Real barbeque where they serve the meat(s) with the sauce on the side, in most cases it's not even needed IMO, THAT'S what true Q is. Tucked away on a quiet corner on Ellington Road you might even miss it but its the "Express" location so it's not very large. They have a small area where you order and a kitchen though I don't think they actually cook most or any of the food here. That being said they may run out of popular items like burnt ends so if you're really craving something in particular you may want to call and confirm they still have it, otherwise you'll have to drive to the Windsor Lock location. They have some picnic tables outside if you'd like to 'dine in' but this location does mostly takeout. From the Texas sausage to the pulled pork, brisket, burnt ends and chicken I've never had a bad meal here. The sides are equally good and they even have baked potatoes in addition to the usual mac and cheese, cole slaw and beans you'd expect. Friendly and quick service, tasty meats and sides, what's not to love? Five Stars!

I'm not sure if it was a shift change or just timing, but even though the restaurant wasn't very busy, it felt like we were left a bit on the side for a while. Nothing major, just something noticeable. Also, while the food is creative and well made, some items felt a bit pricey for the portion size (for example, a meatball serving), so value may depend on what you order. That said, it definitely wouldn't stop me from coming back. Good food, good beer selection, and overall a solid spot.

I would bring everyone there. When they opened the new location in Windsor , it was still great. It was a birthday outing type of thing. I went again last week, which was likely my final time. For the past few years, I've been giving it a pass... growing pains, maybe? But the food is not what it was. The succulent, juicy brisket that I used to dream of has been dry and cold for the last year or so (probably 3 or 4 visits). The burnt ends, which used to be as addictive, are now no longer made from brisket...but what seems to be cubed chuck...again, dry. Texas sausage and pulled pork are still ok, as are the sides. On top of that, they are always short staffed, and the staff that they do have is not helpful...not friendly.. Just a big NOT anymore. I haven't been to the Hartford or New Haven locations recently, but as far as Windsor is concerned, it will not be going back anytime soon. I don't mind paying the premium prices for quality food and service, but you are no longer premium. Please figure this out. My favorite place no longer exists.. and I really want it to return to the quality of the past.

Tried again, not bad but not great…read more It's been a while since I tried this place. Decided to come by during a random weekend lunch to give their food another try. Server was friendly and very casual. I asked for her recommendation and was told their grilled chicken sandwich was pretty good. Strange given they use to be really proud in their bbq, but trusted the server and got the west coast chicken sandwich and swapped the bun for a lettuce wrap. Also got the tumbleweeds with a side of spicy aoli to dip in. The food came out after a little bit of a wait, but not too long. Took pics and dug in. The tumbleweeds were cooked well but really lacked in any flavor beyond crispy breading. It really needed a dipping sauce to give it any real flavor. The spicy aoli had a little zip to it and helped though. The chicken was seasoned well but overcooked. The Swiss cheese didn't really add much so I scraped it off. Bacon wasn't crispy, was welded to the Swiss cheese so I just scraped it off with the cheese. The heirloom tomatoes and pickled red onions were very good. Lightly salted and sweet tomatoes and briny sweet onions really complimented the chicken and were welcome additions. Avocado was okay, fresh and presented well. The food wasn't bad, but it did have some stumbles. It's a great venue space, one of the few country bars in the state and is decked out well to be the primo spot for county. It's not a great restaurant, but it's serviceable food and a nice staff. If it can really sell the events and nail those, then the food can be simpler and still do well. For now though, it's okay.

We'll stick with just drinks going forward.

One thing I love about J Rego's is the quality of their menu; meals are always unique and truly make J Rego's stand FAR apart from other food spots in this part of CT. Yes, they offer the very best of your favorite restaurant classics, but they also add high-end, high-quality options that you cannot find anywhere else in the area. They do weekly specials (check their Instagram or call!) that always blow my mind. I literally stalk their social media each week waiting for their new options! Having J Rego's so close to home is a hazard for my self control!! And the Espresso Martinis?! Don't get me started! Delicious, high-class, and absolutely addicting. Here is my reasons behind a 4* star review... 1. It's clean and nice inside. I like the fact that it even has an old Simpsons arcade game and looks like you can play table games in there as well. 2. The owner was a nice dude and he makes everything fresh. He was waiting tables and cooking. He takes pride in what he does and I appreciate that. 3. They offer vegetarian options which for me, is always a reason I will try a place. I had both vegetarian tacos and they were pretty tasty (the broccoli one wins for me! Tofu one pretty good too tho) BROCCO TACO Fire-roasted broccoli, garlic black bean purée, chipotle tomato jelly, micro greens, and toasted sesame seeds. $7 and THAI TOFU TACO Crispy tofu, homemade peanut sauce, "trimchi," toasted sesame seeds and scallions.* $7 4. (BATATAS BRAVAS Hand-cut, twice-fried garlic cilantro french fries. Served with kimchi ketchup and smack sauce) $9. The fries were good but not my favorite. They a little too greasy, I liked the garlic, it's very garlicky but for me I like extra garlic. It came with the tiniest dipping sauce, which i wish there was more of... 5. My fiancé got a quesadilla (RAJAS QUESADILLA Strips of creamy peppers and onions grilled with our 7-cheese blend in a 12" flour tortilla, topped with cotija cheese. Served with sour crema and salsa $11) which was pretty good but small for the price. We both love quesadillas and I would eat that again. 6. Overall I liked No coast. It was a little too pricey for me which is what will keep me from visiting frequently. $14 for 2 small tacos that were gone in very literally 2 bites, I was actually still hungry when I left. But prices are high everywhere and running a restaurant isn't cheap. If it was 3 tacos for $14 it would be easier to want to visit again. For almost $50 it was just a little too much for me. Either way, No coast is cooking fresh, and trying hard. It's worth it to give them a try.

Tried again, not bad…read more Been a while since my last review, so I decided to give them another try with tempered expectations. Server was very nice but very busy. Had to handle the entire restaurant on a Saturday afternoon by herself. Lead to some longer wait times, so make sure to have some time to spend. We got the empanada special, wings, some fries, and a couple of tacos to try. Food came out after a bit of a delay. Sat down and dug in. Best bite would be the fries. A very garlic forward fries with a weaker ketchup and creamy sauce called their "slam" sauce. I prefer double fried for a crispier fry texture, but they were fresh and I suspect brined to preserve look and give it a little crisp. Next was the wings, brined and smoked, the sauce was a bbq with a surprising amount of spice. Larger wings were cooked perfectly and juicy, smaller wings were a little dry. Avocado creama was nice, helped with the smaller wings and to take the edge off the heat. Empanadas were as promised. Small pieces of unseasoned steak and cheese. Peppers were too large, lead to some empanadas with just pepper and cheese. As a jalepeno popper empanadas it would be good, not so much as a steak and cheese. Dough was crispy but had a bit of chew. The beer queso had a lot of hops flavor, which overpowered anything dunked into it. Probably delicious after a few beers. The tacos were okay. The shrimp taco was the better of the two, shrimp were cooked well and the flavor profile was very light. With fried shrimp and remoulade you would expect heavier flavors, but it was actually quite light. The jerked chicken taco, chicken was cooked well, it had a strong jerk flavor with no spice nor heat, and the main flavors you got were pineapple and beans. Not the best taco. Coming in with the expectation of a restaurant that's not a taqueria and more a bar bites location, it's pretty good. The problem being that it is a taqueria, and those bites are the weakest bites they produce. Given the location, you'll be hard pressed to find a good taco place around. Go in expecting okay tacos, or pretty decent pub grub, and you'll be okay
