Full disclosure - I am an avowed pizza snob, who grew up in Yonkers, spitting distance (with a favorable tailwind) from the Bronx. I am also partial to thinner crust pizza. With that said, i am a big fan of the pizza served by Francesco's, a quaint Italian restaurant and pizzeria founded in 1988. I had heard about it from two friends whom I'd met on the Windsor Locks Canal Trail. Brian goes there every other week or so, normally for pizza. The dog named "June"'s owner also swears they have the best pizza in the Suffield area. So.... Hoping for thin crust, I ordered "Cathy's Favorite", which consists of mozz, garlic sauce, eggplant, ricotta, and spinach (hey, my doctor says to eat more veggies!). To go. When I arrived, the place was a beehive of activity. And the aroma...heavenly. My mild disappointment at opening the box and seeing thicker pizza was outweighed by the quality of the pie. Very generous with the toppings, and my taste buds did a little dance. Definitely a great pie, not at all doughy. Next time, I have to try one of the chicken dishes or house specials. Call b4 going. I believe they are currently closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. read more

Would give it less if I could. We've been coming here for a while now and it used to be very good. Not anymore. Ordered takeout given an hour wait time for a pizza and grinder. Arrive to find the order was never put in the system. They put the order in (while in person) waited another 15 minutes. Then told they didn't have the food we ordered. No offer to comp anything, no apology just rude and disrespectful. Figuring this could have just been a bad day, we tried again a few weeks later. Very similar experience, the order was put in, but not ready when we arrived. Then we were told that they ran out of our order after waiting an extra 10 minutes. I've also heard from someone else in town that had the same experience. I understand mistakes happen. But rudeness and lack of respect isn't a mistake. It's a shame because we always had great food. They've lost a customer and we're happy to share our negative experiences with others who suggest the place or are looking for a recommendation. This isn't the place. Zantos, Tosca and Three Figs are all better local choices and treat their customers well. read more

I've been past this place about a million times. My lady and I decided to try it after I randomly thought about it, while looking up menus. This place checked all of the boxes! From start to finish everything we ordered was fresh hot and AMAZING! If you're looking for a small intimate traditional Italian restaurant I highly recommended this place! 1 1/4 + hour wait for a party take out pizza. Employee was not honest in telling us how long we would have to wait. We placed our order at 12:04 ....4 minutes after this restaurant opened. The restaurant had only a couple of customers in it. Then when we got it home.....yikes!!!!! greasy and cold. This place is a disaster. Back to Suffield Pizza and Family Restaurant. Never again. This restaurant has a new interior and a new menu. Elegant inside, and the food is fantastic. (The food quality rivals any Italian restaurant in nearby West Hartford or Glastonbury.) Our group had warm baked fresh bread with honey butter, lightly fried spicy calamari with crushed marinara sauce, home made meatballs with fresh ricotta, greens with glazed pecans/cranberries/goat cheese, warm garlic cheesy-bread, hot turkey grinder on a home baked grinder roll, and boneless wings with sweet Chile sauce and home made blue cheese dressing. Everything we had was fresh, hot, and amazing. Best restaurant around here by far. A hidden gem... Didn't want to write this as they are already starting to get crowded. My wife and I came to Francesco's on someone's recommendation, so of course I had high hopes for this place. My question is this: How difficult is it to add Italian spices to a marinara sauce and call it Italian sauce? The answer: Not difficult at all ! If you look at Francesco's menu, you really only have three choices of pasta. Penne, spaghetti or linguine (with the exception of one Lasagna dish). No angel hair, no raviolis. When I order pasta with sauce, I expect sauce with "some" Italian spices. Instead I got regular bland marinara sauce. If that's not bad enough, they didn't give me nearly enough sauce. So now I'm eating a pasta dinner that's dry. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a so-called Italian restaurant and expected REAL Italian sauce only to be dissatisfied with marinara that tastes like it came from a jar. Side Note: Francesco's seems to have a decent following and online reviews for their pizza. This review is based on the pasta meals we had. So, with that being said, In my opinion, Francesco's was a disappointment. read more

The food is great, but don't order take out. Twice now, I've arrived at the required 35 minutes wait time for pick up & the order isn't ready. In fact, it isn't even started!!!! I don't know what has happened to this place. Maybe they recently sold it, but take out is unreliable at best. Eat in, if you can, but time it right because it's a small restaurant with few tables. They never apologize or offer money off for the inconvenience. I'll take my business elsewhere where reliability & customer service is a priority. read more

Picked up takeout last night and the small loaf of bread, that came with our 2 entrées, was mostly burnt and hard as a rock. A great spot local spot. I was so impressed with how accommodating they were! We were playing in a lacrosse game on a Friday night in suffield and I had ordered 4 party pizzas for 5:45pm. Then the game got pushed back I needed to change my order until 7:15. They could not have been nicer about the change. (It was a Friday night and those pizza's are huge and they were busy). Last time we went the food portions had not only shrunk, but the quality ( very sadly) had gone down. Everything we ordered was a grease laden mess. Not sure what happened here? 5 STARS !!!! Wow I was pleasantly surprised by this little restaurant. It appears as a pizza/grinder shop but boy it is so much more. Family owned & operated. I have passed by this place for looooong time and I regret never stopping in. Limited menu but they make up for it with TASTE ! Chicken marsala was Incredible (no potatoes) though but I'm not complaining new Favorite spot & reasonably priced . Oh almost forgot but don't know how don't forget to have bread and butter basket , OMG Fresh homemade bread & homemade special butter yummy literally could eat a pound of that butter it's soooo good . We live locally and order out here quite often. Tonight was the exception. I called to order a meatball grinder and a chef special chicken Gianni. The girl who took my order could not seem to understand anything I was saying , I had to repeat myself multiple times and after about 5 minutes even had to spell out CAPERS. During this entire interaction she was extremely aloof to my growing frustration and was even laughing with another girl. She couldn't make it through reciting my order back without having a laughing fit, and eventually just hung up on me. I called back still trying to hold my composure and got whom I can assume was the other girl laughing with original girl she apologized and I just asked her to repeat my order back, the result ... another laughing fit now from this girl ! I finally had enough and asked her to just forget my order to which she just said ok and hung up. No apologies or even attempt at trying to remedy the situation. Truly one of the most rude and frustrating take out calls I have had to deal with. Francesco's really needs to evaluate their front end staff( rude and immature) since it's really left me and potentially anyone else who ordered out tonight not wanting to return for the foreseeable future. First time dining in here and it was great! My friend who has been here several times suggested this place and they recently remodeled, it looks fantastic! But the real reason this is 5 stars is the food is absolutely delicious, I couldn't believe the size! The service was also wonderful along with the drinks. We ordered the eggplant fries (amazing), the Pecano salad and Chicken Gianni to split. Everything was fresh and prepared exactly how we requested... Today, we ordered a large pizza with pepperoni & sausage. I travel for biz in the northeast which affords me to try some very remarkable pizza places. It would be unfair to compare the pizza here to a New Haven or Brooklyn style, just not the same style. From Hartford to Northampton MA, Id place this pizza easily in the top ten in that geographic area. In Suffield, the best by a distance. What sets this pizza apart is the crust. There are many pizza places within a short drive that use crusts that somehow each are precisely the same shape and size as the cardboard they sit on. The crust here has a light crispy outside and soft inside. Easy to chew. As I am writing, we remain in social distancing amid the Covid19 scenario. The restaurant seemed hopping with a handful of cars waiting for curbside pickup. We'll be back. read more

We've been getting our pizza here for years. It rivals the deliciousness we had as kids in NJ. I particularly like the Fresh Tomato Pizza, but honestly, I like them all. I have even frozen the left-overs and it heats up nicely. The restaurant is very nice and seems to be busy. I would recommend Francesco's and we will continue to get our pizza here. read more

We get take out often but this was our first time eating in restaurant since their reopening and after their renovations. The outside and inside has been beautifully redone to the point of being able to compete with Longmeadow restaurants. Our server Steph was great and one of the owners checked on us, as well and was very friendly. Between the atmosphere, service, and food (which was great as always), Francesco's is a restaurant that people outside of Suffield would travel to! We have been going to this restaurant for years. We ordered off the menu and when we received our check things didn't add up. We looked at the menu again to compare it to our bill. We couldn't believe we were charged more than what the menu quoted. We asked our waitress and asked for the manager. We were told the prices went up due to some reason or another. We explained it's wrong to do that without a heads up. We would never go back there. It's a shame. read more

Used to be our go to take out place but after several disappointing experiences we will not go back. We loved their grinders but everything changed. The sauce, chicken, cheese and bread. Francesco's is our go-to Italian spot in town. In a region of the country that is completely saturated with Italian food places, this is by far one of the best. Family-owned, they are very friendly and always remember us when we visit. Some stars on the menu: -- They make the BEST Buffalo Chicken pizza I have ever had! -- The sauce that goes with the Cheeseburger grinder is to die for... -- Their House salad that comes standard with all entrees is simple, but has a really zesty vinegar-based dressing that enhances it and makes it more delicious. -- Chicken & broccoli pasta is excellent (and a healthier option, too!) Some of the red sauce plates can be a little sweet/acidic and the prices can also get kind of high (upwards of $18-$20 a plate), and I usually stick with one of the above menu options whenever we go, because they never disappoint. read more

My family and I used to eat here a lot and we to loved it! However, tonight I ordered two chicken parms to go and let me just say I would have preferred to have eaten at Taco Bell! The pasta was way over cooked and mushy and the sauce tasted like metal. The chicken parm had no flavor and was also soggy. I will likely never come back to Francesco's after paying over $40 for two soggy pieces of chicken. I have no problem spending money on quality food but when I can make something much more appealing for less than half the price at home why bother? Please do yourselves a favor and pick up the slack, hopefully it was just a bad night but I certainly won't be back to find out! read more
