Exterior view of Airway Restaurant in Windsor Locks, CT, at night. The restaurant has a brick facade with a lit sign displaying its name and offerings. There are large windows with interior lighting and a neon 'Open' sign visible inside. The parking lot in front shows two parked cars, and the sidewalk leads to two doors serving as the entrance. The scene is illuminated by exterior lighting, highlighting the building's features.

Basic decor, nice server, horrible burger and good meatballs. I came here on a whim. Lots of good reviews and slightly off the beaten path. So decided to give this place a try, see if the reviews are warranted. Outside is nothing special. It's a little worn but not majorly so. Went in and was greeted by a single server. Told me I could sit wherever and got a to-go menu. Asked for recommendations, none came to her mind. So I went with my staples, a burger with fries (sweet potato this time around), a side of meatballs, and a slice of carrot cake. As I glanced around at the empty restaurant, some of the tables had yet to be cleaned. I suspect they were waiting for the end of their day to do a full clean. Not a great sign, but I can't say that for certain. Meatballs came out quick, and were actually really good. Not tough, good ragu, not buried under gobs of cheese, little bready but seasoned. Overall a very solid start. The burger...that was a major flop. Overcooked, unseasoned frozen patty with unseasoned sautéed onions and canned mushrooms. On a lightly toasted but unbuttered bun with bagged fries. This burger was very much the chef not caring and whipping up a quick burger with long stored ingredients. This is a diner, expecting gourmet eats from a diner is not realistic. I do ask if the food is better than fast food, and that's very much a no here. With fast food, things are lighter in portion but seasoned and designed to be tasty enough. Here you get a bigger patty but it's like chewing on rubbery pebbles. Couple this with a long stale carrot cake slice with dried frosting on top, and you got the signs of a place trying to do too much with no quality. This I will say in their defense. The meatballs show that the chef, when they care and can control their product, is able to cook and cook well. If you ignore anything that is a freezer or restaurant depot item, then you will get something tasty. I highly suspect any good reviews are from items that avoid those trappings and forces the chef to actually cook. So I'm chalking this meal up to a staff that had a rough week and just stopped caring. They really need to focus on their product, make sure their basics are sound and focus their menu. If you don't have enough business to cycle through stock then reduce the menu. Limit the dessert selection, make the foods you know you can do well, and sell those. If you can't make desserts, then find the best place that can and partner up with them. For those considering going here, avoid the burgers. Aim for foods that you can't store in a freezer and you'll do well.

    Breakfast w 5 friends, 4/15/24

Recently stopped in w 5 friends for breakfast. Service was excellent. Coffee, etc constantly flowed to our table. I had a Florentine (feta and spinach) omelet; others had French toast, egg white omelet, western omelets, etc. First of all, the presentation of my omelet was Picasso-worthy (suitable for framing). However, first time I ever had spinach in or on an omelet where it wasn't at least wilted. Kind of weird, to me. My grits were excellent. For me, they were the hit of the show. Overall rating is 4, which was also the average for my 5 dining partners. Also, first time I've rated them less than 5. Reasonable, good service.

"Fly Translove Airways gets you there on time" (Jefferson Airplane) We were heading home when the hunger pangs forced us to consider stopping for breakfast. But where should we stop? Well, YELP made that decision easy to make once I saw the excellent reviews for Airway. Our server Nadiye was charming, helpful and very attentive while not intrusive. Our breakfast of two omelets and two coffees ran a very reasonable $28.02. Coffees were $2.95 and Nadiye was right there with unprompted refills. An American Cheese omelet was $9.25 and came with two pieces of toast and a side. Now, Airway does sides right, because they offer quite a few -how about Home Fries, Deep Fried Home Fries, Tots, Fresh Fruit, Grits, French Fries, sliced tomatoes, and for a buck more you can splurge on Curly Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, or Onion Rings. I went with a Veggie omelet ($10.95) with rye toast and the regular home fries. Now I have to tell ya the serving plates at Airway are huge, but amazingly our orders filled up just about every square inch of that plate. My veggie omelet was loaded with diced onions, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes. But the thing that surprised me was how great the home fries were. They were cooked on the flat top (we didn't go for the deep-fried versions) and they were so tender and delicious. The portions were huge (so we took home half of each), the service was great, and the pricing was very fair. Great job, Airway!

Lovin me the local mom & pop--especially a truly FaBuLuOuS diner!! We happened upon this newer establishment purely by chance. There are not too many good choices this close in to Bradley airport. We expected mediocre, and we got FIRE. You don't need to be headed in or out of the airport to stop in for a really great breakfast (all day!) lunch or dinner! The choices are plentiful and in large portions. Best part?! Prices are mad low for the area! This is our second time, but def NOT our last. Check it out when flying or...whenever. Give me a shout out if you do, thanks for reading me, & happy healthy yelping!

We had breakfast for six and we were all happy with our food and the service. They were able to fit us in a booth plus there are tables for larger groups. The only thing that was tough was the sound. It got so loud and we felt we had to speak loud to be heard. I wish people could just talk a little softer when out at any restaurant. But the food is consistently good and I love this place.

I am here on business and didn't know the area. The liquor store owner at the corner of north st was graciously willing to help me find a good pizza to go with the bottle of wine I bought. I ordered the margarita with spinach and mushrooms added. The crust was great - puffy and crisp. Plenty of cheese. I will get pizza here again. The only disappointment was no fresh basil is was basil flakes and if I had made in my pizza oven back home I would have put more spinach and mushrooms on it

The image shows a white square plate containing a serving of French fries and a small piece of bread topped with bacon and lettuce. The fries are piled on one side of the plate, with some ketchup and sauce nearby. The bread with bacon is positioned on the opposite side of the fries. The plate is placed on a blue table, with part of another plate visible in the background.

On April 11, I rushed my family off the plane in order to get to these guys to grab a quick-but-tasty dinner before embarking on the remaining two hours of our long day of travel back to Westport. We arrived at 7:30 PM, 30 minutes before closing. Unfortunately, rather than having great pizza, great fried chicken, and an amazing grinder, we were instead served what felt more like the food that comes off of a gas station countertop diner than it did a restaurant that has WOW'd me in the past with they're fantastic food and friendly service. The greeting we received when we walked in; even though it was 30 minutes before closing, was less than enthusiastic to see us... it was clear right off the bat that everybody behind the counter was far more concerned about having their key in the front door at 7:59 then they were delivering great food and service. The grinder was OK. The fried chicken was pliable, but a couple of the pieces we ordered were dried out and shriveled up from sitting too long. The slices of pizza that we ordered, the guy didn't even bother, warming them up. Just pulled them out of the pizza slice case and threw them into a box... either that or if he did attempt to warm them up, they must've already turned the ovens off, and they threw it into a cold oven. A word of advice for the management of this restaurant, if you want to be out the door by 8 PM, close your restaurant at 7 PM so nobody comes in and bothers you all while you're trying to clean. To be fair, if you're thinking about this restaurant as a great stop for lunch, I would still recommend it as the food is ordinarily pretty good (and fresh at that time ) I've eaten here several times and I've never been disappointed.

The staff is friendly (and patient too). We'd never eaten here before, so it took us a few minutes to try to make up our minds what to order. I ordered the "Italian" grinder (Half grinder) with everything (except mayonnaise) heated a little, and I had them add sliced pickle. Pickles cost extra, not sure why. This amazing delicious Italian grinder is literally the best Italian grinder I've ever had from any deli or restaurant! It was at least 4 inches tall, filled with lots of ham, Capicola, and Genoa, shaved lettuce, cheese, pickles, tomato, onions, peppers, and I had them add a little EVOO. I ate the whole thing (which actually was too much for me to eat at one meal, I would have been full with 1/4 of a grinder, instead of the 1/2 grinder, and I didn't eat any side dishes.) It was that amazing, I ate until I was very stuffed. My husband said his (Half) Pepperoni grinder was not nearly as good. It had pepperoni slices and cheese, that's it. He asked for lettuce, but they either didn't hear him ask for lettuce or forgot to put it on. He got it heated. I suggested that he get some sauce or something on it, but he didn't. He said next time, he'll definitely order something different. The grinders are a bit pricey (mine was $13.99 plus 75 cents for pickles, plus tax), so about $15.00 total for a half grinder; however, keep in mind the name of the restaurant, H&M Pizza & GIANT Grinders, and they live up to that name, and they are well worth the cost! I don't know whether or not they will let you order just a quarter of a grinder or not. If not, you can always save the other half for another meal. I want to try a different type of grinder the next time we eat here, and I sure hope that all the others are as terrific as the "Italian". We live 45 minutes away, but it's well worth the drive.

I ordered a 1/2 Reuben sub, 10 wings, and an order of fries--total came to $34+ before tip (I tipped 20%). Waited over 45 minutes, which was already frustrating. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. The wings were overcooked--dry, tough, and lacked flavor. The Reuben was even more disappointing. The corned beef tasted bland and processed, almost like it had been frozen for too long and reheated. There was an overwhelming amount of meat but barely any sauerkraut or Swiss cheese, making the sandwich very unbalanced and not enjoyable. I grew up working in my family's restaurant, and one thing my dad always emphasized: it takes a long time to earn a customer, but only a second to lose one. I hope you take this feedback seriously and improve.
