This first watch was great! The service was super courteous, the place was so nice, full of happy customers, a beautiful restaurant, and the food was varied and good! What is not to like? We had our final Austin brunch there and were happy we made that choice. Of course it's a chain restaurant, but good quality food is always nice. So I remembered that they have a virtual line you can join - and sometimes that works- and so I joined the line. We had a party of 6 going. At brunch... that was going to take a while! Well The strategy worked as we were in their list when we got there! So remember to get on that waitlist so you won't have to wait so long while at the restaurant Warning: their coffee is strong! Lol - we had a cup while waiting, and I was done. Lol! We ordered the turkey sausage and gravy with a biscuit and potatoes. We still had the gravy craving since we got so little of it at Another Broken Egg the day before... well this time we got a good serving of gravy to complete our craving! Yess! However... since I'm comparing... I did like yesterday's gravy more... I guess First Watch's gravy was healthier (turkey sausage) and needed milk- it was good, don't get me wrong, plentiful and flavorful, but... the other one was better ‍ Then we also shared some of these strawberry French toast. The French toast was thick and yummy and the whole thing looked super delish! I personally would have liked real whipped cream on top- I think this was miracle whip and just a let down in consistency for me. Yuck. It was left behind. And the strawberries were not all fresh? It had a great flavor, but we found we were sorting thru the strawberries to get the fresh ones versus some that were not. My daughter said she enjoyed it and would get it again... but also didn't like those 2 details. Anyway we are being picky. But those are opportunities for improvement- so that's what it's all about. The other friends got some omelettes and a veggie dish but we were seated far so I couldn't get their pictures- oh and a delicious morning drink with orange juice and some other juices that we unfortunately spilled all over... but most of it was delicious ! Met a Yelp friend and her son for a late breakfast at First Watch on Anderson Lane. She got the avacado toast with salmon and I got the steel-cut oatmeal with fruit and a muffin. In addition, the restaurant was sparsely populated. Very quiet environment... Stephen, our server, was accommodating and attentive. He provided a high chair and joyfully toasted my muffin, when asked. I paid at the table via a QR code. My friend paid at the cashier's desk at the front of the restaurant. Great first time experience at this breakfast and lunch place! We don't have a first watch where I live, so I was excited to try a chain that some of my friends in Austin rave about. They have a huge one after traditional breakfast items and breakfast items with a twist, as well as a robust lunch menu. Coffee is served diner style right when you get seated. I loved the traditional diner meets modern twist! They have a bunch of seasonal items, and I opted to try the seasonal breakfast sandwich, which had a croissant, meatball, bacon, egg, and jam. It was both sweet and savory, and the perfect treat that you could still haul breakfast. I would love to try more items on the menu one day. read more

A coworker and I had recently had a conversation about breakfast. He mentioned he liked this place. Looked at the menu a few times over the years; didn't look like my thing. I mean, I consider Jim's and Dan's Hamburgers to be my go to spots. GF had surgery on 38th street and after she was released I went north to try First Watch. Attentive service was provided; multiple glasses of iced tea were served at one time to keep me happy during the meal. Digs are simple; not too much going on in the space. I've never been a "hash" person. Even though the "bowl" is the new hash I've always had my food divided on the plate. Well, the Market Hash sounded good because goat cheese. Don't think I've ever had zucchini in a breakfast dish. Even ordered the taters dressed with "million dollar bacon" and some kind of extra sauce. Taters weren't that great even with the extra money spent. Bacon was you guessed it overcooked. Perhaps once in eating the dish I detected the most miniscule amount of goat cheese. I will offer this advice though; start in the middle and work your way outward. Most of the ingredients were under the eggs and didn't get many veggies until I went to the center. GF asked for me to note the generous amount of butter on the toast. Dining out is getting expensive so expect to spend around $50 on breakfast for two. FW was good; fancier than my usual greasy spoons but I think in reality I'd choose my old favorites. Or, Migas at a local Tex-Mex spot for a spicier kick. read more

We liked the Cedar Park location so much that we thought we would give this place a try as well. However, this location is like dining inside of an office or storage space, not a restaurant. Everything on the menu is very reasonably priced, although the juices and beverages had no pricing on the menu. We started with their bacon cheddar cornbread and two fresh juices. The cornbread was good, but it was a little on the sweet side. Our two juices were the best part of the meal. I was somewhat disappointed with my trifecta because the pancake was not cooked all the way through (I should've got the waffle) and both the egg and bacon were just slightly warmer than room temp. I did like the fact that they do bring you a bottle of warm maple syrup. The wife liked her avocado toast with the multigrain bread and fresh avocado, but she remarked that something seemed missing. Nothing to make it pop like a side of salsa. Service was attentive, and the prices were in line with the quality of the food. I had a very good brunch at a First Watch in North Texas, so I was interested to try Austin's location. This time, I went for lunch options, although breakfast was still available after noon. There were all sorts of sandwiches on offer, then I noticed the salads. Salads?! Oh yeah, those things that have veggies and are good for you! I can go for that occasionally. My Sweet Pecan Chicken turned out to be the best of all worlds. It has a nice pile of tasty greens and avocado with a yummy warm dressing, but also nice chunks of chicken and bacon, served with a hunk of buttered ciabatta. My friend ordered a traditional Benedict, but specified soft-scrambled eggs, and said the kitchen got it just right. I love that they just leave carafes of coffee and water on the table so you can pour as needed. Our server was friendly and personable, and said, "Oooh, I LOVE that one!" about the salad I ordered. The only slight disappointment was the Million Dollar Bacon. It was tasty, but at $5.99 for four small, fairly thin, and rather flaccid slices, I wouldn't even call it a worthwhile "Six Dollar Bacon." I always love a good breakfast at First Watch. This time I visited with my boyfriend and the food was delicious as usual. I got the SoCal Hash and really liked it. I was debating between the regualr and the SoCal but I'm happy with the decision I made. The jalapeño crema on top was so yummy. My boyfriend got the chile chorizo omelet and it looked really good too. He said it was spicy and super filling. The portions were pretty generous so we definitely left full. Having decanter of coffee and water on table is great, not having to wait for refills and the food has always been a good quality. We had a bit of difficulty with the waitlists but were able to be seated before the estimated wait time. Large menus with seasonal items. I ordered a benedict. Didn't come with the arugula or avocado but the waiter was very nice to bring out the avocado, they had run out of arugula. Let me start off by saying I love first watch and have been to a few of their locations however sadly this one missed the mark on a Sunday morning for brunch. We got seated and they were having some issues with their coffee maker and although our server brought out some coffee it tasted extremely bitter like it was burnt and the last few drops in the pot. The food came out accurately however I can't say this was the best I've ever had and sadly I order the same thing when I come because I enjoy it so much. The eggs in my bacado were rubbery and cold, the salad was extremely undressed (and I love the dressing it comes with), the pancake I ordered on the side was large enough to share with someone however it was dry, nor hot, in which it had to be drenched in syrup to swallow. The blueberry compote that came with it helped it out but still wasn't up to what I thought I'd be getting. The saving grace of my meal - the cereal milk - this was absolutely DELICIOUS! I don't know what was happening at this location however sadly I won't be rushing my way back any time soon. read more

Unfortunately it took over 40 minutes to get our food and at that mine was very cold so I had to ask for it to be redone. My husband had the avocado toast, and he said it was good. There was nothing spectacular about it, it was literally avocado, toast and 2 eggs. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were really good. Had they come out hot the first time I'd give an extra star in my review. But because they were cold, and it took over 40 minutes, that deserves 3 stars. I always enjoy the food from First Watch. They have a few vegetarian options on the menu but I usually get the Tri-Athlete. I'm always in the mood for an egg white omelette even when it's not breakfast hours. The market veggie sandwich is also really good along with the tomato basil soup. What started out as a Door Dash debacle ended up as a really nice break for me and a very attentive and great staff. I was getting some work done this morning and utilized Door Dash to bring me what I was craving: A Waffle! First Watch has some darn good waffles and I decided that I'd utilize Door Dash to have one delivered, so I could continue to get work done. The order finally arrives and it's not mine. Yikes! I let Door Dash know and am "refunded" much less than what I paid. *sigh I decide I really want that waffle and give First Watch a call. Not only was the person who answered the phone delightful, they hopped into "let's get this fixed!" mode and told me they would be happy to make sure my food was made and ready when I arrived. They then asked me if I wouldn't mind letting the manager, Joey, know what had happened. Joey was as sweet as could be and told me to head on over, that he would be waiting on me. I made the drive (it's about 30 minutes from I'm currently staying) and get there to be greeted by Joey with a giant smile and more apologies for the situation. He let me know that the food had been sitting for a bit, would I mind waiting and he'd make me a fresh plate... sounds great! I asked if I could just sit down and eat there, and he welcomed me in, sat me down and went off to the kitchen to prepare a hot plate for me. Within a few minutes, I had my Trifecta in front of me and really enjoyed the eggs, bacon and waffle so much. I re-edited this review to spare you why I left a two dollar tip on a $50 check. I hate myself for doing it and have to ask myself why is it ever OK to tip so poorly. My review is why in the world did I spend 13$ on steel cut oatmill, the "Healthy Choices" staple when it was a smaller portion size than the muffin that came on the side that i didn't eat or want? Give me 2 cups of oatmeal, instead of this sugary dessert masquerading is breakfast fare! "We here at first watch HQ know how hard it is to make good choices when you go out to eat. You make the most obvious, boring choice on the menu in order to try very hard to make up for that donut you ate earlier in the morning during a moment of weakness... Unfortunately went in on a Saturday morning at 845 before a flight to grab a mimosa and some food. Our waitress was sweet and kind so this isn't knocking her. She came over and said her manager wouldn't let her serve us a mimosa until 10am because of the law. Why a breakfast place with postered pictures of mimosas and other cocktails wouldn't serve? No idea. I didn't argue with her because it's not her fault, she's the messenger. However TABC hours of consumption on Saturdays is 7am-1am Sunday. Waitress was apologetic and we gave her a tip even though we didn't get anything because we at least sat down and she was kind. Manager didn't even come over to explain just had the poor waitress relay the message. Hopefully the owner/manager can refresh their memory with TABC rules and regulations. read more

I was very impressed with the breadth of their menu and gluten-free selection. They offer gluten- free bread at no extra charge. Their menu is more expansive than Another Broken Egg, and their prices haven't risen from egg-flation. I ordered the smoked salmon eggs Benedict gluten- free, but it wasn't as good as District Kitchen. Though the side of potatoes was a large portion. There were too many raw red onions on the eggs Benedict, and their hollandaise sauce wasn't as good as District Kitchen. I don't know what District Kitchen uses in their hollandaise sauce to taste more rich, but it's either butter or ghee. It took me a while to get the manager's attention to get our bill, but she eventually saw me. I'll have to come back and give the menu a second try. They have an expansive juice selection. Maybe I could try their traditional breakfast or French toast next time. read more

Yes, it's a national chain (537 locations in 29 states at last count), but First Watch is one of the go-to breakfast places in Austin for my wife and me. The coffee is always good, if not great (we always ask for actual half-and-half in a little pitcher in lieu of the standard International Delight cups o'whiteout on the table), the choices of breakfast-related items are varied and plentiful, and the portions are ample, with a good protein-to-carb ratio. I heart the "Chickichanga" (per FW's website, "whipped cage-free eggs with spicy, all-natural chicken breast, chorizo, green chiles, Cheddar and Monterey Jack, onions and avocado rolled in a flour tortilla. Topped with Vera Cruz sauce and all-natural sour cream. Served with fresh, seasoned potatoes") and the Frittata Rustica ("A classic Italian-style omelet with kale, house-roasted Crimini mushrooms, onions and tomatoes topped with Mozzarella and Parmesan. Served with ciabatta toast and lemon-dressed organic mixed greens"). But really, you can't go wrong with any of the breakfast items. I'd stay away from the lunch-type sandwiches and soups on offer; there's nothing wrong with them, but they pale in comparison to the breakfast/brunch plates. Our problem today was the service (I must add that this FW, in a busy North Central hood, was not our usual location). Our waiter was a guy in his early twenties who seemed to be in a big hurry to be somewhere else and disappear, which he did for long stretches, although the restaurant wasn't at all crowded (we visited on a normal Wednesday between noon and 1 p.m.). I requested a glass of water and he never returned with one; a bit later, I requested a take-home box and he...never returned with one (we eventually caught the eye of a friendly young waitress who brought both items in our nominal waiter's stead; we were left wishing she had been our waitress from the start. Our actual waiter did, however, slap the check down on our table without our asking for it). Aside from the waitron issue, we'd gladly return, preferably to one of our favored FW locations in Northwest Austin or Cedar Park where the customers are made to feel welcome and appreciated, not a nuisance to be tolerated and ignored. read more
