Whole Deli is one of those rare gems you stumble upon once and then keep coming back to for years. I've been stopping here every time I travel to Rocky Hill since February 2008, and it has never once disappointed me. It's a fairly unassuming spot from the outside, but the food is absolutely out of the park. My go‑to breakfast order is the quintessential BaconEggAndCheeseOnAHardRollSaltPepper (IYKYK). They nail it every single time -- simple, classic, perfect. For lunch, the "Sweetness" sandwich has been my longtime favorite. It's a unique and surprisingly perfect combination: Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese, crisp red apple slices, and honey mustard on a sub roll. Pair it with one of their deli salads and a bag of chips and you've got an outstanding lunch that hits every note. I only wish I had a deli like this back home in Western NY. It's absolutely something I miss between trips. If you're anywhere near Rocky Hill, do yourself a favor and stop in. Whole Deli is the real deal. read more

I frequently drive by Whole Deli ("WD") in Rocky Hill, but rarely around meal times. Today, I was nearby early morning and stopped for a sausage, egg and American on pressed rye bread. The WD space was clean and functional, and service was efficient. There is an inside dining area and an outside table, but at least for breakfast, WD seemed like more of a takeout business. My sandwich was great. The egg was fried and the yolk was cooked how I like for takeout - not runny, but not fully formed. A proper fried egg (not baked, not reheated, not microwaved) is always a welcome sight. The sausage was very good. I like when a place has a number of good bread choices rather than the ubiquitous "hard roll". I went with rye for a change of pace. It was pressed on a panini press and had grill marks. WD's creation was near the top of my recent breakfast sandwich purchases. WD has a great looking lunch sandwich menu as well. All morning I was craving a bec on a hard role. I have lived by the Whole Deli all my life, passed it thousands of times, but never went in until today. I was the only costumer at the time, the two workers were very kind. They took my order right away and went to cooking. After less than 3 minutes my sandwich was ready and I was out the door. Tuesday 2:00 pm and I was getting hungry. I wasn't in the mood for a dinner, but not craving a salad either. I took a stroll around this part of Rocky Hill and saw this deli from across the street from where I was walking. Looked up some reviews on Yelp and was not thrilled with what I read. To compare the Whole Deli to a Subway that is down the street is insane. I had to check it out. Nice clean restaurant...very small. They have Boar's Head, which is a high quality product. We ordered the Marinara Grilled Chicken and the Rocky Hill. Both sandwiches were awesome. The bread was fresh and tasty. I was told it is from a NY bakery. I guess there are no local bakeries, but I am not going to pull a star. The workers were friendly and patient as they detailed the menu selections to us. The sandwiches were quick to order and serve up. We also got a pound of deli cuts to take home. Sorry, no pics. We inhaled the sandwiches before I considered writing a review. On this end of Silas deane you have subway and whole deli right by each other. If you're willing to spend a couple dollars more whole deli is the better choice between the two hands down. Placed an order for a chicken cutlet sub. Upon unwrapping it, I notice it's grilled chicken. I went back inside and the miserable lady at the counter states ' we don't have chicken cutlet'. The whole deli has been a staple in Rocky Hill CT for many year. In the 80s it was called the Whole Doughnut which I have fond memories of before Dunkin became the powerhouse it is today. An Asian guy working the cash register. He is the owner. And an Arabic guy cooking right behind him. Tables and semi booths for you to sit in. I've never waited more than a couple minutes so it's a great place to stop if you are in a rush. I'm a big fan in supporting local business and especially when they are businesses that are done RIGHT. This place is done right. My ex and I tried this place out back in '08 when we first moved to Rocky Hill and it quickly became our go-to spot for a quick, satisfying and filling lunch. This deli is owned by an INCREDIBLY nice Asian family which is sort of like a conundrum in itself. The owner's wife always wear a sweet and stylish apron, frilly and flowery. It's beyond cute and in my opinion, brightens the place up. The cook has been there since we have been patronizing this place and he knows what he's doing. Everything is always spot on. Whether you get your usual or want to try something different, it's quick and delicious. A few quick nods to the other usuals you can add to your meal - they have Deep River chips and Boylan sodas. So, now I'm an even bigger fan of a local business who supports other local business. They have fresh fruit on the counter as well as in the fridge next to the homemade macaroni salad, potato salad and coleslaw. They changed the mac salad recipe a few years ago and started adding dill. I'm a fan of dill so in my opinion, it's yummy and different. If you aren't, steer clear of any of the side salads. They all have dill in them. Just in recently (there is a new cashier now, young girl) to pick up a couple sandwiches. The owner's wife made it a point to stop me on the way out and ask me if my daughter (who is 2) would like a banana. It was a sweet gesture that only reminded me of why we started visiting this place years ago. This deli isn't going anywhere - they know how to treat their customers and they do it well. I say visit and try some of their best known sandwiches: The Rocky Hill, The Brian, The Sweetness and The Godfather. I got the 'high protein special' on a wheat wrap and was pleasantly surprised at how good the turkey tasted. It tasted almost as if it had been carved off a fresh roasted turkey in-store. The cucumber adds a nice refreshing texture while the hot peppers give it a nice zing. I couldn't taste the mozzarella or avocado whatsoever though. I order my sandwich when a customer walked in who had left with his two sandwiches and came back because they forgot bacon they told him it would cost 2 dollars he replied your going to charge me after your mistake and inconveniencing me? The employee said to the customer you never asked for it you were wrong. She even picked up the slip and said "see its not written down " what ? Stopped in for a quick lunch during my break at work. I was looking to get a blt but at $6.50 I decided it wasn't worth it and opted for a turkey sandwich on a hard roll for 45 cents more. The results were quite disappointing for a place that was steady but not overly crowded. Not only did they forget to make my sandwich, when I ordered it again they were out of hard rolls and gave me American cheese rather than the provolone I asked for.
