The restaurant was not at all crowded, which was a bit surprising since other times it's been sooo full... we noticed the floor was very sticky by our table- the table was a bit sticky too, so they cleaned it again and were given the menus. New items! How exciting: I had not been here for a couple of months. This time I decided to try their matcha- it comes topped with a chocolate pistachios cream (this was a bit too much for me, my daughter liked it) and the matcha was also too sweet for me, but very flavorful. For our main dish I ordered the shrimp and grits, and my daughter ordered biscuits and gravy. My dish had 4 small shrimp (which I ate) a lot of anduille sausage bits, and a lot of flavorful sauce over these soupy cheesy grits that was not what I expected. It was served as a "soup" with a spoon. There was some toasted bread on the side of the bowl. While everything was very flavorful, I did not like the soupy consistence, it was unexpected for me. My daughter's biscuits and gravy, on the other hand, needed more gravy... she liked the dish but she felt her gravy was too little for the serving. Then she also ordered a half order (1) pancake with cinamon roll French toast and we took that home. It had good flavor! Went here for Sunday brunch around 1:30 PM after seeing great Google reviews, and it did not disappoint. The manager welcomed us with a huge smile, got us seated warmly, and even surprised us with fresh, warm beignets for our first visit. Such a lovely touch! We walked into the restaurant and the greeter told us that we would be seated in 10-20 minutes. We sat for over 40 minutes watching people sit and walk by us. I walked up to the greeter and she somehow couldn't find my name on the list even though she typed my information in front of us. I had some visitors in town and food/cuisine wise they could be hard to shop for, so to speak. However, I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't like a big hearty 'MERICAN style breakfast. Another Broken Egg Cafe was a bit far out but decided it was worth it with all the positive reviews. We chose to sit inside-just to bright and sunny out and we had a fairly mixed group, seniors to littluns. Our server was great, waiting patiently with both the kiddos as well as the non-English speakers. I went with the Shrimp and Grits because it's not something you see super often. It was a hearty meal, with a good amount of shrimp, seasoned right, a little on the mild side spice wise but that was easily remedied. Just moved to Austin and my fiance and I tried this place one Saturday morning. The cold brew is delicious and so are the French toast and the pancakes. My favorite is the mocha cold brew and the peach French toast. My fiancé loved his food. Service was fantastic and the atmosphere felt homey without doing too much. We also had the cinnamon roll pancake and it was good and moist (these had more toppings and made/cooked differently than the Bourbon Street ones, see pics) . This was unexpectedly bad. Started with "wait to be seated" with obvious emphasis on waiting. Half empty place, we stayed by the entrance for 6 min until an associate decided to pay attention to us. Forget about a customary "I am sorry for the wait", not even a smile or any sort of acknowledgment, just a dry "table for two?". O let was not bad however the sausage was obviously from a Costco sale. Potatoes were soft and dripping oil. Service and atmosphere was great the moment we walked in! Host was sweet and Suzi was super sweet! Food came out quick, she was very attentive and kind to give us beignets as first time customers which were delicious! Especially the marmalade. We ordered the Lobster and Brie omlette along with Smoke Salmon Benedict. Both were a bit on the salty side for us, but overall cooked very well. Went here for breakfast and cup of joe, and got impressed with their great coffee and somehow the Bloody Mary got me at "bacon & olives" so it turned out to be a Great morning after all. The foods are delis, tasty and well presented. The beignets are light and fluffy and perfectly well paired with the jams (not as great as in New Orleans, but good enough) with coffee and the Bloody Mary. I went here for the first time surprised that I hadn't been yet. The menu is full and everything looks so good. I already knew I wanted the Bourbon Street Pancakes before I arrived. I love bananas and pecans on/in my pancakes so the added rum sauce was a bonus. Unfortunately, it was all way too sweet. It came with a side of meat and eggs which was nice. I don't eat pork, or chicken and those were the only options for a meat side with the meal so that's strike one. Where's the turkey bacon or sausage for a healthier option? I was brunching with 5 other ladies and everyone's food looked great when it came out. The biscuit beneigts that were ordered for the table were the best thing I tasted in my whole meal. I wasn't impressed with the mocktail I ordered because it tasted mostly like soda instead of the pineapple juice and other ingredients that were supposed to be in it. As for service... Several of the drink orders we made came out after our food because "the bartender was backed up". And a couple of food items were also late. We had to ask about things that had not been served yet instead of being notified that there was a delay. The server we had was really nice and doing his best because I think he said it was only his second day. So there's some grace there. We sat outside and most of the meal there were wasps visiting our table being a nuisance. We thought they were bees at first which would have been okay but once we realized they were wasps it spoiled the mood with everyone being fearful of being stung. I spent $30 on food, drink and tip for a meal that was less than great. So glad that the company of the ladies I was with made the overall experience a good one. Austin has collectively awesome customer service in its restaurants which is often warm, friendly, super helpful, inviting and just delightful. This café just did not have happy vibes and did not feel particularly welcoming. The hostess was not warm and welcoming, and it just wasn't very enjoyable interacting with service staff. The food and coffee were fine. Nothing to write Home over and expensive for what it is. It's very busy, even on a Thursday morning, so it clearly has a strong following. However, we will not be returning or recommending it to friends. Galaxy Café down the road or El Dorado are much more satisfying breakfast experiences. read more

Came here for an early brunch with two girlfriends. Always be prepared for a wait when you arrive because they are always busy! We ordered the blueberry lemonade mimosa as it was perfect for spring time! The carafe is small though and not enough to share between even two people (one of us doesn't drink) not worth the money as it does not come filled to the top. I do think getting one or two drinks on your own will give you what you need. My food was hot and fresh! The potatoes were fried to perfection and the beignets were the best part! Like many brunch spots, drip coffee is unreasonably priced here. It's somewhere around 5-6 dollars for a cup of Folger's. The server was well-intentioned, but a bit aggressive.
