Sure I'll bump my stars up because Sofia's is consistent. Every meal has been good. Every pizza delicious. I haven't ever left unhappy. Their sauce (gravy) is perfection. Meatballs like mom's. Delicious rolls. Fantastic pizza. Fresh seafood. Portions usually enough for a hearty meal the next day. My 1st visit to this restaurant was recommended. We went here and the ambiance is nice and relaxing, plenty of seating. The service was decent, our waitress was not very attentive at first but we noticed she was busting her back and busy with other tables but she was very apologetic to us for waiting. After that we placed our order and got our food, and boy it was very delicious. We will definitely be going back here. If you're in the area give them a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

Very good, old school. I was in the area on business and was in the mood for Italian. I sat at the bar. For a starter I had the Antipasti. My only disappointment was the menu listed the ingredients of meat and cheese on their house salad. The house salad listed ingredients as well, but when the antipasti came out, it had black olives on it which I can't stand. I would have requested not have them included if the menu listed them. For my main I had the Eggplant Parm which had fresh eggplant, not frozen. It was very good. It came with a "side" of pasta and I selected Angel Hair. The eggplant was placed on top of the pasta opposed to the pasta on the side which made it a little difficult to eat and the amount of the "side" of pasta was enough for an actual entree. Met a friend for a drink and dinner. This location has been around awhile and beloved by locals. However, for a non-local it's just average, at best. The service was great. Dinner rolls were soft and hot. My salmon salad was huge but the salmon lacked flavor and tasted weird. My friend had the cheeseburger and it was fine but nothing special. read more

Wow the food at Sofia's is incredible. They have a lot of tables for a quiet evening including larger areas for large groups. The servers are friendly and the front desk is very helpful. The baked scrod was delicious but my go to is the lobster ravioli. The kids enjoy the pizza and lasagna. read more

We eat whenever we are in the area. Upon seating they bring fresh hot dinner rolls with butter and a plate of seasoned olive oil. They kept bringing rolls as we waited for our order. My order was the Sofia special which is a trio of lasagna, stuffed shells, and eggplant, served with a side of pasta. My husband had the meatball parmigiana plate with oven baked meatballs and peppers covered in mozzarella cheese. The dinners come with a soup or salad. Boys had a half pepperoni - half sausage pizza, which they thoroughly enjoyed. With no room for more food, we had to try the Tiramisu....delicious! Total tab? $77. Great service as well! read more

Excellent service, excellent menu choices, very flavorful and large portions. First time here and definitely coming back! Ordered steak medallions over risotto super flavorful, tender and the risotto was mixed with fresh vegetables. My husband ordered the steak and scallops and it was cooked to perfections and full of flavor. We both could only eat 1/2 the portion so we have lunch for tomorrow. I was lucky enough to get to sit next to a waitress who was off work and a bartender, both of who had wonderful personalities, and made me feel very welcomed thousands of miles away from home. Coming from a small landlocked state, they were more than happy to explain a couple different types of fish. They had a different type of seafood in presented me with great options to choose from. For some reason your server decided to not even greet me, it was well over 8 minutes of me being seated with not even a hi, the hostess confirmed the server was made aware I was there so it left a sour taste in my mouth. Although Sophia's is a little dated, its food is not. The zuppa da clams with linguine was delicious. A dozen or so of fresh clams with a delicious red sauce were on par with fancier restaurants at 3x the price. A cup of delicious clam chowder and a huge salad prefaced the meal. Fresh rolls and dipping oil was also presented. My girlfriend's meal of chicken francais was also delicious though a little oversauced. A slice of ricotta cake and wonderful service by a pleasant waitress ended our experience. We will be back. read more

Wrote a previous review but felt compelled to update it now that we have tried more menu items. Unbelievable eggplant. Unbelievable macaroni sauce and meatballs. Unbelievable Italian entrees (this restaurant is owned and operated by Italians). Unbelievably friendly service and hospitality. Unbelievable prices (a side of meatballs and sauce with bread for $3 !!??). Soup is homemade. Salad dressings are all homemade as well. Kudos to Sophia's for being a seemingly safe place to dine. There is outdoor seating under a big tent (where I noticed an employee wiping down tables and chairs), and indoor seating after a reconfiguration to space the tables. This evening, I ordered a large chicken parm hero AKA wedge (grinder to locals) to go. First of all it was HUGE. I estimate it was about 15" inches long (bigger than any fish my friend, Pots & Pans has caught this year). Also, pretty reasonable at $9.93, including tax. And it was pretty stuffed w chicken, cheese, peppers, and sauce. The disappointment for me was the grinder roll. It was doughy, almost spongy. Very little substance to it. If you've read some of my previous reviews, I've mentioned that a good sandwich/hero/wedge/grinder/sub needs to have good bread, like they have in the Bronx. Or New Haven. Or Providence. And many other locales. And I believe that Sophia's makes their own bread. For the life of me, not sure why their grinder rolls aren't better, because their dinner rolls are really excellent. Which brings me to chicken parm. Sophia's does a really good job w chicken parm dinners. For me, the subs, as large as they are and as reasonable as they are, they just aren't for me. I met my son here for a bite and to catch up. The hostess assumed I was to be seated with 2 other women who were waiting for their friend. I said no, I was meeting my son. I was seated and knew we just wanted water, so the waitress brought water, sliced lemons in a dish, and the menus. When my son arrived, I said we need a few minutes to decide what we wanted to order. We were clearly ready to order, menus closed and at the edge of the table. Our waitress walked by us more than a handful of times, bringing other tables their drinks, salads and bread for their tables. We finally ordered. The waitress apologized every time she came to our table. The salads were full of wilted lettuce, mine had cucumber slices, his had none. The dressing was in a to-go container and the plates were tiny. Felt like a banquet hall. The food was great-I got cheese ravioli and he got chicken parm. No issues with the main dishes. My husband and I came here for dinner for the first two me tonight. We had an excellent meal. Everything we ordered was delicious, generous in portions, and prepared perfectly. However the standout was our server, Sam C. She was friendly and attentive but most of all made me feel safe and welcome, which can be a challenge because of my food allergies. She went out her way to make sure everything I ordered would be safe, and gave me confidence I could trust the food (which is not always true everywhere!). She was incorrect, when we arrived home there were carrots and olives on it. Stopped in for dinner a few nights ago. Found the business to be very busy with takeout as well as in house diners. They did have outside seating under a tent but we chose to eat inside. We ordered garlic bread with cheese, chicken francaise and veal parmigiana. Garlic bread was so-so. Not much in the way of garlic butter and the bread was pretty soft, would have been better if the bread was a little toasty. Chicken dish lacked flavor. Sauce was pretty bland. Veal parmigiana was good but again nothing to get excited about. Just an okay meal, nothing too thrilling, don't think we would order either dish again. It's worth the drive! Everything they say about Sofia's is true. A large menu with great choices, good service, huge portions and great food. On a recent Friday night visit the place was packed. Even then seating was quick and a rear dining area offered comfortable seating. After being seated, warmed rolls and flavored olive oil were served. Starting with the fried calamari as an appetizer, it was an entrée sized portion. The rings of calamari were large, tender and served with a bowl of their flavorful marinara sauce. For an entrée it was linguini with clams in white sauce. Another winner. As I had eaten most of the calamari a half portion of the large plate of linguini was all I could finish. All of the tables were in this dining room were full and everyone was happily enjoying their dinners. What a great place Sofia's is! read more

This is a great place to eat and although its technically a pizza joint it is so much more. You have all your regular pizza joint items like pizza, grinders, etc. But then you have some awesome seafood dishes and fancier italian dishes and some great specials. I have here been a number of times and have had a good experience every time. This place gets packed on certain days so be prepared to wait a little. If they enhanced there drink menu and added just more than wine and beer like more cocktails, mojitos and margaritas than they would have it all. Great spot overall! read more

Went to Sofias for a late lunch. Nice no thrills Family Style and Family Run restaurant situated on a busy intersection of East Windsor. Location, location. We couldn't sit and style, but essentially anything on the menu could be taken out. Of course the decision process instantly increased with so many choices. We opted for easy to eat sandwiches, Turkey Club on marble rye and a Cappicola ham on a fresh hard roll. Both came with a choice of chips and soup. Now that's home comfort. During our short wait, my wife mentioned this was one of her old High School hangouts and the place looked just the same. Good for groups and functions. Anything Italian is the right choice when dining here. read more
