Great sandwiches! I've ordered mostly grinders, and rolls from Jimmy's, but over the last year I've been here multiple times a month. The turkey and roast beef are my go to lunch meats and they have generous portions. Love the horseradish cheddar they offer too. The food is high quality and they've never made a mistake on my orders or made me wait too long. I also appreciate the online ordering system they offer so you can save time. I don't live in Torrington, so for me it's really convenient. Highly recommend you try this spot. read more

This place has the authentic, old-school atmosphere you hope to find in a longtime Italian market, and the people working there could not have been more welcoming. You can immediately understand why it has been a staple of the Torrington community for decades. I'm looking forward to returning to try the frozen pastas, specialty items, and famous hot buffet, which I did not sample during this visit. Unfortunately, the deli sandwich itself fell short of what I had hoped for. The portion was generous, but the selection was somewhat limited. I ordered mine on what was described as a "hard roll," but there was nothing hard or crusty about it. It seemed to be ordinary soft bread shaped into roll form--fluffy, nearly tasteless, and without the character or soul of a proper Italian roll. It detracted considerably from an otherwise generously made sandwich. The retail-brand white and wheat bread displayed for customers who wanted sliced bread should probably have been a clue that authentic Italian loaves were not part of the deli selection. Since it is tomato season, I was also disappointed that the tomato and all produce on my sandwich's. They tasted as though they had been nearly frozen - bought cheaply as commodities. Like the bread, unimportant to the sandwich experience ? Two stars overall: two for the genuinely tremendous people and one for the history, authenticity, and wonderful old-school character of the store. There is a great deal to appreciate here, and I will gladly return--but next time, I'll explore the prepared foods and specialty items rather than the deli sandwiches. read more

I have driven by here a million times and have always been curious about it. It has been around for a LONG time. I have heard so many good things about their deli meat. I also have seen on Facebook that they have monthly grinder specials. I was craving a grinder and was in the area so I decided to stop in. They offer a variety of things! They have snacks, deli food and hot foods, such as soup. I got a Genoa salami grinder which is my favorite. It was good but the bread was a little dry. Everyone was very nice. To cannot go wrong with a grinder from this place. We have had ham and cheese, turkey, tuna, italian and meatball. Never a regret ever!!! You can walk in and order or call ahead. Jimmy's, as far as I can tell, is a Torrington institution. I bet if you showed a picture of their outdoor mural to someone who moved out of state, they would instantly recognize it. They do have some staples for a deli - soda, chips, cheese, pasta. The stock may be a little sparse, but if they have it it's in good quantity. They have an amazing amount of locally made products like Ridge Runner Soaps, and Arethusa ice cream and cheese. Don't forget to check out the freezers for gems as well - Jimmy's stocks frozen pies and pastas (which were perfect for the holidays). The star of the show is the deli. They prepare holiday meals you can order in advance, usually have a hot buffer on the far left wall, and of course so sandwiches. I tried their Turkey panini (sans lettuce and tomato), and it was delicious. I've stopped into Jimmy's Store in Torrington a handful of times in the past few months for lunch. Grinders are OK, average, nothing special. Desserts are "Hit or Miss", some are good, others, like a chocolate chip brownie I had once, was dry. Another time, I ordered some meatballs & sausage out of the deli's hot case. Meatballs were very bland and the sausage was dry and crumbly. The marinara was watery, it did not even adhere to the meats. Nick's Famous Mac & Cheese is outstanding -- stringy cheese is the key there for me. Love it. The soups are decent, the best is a creamy tomato w/ sausage & zucchini, it's very tasty. Store is a bit dingy, but the staff is very friendly. Never seems like too much of a wait at the deli counter or checkout -- you are in & out fairly quickly. read more

Read the reviews and I was hungry anyway so I needed to try one of their reuben paninis. The two women I dealt with were super nice and helpful. The place is a little dated but was intriguing. My reuben was a little disappointing though, it was tasty and had a lot of corned beef but like usually happens when there is a a lot of meat it doesn't get heated thoroughly and that happened to mine. I find it a little distasteful. There is no place to sit and enjoy your food so it's either a party in your vehicle or back to work to feast upon your chow. read more

Love this place! The owner is great as are certain employees. Food is amazing and fresh. Plus the house made Caesar dressing is to die for.

Whenever I'm hungry around lunch or when I need a last minute dinner I can always trust Jimmy's store to deliver the best grinders possible. Fresh delicious cold cut deli meat and some of the best verity as well. My favorite is a Turkey grinder, provolone cheese Mayo and onions with a bag of SunChips. But let's not just talk about the deli they have some great hot foods as well. The Mac and cheese is my favorite but I also recommend the goulash, pepperoni bread and the once in a while Buffalo chicken Mac & cheese. A good, Italian oriented market. They have several rotating hot food special each day available for takeout, many of which are excellent (like eggplant parmesan, homemade macaroni and cheese). Sandwiches are thick with meat, but just piling on the meat does not a great sandwich make. They're OK but they have nothing on Carbone's. read more
