Berry Stuffed French Toast®
Laurie Ann L.

This is definitely the last time we will ever go to Denny's next to Disch Falk Field in Austin. We have been parking in the area around Denny's for years when going to the UT baseball and football games. Denny's is so convenient so we like to get there early to park and then stop there for something to eat or drink, especially when it's really hot out. The service has continuously gone down over the years and the last time we went was pretty much a joke. We were seated right away and the staff was friendly enough and she quickly came to take our order. My husband ordered the senior omelette plate and I ordered Stuffed French toast with a side of hashbrowns. A few minutes later, a different waitress went to the table next to us and asked them to repeat their order because our waitress had forgotten what it was. Then about five minutes later, our waitress came to our table and she told us she had forgotten our order, so we ordered again. When our food came out, my husband's omelette plate was accurate but all I had was two pieces of French toast on a plate. It took a while for us to get our waitress attention and I told her I ordered stuffed French toast with a side of hashbrowns. She took my plate back to the kitchen and that's the last we saw of her. After a while, the second waitress came with my food and it was the stuffed French toast but had sausage with it. I told her I did not order sausage but ordered a side of hash browns, so she took it back to the kitchen once again and came back with just the stuffed French toast. It was very good by the way. She said they would have to cook me some hashbrowns and then she would bring them out. We honestly thought we allowed enough time to eat before going to the football game, but as it was I had to really hurry and eat the hashbrowns when they came out, and I didn't even finish them because they tasted like they had been fried in old oil. Around that time, the second waitress was asking anyone if they had seen our original waitress and apparently she had just walked out of work. That was not much of a surprise to us because she seemed very confused when she talked to us. The second waitress was nice enough to take the hashbrowns off of our order since I did not get them until we were ready to leave. And thankfully, they did not charge us for the bacon that just appeared about halfway through our meal. On a sidenote, a gentleman walked in while we were eating and went and sat down at the counter. After several minutes he asked if he could get a menu and someone told him he would just have to wait because he was supposed to wait to be seated and they would have to get around to him. I lost track of how long it took for them to even get him a menu. Very rude. We will not be going back.

Great service, good comfort food and open late. If you are a senior citizen, have they got a deal for you! And our waitress, Tasha, was awesome! (Gave her a good tip.) I'll be back!!!

Wanted to try this location because of the cool looking building. It has a retro feel. Service was fast and food was good. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. Restaurant and bathrooms looked clean.

Whole store closed and locked up after I paid for an online order.

The food is good and reasonably priced. But they seem to be short on the staff - each order takes a long time to arrive.

Unfortunately, the kitchen just wasn't on their game this day. We went for brunch and it is a lovely restaurant with some amazing looking pastries. My ratings of the food we got are below. Overall, everything was just okay and not something I would order again. Our order: Salami and cheese - 1/10, not even edible with how much olive oil they dumped on it. Hard cheese and meat. None of us touched it. Frites - 9/10, hard to go wrong here. Nice and crispy French cruller - 7/10, I think this is just personal presence here I wished it was warmed up. Flavor was good but it was a little dry. Burger - 5/10, the flavor is there and definitely has potential but it was so bloody and rare which is not what we asked for. My friend has a gluten allergy and she asked for the burger lettuce wrapped and it just came on top of a huge chunk of iceberg so wouldn't recommend that if you want it lettuce wrapped. Chicken sandwich - 8/10, this was good with a nice crispy chicken. It could have used something sweet to balance the spice though it was a little one dimensional.

Upon entry was greeted by Melissa and sat in her section. The decor is very diner type with low, cozy booths and few tables and chairs. Not too big of a space and not sure if there is more seating elsewhere. Anyhoo, coffee was good and I got the Royal toast and a single pancake with eggs, and sausage. Ample amount of food and def had take away box. Everything was tasty and the buttermilk pancake was amazing with just syrup. Melissa was kind enough to provide little cups to take syrup home along with the tael away container. They had a daily special and a board above the kitchen with other items. I drove by it for 20 years on the way to Avenue Barber Shop. I wanted shredded beef tacos but couldn't get them without cilantro so I chose shredded beef enchiladas (with an $8!) side of chips and salsa. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries. She requested soft eggs, as she always does because too many places overcook them. The chips and salsa arrived. I was immediately disappointed. The menu said "we make our own chips." They were thick and yellow and appeared to be run-of-the-mill, out-of-a-bag chips. I prefer the thin white ones. I took one bite of salsa, and that was one bite too many. Cumin. I pushed it all aside. Cumin doesn't belong in salsa. (Sorry. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.) My enchiladas came with black beans, and there was cumin in them. Cumin is overused and abused in most restaurants. I couldn't eat them. The rice was good but the chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was not. I scraped most of the sauce off and ate one enchilada, mainly because I just needed something in my stomach. We were still 45 miles from home. I pushed my plate away. I also ordered coffee. One sip of that was all I could stand. Too weak for me. It gets worse, much worse. My wife's eggs were barely cooked. She asked the waiter for some cooked eggs. He took her plate and returned about four minutes later. The eggs were still not cooked. She tried another bite but couldn't eat them. Her bacon was tough as a boot and not chewable. The home fries were average, but by the time her plate arrived at our table for the second time, they were cold. I pulled my card out waiting for our excellent server to return. He asked how everything was (he had to notice two plates still covered with food) and we politely told him. I ate one enchilada and some rice. My wife had two bites of egg and two bites of potato. He apologized and handed me the check. $65. Nothing comped and nothing adjusted. A manager should've been summoned. How does a place like this have any customers? It was our first and last visit.

Horseradish crusted salmon - I didn't try it but the two people who ordered at our table were disappointed and wished they would've gotten one of the above Desserts GET THIS: 1. Bread pudding was delicious! Not overly sweet & the added white chocolate gives it that dazzle dazzle 2. Chocolate Espresso Brownie - perfection NOT THAT: 1. Banana cream pudding. Friendly staff overall. The food fell flat for almost all of us. The salads were fresh and good. However, the ribs were below average. Cornbread was stale and not tasty. Not quite sure why the food was subpar, but there were 10 of us who all agreed we wouldn't return for food. There is a swanky little cozy speakeasy in the basement that may be good? We didn't try that.

It's a small space, with only around eight tables and a tiny kitchen behind the counter. It's a bit hard to locate from outside. There's no big sign on the window indicating the restaurant's name, just a plastic A-frame sign outside the building's doors. When I got there, four of the eight tables were empty but the dirty dishes had not yet been cleared. It took close to 10 minutes for the tables to be bused. Because the kitchen is so small, I'd recommend going up to the counter to order as soon as you get there. I believe you can also place your order online using the QR code on the table, but I didn't try that method. I ordered the lox n found, a toasted croissant roll with smoked salmon, avocado, dill ricotta, arugula, onion, and capers. The menu says it also comes with a side of roasted potatoes, but mine didn't come with that. The sandwich was delicious and filling, so I definitely didn't need them, but I do feel like I didn't get what I paid for.
