I'm still pleased with this location. On my recent visit I was warmly greeted at the register; additionally, the employee had no trouble applying my app reward to my order. I ordered two pastries, one to-go and one for dining, along with a hot mocha. Everything was delivered just as I ordered. The warm chocolate almond croissant I ordered is now officially my favorite croissant! The chocolate isn't heavy handed and the pastry is very flaky. My mocha had a generous helping of whipped cream (gotta love that!), and was just chocolatey enough. The iced sugar cookie I brought home was crisp on the edges and soft in the middle. The icing was nice and sweet. If I'm back in the area again, I won't hesitate to pop back in. read more

They have a great "You Pick 3" lunch special which starts at $8.99. I had the 1/2 salad and 1/2 caprese sandwich + iced tea which was a great value. I really loved the balsamic salad dressing (which they actually sell bottles of). The staff was nice and the place was clean. Parking is ample. When we were there, it was pretty quiet - only about 3 tables were occupied. I definitely need to consider this place more often when looking for a spot to eat. read more

For 3-1/2 years, I have eaten lunch at least 3 days a week at La Madeleine on Great Hills Trail and Research Blvd in Austin, TX. I have loved their salads and usually order one of their half salads with or without chicken. I have even posted rave reviews on their Facebook page and Yelp about the great food and service online. Since I eat there so much, they have sent many discounts and promos to my email which I have never used. I always pay full price for my food and have been happy to do so since I have enjoyed the food and service so much there until recently. About a month or so ago, a new young Manager was hired, I guess to save them money, because the amounts they have started to serve as soon as he arrived, have gotten WAY SMALLER for the same price, and they use lettuce that is turning brown with barely any dressing at all; not to mention that salads are as dry as a bone. So today, he waited on me and I told him I had noticed the changes, and would like a salad that is the size of what they used to serve, and that I shouldn't have to ask him to put dressing on my salads, nor that the quality of the ingredients and the amounts they are now serving are inferior to what they used to serve. I asked why the sudden change after I had been eating there 3-4 times per week for 3 years, that the quality and service had suddenly begun to go downhill since his arrival. He said he is giving portions that HE determines are what is best for you and all you need. He is young, arrogant, cocky and full of himself, and I predict he is going to slowly lose the loyal customer base they've had for years if they continue to give you less, both in size and in quality, for your money. Most of the people who eat there are senior citizens who are on fixed incomes and like myself, won't continue to throw good money at portions that can barely sustain you for an hour let alone until your next meal, nor with rotting lettuce leaves and scant dressing with 2-3 croutons. Thank goodness they have bread, butter and jam at no extra cost or their patrons might starve with their "new" portions. If I dine there in the future, only now because I have made friends with many who work there since I have been a regular for so long, I will just have to compensate by cutting out their tip to compensate for being overcharged for what I'm getting. SO, BUYER BE WARE... it will be a miracle if this young manager doesn't end up putting this La Madeleine location out of business. read more

My love for Chicken Caesar Salads actually began there and probably the rest of America, since you can find their dressing in every grocery store. So I have walked inside in the cashier, smiled at me. The kitchen staff smiled at me as he was facing me when I first walked in . The cashier was listening to my request and got the manager for me because I had a coupon that was to go order to be fixed from the previous order problem so this time the manager took my order and everything was correct as I placed the order to go this time, the problem was when the cashier walked away going towards the kitchen by the office she took her gloves off, and then she put her fingers in her mouth as she was biting her nails she was talking to another employee unless it was a manager at that point there was two Females walked into the restaurant as I watched them walk to the front of the line to get to the cashier area, she did not wash her hands. Instead she just walked back to the cashier area and started taking their order at that point she put a glove on which was white colored Only on one hand, and then after the ladies had their order taken, she did not wash her hands she at that point started giving the food to different tables. sadly, it will be on camera if they do go see that as I was sitting and waiting at the to go order a table area in the dining area. I just couldn't believe it that just happened. I just thought that employee should wash her hands, but it's not my place to train her because I don't work there. I really wanted some delicious French toast. La Madeleine failed me in my quest for the aforementioned breakfast deliciousness. Walked in and stood there as it's hard to determine who was taking orders for to go or dine in. Easily stood there for 5 minutes before one of the employees stopped prepping orders and acknowledged us. Then she passed us off to the guy working the other cash register. You pay for your food and receive a number to place on the stand wherever you seat yourself. It was a long time while waiting on the food. So the food finally is brought to the table by the cashier and as soon as he sat it down, I notice that it is just griddled bread. No dipping, battering or wafts of yummy greeting me. It was just pan bread with some cinnamon and powdered sugar. I touched it and it was cold upon arrival. There's no one tending to the tables so I go back to the register and wait some more to tell them my food arrived cold. They remade it and it got no better. I think the bacon is pre-made and they keep it on a warm area of the grill for plating. But this so called French toast....just sad. I've had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that had more flair. Although there is some French décor and theme in menu, there is not a solid reflection in what you receive. Many of the tables had not been cleaned in between customers and they seemed to struggle to keep up with orders. You can fill out the survey at the bottom of your receipt and receive a free bakery item. I opted for the oatmeal raisin pecan cookie which was better than my breakfast. You can view the menu online or by scanning the barcode at the register. Some employees were wearing masks and some had them but wore them incorrectly. During the winter storm, we lost all of our power and we were craving soups and hot chocolate. The one place that was opened was La Madeleine! Lots of parking available, so no worries there. Ambiance: chill. Nothing fancy. It was busy! A lot of the tables were not clean and that's a pet peeve of mine. But it was busy!! The fire was on and that was a nice touch. Service: NOT GOOD. The girls were on their phone and one of them even had their AirPods on. Unprofessional. We had questions regarding the food since this was our first time, not one of the girls were helpful. Stained floors, clear signs of water damage, and an empty restaurant set the tone for what I was getting into quickly. I ordered the French breakfast, a $12 meal with eggs, sausage, croissant, and a potato galette. Looking at my late it was clear not a single one of these items listed were made from scratch. the flavorless eggs were clearly powdered eggs, the bland paper-thin sausage patty reheated from a frozen bag, and the croissant was the equivalent of one you would have at Sams club. I was given complementary "bread" that had the distinct taste of plastic. So far this has been one of the worst meals I have had, you are truly better off eating dinning somewhere else. overall, it was clear La Madeleine is well past its golden years and is yet another failing cafe to be closed in a few years if no changes are made. read more

I was expecting light flaky layers of Filo dough with a custardy layer and delicate frosting. What I got instead was a soggy, sticky, gloppy mass that looked like a napoleon but was impossible to eat. The knife and fork wouldn't cut through it--the layers of Filo were the consistency of wet cardboard. If you download their app, you can occasionally get special deals. That was the case today. I found $5 off waiting for me, which I used towards the French Country Breakfast. Some of my favorite things to get include the quiche, croissants, potato soup, chicken salad, pasta salad, green salads, and bread. I've had mixed opinions about the crepes, croque monsieur, chicken friande,, and basic sandwiches. Their tomato basil soup is supposed to be a signature item, but I didn't find it that special. The tuna salad and vegetable soup should be skipped. We went back a few times, hoping it would survive the Covid loss and get back on its feet, but sadly, it has not. Too many changes and not for the better. You know how to say horrible service in French? It is service horrible. No matter how you flip the words it remains the same and accurate front and backwards. This place is one that I would not recommend to anyone. I am not making excuses because there are none to make. No it was not crowded. No it was it short staffed. No I will not be going back. At this point with so many places closing a business establishment has to get it right on the first shot. Upon entering the place, it is a bit confusing as to where to go as a few people were waiting. Some for to go orders, some waiting to sit down, and some curious as to WTH is going on. I was asked if I was waiting in line and where to go by a customer who came in so it was not just me. Finally, someone at the one register that was open came forward and I asked her do I place an order here or go sit down at one of the tables. She passes me off to another guy who comes over to the register to assist me. Huh? If you cannot help why did you come to the register? Who I believed to be the manager in the red shirt (24APR @ 1115) was really into making coffee because as his team was falling behind not once did he looked up to come over and assist as the line was growing. So I and my guest finally placed my order and given a number to go to an open table. Even though none of this is my fault apologies to my guest. That took a few tries as the tables were not wiped off. Ok the food. I went with a French dip. Now how do you order a French dip and no au jus comes with it? The only dip that was happening was my head in disbelief to what I have seen so far here. I finally got the attention of the person who brought me my food once he came back around and asked for the au jus. Once again attention to detail was lacking or just not paying attention at all as I still saw people coming in with no direction or anyone available to take their orders at an empty register. The food was just ok and the sandwich comes with some potato chips. Yeah potato chips and no they were not house made. Once again apologies for my guest. The food they ordered came out cold. This was made aware to the server and he took the plate and put it on the table next to us. It just sat there. Finally, the remade food came out and it was barely warm. The bacon was as cold as the first order. I said is this the bacon from the first time. Of course it is not that bacon from before because it is still sitting on the table next to us with the rest of the food. There is a survey that I took offered after your meal I hope that they actually pay attention to. There is not much that really says French in this place. It is interesting that the "Guest Relations" reply to Yelp reviews starts off with Bonjour but maybe that is something you can greet your customers with when they walk in. Please save your time and money. I've been a Reward member for years. Every month you receive a reward... NOT! The reward for July was $3.00 off a $10.00 order. I placed an order for their salad sampler but it was on sale so I ordered a beverage, which I didn't want but with $3.00 off, it made the order $7.00. Or so I thought. I asked the girl if my order totaled $10.00. She responded, "Yes. It's $10.21." I didn't look at my receipt until I got home. Because the order was only $9.99 before sales tax, it did not give me my reward! I then left Austin for the summer to get out of the heat and will not return until October. I called Customer Service and was told they would put the $3.00 reward on my card which would expire on August 1. I explained I wouldn't be in Austin until October and there aren't any La Madeleine restaurants in the state I'm in. I asked if the reward could be extended to October and she said no, they couldn't do that. She apologized that they couldn't reimburse me and she was sorry for my inconvenience. I explained that it was more than an inconvenience. It was theft. They stole $3.00 from me as I would've never purchased a beverage had I known I wouldn't have been reimbursed. So I've ordered twice from this location through the Grubhub delivery service. The first time I ordered they forgot to put my lemon tart in the bag and I am currently waiting to get reimbursed. I ordered again today because I liked their Chocolate Croissants. This time I order a FULL ham & cheese croissant sandwich.
