Grilled hot dog with mustard and relish with a side of fries.
Eugene G.

I've driven past Skooters diner hundreds of times but never stopped in until today. I'm glad I did. Some places like New Jersey have diners all over the place but in Connecticut they're fairly rare. Early afternoon on a Sunday they weren't terribly busy, so I sat at the counter and ordered a grilled hotdog with mustard and relish the side of fries with a diet Pepsi. Look, there aren't many ways anyone can truly screw up a hotdog, but just let me say this hotdog was outstanding. The bun was grilled that the dog was grilled the mustard and relish was terrific and it was absolutely delicious. The fries were perfectly cooked with a crispy, thin outside and warm and fluffy in the center. The diet Pepsi that accompanied it was great. I was seated quickly, I was greeted warmly, and I was served fast. A hotdog and fries and diet Pepsi came to $14. I will definitely return to try more of their menu, which is pretty extensive!

Split hot dog - cooked on the flatiron grill - grilled hard with grilled onions , relish , and mustard . Hotdogs are a must try !

One of our fav spots for a good breakfast or hotdog on the grill ! Classic diner food and the decor blends to the retro vibe . Staff are always polite, fast and accurate . Get there early as seating is limited !

"I'm gonna sit back right easy and laugh When Skooter and the Big Man bust this city in half" (Bruce Springsteen) I've driven by it up near the airport for years but never made our way inside until yesterday. And I gotta tell ya, our first visit to Skooters was a blast! It's a smallish old school diner, with a counter and tables and chairs, but no booths. We walked in at 8:45 AM on Friday morning, and the counter was full, so we grabbed one of the two available tables. The interior is designed as a throwback to 1950's culture -complete with an old school juke box. As their website suggests, Dion and the Belmonts and Little Richard are available on that juke box to set the mood. Soon we had our first of many interactions with their staff, and they were all great. Friendly smiles, coffees, menus, and recital of the specials followed. During the course of our breakfast there were plenty of check-backs and coffee refills. Our breakfast was two fried eggs with bacon, home fries and rye toast, and three scrambled eggs with corned beef hash, home fries and rye toast. The hash and eggs were mine, and I loved it. The hash was a nice combination of crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and pretty much grease free. The home fries were excellent as well, hot and fresh and a big portion. Coffees were $2.85 apiece, and our epic breakfast totaled $30.59 after tax and before tip. Thanks Skooters for a very enjoyable breakfast.

This diner was started by a flight attendant and a friend. She does come around once in a while though I haven't seen her. The food is always made to order and you are right there to see it all. There isn't a whole lot of space to sit and it fills up fast. It's worth it. I love mom & pop places and these people are so nice all the time. Even when they're so busy they do a couple of circles. They keep their sense of humor always. I come here almost every time I'm in this area.

Had dinner here while helping my friend move her dad. He really liked the food. He had French toast, eggs and bacon and it looked delicious. My friend had a BLT with fries and she also liked her dinner. I had a hamburger Deluxe with lettuce, tomato and mayo. The patty was rather thin, but it was delicious and the fries were really good. Food came out fast which we really appreciated since I was rather hangry. The ambiance of the while place was on point. It was anshame the juke box was not working but the music he was playing was rather nice. Service was awesome.

Chicken Nuggets

We were staying at an airport hotel nearby and stopped in for dinner so my son could get a milkshake. We had a really enjoyable meal and I have to say the service was top notch. I got the fried clams and they were cooked perfectly. Hand battered right before they cook them. Very tasty. My husband got breakfast: corned beef hash and eggs with hash browns and toast. He said it was nothing to get excited about but he ate the whole thing. My son ordered chicken nuggets but they were huge chicken tenders! He enjoyed them and the crinkle cut fries. The restaurant is bright and very clean. The service is fast and friendly. We would definitely go again if we are in the area.

Corn chowder

The corn chowder was great, a little on the thick side. Friends enjoyed their meals for the most part- I think the grilled cheeses were a little dry and the fries were really salty. Service was quick and waiters were accommodating for an allergy we forgot to mention. This place has the vibe of a classic American diner but will not be as extensive as a greek diner in upstate NY. They didn't have a dessert case, I think their desserts are likely from a grocery store and not made in-house. I'd stop by again if we were in the area and needed a quick rest stop but otherwise the food isn't unique nor worth a stop.

The story of Skooter's

So I am sad to say that it has taken too long for me to visit Skooter's. On yet another layover in BDL I was in search for breakfast and remembered passing Skooter's many times to the airport. Upon entering i felt like a child again stepping back in time when diners were a place to grab some good/warm food and have a chat with the folks you came with or the nice wait staff. With the constant golden oldies playing as a soft ambiance. My breakfast was hot, fresh and ready within minutes. Coffee, not 5 bucks here (refreshing) and not crappy diner coffee either. Just good coffee. Brenda still roams these grounds. I had a short chat as we share some of the same history in aviation I learned from the storied menu. Stop by even if it is for take out or a quick fueled meal.

Stopped in here on my way back home got the big burger with the grilled onions and onion rings. Great food great service if I'm ever back in the area will definitely stop for more.

This is the epitome of a greasy diner in the best possible way. When you walk in, you have the option to seat yourself at the counter or at one of the six two person tables. The coffee is good, the food is better! Greasy and delicious homestyle breakfast and burgers. Nothing fancy or classy, just great food. There's also a work jukebox in the corner if you want to music with your meal, which adds to the awesome "dive" feel.

I stopped here after reading all of the raving reviews with high hopes of having a great bite to…read moreeat for dinner one evening. Perhaps their other food is better than what I ordered, which was a combination grinder, but I have to say compared to others that I've had in the area, this seemed more like a 7-Eleven convenience store hoagie with its limited amounts of meat and cheese. The other thing that I'll mention )just because it seems to be a theme at every restaurant that I've been to around 8 PM in this town), everybody seems to be far more concerned about walking out the door two minutes before they're supposed to close is the impression they leave on guests now walk in 20 or 30 minutes before closing time. This will be the third time I've been to some quick family dining establishment in the area that I've had this experience-- I'm gonna offer management the same advice that I've offered to other establishments nearby: If there is a time of day that you want to leave work, you should close your business in whatever time it takes for you to clean in order to make that happen as opposed to risking guest walking in and being made to feel as if their inconveniencing everybody who works there for making the decision to go to your establishment to spend our money.

Staff are always polite wether eating in or taking out . Large seating areas ,family style or…read morebooths . Food portions are good but not much flavor .

The service was wonderful and attentive - all with a smile. Special shout out to Bramwell for going above and beyond. The colonial era home and quintessential New England village were the icing on the BBQ. We're not from the area, but when we are back this way, we are stopping in again for sure.

"And there's fire on the mountain Lightening in the air…read moreGold in them hills and it's waiting for me there" (Marshall Tucker Band) Fire On the Mountain has one of the most unique menus I've ever encountered. Seriously, where else have you ever seen breakfast quesadillas, catfish and grits, cheesecake cornbread waffles, smoked brisket hash, deep fried pork ribs, catfish, mushroom, and alligator tacos, and a Puerto Rican Rice Bowl all happily living in the same menu's neighborhood? And then, the icing on the cake was our server - a charismatic and uber-friendly gent named Bromwell who lights up the room with his personality. He made my list of the five greatest servers I interacted with this year. The restaurant's location is as unusual as its menu. You'll find it occupying the front space at the Suffield Commons Senior Living Apartments! Yup, as you walk through the restaurant and out their back door, you actually enter a common space for the housing complex. The restaurant itself has two dining rooms with booths, tables, and chairs and a bar with dining room chairs. That eclectic menu is chock full of breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices with Mexican and barbecue flairs. We were there for lunch and ordered two things. The first was an enormous Cheese Quesadilla ($9.35) with pork ($3.12) on a grilled flour tortilla served with sour cream and pico. It was a thing of beauty, cut into five thick wedges loaded with smoked pork. Our second item was a Caesar Salad (Half size for $6.23) with a side of smoked brisket ($9.36). I passed on the croutons and Caesar dressing in lieu of barbecue sauce as my dressing. I gotta tell you, the brisket was GREAT, a big serving of tender and juicy smoked beef cut into four slabs that must have totaled close to a half pound. We loved everything about Fire On the Mountain and agreed that we need to return for a proper breakfast when we are out that way or making a morning airport run. PRO TIP The restrooms are located in the housing complex's common space I described earlier/ Just exit the restaurant by the door in the rear dining room, and you're just about there.

Made the trek to this little diner to give them a try. The space is small but spacious. Lots of two seat tables and a small bench. Place is cash only, so make sure to hit up an atm before going. Servers were very attentive and friendly. Made multiple coffee refill runs. The coffee is diner coffee, functional but not great. I opted for their French toast bake special, cause I'm a sucker for a good lost bread. No ice cream, so had to do with whipped cream. Had real maple syrup at an upcharge, but could get a half sized version for cheaper. Food came out quickly, took pics and dug in. The bacon was crispy, only a couple lighter spots towards the ends. Whipped cream was from a can, functional. The actual French toast was very well done. Custardy, not very sweet but consistency was on point. Berries were good, but not very noticeable in a full bite. The syrup really helped in getting that true French toast bite of savory, sweet, and warm custardy tastiness. Needed a little more cinnamon and nutmeg in the egg soak to give it flavor throughout, and coated the fruit in sugar or lemon juice to amplify the fruit sweetness. Price wise, was pretty affordable. Everything came out to about 17 bucks which was a good price for the quality offered. As a meal, it was a rather tasty dish for the price. It knows it's a diner style place and they take the same corner cuts that diners usually take. But this makes them a very good choice for locals to get a good breakfast. So I don't trek here for their offerings, but for the area they are a great choice.
