Great place and price is right too! One of the meals we got was the crab cake benedict and amazing only starts to describe it. The crab cake itself was very large and cooked perfectly, a little bit larger than the egg was, which was great but no expected for the price. The crab cake had a wonderful flavor and you could tell it really was homemade. The egg was good perfectly with a smooth and creamy hollandaise sauce on top. The dish finished off with some really good potatoes too. The only down was the fruit cup, the fruit was very fresh and just right for ripe but a little pricy for the size dish. Overall a great experience and looking forward to going back when we are in the area again. read more

Was looking for breakfast and saw they had biscuits and gravy that others had rated 5, so I stopped in for some take out. Place looked very clean, fair amount of people there. Was disappointed with the food, though. Gravy was good, a bit salty. The biscuits were flat and greasy, not fluffy biscuits like you would get in a real "Southern Breakfast". Also wasn't a very southern price or quantity. . read more

Visited again while flying into BDL. Had another delicious meal. My eggs were cooked perfectly and again was filled with plenty of veggies and cheese. Potatoes were flavorful and just crispy enough to get a nice crunch. Most of all, the atmosphere is very nice. Friendly staff and a clean restaurant. I will be back again. read more

Just stopped in this morning prior to my early morning flight out of BDL. I found it on yelp and it was the only thing open early enough so I figured I would give it a shot. It did not disappoint. The Popeyes omelette was quite good and a generous size. The potatoes were great as well. The gentleman who served me (whom I believe to be the owner) was the only one in when I came in and was awesome. Quick and friendly service, even early in the morning which can be difficult for some people. It was a very nice sized meal especially considering the price. I left for the airport with a full stomach and very satisfied appetite. Should I find myself in Hartford again, I will be sure to be here for breakfast. read more

You can NOT get a better home made breakfast (or lunch) meal here in CT! Tommy knows what he is doing and his passion for making everything from scratch is paying off! The place is always busy! I am addicted to his extremely chunky and savory corned beef hash and NEVER go there without ordering it. I've had just about everything on the menu now and not ONE thing isn't amazing! Even the egg salad is mouth watering! Hummel hot dogs, juicy burgers, amazing omelettes, and these extremely unique curly potato chips. This place stands out in a crowd. Don't wait another minute- get your family down there! One of the most immaculate places I've ever been to also! Something to be said for there! read more

Overall, good restaurant. Not my favorite breakfast joint, but a good place to throw in from time to time. The seating is ample, they keep the restaurant clean, their portions are unnaturally large, and their menu is extensive so you can't complain about options that's for sure. Unfortunately, everything was a bit too salty for my liking. Glad they season, but whoa Nelly...settle down in the salt arena. They make their own homemade corn beef hash. With a little less salt, and a lot more frying on the grill it would actually be really good. I prefer my corn beef hash or home fries well done. You always have to try it once the way they would serve it as my husband tells me, but after getting it I was really wishing I had requested it to be well done. They were flexible. I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy to accompany my order. My husband said, after the waitress left the table, "They offer sides of biscuits and gravy? I didn't see that." I responded with, no, I just went for it and the waitress went with it...without even skipping a beat. That said, I enjoyed the biscuits in gravy as they fry the split biscuit on the grill. Nice touch there. read more

Stayed at the Sheraton for a Basketbull tournament and had time in the morning for breakfast. REALLY glad we headed over to the Gathering Place. The place was neat and clean with a pretty cool, laid-back diner look. The service was very efficient and the waitress took our order quickly and the food came out immediately. I had the sandwich, Andouille sausage, sautéed mushrooms, eggs and melted mozzarella cheese on a bulky. Add a little hot sauce and this was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. My son had the pancakes; three huge fluffy pancakes that filled the plate. Her ordered the real maple syrup (worth the buck) to go with them. Good, fast food served by efficient wait staff in a clean environment at a very reasonable price!!!! A rare find these days! read more

Amazing experience! I had the Big Man Breakfast. The hash comes with regular onions but I subbed with sautéed onions. Mmmm!! Lots of food! I didn't finish everything. Loved the chocolate chip pancakes! Real maple syrup is extra. Next time I'll get it, so as to get the maximum experience. Super nice waitress. Can't wait to go back. read more

A very hearty brunch with diner style seating inside. Everyone was pleasant, and the food was made to order. Not as many options as I'd like as the menu is pretty standard breakfast items. Good, but the menu could use some fresh twists. read more

Had breakfast here was a clean place. Food was a little cold not hot . Think it sat there for a bit. The taste ok nothing out standing . This must be the local towns breakfast place. Just ok to me . read more

By far the best breakfast I've had in months, and I'm from Charleston SC. Great service and piping hot coffee as well. I put in a very complicated order with a bunch of high maintenance requests and they nailed it. 10 stars for this place! read more

Every time I come to CT in the summer, I like to visit random local diners with my sister. This time we came to The Gathering Ground. It was conveniently located near the air port. Since it was during the weekday, it wasn't incredible busy. Walked in and was impressed by the clean and comfortable atmosphere. We were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. Our waitress was very attentive. Food came out in just the right amount of time. It was great! I got two eggs, home fries, and toast. My sister got the vege omelette home fries and toast. Portions were generous and priced fairly. We would definitely recommend this diner to everyone. Worth the trip! read more

Did not want to hear About there sex life and the way they talk about their co-workers not good wrong my breakfast

My daughter and I went here for breakfast on Sunday morning wasn't busy got seated quickly. And that was the only positive aspect of our visit. She ordered two eggs toast bacon and home fries and the only thing that came out good was the bacon. There was green stuff on the egg, showed the waitress and her response was oh I'm super sorry about that.. Then the pancakes were super thin, and doughy and soapy. Told the waitress and she took them back and brought us back some French toast. And I don't know if it's the egg that are using or the milk but the French toast were nasty as well. I don't know if they got new staff here, we used to come here it was delicious. But we will not be returning read more

I'll make a special trip here every time I have to go to Bradley. I wouldn't even know where to begin so it actually makes it easy. Everything and everyone is always fantastic. I know this might seem like a cop out but you'll understand once you start tasting everything on the menu. read more

The service was really fast and the server was friendly. Environment is clean and comfortable. The food is pretty good. I recommend the homemade corned beef hash. It has a good consistency and it's not as salty as others I've had. The pancakes were delicious as well. If I ever come this way again I'll definitely hit it up! read more

We came to Gathering Ground for a quick breakfast before heading on the road and it was so much more than that! Our server, Tina, was so nice and attentive. When we asked for directions two additional employees came over and helped us out. If we weren't from out of town we would definitely be back! read more

Had an amazing brunch today. I had the Eggs Benedict. It was scrumptious. My son had the Meat lovers Omelet and it was so filling he couldn't even finish it. My daughter had The Big Man's Breakfast with the homemade corned beef hash. Delicious! Of course we had to order fries and the homemade chips and those were great. I usually don't order coffee from other diners because I own a cafe where we roast our own beans and I don't want I settle for other coffee. But I have to say, yours was good! Great service. Great atmosphere. Great food. Plus the owner sang while he cooked! Four stars! read more

Wait staff couldn't have been kinder. Clean restaurant. Breakfast was made to order and the taste was perfect. Would definitely go again. read more

Absolutely the best. My favorite is the western omelette. Great place with friendly staff.

I don't give out 5 stars often... I want restaurants to earn that. And to earn 5 stars I feel the establishment needs to be on point in all categories. This place nailed it. Not once, not twice but each day for the last 4 days. The omelets are light fluffy and a great variety to choose from. The hash is home made and done very nicely. The eggs Benedict were amazing. The only complaint... and I had to search for it, I like my potatoes to be just slightly more cooked... it is a preference thing, not a taste thing, so I don't deduct points. Lunch menu offers a wide selection. The staff is great, the cooks know what they are doing. The restaurant is clean. Top marks in all departments.. Wish I lived here so I could be a regular. read more

Compete diner vibe, complete with Price is Right on the TV. Had delicious fluffy omelette with veggies, bacon and lots of friendly service. Prices may be a bit higher than other local spots...$14 for breakfast (also had coffee) but food was worth extra couple of bucks. When back in area would def come back. read more

We walked in and there was one couple ahead of us. Only 4 booths were taken yet the waitress didn't even acknowledge our presence and made coffee and chatted with people already there, even though she saw the line. I guess the food must be good but we took off. Too bad there isn't a score less than zero. read more

* Can Be Good, But Is Too Inconsistent * I dined here twice in the past. Was pretty good. Today was a busy Sunday there, maybe that was the reason it was awful. But it was awful. The wait was long. Our waitress advised us it would be, as "there's a party being held here." OK. But sometimes, good things do NOT come to those who wait: Apparently when they get busy, cleanliness is the first thing that gets neglected. My pancakes tasted like a greasy grill. So awful in fact, I couldn't eat more than two bites. My wife's sandwich was equally disgusting. She took one bite, couldn't brook anymore of it. The coffee was disgusting today, too. The two times in the past I dined here, it was quite acceptable. Home fries were OK, maybe sub-OK. The waitress, while pleasant, didn't have a clue. After waiting an hour for breakfast, we sat there, three combined bites of our breakfasts, our iced coffee glasses both still full (it tasted like detergent). DIDN'T SHE NOTICE? If so, she couldn't be bothered to ask if anything was amiss. Ummmmm... I'm giving it two stars instead of only one because our earlier visits here were pretty good, so I don't want to damn it to hell or anything. But after today, it will be a LONG time before I ever come to this place again. * Phil read more

Gathering Ground - My pancakes last Sunday (August 2014). Tasted as bad as they looked: like bacon or general dirty grease from the grill. - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Windsor Locks, Connecticut

Can't explain how good the food is here. The wings are absolutely delicious. The portions are huge especially for the price. Love the homefries, French toast, and can't wait to try the corned beef hash. Oh and their home made potato chips are amazing. The owner is such a great guy, if you are looking for a place to hold a party, I recommend this restaurant. He was so accommodating and made the night a breeze for our surprise party. Waitstaff is always great. read more

For breakfast this is a typical diner w good homemade food. The corned beef hash is from scratch there in the restaurant. They offer both hash browns and home fries as well. The teens had plate sized pancakes which filled them up, which days something. The cakes were light and fluffy and could have all kinds of add ins but plain were really good. The coffee is strong but adequate-- certainly nothing to complain about. There is plenty of seating too. Casual comfortable environment. read more

I had time to kill at Bradley Airport around breakfast time. Went here based on Yelp. It feels old timey and neighborhoody. Everybody knows your name. Classic breakfast menu. I opted for a turkey burger (I know weird) and it was tasty. Best part was chatting with friendly locals and waitress. read more

4 Stars. Why? breakfast and lunch only. Been remodeled. New owners new menu No more biker waitresses. No more duct tape on the seats. Service with a smile. I heard the new owner used to have a food truck on the "Ella Pike". Ask a trucker....They know where to eat! Omelettes are outstanding. G/F loves the corned beef hash. I only heard one complaint about the hash. He didn't care for it. It is evident that he is used to the canned "Alpo" stuff his wife feeds him at home. LOL read more

For those looking for an early morning breakfast after getting off of a plane, this is the place! I came here bright and early, just as the door opened, so the coffee was fresh and the service was prompt if not immediate. The Morning Alarm, a fried egg topped with mushrooms and andouille sauage served on top of a crispy fluffy bun (was it a potato roll? I can't recall), seemed like an appropriate dish at the time, along with a side order of hash browns with onions. It was just a great breakfast sandwich, nothing overcooked or dry, but not too greasy either (well except for maybe the hash browns, but that's how I like them). As an added bonus, I was even given a good sample of their corn-beef hash for free. Apparently it's brined and "creamed" in house, and it certainly shows: it's delicious! Definitely give this place a try if you're looking for a real hearty breakfast and friendly company too! read more

I wish I could give 3 stars but I can't. The quality of the food to price, quantity ratio- just seems off. In comparison to other breakfast restaurants the food was bland and service was okay at best. The place is clean, fresh and revitalized from the old place that used to be there and that's a huge difference. Unfortunately for me, the interior upgrade doesn't make up for the food quality. read more

Walked in and there was no signage telling us to either wait to be seated or seat ourselves. Not one staff member made eye contact with us while we stood at the door for 5 minutes. My husband finally went to the counter to ask what to do.... ...By the way, you seat yourself. We ordered within a reasonable amount of time, but waited 30 minutes for our food. Waitress didn't check up on us during that time. I don't expect 5-star service in a small diner, but 30 minutes is a long time to wait...especially in a diner. Food was very good, we split the Hungry Man Platter and it was PLENTY of food. Hubby thought it was funny they charged us $0.25 to split the meal... Overall the place was clean, food was good, but service was lacking. read more
