Tried again, decent food but still some stumbles Saw a bunch of good reviews roll in, so decided to make the trek here and give them a fair shake. Sometimes quality gets lost in delivery, so I went for a dine in experience to get it as fresh as I can. Place was quiet, was only myself and 4 staff. Staff were engrossed in conversation, was a slow night. Seated myself and eventually ordered meatballs and a sausage Taormina. After about 35 minutes, everything gets delivered at the same time. I took pics and dug in. The meatball was much better this time around. Soft, almost too loose, but flavorful. The sauce was still really good, and it was coated in cheese rather than being buried in it. That was a solid bite. The soup and bread were good but lacking. The soup needed seasoning, it was creamy with plenty of sausage bits in it, but lacked any semblance of flavor. The garlic bread was soft and crisped nicely. only one side looked toasted, and it had some garlic flavor but it was very subtle. Both needed salt, which helped. The sausage Taormina is a dish I have no frame of reference to, and it was okay as a dish. The pasta was cooked well, the sausage was nice and charred, there was a large portion of pasta, and there was plenty of butter. The issues were that the olive oil and butter didn't really stick to the pasta. Pasta was cooked well, but water was not salted. The garlic was nowhere to be found, and the Italian seasoning and Parmesan was lightly added. Meaning that it was a big plate of buttered noodles with little flavor contrast to help it along. The broccoli was a little firm for my taste, and very much an afterthought. Easy enough fixes. Salt the pasta water, use salted butter and saute garlic cloves in butter. Fully drain pasta then saute pasta in butter before tossing in seasoning, olive oil, charred broccoli, then garnish with freshly grated Parmesan. None of that was done, but if it was it would've been a much better dish if they did. The staff at this location are not use to having dine in customers. Water was never filled, nothing was paced, was only checked on after I asked for the bill, and when it came to pay I waited 5 minutes till I gave up and paid cash. There is a potential here, but it's very much comfortable as the basic pizza delivery joint. In that way, it can be good for that if they focus on that aspect. It's not the best as a dine in location, but they do use quality ingredients and they can put out good food if they want. Good meatballs, good bread, but stick with the pizza and maybe the fried items.

Anytime we have come to Cooley's kitchen. Very consistent with quality and quantity. And yes you will get a higher quantity of food. Salads are hugggge. Small garlic bread is very large. My son loves their grinders and pizza. And the size of the meatballs are big.. we haven't had a bad meal. I normally get salad with grilled chicken and I have had the chicken wings. Friendly staff.. great service. Nice addition to the Ellington area.

It is a nice place if you want to actually sit and talk without a lot of noise or crowds. Great for a date or a relaxed evening where conversation is part of the point. It's priced higher than some other options around, so probably more of a special occasion spot than somewhere I would go regularly. That said, when I want a good meal with good service in a calmer setting, I would come back.

It's much bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. At 5:30, we were the first ones seated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it was good we had a reservation because the tables filled up quickly. Before we even noticed that the room was a bit chilly, someone brought over a space heater to make sure we were comfortable. My mother uses a rollator, and we were pleased that there was plenty of space to park it in a corner near our table. Staff were super helpful in getting her situated. Our server, Nicole, was friendly and attentive, as were all the other staff. We asked if they could do a non-alcoholic cocktail and she said sure, do you prefer something sweet or something gingery? We said gingery, definitely not sweet. With just those instructions the bartender sent over virgin Moscow Mules with ginger beer and fresh lime in copper cups -- delicious! We started with house salads which were fresh and nicely dressed with vinaigrette. Then we had the braised beef & truffle pappardelle, roasted cod, vegetable & mushroom risotto, and the homemade ravioli du jour, which was stuffed with mushrooms, swiss cheese and leeks. The person who ordered the ravioli is a vegetarian, so the chef came out to tell him the sauce had a beef stock base and suggest other options. He went with a truffle sauce. As she was delivering our salads and main courses, Nicole asked if anyone would like freshly ground pepper or grated cheese -- a nice touch that a lot of restaurants don't do these days. We were all delighted our food. For dessert, we shared the ricotta donuts and the cannoli. The donuts came out piping hot, coated in cinnamon & sugar, with a yummy caramel sauce on the side. The cannoli with orange zest, chocolate and pistachios was also marvelous. All in all, it was a perfect evening. Superb food and service, great atmosphere, and attention to our group's special needs. I'd like to make this a family tradition every year.

We went to the front and ordered the butternut squash ravioli in butter sauce and their lobster roll special. Food came out in a reasonable timeframe, we perused the oils and vinegars while we waited. The lobster roll was a flop. Dry lobster on top of lettuce barely warmed on a non toasted hot dog bun. It's a ravioli shop, so I didn't have high expectations, but figured they have worked with lobster before so I had higher hopes The ravioli we got were also a pretty big flop. Raw uncooked pasta in broken butter sauce and no seasoning. The butternut squash filling was puréed to heck and reminded me of frozen butternut squash sides you buy from the grocery store. Not bad, but lacking. The fries and onion rings were good. Bagged but good quality, the highlight of our meal. The staff were friendly, and the space was small but cozy. I highly suspect the faults of the kitchen are mainly due to them not having dine in orders frequently. I would stick with the prepared pastas and make whatever you buy at home.

On Wednesday evening, TT features live music. On this day, it was a singer / guitar player. While she was very good, it can get loud, especially if you're seated in close proximity. I ordered one with pepperoni, sausage and fresh peppers as opposed to roasted ones (which is an option) for pickup. The restaurant was nice. If you're a Prince (the musician, not the one stripped of his title -- too soon?) fan you may love the purple hues. The crust was good chewy. I loved the pepperoni. They cupped and crisped, but in a slightly different visual way than many cup and crisp pepperoni. Very cool. Tasted great too. The fresh peppers ended up being red rather than green. This is a personal preference, but I prefer green. I like the flavor of the green juice better on a pizza. I also think the green color pops better since the sauce and pepperoni are both red. I liked the pizza, but I didn't love it. I couldn't figure out why at first. I think the primary reason was the sausage. It wasn't bad. I just didn't connect with the flavor. And also I prefer larger pieces, than the smaller crumbles Camille's used. If I had this pizza without the sausage, I would have liked it better. I do have a favorable impression of Camille's though.
