that I've had this experience-- I'm gonna offer management the same advice that I've offered to other establishments nearby: If there is a time of day that you want to leave work, you should close your business in whatever time it takes for you to clean in order to make that happen as opposed to risking guest walking in and being made to feel as if their inconveniencing everybody who works there for making the decision to go to your establishment to spend our money.
