It's an old truck, that has been refurbished, has a cool history and has been in business as a red hot dog truck for over 50 years. Maggie's has hot dogs, kielbasa and chili. They also have drinks, chips and cookies. Maggie's uses Mucke's natural casing dogs, which is definitely not something that most CT places use. Maggie's does not have any specialty hot dogs per se, but they do have their own chili and some other standard toppings to choose from. I ordered a hot dog with chili and mustard. I haven't had a Mucke's in a while. It seemed like it was probably steamed. Good flavor. Good snap. The chili sauce was meaty and tasty. Definitely above average for CT. The mustard was good too. I would definitely recommend Maggie's if you're in the area and want a hot dog or chili to go. 4.5 Stars

Girlfriend was very interested in the tacos, so we opt for a trio of their spicy tacos. Service was quick and we found a seat to dig in. Overall, the chicken was tasty but the rest was okay. The sauce was kind of like franks red hot but a bit tangier but a little milder. It's a solid sauce, but I usually prefer a little more heat. The taco shells were generic, out of a bag tortillas. Nothing special of note there, just plain flour tortillas. they didn't bulk out the tacos with lots of extra slaw, but the chicken portion was very small for the size of tortilla they used. In the future, they should look at street taco tortillas. they're a bit smaller, but would make the chicken look like a significantly larger portion. Then if they use a seasoned crispy batter then dunk the tenders in the sauce then it would be a very awesome bite. for what we got, it was good but not great. They need to make little tweaks to get them to great, but it's easy enough to do. I hope to see some quality improvements going forward, but for now they are a solid choice if you're in the mood for unhealthy chicken.

I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars

They're Back and better than ever…read more One of my favorite food trucks in Hartford is back at Bushnell Park. The lines are long but the Thai food is still so good and a relative bargain for the quality. I am a big fan of the spicy Chicken chock full of chicken and vegetables! As I like spicy food I went for the basil fried rice. There are three stars on its side and that means it is the spiciest thing their menu. I eat real spicy food. To my surprise the fried rice was really spicy with a ton of flavors. The basil leaves on the rice explodes in mouth with flavors. It was spicy hot as well as temperature hot. I was sweating when I was eating it. She offered to make it more spicy if I want. I took the right decision to not go for it.

We were the only customers there! I had seen on-line that three food trucks would be present, but there were just two -The Gulla Grille (Brazilian) and Taste of Home (Puerto Rican). Aunties Pasta (Italian) wasn't there. The designers of Westside really need to get a lot of credit for the beautiful job they did in salvaging this forlorn corner of Hartford. The dozens of wood tables and benches were made from old recycled industrial spools, and they are really amazing. There are corn hole boards, beer pong table, Giant Jenga, Connect Four, a movie screen, a music stage, and a bar spread throughout the property so there's a ton of things to do there. I had a kebab plate from Gulla and my wife had a cheeseburger from Taste of Home. She was given one of those buzzing gizmos to tell her when her food was ready. I knew my lunch was ready when the guy flagged me down like he was hailing a cab. There's a certain establishment kitty "corner" to the Dogger, a "stone's" throw away, shall we say, that shall go nameless, which no matter how much I want to like it, I just can't get past the crappy bread. That's why I mention the bread at the Dogger: it's really good. I suppose my one grouse is they don't carry coleslaw for the pulled pork, but that's not for a lack of trying. For some reason, you philistines who inhabit the Connecticut River Valley don't top your pulled pork with coleslaw (really people?) so Mrs. Dogger got tired of throwing it away. Apparently I was the only one who kept asking for it. It was good coleslaw, people! Ah, well, there's always got to be one little niggle; nothing's perfect. Do yourself a favor, get over your thing about trucks and head to the Dogger.
