Seriously, where else have you ever seen breakfast quesadillas, catfish and grits, cheesecake cornbread waffles, smoked brisket hash, deep fried pork ribs, catfish, mushroom, and alligator tacos, and a Puerto Rican Rice Bowl all happily living in the same menu's neighborhood? And then, the icing on the cake was our server - a charismatic and uber-friendly gent named Bromwell who lights up the room with his personality. He made my list of the five greatest servers I interacted with this year. The restaurant's location is as unusual as its menu. You'll find it occupying the front space at the Suffield Commons Senior Living Apartments! Yup, as you walk through the restaurant and out their back door, you actually enter a common space for the housing complex. The restaurant itself has two dining rooms with booths, tables, and chairs and a bar with dining room chairs. That eclectic menu is chock full of breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices with Mexican and barbecue flairs. We were there for lunch and ordered two things. The first was an enormous Cheese Quesadilla ($9.35) with pork ($3.12) on a grilled flour tortilla served with sour cream and pico. It was a thing of beauty, cut into five thick wedges loaded with smoked pork. Our second item was a Caesar Salad (Half size for $6.23) with a side of smoked brisket ($9.36). I passed on the croutons and Caesar dressing in lieu of barbecue sauce as my dressing. I gotta tell you, the brisket was GREAT, a big serving of tender and juicy smoked beef cut into four slabs that must have totaled close to a half pound. We loved everything about Fire On the Mountain and agreed that we need to return for a proper breakfast when we are out that way or making a morning airport run. PRO TIP The restrooms are located in the housing complex's common space I described earlier/ Just exit the restaurant by the door in the rear dining room, and you're just about there. read more

Went out of my area to try a new place and happy that this spot was on my watch list. GPS threw me for a loop but once I parked and made my way inside I was positively greeted to an empty place, will not lie I was worried. Had myself some pancakes, scrambled eggs and potatoes and this hit the spot! Pancakes were huge filled with blueberries. Potatoes were crisp as I had asked. And when I order scrambled eggs with cheese this is exactly how I want them made, fluffy and mixed together. A group of 9 hungry bikers was warmly greeted and fed very well. The food was excellent. Eight of us had the Brisket Hash Benny and we all gave it a big thumbs up. The service was wonderful and attentive - all with a smile. Special shout out to Bramwell for going above and beyond. True I did a delivery of them overall I got a sense that if they not only do breakfast as well as I got likelihood that lunch/dinner will be in identical category. I had to do a couple of orders because first I thought was whole but however when I called they informed me I didn't exactly & so I put a second part for completion (wise play) and I know it's from CT (Suffield) but still a good spot. Food is really good & being I filled myself with three pancakes & have two sausages patties plus home fries for later plan anyway & my intuition informs me when you actually go there you're gonna to very well taken care of plus if the food is good likely will be the beverages like coffee, juice etc... & also serving those who come I suspect service/ambience is going to match. Most reviews are for breakfast, but the lunch is pretty good as well when I stopped by. BBQ chicken wings & brisket are almost as good as bear smoke house, although not quite. No body beat the bears on BBQ meat yet, but this place has more comfy seating & more relaxed feeling for lunch. Friendly service, a glass of hot water goes a long way when I didn't want cold soda or coffee. It's a better value as well, the two meat combo for $21 is similar to bears but comes with 3 sides including my fav. Brussels sprouts not available from bears. read more

I typically don't give bad reviews... but I feel I had to speak up. We chose this place based on all the great reviews. I can excuse the long wait (an hour to be seated - even though there were only 3 parties in front of us- and then another 20 minutes for our sodas and juices once we sat) because it was Father's Day. If our server wasn't so funny and entertaining, the whole experience would have been horrendous. Cute place but it was part of a housing complex so the signs to the entrance could have been better marked. I noticed that there was no odor of smoke or BBQ as we walked in which worried me- usually that's what entices me into a "smoke house." It was small with limited seating. I ordered a smoked chicken quesadilla with extra pico. I got zero pico. When I pointed it out to the server who brought the food out, she went to get it- only to return and let me know they had run out (we arrived at 11 am by the way). They should have given me the option for a different meal. My option was more sour cream or some pickled onions. No one noticed my untouched meal the whole time we sat there. Because no one ever checked on our table after the food arrived. My son's order of 3 proteins came out as only 2 - we thought that they would be delivering the 3rd but that didn't happen. He eats smoked food all the time and said this was some of the worst he's had. He said the chicken appeared to be frozen chicken strips, the brisket was fatty and the "smoked flavor" was very underwhelming. He never got the wings. And he felt the squash was more like pureed food and the Brussel sprouts tasted more like deep fried than smoked. My husband's pancakes were some of the most oily pancakes ever. If you are looking for light and fluffy- these are the opposite! My daughter was the only happy one - loving her breakfast quesadilla which was plain and bland- just the way she likes it. As mentioned, no one checked on us after the food arrived. No one ever offered to refill my husband's one cup of coffee. When my daughter went to the restroom, she spoke to our server about our dissatisfaction with the meal. He did come to the table to apologize and gave us a discount on the entire meal. He thought a manager was going to come to our table when it was realized that there was no pico and they didn't have the 3rd protein on my son's plate. But no manager ever came. In fact, we felt completely ignored. So- what we were hoping to be a "new find" is a "no go" for us. read more

The food was wonderful and the place very neat & clean. Awesome menu and a broad range of options. The smoked pork quesadillas was amazing. The side of cornbread was very small but delicious. I owned a deli and catering business and was I very impressed how good their food was. The eggs Benedict were awesome and served with delicious home fries. Coffee was good too. But , I have to say our waiter was nice and meant well but way over the top. He was new , so I'll cut him some slack . Someone needs to work with him . He has to recognize some signs when a table is trying to have a private, intimate conversation & not call out every few minutes " honey bunny do you need anything " most people don't want to be called a pet name over and over and over by a total stranger. In fact, most women find it very condescending. He must have called us that at least 50 times while we were trying to enjoy our breakfast. We finally took ours to go and finished it in the car so we could finish our conversation without the constant interruptions . In the parking lot we ran into another party who had also taken their food to go for the same reason. They were all visiting parents from out of town for the holidays and only had 2 hours to catch up . The 5 or 6 in their party were as irritated as we were by the non stop pet name calling and interruptions. The food was so good. It was our first time there. I had the taco salad which was not a traditional soggy taco salad but it was the best and freshest ingredients in a taco salad I have ever had and the shell was freshly made too. My family helped eat every last piece of the shell. All the meat was delicious. Between us we had pork, chicken and brisket. Sometimes at smokehouses you can end up paying a lot of money and getting big chunks of fatty pieces. This was not the case at Fire on the Mountain. All the meat was good quality and worth the price. I was traveling though the upper woods of Connecticut (which I think is Native American for "he who pays too much taxes and wears shirts of polo and pants of beige") when I stumbled on "Fire on the mountain smokehouse." The place is lively and fun, the ambience is country diner meets bed n breakfast meets Irish pub? The outside does need more signage. The food: Smokey like the bandit. Spicey like my women. And hearty ...like Paul Bunyan getting ready to chop down some living trees cause F those trees we need paper plates and napkins! I tried the Courry eggs Benedict with home fries, and a sausage egg cheese, as well as the meat lovers omelette. Each dish was large and filled with smoky bits of meats and egg. Very very satisfying.... like finding that extra $20 in an old winter coat pocket. This place was great and close to the airport, so it made a great pitsop on my way to Australia. read more

We came here with a fairly large group of 9 for breakfast. Such a cute area! (We live about 25 minutes away and it was recommended). The staff was very friendly and our party was seated quickly. Interesting menu options! My favorite was wings over pancakes ( someone ordered them - looked good) and bacon pancake strips. I went more traditional and ordered an omelette with bacon and American cheese. I was disappointed they didn't have Swiss. The omelette was over stuffed with bacon and cooked perfectly. Home fries were seasoned potato cubes and delicious. Rye toast was thicker than normal. Looking at other fishes (and 1 pic) and hearing reviews from my family, combined with amazing service for a large party and my excellent meal earned them 5 stars. No Swiss and all! Hubby and I stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Small place but we got a table. Staff was very pleasant. After getting water to start, we ordered the crispy pork and waffles and the mountain hash. Food took a while to come out (however there was a steady stream of door dash orders being picked up, which I can only guess slowed things down for seated customers). The pork had great flavor, but small portion for $15 (maybe 4oz of pork if I had to guess) and the plate doesn't come with anything else (for the price, a side or an egg over the top would've been nice and would add to the presentation of the dish). I also had to flag someone down for maple syrup and butter for the waffle. The mountain hash was a better value but still a bit pricey... the brisket hash and gravy taste great. I think the smokehouse addition is nice with breakfast but if I return, I'd order more carefully. read more

We happened to be driving through town and we stopped at this great breakfast spot. My husband ordered the Mountain Hash and the brisket in it was amazing. I had the Country Benedict, the cornbread waffle and the gravy were delicious. And I couldn't pass up these French toast with Nutella rolled in them. We celebrated my birthday at this fine establishment. I tried the cornbread waffle with crispy pulled pork on top and it was so delicious! We had a party with four children and five adults. They don't have a children's menu, but they do serve breakfast on Sunday until 2 PM so they got French toast and pancakes. The two smaller children could've easily shared stack of pancakes because they were so huge. Everyone enjoyed their food and the service was excellent. It did take a while for the food to come, but it was a busy time of day and we were a large party plus the food was super fresh. Had lunch there today, part of three. Server was there promptly and returned in a reasonable amount of time to get drink orders ... and we gave her the food order at the same time. Before we ordered, the server let us know that they were out of BBQ PORK & CHICKEN ... how can a Barbecue restaurant hope to be successful if you're out of these items at the beginning of a day of lunches? Unfortunately, it took over 20 minutes to deliver 2 sandwiches and one brisket plus one. The real plus here was that each lunch was tasty with a slightly different twist. Their prices are clearly on the higher end ... but could be dismissed if they actually had what's on the menu and the service was more attentive.. I suspect this is a better Breakfast place than it is (currently) a place for lunches or dinners. I hope the owners read this review and make some changes ... because I'd be willing to give it one more try. PS Ambiance is never a big thing with good or better BBQ places! read more

Pretty good for our first visit. The kids took their mom to FOTM for a Mother's Day breakfast, started around 12 noon, and it was a solid dining experience. My wife had the hash with two poached eggs, not bad, could've had a little bit larger hash portion but everything was tasty. I had a cheesecake waffle (one of their specials) and it was straight up dessert. Very tasty, and super rich, I only ate 1/2 of it because it was soooo much. They got the fruit piece of the order wrong, but it didn't really change anything for us other than the lack of attention....party foul, but no harm done.
