I live in town and have never been here yet so many people tell me to try it - so we did! Sunday morning for breakfast and we were seated right away and service was good throughout- even though many other reviews have had a different experience. We were waited on quickly and she checked in often - good deal! We had coffee and each ordered a bfast combo, though different ones. Everything was just "ok". Nothing was great and nothing was horrible, although I wish the sausage links had been cooked more. My biggest problem was that everything was served swarm, at best and I like hot food to be hot! Cold scrambled eggs and cold pancakes - booo! Also, $36 with tax and tip - not cheap. I could have gone 2 stars but with good, friendly service and decent food I went middle of the road. Certainly not horrible but nothing to get excited about either. Not sure what everyone loves about this place!

Emeralds is a decent local breakfast and lunch spot. If you dont feel like waiting and hour in line for breakfast this is the place for you. Food is average with nothing I didnt like or nothing I thought was the greatest. I have only been here once for breakfast so cant say to much but I will give it another try sometime.

Perfectly fine quick breakfast spot…read more Came here on the fly, looking for new breakfast spots and found this one on my feed. The parking situation is a little weird, there's some spots in front or by the side, but they are not really marked well. But there's a lot of spaces for the actual dining space. The inside is simple but clean, lots of seats for the space and a reasonable display for their pastries and donuts. The menu is simple and the options are low. It's very much designed to be a quick breakfast spot. I opted for one of their donuts and a latte, with a French toast platter. Food came out quickly, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was okay. The donut was large, cakey but freshly made. The strawberry frosting was a little heavy on the extract which gave a chemically taste to the frosting, but it wasn't off putting just noticeable. The French toast was slightly undercooked, but I do enjoy custardity bites so it was good enough. The eggs were also underdone, but I just ignored those. The turkey bacon was crisp and the home fries were seasoned very well. Unlike other home fries I have had, these ones actually had flavor. As a breakfast spot, it does well enough for the local crowd. When done properly, the food put out at this location can be good if not great. I'm fairly confident if I made them aware of my issues, they would resolve them without fail. If you need a quick breakfast and happen to be in east hartford near the police station, his place works for that quick meal. It isn't fancy, but it's basic food done right.

The Cosmic Omelet is a breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant that opened in Manchester,…read moreConnecticut in October 2003. It was founded by Tracy Devine. When she purchased the small restaurant space in Manchester, it was already an existing restaurant called "The Smoking Cafe". Just before the purchase, the Connecticut General Assembly had passed a smoking for restaurants, which was going to go into effect soon. Many of the regular customers were smokers, but Devine soon won them over with her menu of "out of this world" food. The new business was dubbed "The Cosmic Omelet" and by 2005, a beautiful cosmic-themed mural had been painted on the walls of the restaurant. Although the menu also features lunch items, it is the breakfast dishes that keep people coming back. Many of the dishes are named after and designed by staff or long standing customers. If you spot the word "cosmic" anywhere in the menu, it is code for "made with cream cheese". My family and I had brunch at the Cosmic Omelet over St. Patrick's Day weekend. I was first introduced to the place by one of my best friends who grew up in Manchester, and I've been coming back ever since. This was the first visit for my two sons. There was a little bit of a wait for a table, but there's plenty to do to pass the time. If customers follow the "yellow brick road" painted on the floor, it will lead you to a small arcade as well as a funky art gallery space. We all had a fun time exploring until our table was ready. They had a lot of delicious St. Patrick's Day themed specials during our visit. I had the "Sheep Go To Heaven" (shepherd's pie omelet w/ ground beef, corn, mashed potatoes, cheddar & Guinness gravy), my wife had the "Fiesta Omelet" (sausage, onions, peppers, cheddar, side of salsa & sour cream), our sons shared the "Sweet Cream (Green) Pancakes", and we also ordered sides of "Hashbrowns" and "Corned Beef Hash" for the table. As usual, everything was fantastic! The omelets were chock full of delicious ingredients, the pancakes were perfectly fluffy, and the home fries were out of this world! We plan on returning to the Cosmic Omelet again and again!

The look of the place is still a mix of quirky diner and casual neighborhood spot, but over the years they have expanded quite a bit into neighboring spaces. It is noticeably larger than it used to be many years ago, but it still feels like the same locally-owned, friendly, affordable, quirky, casual, bustling place with fun decor that it has always been. The food is certainly also a big reason people keep coming back. If you have never been, you will quickly notice that some of the omelets are creative and a little unusual. A few include things like cream cheese, which might sound odd at first but often works surprisingly well. Of course they also have plenty of classic breakfast options if you want something more traditional. In general the food has been consistently good. The place can get busy, especially during peak breakfast hours, which says a lot about how popular it still is with regulars. Once you are seated though, the service tends to move along quickly and the staff are friendly in that slightly quirky way that fits the personality of the place. Overall Cosmic Omelet is still one of the better breakfast spots in the area. Good food, lots of personality, and clearly a place that has built a strong following over the years. Although I have moved much further away since my 2009 review, I will still stop in when I am back in the area.

I'd avoided it ever since. My husband tried The Gathering (which has been around since 2010 according to the owner) a few weeks ago, and told me we had to go back - the restaurant is clean & welcoming. And serves a good breakfast. Decent coffee. Very good service. All at a very reasonable cost. I had a cheese omelette, 3 eggs, lots of cheese, served with toast & very good potatoes. My husband had his new favorite - breakfast sandwich with 2 eggs on a Portuguese roll. Served with potatoes (he substituted corned beef hash for an up charge this time). I think the Hash is the usual canned, however, it was grilled nice & crispy. Note that there is a senior citizen discount of 10% on Wednesdays. Nice. The Gathering is only open for breakfast (open until 1:00). We will be back for sure!

Despite that, everyone was friendly and trying their best. The food, however, was absolutely delicious! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful and exceeded our expectations. Greasy spoon diner still learning the ropes…read more Angry egg is back open, under new ownership and with a revamped decor. Staff was polite but green. Nice but not overly friendly. Owner was working hard, doing prep items while the rest of the staff remained idle. Asked my server what most people order, and was told either the breakfast platter or the cali sammich. Decided on the sandwich, to get a good sense of how they worked. Food came out after a short wait. Took pics and dug in. Egg was cooked fine, bread lightly toasted, avocado was on the bottom of the sandwich. Also sandwich was very much an omelette in between two pieces of bread. There was also omission of two ingredients (peppers and bacon), the onions were cooked not caramelized, and there was a lot of mozzarella for a cali themed breakfast dish. A lot of what was not great is easy to contribute to confusion. Home fries with a sandwich limits a dish to a dine-in experience which isn't ideal for the grab and go diner. Sandwich composition dictates flavor intensity on bite, and presentation matters more for dine in than to go. Missing ingredients, that's a slip of the kitchen and the servers. It's how the restaurant reacts and pivot that determines how they will fare. The owner was receptive of feedback, and talked to his staff on each issue brought up. It seems like the owner is heavily invested in the success of his spot but is not quite ready to hand reins over to his staff. There will need to be that transition, there's just too many hats to wear as an owner to handle the busy work as well. For those looking for a nice spot to have some eggs n bacon, this spot works. It's not glamorous eats, but it's functional and prepped well enough. I will have to try them again once they figure out their rhythm, but right now they are okay.
