Basic breakfast fare, pricy for the quality Came here because I've been to way too many breakfast spots and I wanted to cover the stragglers in the area. I came to this place and it was not very busy. I took a seat and sever brought over a really nice menu. Suspect they just renovated which is good. Spying creton on the menu, was hoping for other Canadian fare. But alas, no other items besides their maple syrup. The server was kind and answered all my questions. They checked in for a coffee refill once, but did not ask how my food came out. I opt for my standard measure: French toast with real maple syrup. I opt for the apples warmed up, and no ice cream sadly. Food comes out quick and actually pretty nice looking. Took pics and dug in. I have certain things I look for when it comes to French toast, this place unfortunately missed all the marks. Too fresh of bread with too light of a soak, no cinnamon flavor and a light toast. Cooked on a flattop that had onions on it, leaving the faint hint of onion funk on the French toast. The apples were very tasty though, and the maple syrup was real and a golden syrup. Which was not potent enough to mask the off flavors, but was a nice light maple. A standard cup of diner Joe, the French toast with add ons came out to just shy of 18. If properly executed it could justify that price point, but from what I got it was lacking. I can see this being a perfectly fine basic breakfast spot, but it's a bit pricy for what you get. If you do decide to give this place a try, go for basic breakfast fare, stick to the savory and watch for the add-ons read more

I live in town and have never been here yet so many people tell me to try it - so we did! Sunday morning for breakfast and we were seated right away and service was good throughout- even though many other reviews have had a different experience. We were waited on quickly and she checked in often - good deal! We had coffee and each ordered a bfast combo, though different ones. Everything was just "ok". Nothing was great and nothing was horrible, although I wish the sausage links had been cooked more. My biggest problem was that everything was served swarm, at best and I like hot food to be hot! Cold scrambled eggs and cold pancakes - booo! Also, $36 with tax and tip - not cheap. I could have gone 2 stars but with good, friendly service and decent food I went middle of the road. I love this place! Been coming here for years, whenever I'm visiting from out of town I always make it a point to stop and eat here. The food is always great, fresh and homemade, their homemade corn chowder is awesome. The waitresses are always friendly and helpful and there's plenty of parking. read more

First time eating here. My grandson and I were going to see Santa at the old one room school house, and we were very early, so we decided to go get breakfast. Emeralds is right up the road, so we figured that's where we would go. Place was a little bit busy, nothing crazy, 5 or 6 girls on the floor. The entry sign said seat yourself, so we did. Someone came within a minute to clean the table and put down placemats and napkins, and leave us menus. Ordered basic breakfast, scrambled eggs, toast, home fries, and bacon for my grandson and eggs over very light, toast, home fries, and sausage for me. Breakfast came within 15 minutes, but we had to wait to eat to flag someone down for silverware. My grandsons breakfast was perfect. Mine, you could have propped up furniture with my eggs, sent it back, and told them never mind bringing a new one as we didn't have time to wait and by just replacing the eggs, everything else would be cold and that would not be enjoyable. Waitress came back about 3 minutes later with the same plate with fresh eggs on it and half my cold toast and luke-warm fries and sausage. I told her thanks, but no thanks. I didn't take any pictures today as I was trying to take it all in. Once I stepped into this place, its almost a time shift of a friendly, old diner. It gives you all the older vibes. This is the place that you go to every weekend and they know your names. If you want a simple breakfast, this place is great for that. Nothing fancy here. Simple food, tastes like you would make it at home. Price point wise, a little more costly than I think, should be for this small, hidden spot. They give you big portions and you get served quickly. A solid 5. Great find near my hotel. The 3 egg veggie omelette is chock full of fresh vegetables and cheese. Plenty of leftovers for another breakfast at work. The side of bacon was totally worth it. Solid little old school breakfast spot in South Windsor. A very large space, with lots of open tables, a big pot of coffee going around and a ton of regulars. Definitely the kind of place that Hank the electrician has been coming to for 20 years and placing the same exact order every one of those days. A reasonable selection of breakfast items at a reasonable price. Everything was very tasty, and most importantly the pancakes were fluffy. The main detractor was the service - maybe they saw us as three annoying millennials that weren't going to tip well - we were downright neglected. No one came over to us for a good 15 minutes after we sat down, it took something like 25 minutes for us to get our food after ordering, and we couldn't flag down anyone to bring us the check. A few of my teammates and I came to Emerald's for a quick bite to eat last Sunday morning around 9:15. We were seated immediately, which was nice. We asked for coffee and water, and it took about 10 minutes for our drinks to come, then another 10 minutes to place our order. It wasn't dead in there, nor was it super busy. Our food came out relatively quickly and it was "meh". I ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, and home fries, but my eggs came out significantly later than everyone else's omletes, but I had my other food, so I wasn't too upset. Once we were finished, we waited another 10 or so minutes for the check. Overall, there was a lot of waiting for things and the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either, plus there weren't any special or standout menu items. Emerald's Eatery offers traditional American breakfast fare, but welcomes modifications to menu items. I order the veggie omelet without the eggs and cheese. Ha, ha, ha, I know it's not an omelette but it is healthy and so delicious! The veggies include spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms and sometimes zucchini. They are fresh, firm and tasty, never overcooked or greasy. Also, their coffee is so smooth I enjoy it black with no sugar. French toast wasn't warm enough to melt the butter ( on table not served from fridge). No one mentioned the specials that we saw on our way out, would have ordered them had we seen them. French toast was regular white bread french toast no cinnamon. All food tasted like it was made with the cheapest low quality ingredients they could get, if you are hungry and do not feel like making breakfast the food is edible but I will not be back here. read more

We've eaten there several times. The food has been good. Not sure if we will go back in the future though based on a few things. 1. The 1st time my bacon wasn't cooked enough. They took the bacon off my plate, cooked it some more, and returned it to my plate. (I believe that is against food regulations). 2. Today the place was pretty quiet. There was one booth open, but lots of tables. We requested a booth for the 3 of us, but they made us wait because they wanted to reserve the 1 available booth for 5 people, even though there was plenty of available table space to accommodate that size party should they come in. They did finally seat us in that booth. 3. At another table a customer commented that is was cold. The waitress told her she should run around waiting tables for awhile and that she would warm right up. In summary, the food is good. Service not so much. read more

First off..its colorful and very roomy inside. secondly..the food is darn good..and thirdly our server..Sonia...added a great deal to our overall enjoyment. I had a way above average sausage and cheese omelet. delicious American cheese...and perfectly done rye toast.
