Great local deli near the Marriott. Was looking for a quick to go place nearby and AJs came up. Happy to try a local non chain sandwich shop. Tons of choices to pick from. Not many places where you can order real food to go. They're quick and the menu is good.

The sandwiches were okey, very thin not a whole lot of ingredients but just okay. The service was good, had to be since the sandwiches were thin. They are about $15 dollars each and grab some chips cause you'll be hungry still. The worst part about it is if you get your sandwich to go They charge for the foil/wrap $1.00. I understand times are rough but that's crap. It's that kind of stuff that turns people off to small businesses. read more

Not your average deli. Located next to a Dunkin Donuts (like every other business in New England), this deli is among the more busier sandwich locations that I've seen. Busier than Firehouse Subs, Schlotsky's, and all other well-known brands combined. The sandwiches are made fresh, and there is certainly a large variety offered. All products are reasonably priced, and service is fairly prompt due to a large staff of 4-5 people during lunch hours. Seating here is so-so. Decent enough to enjoy lunch by yourself, yet loud enough to where you won't hear a thing when it comes down to groups of 4 or more people. And if you think that is bad? Try parking here! Limited space due to a real estate firm and other businesses within the small strip mall taking up space with their patrons/clients. Strongly recommend to get here early. I've been to the Whole Deli twice now, and both times the food has been amazing. The Turkey Club was so fresh and satisfying! Even down to the iceberg lettuce, this place has incredible ingredients. I can taste the difference from other sandwich places. The service is also super friendly and they are super fast! I was in and out in 5 minutes. The first time I was there I waited a bit longer (closer to 10 minutes) but it was a much busier time of day on that trip. Definitely recommend checking out this gem of a deli. Located in the Dunkin Donuts plaza across the street from Price Chopper/Buffalo Wild Wings, Whole Deli just opened up in the old space occupied by Gabriel's Giant Grinders. I had lunch here today, and it was quite an enjoyable experience. The interior is freshly painted with wood accent panels and small colorful paintings -quite a step up from Gabriels super drab run-down look. Whole Deli sells nine "Specialties" -basically sandwich combos for around $7 to $10, sixteen basic sandwiches for $6 to $8, six paninis for $7 to $8. Add in six hot grinders, breakfast sandwiches, and salads, and you have quite a nice ambitious menu. I had a salad with turkey and it was stellar- crisp veggies and a healthy portion of super fresh boars head turkey. A salad and a can of pop ran me around $7. The young lady who took my order was super nice, friendly, courteous and efficient. All in all, its nice to have another dependable place nearby for lunch. read more

This spot can get popular for lunch, as it's generally very reliable and quick. If you time it well, you can get in right before or after the lunch rush. They have a good selection of hot and cold sandwiches, paninis, and wraps and always some specials. I often go for the Pastrami Lovers because it also includes bacon (!) Sandwiches are huge portions - and everything is fresh. We generally call-in ahead for lunch, and everything is carefully packed. They have a big menu, and plenty of drink options available. They also have a large selections of chips and other side orders. Favorite sandwiches so far are the High Protein Wrap, Chicken BLT, Marilyn Monroe, and can't go wrong with the Turkey Club. Never tried Whole Deli for breakfast, but good to know they get high marks for breakfast as well. In addition to sandwiches, they also have a "make your own salad" option. Lunch time gets busy so call ahead, or get there early. Generally, plenty of no-hassle parking, but depending on the hour, the lot does get busy, as the location is right next to a Dunkin' Donuts and a variety of other businesses. read more

BEST DELI EVER. I stopped by here on my way to the airport for a quick breakfast sammie for the plane. Small, comfortable place. Out comes a thirtysomething from the back...says hello...looks a bit like Short Run from the Temple of Doom Indiana Jones movie. My guess is he's the owner. You'll see why in a minute. Nice guy, too. I pick a "Steak, Egg & Cheese" on a hard roll, lightly toasted. He goes to work. My steak is the "cheesesteak" kind. He gets my egg going and then drops the slivers of steak on the grill. This guy is METICULOUS. He's a cross between a surgeon and an artist...you can just tell he's proud of his craft. He works that steak like it's the cure for cancer, but it's also been commissioned by the pope to hang in the vatican. I just know that this breakfast sandwich will bring me closer to Mecca. When he's finished (which is very quickly, I might add...) he quotes the price and I reach for my credit card. As I hand it to him, he takes it with TWO hands, and slightly bows. He respects this transaction. I respect this transaction. I slightly bow back, and smile...feeling that an age-old American tradition of deli patronage has just been elevated. Later, I get on the plane. It takes off. I open up my sandwich that is still warm, because of his careful wrapping in foil. I take a bite. I swear I can hear a faint harp in the distance. What the hell? Oh, that was just my taste buds letting me know they approve of this sandwich. In fact, it's the best damn breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Thank you, sir. Located right off I-91 in a small shopping plaza that also houses a DD and dry cleaners, Whole Deli has become one of the monthly luncheon spots for my brother and I. They have a very friendly staff, a very extensive menu of salads, grinders and panini's, which I will admit was a bit overwhelming the first time I ate here. Whole Deli also prepares all their sandwiches with Boar's Head products, which to me is a sign that they take quality seriously. In addition they have a case of side salads and in the winter several soup choices are offered. Although most customers I have seen past through take there orders "to go", Whole Deli does have a small dining area if your are so inclined to "dine in". Service is fast and the food is fresh. Ran across this deli on my way to the airport. Wasn't feeling airport food so was excited to see such a well reviewed local spot with good to-go food options. This deli is located very close to a gas station as well so perfect spot to stop by on your way out of the city. This deli has all the options of Boars Head deli meat and will not disappoint. If you cannot find a sandwich on the menu they also provide a build your own menu. If you aren't in the mood for a sandwich they also have several options for wraps. I opted with the wrap and got it in the spinach flavor. They have all the toppings you could ever dream of and the staff is very friendly to answer any questions you might have. Great place right off the highway to snag a solid sandwich or sub! The meat, Boars Head, and ingredients are top notch and fresh. The cooking griddle and food creation areas are right out in the open, no secret nasty kitchens to be found! I've tried several sandwiches and they are all spot on delicious; even better, they have often seasonal and new creations. And to top it off, the menu is gigantic, a taste for most anyone can be found here. My only complaint would be the call-ahead service, it's usually fine but on a busy lunch afternoon I've been left on hold indefinitely on a few occasions; however I can't fault this venerable establishment too much as it's run by a pretty small and energetic crew. Anyhow, I had the Chef Special - Roast Beef, Turkey, Ham, Lettuce, Tomato, Horseradish, Swiss Cheese on a Grinder. Probably the best deli sandwich I've ever had. Bread was fresh and chewy with a light crust, the combination of meats with fresh tomato was great, but, the show stealer was the horseradish. I've been to this location a few times. I work nearby and visit when I want a decent sandwich. They have a pretty good menu to choose from and even have the option to make your own sandwich. Boarshead meat is used for the cold cuts, which is great quality. The only downside is that the restaurant is smaller. It gets pretty crowded around lunch time. I try to go before noon or after 1 to avoid the crowd. I wish there was more seating so I could sit and enjoy my food. read more

This is a perfect example of a place that was solid initially and has gotten even better. Full credit to my wife who was a fan early on and told me I was underrating it. The chicken salad, chicken philly, and the Godfather sandwich are really excellent. Fresh ingredients, and consistently good - I haven't had a bad sandwich. The potato and pasta salads are decent, and they carry the full line of Deep River chips. The staff is very friendly during the week and in weekends, which is a plus. Well I know not to listen to anyone's reviews that gave this place more than three stars. Saying this deli is average is being kind. Ordered the Reuben and a panini. Reuben was dry, cheese was not fully melted. Blah! Panini was soggy and doused in some horrific honey musters dressing that was completely watered down from over ripe tomato. Day hill deli and Zocos are right up the street if you want a good sandwich. In fact, subway is on the same block and does a better sandwich. Not to mention it want cost 25 bucks for two people to eat. Ill just review the food we won't even touch on the terrible setting and decor. Buyer beware!!! read more

I can never say enough about the Whole Deli (both in Rocky Hill and Windsor)... Same owners and they are superbly nice. Roy, who used to run Rocky Hill is now based solely out of the Windsor location. They are across the street from the Price Chopper Plaza in a smaller plaza, next to Dunkin'. Sandwiches are always stellar as they use fresh sliced Boar's Head. I've gotten everything from a simple sandwich to a panini to a Reuben. All delicious. Average price is about $6 for a sandwich but please keep in mind you are supporting a local business, portions are a decent size and everything is fresh and freshly prepared (including all the sides you can get with your sandwich) Big fan of all the dill they use in their pasta and potato salads!! Worth patronizing, especially because Subway is right across the street and comes nowhere close to what they do here. It gets busy around lunch but you can call your order in or fax one over as well. Plenty of seating inside as well as fresh breakfasts (which are also yummy). read more
