First Timer to Thomas' Smokey Pit Stop BBQ in Manchester, CT yesterday. I did the 2 plate meat w/ one side. Went with the Ribs & Brisket and collards. Place is smallish, but there's a counter with a few stools if you want to eat inside. Service was very friendly & efficient. Brisket was good -- tender and moist. Nice bark too. Ribs had a smokey flavor, I liked the rub they used. But a few were borderline tough. Collards were excellent. Overall, this is decent "northern Q", I would definitely come back again if I'm in the area. Thomas' Smokey Pit Stop BBQ is a solid 4 Star rating, IMO, and that's coming from a guy who consumed a lot of Q in northern Alabama when he lived down there.

Some good, some needs help. I want to be fair here about the good and the not so much. I love the idea of a cute, quick little take out spot to pick up BBQ on the way home from work. Great business model. The brisket was really good. Tender, juicy and well seasoned. Cornbread was quite good and moist while holding together well. Collard greens, 8/10. The ribs and the chicken need serious help though. The ribs were done enough to be safe to eat but barely. Very chewy. Needs more heat for longer. They don't need to be falling off the bone, but every bite should be a good one, and these weren't. I like mine brought up to 203-205 but these probably never saw north of 175. The chicken was way over done. Which is hard to do on drums and thighs! Dry and bland. Not just un-spicy for 'jerk' chicken, very little seasoning at all. I thick with more practice, and better quality control on the meats, this place could be really good. And the fixes that are needed are easy to implement.

I keep a running mental list of nearby places that have high Yelp ratings, so I can visit when the opportunity arises. When I recently had an errand in Manchester, I remembered that @thomassmokeypitstop had a 4.6 overall rating and over a 100 reviews. Thomas's specializes in BBQ and Soul Food, and my family and I sampled the pulled pork, lean brisket, Mac, Collards, Yams, corn bread and potato salads. We liked everything, and highlights for me included the classic stretchy cheesy Mac, the brisket with the great bark, the pulled pork and the potato salad with the mustard and pickle flavor. If you're near Manchester, you should definitely check out @thomassmokeypitstop . They have some limited seating, but they're probably more of a takeout spot. They also have a food truck and cater. 4.25 Stars

Now the place so people least know will do catering & overall for BBQ this one is up there without a shadow of a doubt in my mind because a place I go to is celebrating a second anniversary & for what I had my stuff was filling (unknowingly I wasn't aware of it so if I had maybe I would've skipped supper) & you get good pulled pork, Andouille sausage (oh yeah that's hot), green beans & cornbread. I suspect if this is just that element I might want to investigate the dining establishment.

Fantastic food, reasonable prices, wonderful service, clean establishment. Easy in and out every time I pick up my to go order. Make sure to grab a slice of dessert when you go, it's always a hit.

I have been in the mood for BBQ for weeks now so when I finally decided to get some I wanted to try and support a local business. Everyone is familiar with Bears so I hopped on yelp to find a different place up to 20 min from me and Thomas' popped up with glowing reviews. They offered online orders so I went for it. As others have mentioned, it is strictly take out. The shop is small but they had great music playing and everyone behind the counter seemed to be in a great mood. My food was ready and waiting. At first I thought portions were small but everything was just packed in really tight - this was a lot of food! The star of the show was definitely the brisket. Great smoky flavor, super tender, and not too much fat. Unfortunately the sides left me disappointed. The beans tasted like all ketchup. Not the rich and savory flavor I was expecting. The Mac & cheese seemed like it may have been sitting for a while. Didn't taste very fresh. Wasn't the worst I've had but definitely wasn't the best. The cornbread was ok but again, I have had better. Overall, I would consider returning to try some of the other meats they offer but I wouldn't order any of these sides in the future. Pricing also seemed fair compared to other BBQ places I have visited.

"When it comes to southern cookin' They know what it's all about They got some barbecue ribs and red beans and rice Make your tongue snap your eyeballs out" (Charlie Daniels) Man oh man oh man, did we have a fantastic experience at Thomas' Smokey Pit Stop! I really like ribs, but haven't had them in a very long time. Sometimes they are dry and overcooked. Not here. The ribs I had yesterday were among the very best I ever had. We ordered a one meat platter of pulled pork, mac and cheese and corn bread for $12 and a two meat platter of ribs, BBQ chicken, green beans and slaw for $18.25 plus a $2 rib upcharge. We loved every single bite of every dish. My ribs were amazing -tender and juicy and just perfect. And the boring old green beans were stellar too - must have been the smoked turkey they're cooked with. The BBQ was a drumstick and thigh cooked in a fantastic BBQ glaze. For extra measure, all dishes included a container of extra BBQ sauce. My wife's pulled pork platter looked fantastic and let me tell ya, there was a ton of pulled pork in her container. For dessert we split a delicious slice of coconut pound cake ($4). The food, the service, the pricing were all excellent.

Food is amazing! Move over Bears! Thomas' BBQ is so good! The service is super friendly as well. My bf and I had platters of the Jerk chicken, bbq pulled pork, and sliced brisket. The sides were also very good!

Great food and service. I got the 2 meat platter with the smoked sausage, sliced brisket, green beans and cornbread. Mother got the brisket sandwich with coleslaw and yams. Everything was full of flavor and the cornbread was not dry. This is the first cornbread I've come across in a while where it didn't instantly suck the moisture out of my mouth. Good job! Before we left, we got some takeout for my stepdad and a slice of coconut cake and strawberry cake. Yum! I'll be returning with my father at a later date.

They have some picnic tables outside if you'd like to 'dine in' but this location does mostly takeout. From the Texas sausage to the pulled pork, brisket, burnt ends and chicken I've never had a bad meal here. The sides are equally good and they even have baked potatoes in addition to the usual mac and cheese, cole slaw and beans you'd expect. This place is HUGE and has so many different vibes all in one building, which I absolutely love. The drink selection is one of my favorite parts. They have so many beers on tap, plus cider flights, sour flights, beer flights -- all different types of flights if you're like me and enjoy trying a little bit of everything. And if beer isn't your thing, they have cocktails too, so everyone in your group can find something they like. The food is just as impressive. The Philly cheesesteak egg rolls are AMAZING -- crispy, flavorful, and honestly one of the main reasons I keep coming back. The burgers are delicious, and the desserts? Oh my goodness. The deep-fried Oreos are next-level. Atmosphere is where Elicit really stands out. There's the big open beer hall feel inside, but also different sections depending on what kind of night you're looking for. It can be chill and casual earlier in the evening, then turn into more of a going-out/club vibe later on. There's a cocktail bar upstairs, and as the night goes on the energy really shifts. In the summer they have bands (sometimes outside), a full outdoor bar, a fireplace, two inside bars, a little quieter lounge area with couches, and even a small game room. Bathrooms upstairs and downstairs make it convenient, and you can rent rooms for private parties too. I also like how the food ordering works -- they give you a pager and you pick up your food when it's ready. Tables are first come, first serve though, so definitely save your spot because you can lose your seat if you're not careful, especially on busy nights. It does get packed on weekends, so I recommend getting there early if you want a good table for your group. But overall, it's one of my go-to spots in Manchester when I want good drinks, great food, and a fun atmosphere. Definitely a place I'll keep going back to -- and those Philly cheesesteak egg rolls will always bring me back.

Always would swing by around the time it would be closed, so today I made a special trek to give this place a try. The place was quiet, a few people dining in. Took about a good 5 minutes to be seated, a single waitress manning the entire front of house. I didn't look at the menu beforehand, so I didn't know what to expect. As it turns out, it's a burger joint. Well, more accurately a bar with bar bites that just so happen to be burgers and wraps. I opted to go for their burger flight, but was informed they were out of chicken. so I swapped out the chicken for another burger patty. Also got some sweet potato waffle fries, because why not? Food took about 20 minutes to get, which is a long time to wait for appetizers. but the food came out eventually and I got my pictures and dug in. The negatives first - The waffle fries were cold on delivery. They were made in advance and lost all their heat by the time the burgers finished up. Flavor-wise, not bad. the honey mustard dipping sauce was appreciated. Need a little bit more spicy zip though, was a tad too sweet. I wasn't a fan of the cheese choice, was a little too waxy for my taste, could've not been warmed up enough, hard to tell. also the bottoms of the buns were lightly toasted but the tops were not and they were also cold to the touch. However, the rest of the meal was actually very good. The burgers were seasoned and hand ground beef. they had a lot of maple bacon pieces on them and the pretzel bun was soft and spongy with a little crisp on the inside. the pulled pork slider was pretty good as well. the combo of tender, sauce drenched pork with cool, creamy, and sweet slaw lead to a very solid bite. And that to me is the crux of the matter. They do good food but they cut corners. some corners are fine to cut, and they know how to prioritize what matters most in a dish. The slow service was a bummer, and if they executed just a little better then this would be a nice place to go to watch a game and get some bites. There were other gripes as well. Their happy hour menu doesn't match their main menu, and you can order those items even if it isn't happy hour at a more expensive price. Nowhere is that mentioned, and some of those items would be awesome to have normally. I mean, fresh cut and fried chips with buffalo chicken dip? Yes please! They do fresh chips, they can easily put together a nacho platter. They offer chicken tacos, but they could offer beef tacos. The burger flight should have fries, with the option to upgrade them to other sides or flavors. Fries are cheap, and I don't know many people that would turn down a well done disco fry if given the option. Granted, there's not many real "casual bar" areas in that stretch of town. But there is a brewery across the way, and I suspect that they are actually owned by the same cooks. so it's effectively competing against yourself, and that's not a great idea. For those looking for solid bar bites, this place will do well enough. They can be a tad slow, but the food is pretty good. It's a small casual bar to relax at, and the food's pretty decent

I have known for a while that this place decided to take the shoes of the former shady glenn, with decent reviews and a desire to try out new things, I made the trek to this location to give it a try. It's not much of a looker. The area around it is worn down, parking spots are barely lined and the lights in the parking lot are in various states of function. There's some signs indicating that they are open, but the immediate curb appeal is a little limited. The inside is pretty nice. They did a good job in making the space feel more open and inviting compared to the cramped space that shady glenn had. The single chef in his reds was hastily plugging away at his dishes, cooking feverously while also trying to man the front of the shop. Eventually he was able to go to our table and drop off a menu along with a basked of freshly buttered popcorn to munch on. A welcome treat, which was good but a little messy. the popcorn was popped plain and seasoned afterwards, which makes for a slightly soggier bite. Eventually his backup staff came in, a single lady who was suppose to be holding down the drinks and front of house. She comes over and we order. I opt for the pork cutlet and mac n cheese, while the girlfriend opted for the pasta with meat sauce. We then proceed to watch the chef rapidly go from back to front, getting everything prepped and cooked up while we watched. The chef really needs a very close-by fridge or cooler. the amount of running back and forth was tiring to watch. I am very glad that he was working hard for his guests, but there are easier ways. It also took our food a good 30 minutes to come up because we literally watched him make it. By the time he's done, we get two pretty decent sized plates of food. The pasta was good, the meat sauce was very tasty. the beef and pork were very tender and the sauce was not overpowering but ever present. The mac and cheese was a little gritty, I suspect the sauce was starting to separate by the time things got served up. The pork cutlet was fresh and fried well. it needed a little more seasoning and it needed to be a little better trimmed. but it was a good cut. The carrot and cranberry slaw was fresh, sweet, and tart. It was way too big of a portion though. a quarter of that would've been more acceptable. The price was incredibly affordable, the two plates coming out to about 24 bucks. I felt a little bad to get such good quality for so cheap. I give this place a 4 because although the price is great, the service is good, and the quality is good, it's not much of a looker, it took a while for food to actually come out, and there was some execution errors. What I would like to see happen here is that the chef features a few different dishes each night, but that's all he serves. No extensive menu, just a few basic options that one can select. As dishes gain in popularity, he can feature those dishes and build out his menu that way. Also by keeping his menu very light, it will help keep the food costs down since he won't have a lot of overhead. It will also build that reoccurring business by encouraging repeat business to try the "new thing". That combined with a strong social media presence and a constant stream of "Now serving" posts, they would be able to make themselves a strong dining option for the area. For now, they are worth a try if you're in the area. The food's good, the staff is nice, and the ambiance is not bad inside. It's sparse, but in time I would imagine this place will shine bright
