They make it fresh when you order and omg it's so good! It's not too dense but not too airy. Also, look at how pretty the donuts look? We got the coffee cake and the S'mores. Definitely recommend eating them while it's warm.
It's been a few years since I've eaten the doughnuts here. Duck Doughnuts used to be my favorite doughnut spot, but not anymore. Unfortunately, the quality has definitely declined. My goto flavor is the maple bacon, but the freshness of the bacon is questionable. Are the bacon bits cooked freshly each day, did I get some from a few days ago, or did I just happen to get the ones that sat out all day? Either way, they should be replaced halfway through the day to guarantee freshness. Meat should be treated with more care than the nut and candy toppings!
Stopped here to grab some ice cream from chocolate shoppe ice cream and while the ice cream tasted great the experience was pretty horrible. When I searched on Google for ice cream near me- chocolate shoppe ice cream popped up then upon looking further I realized it was sold within duck donuts. Still ventured to try it Two guys working, one said he was new, and didn't know where all the flavors were / allowed us to try some b4 we ordered but was a pain bc the flavors were spread between two freezers in front of store and whatever was in the back. Placed an order for 3 double scoop cups (all they had) and took a really long time to make them having to figure out where the flavors were between the front and back of store. Then. They didn't have lids to cover them or a bag to put them in - so we literally covered each cup with another cup and put in a box I had from Costco in my trunk to get them home without dripping everywhere in my car. And I say dripping everywhere bc by the time he finished the last cup/. The others were melted from taking so long. They should probably just stick to donuts if they can't fully support the ice cream products. If I knew now/ I wouldn't have chosen to try there for ice cream. Very unfortunate, bc we probably would have loved the ice cream - but the experience clearly trumped the product.
Duck donuts didn't do it for me. Dropped in after eating at the food court next door. While eating I noticed a couple eating donuts nearby. That sounds good to me. Duck Donuts is a place in a strip mall near the airport in Orange County. They advertise they are different because they make their donuts fresh and made to order for you. You design your own donut and they make it fresh for you. What a great idea! I decided to give it a try. I was a little concerned when I noticed their fryer was smoking a bit and there was a smoky oil smell in their store. The young server was very friendly and asked me to wait five minutes while he makes my delicious home made donut What he gave me looked like someone had stepped on a small donut?? Please look carefully at my pictures for photographic evidence of what they gave me. I bit into it and spit it out. It was an uncooked circle of dough drenched in days old oil. It was the worst donut I have ever seen or tasted. I brought it back immediately and gave it to the server and told him it was horrid, the worst I had every tasted. He said he was sorry but the person who knows how to change the oil and work the fryer correctly was out because of a family emergency. Okay, I understand, things happen in every business. You shut down, fix the problem, and open back up with things running smoothly. This place gets one star because they attempted to fool me that everything was fine when it was not. I left with no refund, no new donut, but hungry and $4.00 less in my wallet. He told me there was no way he could refund me. He tried to call me later with a refund, but I would need to give him my credit card number. I do not recommend this place.

I recently visited Duck Donuts cuz I like ducks. Overall, the donuts were fresh and tasted good -- you can definitely tell they're made to order, since you see them preparing your order, which I appreciated. However, I was a bit disappointed because I had thought (from seeing other post) that purchasing a dozen donuts might come with one of the regular "small" yellow duck as a novelty item. I think the worker said they have "free ducks" once a year there's promo day for it. I understand promotions may vary, but I was expecting that small extra touch to go with the name and was hoping for encouraging folks buying a dozen or two order. :(( And yes, while the donuts themselves were enjoyable, I did find the specialty donuts to be a tad expensive compared to what I anticipated. It was $30+ for the specialty dozen. The specialty flavor menu also changes with the season. I still enjoyed the donuts, I mean who doesn't on a Friday, and different flavors of the donuts.
Swung by today for a sweet treat after seeing all the reviews, but unfortunately this place may be too overhyped. Duck Donuts is located next to Trade Food Hall in the rear corner of the plaza. The shop is cute and very on brand with the amount of rubber ducks that make up the place. Staff were friendly and quick to make our donuts. I got a strawberry confetti and maple glazed donut. The donuts were warm and fresh, however I wasn't a fan of the consistency (it was close to being mushy as the donut kind of fell apart as picked it up for a bite) or the aftertaste of the glaze. There's so many great donut shops in the OC to compete with that I'm not sure this place is worth going out of my way to visit. I really appreciate that everything was made fresh, but the flavors and consistency aren't for me.
Super cute place, and I love the duck theme! I got the blueberry streusel donut which comes with blueberry icing and a streusel topping. They served it warm and it was a great sweet treat! Price was a bit steep for a donut, at a little under $4. But overall solid spot for donuts in Irvine.
A guilty pleasure! Duck Donuts never dissapoints! Made-to-order donuts are such a luxury, I love stopping by and seeing them make it fresh! The service is fast too, you can be in and out super quick. Parking over here sucks though, avoid the lunch rush. Lots of restaurants and plenty of seating outside to enjoy your sweet treat!
Yeah we have a number one ! I'm sorry but this makes voodoo donuts taste like a Dunkin's in comparison. The freshly made glazed donut is a great way to taste what the donut is without the magic. And it's soft, chewy and perfectly sweetened. However if you want a bang for your buck go with the maple bacon donut! Yes Bacon. Also the service was spot on. Quick but also not too fast as they cook the donut to order ! And I couldn't get over the ducks everywhere. Omg the way I wanted to waste all my money on every duck.
This is the place made me love donuts! I wasn't fan of donuts because of the sweetness and high sugar but this is different. They taste very fresh and the sweetness doesn't even bother, you just want to keep eating haha. Definitely worth to give a shot. The best part is you can customize your donuts, you can choose the flavor and topping so you basically do your own and the service is very quick. You can also enjoy the ambiance while you are waiting. There are cute small ducks everywhere and you can even buy one if you like! Overall 10/10!!

Duck Donuts is a small donut shop located outside an Irvine plaza with a decently sized food area. I'm not much of a donut person myself, but this is probably the best place I've gone to that had them. The variety is huge and they're pretty much ready to get once you order them. Both the donuts I had were amazing, and to me, that means a lot just because I typically have criticism against donuts I try. They were genuinely just good and not too much, just the right amount for what they're worth. I loved the sugar donut the most out of these 2 and would come back to try more. Overall, if you want donuts and you're in Irvine, you should stop by Duck Donuts! They have a lot to choose from and I can vouch for them being just right. Plus, there's a ton of fun ducks in different styles that you can even buy if you want on their walls. I love that small aspect of the shop.

This was the best donut I ever had. Trust the 5 star reviews. They have the donut making machines like you'd see in SF wharf. This is indescribably good. Probably insanely bad for you lol but insanely delicious. I got the French toast which has maple icing (my favorite) and the board walk which has Oreos. Good experience. The donuts were great quality. They are different than average donuts you normally see. However, they are freshly made, warm and soft. The reason why I did not give 5 stars is because there was a lot to choose from and the worker did not do a good job of explaining the types of donuts and what to try. Smells like sweet treat heaven every time I come to DD. We love the customized options for donuts and the friendly service. The flavors vary from s'mores, birthday cake, coconut bliss and more! They also have ice cream and delicious lattes. Mornings are really busy so make sure to preorder ahead of time but weekends are usually only 5-10 mins wait. Anytime we have a craving for donuts we always head to Ducks. read more

Have you ever had one of those nights where you're just craving for donuts but nothing is open as per usual in Irvine? Thankfully this place stays open relatively late, sometimes 10PM on certain days! It was actually my first time visiting, and I was so surprised to see that they actually make the donuts fresh after you order! They literally take your order and then proceed to make it behind the counter, since it's glass, you can see everything they're doing. Once you get the donuts, they're still piping hot with the dripping glaze. Yum! read more
I wanted to like this place more. Really, I did. There are few things in life that are better than a freshly fried donut. Unfortunately, the only time I get one is 1) at a fancy restaurant, or 2) on the rare occasion that I stop by Krispy Kreme when the light is on. And, it's for this reason that I thought I'd love Duck Donuts. They make your donut to order, so it's always fresh. Sure, this means that you gotta wait, and no, I have no idea how they can manage if there's a rush of orders/people, but I'm willing to plop down $2.50 on a truly fresh donut. And, I figured I'd love this place even if the donut wasn't a truly great one. After all, selling freshly made-to-order food is what made places like Krispy Kreme* and Pieology** successful. So, I went ahead and ordered a blueberry iced donut with crushed graham crackers. Unfortunately, the donut was rather mushy and dense. Not terrible, but not great either. If I ever go back, I'll probably stick to the chocolately/peanut-buttery flavored ones instead. I have no idea why this place is so highly rated. If you want a truly great donut, make the trip to Sidecar. * Krispy Kreme makes mediocre donuts; they're only great when you get a fresh one while waiting in line. I think they really exposed their mediocrity when they decided to sell them in grocery stores. ** Pieology does not make great pizza, but fresh pizza is almost always good. When I had an appointment at OC Waxing I was told to come here and I'm glad I did! This donut place is a made to order place so everything is fresh. I love watching the employees make my donut compared to watching the conveyer belt at krispy kream. I honestly recommend this place if you're in the area and craving a donut. There's so many combinations to try or they also have a menu if you don't feel like being creative that day. I will say the parking lot can get crazy around lunch/afternoon so I recommend coming here in the morning. read more

Duck Donuts is located by the TRADE foodhall in Irvine, off of Michelson. They are known for their fresh made-to-order donuts. From frying to glazing to toppings to drizzles, the choices are yours or you can pick from one of their recommended donuts. Pricing - $2.25/single donut - $12.95/half dozen - $22.50/dozen I decided on a signature donut and a seasonal donut. The signature donut was a Bacon in the Sun. The freshly fried donut is coated with maple icing, topped with bacon, and then drizzled with salted caramel drizzle. The donut cake is a bit dense for my liking and the maple icing was on the thin side. I liked the generous amount of bacon and the salted caramel was a nice touch compared to all of the other bacon maple donuts out there. The seasonal donut I originally picked was the Peppermint Holly Berry, but they were out of the holly berry. Instead I got the next closes choice, which was the Peppermint Hot Cocoa. All of the donuts have the same donut cake base, and this one was dipped in the vanilla icing and then topped with crushed peppermint and drizzled with hot fudge. The vanilla icing had a better consistency and I surprisingly enjoyed this donut more even when I am typically a fan of maple donuts. Looking forward to enjoying more of these when the season cycles back. A great spot for fresh made donuts, especially during the later times of the day when you typically can't get freshly made donuts. I really like the customized aspect, but that luxury comes at a price. I would probably come more often if I liked the donut cake base a bit more. read more
Not sure what happened, but our donuts came completely soggy on the bottom. Even without that, the flavors of the donuts were mediocre. The vanilla icing was overwhelming and just not that tasty, and the peaches on top are pretty much flavorless and not very fun to eat. They did give us a free extra donut though, as it was close to closing time! Maybe the soggy donut was just a closing time issue, but I still don't think I would come back. The price is pretty reasonable for fresh, warm donuts with lots of toppings, but know that the donuts are pretty small (Krispy Kreme size)! read more

John is awesome. I kept hearing about this place and didn't understand why people thought a donut shop could be so special. Well, it was my coaches birthday, so I decided to grab a box and find out. I walked in and told John that this was my first visit. He walked me through the options and I told him to choose his top faves since I didn't know what to get. He said sure, I paid and he walked away. I was like WTF is he going? But then realized they make all their donuts fresh when you order them! He was dropping dough into the fryer and checked with me for preferences and allergies before topping away. I am not a huge donut fan but these are great. Now I might really like donuts. But when they're fresh and topped with care like they do at Duck. Between the quality of food, excellent service and the experience... I will definitely be back. These donuts were a freaking hit. read more

The store is nice and clean. The location is good and the staff is nice. They have a yelp deal where they give free donuts however, you kind of need to write the review up front which is sort of awkward for me. Anyway, I told the cashier that I would finish my review upon eating the donut. She said she wanted 3 lines of reviews from me so I think that is sufficient for now. ---------- Donuts were delicious. I know doughnuts are more of a breakfast kind of deal, but we were craving some for dessert. Sidecar in Costa Mesa was already closed by 6:00 PM when we finished dinner, so we searched on Yelp and found out this place was still open. Duck Donuts is in the corner of Trade Food Hall along Michelson Drive, situated in the Irvine Business Complex south of the 405 and east of SNA. Parking in the plaza was alright, we were able to find a close spot with little difficulty. It's a small shop with a line that goes out the door, which is probably a combination of (1) popularity, (2) the fact that each doughnut is made to order, and (3) there were only two staff members running around fulfilling orders. We waited about 15 minutes. You can customize your doughnut to your liking by choosing different glazes, toppings, and drizzles. They also have several preset options, seasonal/holiday flavors, and specialty offerings. We decided on: The Flip-Flop - Chocolate icing with vanilla drizzle The Boardwalk - Glazed, oreo crumbles, powder sugar, vanilla drizzle Cookies & Cream - vanilla icing with Oreo crumbles and hot fudge drizzle All the doughnuts are vanilla cake doughnuts hot off the press. Definitely one of the freshest and fluffiest I've tried so far, each bite was super decadent. Only downside is the glaze on top doesn't have time to settle and it gets messy real fast. I would grab plenty of napkins, forks, and knives. And while you can't go wrong with a vanilla base, I wish they had other flavors. They also serve Thrifty if you're in the mood for ice cream instead! read more

To be honest, all 6 flavors of oreo, strawberry, powdered sugar, peanut butter, caramel, and (don't remember the last one) were all delicious and gone within one day. Ordered a custom donut, the base is a vanilla donut which is quite well done and served warm. You add your own toppings (we chose lemon and coconut shreds) and drizzle (we chose raspberry). Overall it was fine but nothing too special. The drizzles and lemon dressing felt a little too artificial tasting but maybe other combos would be better. read more

It had the right amount of sweetness mixed with a soft cake-like texture. The donuts here are on the pricier side but I thoroughly enjoyed it! You really can't go wrong with Duck Donuts. Their donuts are so so fresh and warm. Yeah the icing may not have set yet but you can't get mad with the warm donut though!!! I signed up to receive their emails and they sent me this promo that I could not turn down. I got 13 donuts for a super good deal and I tried most of their signature and seasonal flavors! I stopped by Duck Donuts to try one donut for dessert after eating ramen in the same plaza. It's located in one corner of the plaza with plenty of parking but it gets real busy during lunch hours so beware. Also, most spots are a 90 minute limit, but I don't think anyone monitors it. Upon entering, I was greeted by an employee right away who asked if I had any questions. I glanced over the menu and decided to go with a blueberry pancake donut. You have the option to fully customize your own donut or order a flavor of their choice. While waiting, I tasted one of the samples they had out in a container. It was a vegan donut but it was surprisingly tasty! After a few minutes my name was called and was given my donut in a small box. I took my first bite carefully because it was still freshly hot. I've heard about Duck Donuts so many times and I'm so glad I finally got to try it! Some initial notes: - they only have cake donuts, not the normal yeast/fluffy kind! - their donuts are all very sweet - you get a box even if you order just one donut - you can check in on Yelp for 10% off - there's an app you can download and directly order from Since it was our first time, we ended up ordering half a dozen using their premade recipes. We got their 1) coconut island bliss, 2) sunrise, 3) boardwalk, 4) the beach, 5) peanut butter paradise, and 6) blueberry pancake. My favorite ones were sunrise and blueberry pancake. Even though they were all really good in the first few bites, they are also very sweet and heavy. I also thought the donuts were kind of dry (probably because they're cake donuts). I would definitely come back, but I'd probably just get just one donut, as it's enough to share with a friend! read more

Picked up the donut while waiting for our waitlist for HiroNori. Two 5 stars in the same mall?! That's crazy. Mmmmmm. It's true. You gotta eat it while it's warm and all goeey. It definitely is fun to get your favorite flavors. Will want to come back and try more flavors! The only thing that made it uncomfortable was the guy at the front taking orders didn't seem to be very friendly and happy. But the donuts. Yum! The french toast was definitely a hit and hubs and I liked the ones we picked cuz it was our favorite flavors. read more
Finally had the chance to write a review for this place after going several times. In terms of flavor and doughnut quality I would say it is pretty good (4 star quality). They pretty much make the doughnuts fresh when you order it. They have their selections right next to the register and be sure to look at their seasonal options too. Their doughnuts tend to be on the sweeter side and a cake-like consistency. If you are looking for something decadent, then it would be perfect. The reason why I gave this place a 3 star review instead of a 4 is because of the customer service. I've been to this location and the Huntington Beach one several times and every time I have experience excellent customer service. However today's encounter with an employee named Sydney was not the greatest. I work in an industry where I have to deal with customers everyday so I understand that we all have our bad days, but a professional should try to hide it. When I had asked about milkshakes she seemed pretty annoyed and there was also a miscommunication when I was ordering a half dozen of doughnuts. Usually the workers would confirm the order before finalizing it, but in this case she seemed to be in a rush (the store was not really that busy) and I had only noticed the error after reviewing my receipt. I had informed her right away and she looked annoyed and said I had ordered 2 of that specific doughnut, when I had only wanted one of it. In the end she was able to revise my order, but I could tell she was not happy. We weren't even offered utensils or anything like the previous customer. I will probably not go back to this location as often due to this customer experience. If you want to check this place out I would recommend checking out the Huntington Beach one as they have exceptional service and are very friendly. read more

We make a vegan dough and then the majority of our toppings and drizzles are vegan. The staff know exactly which are not vegan, depending on your need.
