This is my first time here! The restaurant is located at 50 Ella T. Grasso Tpke, Rte 75, Windsor Locks, CT. This is a 50's diner. I like the music. The decor is all 50's from the chairs, walls, food, etc. Here's their story: "September 11th 2001 changed my life forever. After 19 years as a flight attendant, I decided it was time for a change. Thanks to my dearest mentor and friend, my dreams have come true. Actually, this all dates back to the year of 1952. My friend had a wish, too! Naif Makol, Jr. loved to eat his burgers when he was only knee high to a grasshopper, at which time, he asked his daddy if he would buy him a hamburger store. "Bah" astonishingly honored his son's request, and the family was in Burger Business. We dedicate the vision behind our concept to an exceptional man, Naif George Makol, Sr., without whose foresight and extraordinary business sense this could have not been possible. Our country was a great place to live in back in the 1950's American families enjoyed simple pleasures like drive-in movies, cruise nights, and car hops. Much has changed today except the memories of a time gone by. Naif Jr. has never let those joyous memories fade so in saying that here we are today. Naif and I wanted to create a place representative of a time when families gathered together listening to Dion or little Richard on the radio or cruising into their favorite soda shop for burgers or dogs. I'd have a milkshake, but they're extremely heavy. Ah! REAL coffee! For my soup, it's Sausage, Pepper and Onion. Rice too I see. It's very good! An unusual soup, I'm also trying the chili. This is good! I got the last of it! Peppers is an odd ingredient. I can't leave here without trying a hot dog (Frankfurter) with sauerkraut. This is good! I liked the buttered bun. No shortage of sauerkraut. For my entree, I'm having a Grilled Lemon Chicken sandwich. This is really good! Notice the square lettuce leaves. For dessert, I'm having a slice of blueberry pie. This is a HUGE piece of pie! It's nice and chilled. I haven't had this in decades! It's delicious! What a great meal here! Those onion rings are freshly battered and are huge! My father always loved diners and "greasy spoons", so I can say I grew up eating at them. The other Connecticut staple besides apizza is the hot dog, so that is typically my culinary choice at these types of places. Skooters is good. The hustle and bustle of serving the food quickly and hot is fun. Not to mention watching everything being put together. I had not eaten here in over 20 years, and tonight it most like gets put back on my rotation. The hamburger was the hand packed one (the only way to go) with bacon, and it was cooked perfectly. The fries too were excellent- I assume all fried food here will be good. The hot dog (Blue Seal brand) was good. I got it with chili and cheese. What threw me off was it was actually chili with beans, normally CT dogs are more a meat sauce. Anyway, it was enjoyable. The New England style hot dog roll was the disappointment, it didn't add to the flavor. (If there was a Dave Portnoy of hot dogs, the better rolls would be 'Texas toast-like'). My coworkers and I stopped in since the restaurant was across the street from the hotel. It's a diner style. Old school feel. Staff was ok. Chef was super nice with amazing customer service. We all ordered the fish and chips. The fish is Haddock and was fried to perfection. We also got a slice of lemon meringue pie. It was tart and sweet. Now the beverages were self serve. I've driven past Skooters diner hundreds of times but never stopped in until today. I'm glad I did. Some places like New Jersey have diners all over the place but in Connecticut they're fairly rare. Early afternoon on a Sunday they weren't terribly busy, so I sat at the counter and ordered a grilled hotdog with mustard and relish the side of fries with a diet Pepsi. Look, there aren't many ways anyone can truly screw up a hotdog, but just let me say this hotdog was outstanding. The bun was grilled that the dog was grilled the mustard and relish was terrific and it was absolutely delicious. The fries were perfectly cooked with a crispy, thin outside and warm and fluffy in the center. The diet Pepsi that accompanied it was great. I was seated quickly, I was greeted warmly, and I was served fast. A hotdog and fries and diet Pepsi came to $14. I will definitely return to try more of their menu, which is pretty extensive! read more

I ordered the seafood platter with whole belly clams, fish and scallops to take out on 4/27. I was really hungry & excited to try it. All the fish was under cooked and the breading was wet and not even edible. I had to throw away my dinner. Very disappointing. The chocolate milkshake was from a machine not made to order. Old white lady is absolutely rude. There was this amazing server who was African American and she was amazing but the old white lady was being absolutely rude to her. We walked out because her rude behavior is absolutely unacceptable. However, she was being extremely nice to the white employees. Now I see why they have a help wanted sign because whoever is running that place is rude as hell, and needs some communication and leadership training ASAP. It's been almost a year since I was last here and I will never come back. VERY DIRTY! It has really fallen off; with what I can see, with laziness. The griddle looks disgusting like it hasn't been cleaned in a while. Grease is literally caked on the sides and edges. And they can't use the excuse that it's been a busy morning because I was the first one in at 6am. You can see how dirty the floor and walls are also. I wonder when the last time that they actually scrubbed the floors. Food was left out everywhere. No hair net or gloves worn by the cook. The food was awful this time around mainly because of the bad aftertaste of grease from the griddle. Additionally I found a hair in my omelette (thanks no hair net) and it was undercooked. Other than the cook picking everything up (toppings) with his bare hands to add to your omelette or sandwich, the food was decent for a dinner! But man, please use something to pick the toppings out of the cold drawer, open wounds, cuts, rashes can cause some severe contamination on peoples food. "I'm gonna sit back right easy and laugh When Skooter and the Big Man bust this city in half" (Bruce Springsteen) I've driven by it up near the airport for years but never made our way inside until yesterday. And I gotta tell ya, our first visit to Skooters was a blast! It's a smallish old school diner, with a counter and tables and chairs, but no booths. We walked in at 8:45 AM on Friday morning, and the counter was full, so we grabbed one of the two available tables. The interior is designed as a throwback to 1950's culture -complete with an old school juke box. As their website suggests, Dion and the Belmonts and Little Richard are available on that juke box to set the mood. Soon we had our first of many interactions with their staff, and they were all great. Friendly smiles, coffees, menus, and recital of the specials followed. During the course of our breakfast there were plenty of check-backs and coffee refills. Our breakfast was two fried eggs with bacon, home fries and rye toast, and three scrambled eggs with corned beef hash, home fries and rye toast. The hash and eggs were mine, and I loved it. The hash was a nice combination of crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and pretty much grease free. The home fries were excellent as well, hot and fresh and a big portion. Coffees were $2.85 apiece, and our epic breakfast totaled $30.59 after tax and before tip. Thanks Skooters for a very enjoyable breakfast. read more

This diner was started by a flight attendant and a friend. She does come around once in a while though I haven't seen her. The food is always made to order and you are right there to see it all. There isn't a whole lot of space to sit and it fills up fast. It's worth it. I love mom & pop places and these people are so nice all the time. Even when they're so busy they do a couple of circles. They keep their sense of humor always. I come here almost every time I'm in this area. read more

Had dinner here while helping my friend move her dad. He really liked the food. He had French toast, eggs and bacon and it looked delicious. My friend had a BLT with fries and she also liked her dinner. I had a hamburger Deluxe with lettuce, tomato and mayo. The patty was rather thin, but it was delicious and the fries were really good. Food came out fast which we really appreciated since I was rather hangry. The ambiance of the while place was on point. We were staying at an airport hotel nearby and stopped in for dinner so my son could get a milkshake. We had a really enjoyable meal and I have to say the service was top notch. I got the fried clams and they were cooked perfectly. Hand battered right before they cook them. Very tasty. My husband got breakfast: corned beef hash and eggs with hash browns and toast. He said it was nothing to get excited about but he ate the whole thing. My son ordered chicken nuggets but they were huge chicken tenders! He enjoyed them and the crinkle cut fries. The corn chowder was great, a little on the thick side. Friends enjoyed their meals for the most part- I think the grilled cheeses were a little dry and the fries were really salty. Service was quick and waiters were accommodating for an allergy we forgot to mention. This place has the vibe of a classic American diner but will not be as extensive as a greek diner in upstate NY. They didn't have a dessert case, I think their desserts are likely from a grocery store and not made in-house. So I am sad to say that it has taken too long for me to visit Skooter's. On yet another layover in BDL I was in search for breakfast and remembered passing Skooter's many times to the airport. Upon entering i felt like a child again stepping back in time when diners were a place to grab some good/warm food and have a chat with the folks you came with or the nice wait staff. With the constant golden oldies playing as a soft ambiance. My breakfast was hot, fresh and ready within minutes. Coffee, not 5 bucks here (refreshing) and not crappy diner coffee either. Just good coffee. Brenda still roams these grounds. I had a short chat as we share some of the same history in aviation I learned from the storied menu. This place is so cute I can't stand it already. The flowers outside of the restaurant are bursting with light and color. The menu is ready to read and full of interesting entrees. They do brkfast all day! I had a no frills basic brkfast. Simply the best delivered in record time! I want to go back and have lunch here. I love well made healthy salads--I will try one soon. The prices do not reflect inflation- Wow! I want to bring my foodie friends here asap. We tried all kinds of lunch spots and I know with confidence my friends will love the experience here. Wait times are very long, even pushed my order back out of nowhere without reason. The young female server spent more time flirting with a delivery man then actually waiting on the tables. The bathrooms were so cold that it was hard to sit on the toilet. There's two people manning the entire place. Guys your down-to-business short order cook. Friendly but wants to cook the food. The other person, a overly friendly lady with a big smile and a gift of the gab. The girlfriend and her got along like peas and carrots. The food came out promptly, and overall it's decent grub. There claim to fame being their carmelized onions, which I got on both sandwiches. The burger was light on the beef, but the flavors were there. The pastrami Mami was a special and it was okay as well. Pastrami was frozen, as was the burger patty. Their onions were good, but more like grilled onions than carmelized. They were still good, but could be a little bit more done. Fries were fried fresh, chili was decently spicy but was kind of plain. Prices were pretty low, except the pastrami which was a premium. The proportions and price at Skooters is unmatched to other diners in the area! Walking in and even just seeing the outside allowed for a retro feel. The seating and atmosphere brings you back to a different time, truly mesmerizing. Joseph was a very kind man and excellent waiter who served our food promptly. After wating for and watching staff just wander around as we sat and waited for our server i noticed so many unsanitary concerns. The tip of the iceberg for me was watching a staff member eat at the counter and then instantly go from that to using his same hands he use to eat with his hands to wrap all of the silverware grabbing forks by the eating side and wrap then. At this time i walked up to the employee and asked for them to cancel our orders as im sure their food prep standards are just as poor. He was quite embarressed and said you are rigjt . If you have a open comcept diner maybe a lot more time should be focused on common sense sanitary standards to keep people from getting sick for starters. Had a very weird interaction here with my family. We walked in about 2.5 hours before close, there was only two men in the place; one of which was an employee and both were white. The guy working told us they weren't open because the grill was being worked on and that we couldn't be served because of it. There was no one working on the grill, the open sign was clearly still on in the window, and the other man in there was eating a meal that he obviously had just received. If you hadn't guessed already this was absolutely racially motivated, as a Mexican family we were CLEARLY unwelcome. Seen this place for a number of year and one night while waiting a delayed flight to arrive, I made the move. Cool exterior, old diner style, tucked among the airport valet lots, hotels, and other fast food joints. Walk in to a small group of people, some regulars, some transient, others looking for some grub off a well used grill. I guess I fit into the latter. scanned the menu board, observed the action on the grill and pies in the glass display. The time came, "What can I get ya, Hon?" A grilled hotdog, small order of fries, and a small coke. The all-in-one Waitress/Grill Chef/Conversationalist got to work on my order and someone else's omelette with home fries. What a master of the spatula and grill iron! The Dog on a butter toasted roll, from what else, the grill; garnished with ketchup and relish. The fries fresh out of the basket and the coke the perfect wash-down from the bottomless, self-serve fountain. A slice of pie, very tempting, given the choices of Apple, Boston Cream, and Blueberry Crumb with a scoop of Vanilla. Passed this go-round; my check, a whooping $8.88. read more
