Pretty solid sandwich shop with tasty grinders and salads located a mile away from the Bradley Airport in Windsor. I was in a hurry to catch my flight, but they were quick to get my order and the entire stop took less than 10mins. As much as it pains me to have to report this update I can't possibly allow a place that I raved so much about two friends and family end up being an embarrassment and disappointment.... On April 11, I rushed my family off the plane in order to get to these guys to grab a quick-but-tasty dinner before embarking on the remaining two hours of our long day of travel back to Westport. We arrived at 7:30 PM, 30 minutes before closing. Unfortunately, rather than having great pizza, great fried chicken, and an amazing grinder, we were instead served what felt more like the food that comes off of a gas station countertop diner than it did a restaurant that has WOW'd me in the past with they're fantastic food and friendly service. The greeting we received when we walked in; even though it was 30 minutes before closing, was less than enthusiastic to see us... it was clear right off the bat that everybody behind the counter was far more concerned about having their key in the front door at 7:59 then they were delivering great food and service. The grinder was OK. The fried chicken was pliable, but a couple of the pieces we ordered were dried out and shriveled up from sitting too long. The slices of pizza that we ordered, the guy didn't even bother, warming them up. Just pulled them out of the pizza slice case and threw them into a box... either that or if he did attempt to warm them up, they must've already turned the ovens off, and they threw it into a cold oven. A word of advice for the management of this restaurant, if you want to be out the door by 8 PM, close your restaurant at 7 PM so nobody comes in and bothers you all while you're trying to clean. To be fair, if you're thinking about this restaurant as a great stop for lunch, I would still recommend it as the food is ordinarily pretty good (and fresh at that time ) I've eaten here several times and I've never been disappointed. read more

Surprisingly, we got off to a shaky start to our Maine/Connecticut adventure here. Salivating in my mind about my first Veal Parm grinder in CT in over a decade--after a red-eye flight from Spokane--they had....no veal. Oh well, move on to a Meatball grinder. And they were....out of meatballs at 11:28AM. Settled for an Eggplant Parm grinder. While it was decent, they sure felt like I didn't need hardly any sauce on it, and if there was provolone on it, you sure coulda fooled me. Wifey had a gyro, but every deli in the country uses Kronos gyro meat, so that was hard to mess up. It gives off a very nostalgic feel which is great. The ording process was simple and the food was out fast. I ordered a meatball hoagie with a bottled water and chips. The bread was fresh but the rest was a little bland. They put sliced meatballs with peppers, onions and marinara sauce. Everything was fine but lacked seasoning and flavor. Imagine taking a turn off Old County Rd in Windsor Locks, a somewhat industrial area of CT, parking your truck or car and walking into a immaculately clean restaurant that makes very large and delicious grinders as well as pizza, pasta dishes, and fried chicken! Then imagine reading the inspiring story of a U.S. Army veteran with multiple bronze stars for heroic actions in Cambodia and Vietnam in the late 1960s. One of his sons is behind the counter as you order an 8" ham and cheese grinder. The place is half full and it is only 11:00 am, a bit early for lunch. The tables are spotless and clean. The carpets are vacuumed. The sandwich is delivered and you notice immediately that the 8" is a very large, probably enough for two less hungry people. Very fresh bread. Great sandwich made to order. The difficultly for me was deciding whether I wanted the sandwich or their fried chicken which looked delicious and fresh. You have to make not of this place and check it out. I gave my order to the owner wife. Very friendly and everyone behind the counter was very oblidging. my order 2 italian combos lol!! no im greedy but one of the grinders was my sister. I couldn't resist trying the fried chicken it was calling me. The ambiance is very casual and they have some popular items on the menu. The buffalo chicken grinder, egg plant grinder & chicken parm. Oh let's not forget the fried chicken. The chicken was fresh from the fryer. Omg the scent was intoxicanting. I purchase a leg & thigh, damn damn.it was banging and all i had was my bone in front of me. A must try when you visit. They have chicken prepared a few different ways, fried , backed chicken and baked 1/2 legs and different flavored wings. Oh almost forgot you can get jojos as well( fried) potatoes. I decided to cut half of one half of my grinder. Let me tell ya'll that was hands down the best italian combo grinder I've ever had. The meats were very tasty and it all just mesh well and it was like a party in my mouth. The bread was nice and soft, and the meat a nice dark pink and good quality cut (tender and not stringy at all), and more importantly, there was a lot of it. By far the best roast beef sandwich I've had in a long time. It's a lot to eat, but I challenge you to be able to put it down. Service was very good too...politely and eagerly took my order, and the sandwich was ready in no time. The menu is amazing -eleven grinders in an 8" $7.99 or 16" $14.99 size, sandwiches as wraps, gyros, or on rolls, 4 sizes of pizza, fried chicken galore, pasta dinners. salads, daily specials, side dishes and a humongous GIANT GRINDER selection for your party needs. One funny anecdote, although they deliver- be careful. I was an ear-witness to half a dozen phone calls involving one ill-fated delivery (somewhere near the Air Museum) that went astray, and there were calls from the driver looking for better directions and calls from the intended customer looking for the food. The roast beef grinder is excellent. Fresh high quality ingredients with huge portions. They never mess up my order either. In my dreams the prices would be 10 percent lower but I keep hitting the order button everytime anyway. I like the meatball grinder too a lot but I wish they would brown the meat a little because even though I know it's fully cooked my brain keeps giving me a false raw meat signal occasionally. read more
