I've recently been trying to eat healthier in an effort to better my health numbers after I noticed they had exacerbated this past year. I knew about Flame Broiler, a dime a dozen shop, but I had forgotten they specialized in healthy bowls that are also good for your soul. Thanks to Fivestars, which I found this location while scrolling around on the app, I may have found my new spot for eats that are healthier than burgers and fries. This Flame Broiler is located in Long Beach by the traffic circle next to Cyclebar. I mention this because inside the restaurant, there's actually a stationary bicycle from Cyclebar. Why they did this, I'm not too sure, but I think it's appropriate to have those two businesses adjacent to one another so that way, after a tough workout or a cycling class, you can treat yourself to some healthy eats that don't taste too bad! I was planning to hit up several places that day, so I only got a Mini Chicken Bowl on this visit. The chicken is NAE, which stands for No Antibiotics Ever. They also offer beef and tofu, or you can get the best of two different worlds. I don't like tofu, and I'm trying to avoid red meat, hence my choice for chicken. The cashier then asked if I wanted white or brown rice. Since brown rice is a lot healthier, that's what I went with. He also recited the list of vegetables that would accompany the chicken and rice, and I agreed to have it all on there. The vegetables are blanched, which generally retains more of the nutrients that my body most definitely needs! It took about 2 to 3 minutes before they were done with my bowl. Quite fast! I'll have to try a regular size bowl to see how much longer they'd need to prepare it. The cashier asked if I'd like teriyaki sauce or hot sauce. I wasn't expecting hot sauce to be an option, and I wasn't sure how hot their hot sauce was, so I simply went with teriyaki. He gave me two cups of that, though I only used one and saved the other one for later. He also included a fork in my small takeout bag. There is plenty of seating inside, even with the presence of the Cyclebar stationary bicycle. I sat at a table and enjoyed every bite of that mini bowl! However, I do believe it would have been tough to eat without any sauce as everything in the bowl, including the chicken, was quite dry. I would also say that one cup of teriyaki sauce might not be enough to satisfy your taste buds, so if you do get a regular bowl, try to ask for a second sauce. The walls are adorned with posters that analyze the ingredients in their bowls: The beef is USDA Choice Angus Beef. The chicken is USDA All-Natural Chicken sans skin. The tofu is organic, extra firm and non-GMO. The proteins are charbroiled. The rice is U.S. extra fancy Calrose medium grain rice grown in NorCal. The vegetables are blanched. Wait, didn't I already say this? I can definitely appreciate how they are being transparent in their ingredients so that we, the customers, know exactly what we are paying for. If you'd like, you can also add green onions on top at no extra charge! At the front window, there's also a poster that advertises their rewards program called Magic Rewards, which is different from Fivestars. From looking at their website https://flamebroilerusa.com/, points can't be earned on in-person purchases. Instead, you can only earn points online, which is contrary to Fivestars, which rewards you a point for every order you make in store. It might be a little confusing having two separate rewards programs for the same eatery, but I think as long as you know that one program rewards online orders while the other rewards in-person orders, you should not get them confused. If Magic Rewards starts awarding points on in-person orders, I wouldn't know if you'd be allowed to double-dip. It's definitely something that will be on my radar, however, in the near future. Overall, I enjoyed my mini chicken bowl, and I look forward to visiting Flame Broiler more often whenever I'm in need of something healthy and don't want to cook at home lol.

Regular NAE Korean Spicy Chicken Bowl

Came here specifically for the Korean spicy chicken and it was not good. Better to order regular chicken.

Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen needed a quick weekday meal. We were greeted upon entry and the person manning the front desk was kind and helpful. The food is simple, rice bowls with your choice of proteins (including tofu), veggies, and sauce. Just what was needed for a healthy version of fast food. The end.

Employees were friendly, made my order perfectly with no sauce or carrots. A minimal wait time.

Make sure you check your orders before leaving the store. Ordered 2 sides of Avocado with the 2 mini bowls. This is what the avocado looked like when I got to where I was going to eat a few minutes after picking up the order.

This place has good food and what you'd expect from a chain semi-fast food joint. The place is in a plaza and area where there are a lot of food options, so competition is stiff. The food is not too bad, chicken and beef are good. I personally think the rice is too dry. The workers are nice and I've never had a problem with them. I also like that this is one of the few places that offers a loyalty program for its customers. Honestly, this is one of those places that you can stop by for quick bite of healthy food. But with so many good options in the area, it probably would not be a go-to spot for many.

    Chicken bowl white meat
    Daniela C.

This flame broiler was very disappointing. I ordered a regular bowl with broccoli and white meat and they gave me very little white meat, definitely not worth the extra $1.50 upgrade charge. Seems like they were being very stingy with the chicken. The first picture is of what they gave me and the second picture is the same exact order from a different location.... You can see the amount of chicken given is very different

My regular bowl half and half you can tell they put effort to retain costumers coming back forsure

Christina met me with such a genuine smile and an eagerness to help that immediately made a difference. It's rare to come across someone who treats people with that level of care, especially in a busy setting. Thank you, Christina, for being so thoughtful and compassionate. Finding where the line starts is an adventure to say the least. The young woman who took my order outside was very slow and was allowing the cars to pile up behind her. I told her I needed to move forward after she sauntered over towards me. She took my order from the passenger side so I was basically screaming at her and she didn't take that as a social cue to move to the drivers side. She heard my dog barking in the car and was appalled, stepped back and gave me a dirty look. She corrected me after I said "animal fries" and called it something else...overall it was a terrible experience. My cashier was much lovelier and kinder. It seems the younger generation is less concerned with customer service and manners. I highly recommend going to a different location for your drive thru needs.

The pineapple added to what's basically a Cuban style sandwich sounds different at first, but it works perfectly. The balance of sweet, savory, crispy, and smoky was spot on. Everything tasted super fresh and the bread held everything together perfectly without getting soggy. My original plan was to eat half and save the rest for later... yeah, that didn't happen. Ended up finishing the whole thing because it was that good. Service was friendly, food came out quick, and the whole spot had a really chill local vibe. Sweet lady with the pretty name, you made my night. I'm the Kiddo who came in late around 9 or 10. My kid had a bad day at school, and a bad day at work. He came home and made dinner, which then promptly fell on the floor. His shoulders just slumped. I said, let me get you some Dave's (He loves DHC). I was also tired from a very long day at work, but drove there after pre-ordering. As soon as I walked in, there's this huge smile at the counter asking what can she do for me. I told her my kid placed an order. She found it and asked would I like any sauce and I said, I don't know. It's for my kid and she said, "I got you!" And proceeded to load me up with sauces she knew my kid would like as we chatted. She seemed to know I had a rough day and was as genuinely kind as she could be, and I'm sure she had been working all day as well and yet, she lit up the store. Just a brief encounter, but it made my whole day, and of course, my kid loved the sliders.

She was an all star but very under staffed at the counter. She was doing what she could, but literally 7-10 ppl at counter waiting at a time isn't a good look. I would assume everything is mostly the same still though, other than the prices, which presumably have gone up like everything else... It's pay at the front - on a tablet, if you know what you want, though an employee is there if you need help. They're clear about the fact that everything is made fresh, so you get it in *exactly* as much time as it takes to be made, which wasn't instant, but was pretty quick. My wife got the 3 piece nugget plate for $12 - a steal at that price. The pieces are *quite* large, and they are pretty great. (She isn't a spice person, so got mild and liked them. Then took half home.) I got the $13 sandwich, which... the pieces of chicken they use for the sandwich are a bit silly, honestly. It's also a great deal, cause you get a ton of fried chicken, but it was also a bit unwieldy? By the time I was halfway into the actual sandwich part of the sandwich, it had fallen apart completely, and I had to eat it with forks (they don't have knives, so 2 forks had to do). Delicious, though. (I got a "medium" spice, which was pretty reasonable. Somewhat spicy, but it could've been a little spicier.) We also shared an order of fries - $6 for fries and a drink. The fries are solid, what you'd expect - also a huge portion (we also took a bunch of fries home for later.) I also gave them an extra $1 for an extra dip (I wanted to try their "signature sauce" as well as the ranch, which they make in-house, both great.) I also, I only discovered afterwards, also gave them another about a dollar in credit card fees, at 3%. (Disclosed, but not *obvious*.) Drinks are sadly just the usual fountain drinks, mostly soda - wish they had slightly craftier drinks, of one kind or another. (Or that they were closer to home so I could more easily get take-out. A solid choice if you're in the area though.)
