Perfect Birthday Celebration at Roaring Fork! On Sunday I celebrated my birthday at Roaring Fork with my family, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding, and the view overlooking the quarry made the evening even more special. One of our favorite perks was that Happy Hour is available all day on Sundays. We started with a traditional margarita, a mango margarita, and a few mocktails, all of which were excellent. For appetizers, we shared the shrimp cocktail, fresh guacamole, and chicken flatbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and a great way to begin the meal. For our entrées, I ordered the cedar-planked salmon with miso soy glaze, and it was absolutely delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked and practically melted in my mouth. My partner enjoyed the same dish and loved it as well. My youngest daughter ordered the New York strip steak with mashed potatoes, her boyfriend chose the ribeye steak with French fries (they definitely have expensive taste!), and my other daughter had the grilled rainbow trout. Every dish was beautifully prepared and thoroughly enjoyed. The red wine paired perfectly with our meal, and the staff graciously allowed us to bring a birthday cake, which made the celebration even more memorable. Between the exceptional food, beautiful atmosphere, great drinks, and attentive service, it was the perfect birthday celebration. I was driving north to meet a friend for Pumpkin Nights. My plan was to go to the domain and walk around and window shop. The traffic on Mopac was "traffic on Mopac" so I was on the frontage road. I took a wrong turn and it spit me out right near the Roaring Fork. I took it as a sign and came into the bar. It is beautiful patio weather. I need to get back up here again and hit up the patio with some friends soon. The bartenders were friendly. They were busy! There were plenty of seats at the bar but the bar area was pretty full. I wish I had snapped a pic of the HH menu. Sorryyyyy folks. ;) I got the BIG ASS BURGER ($17 on the HH menu) which never disappoints. The fries were perfectly crisp and the burger was cooked to my liking- medium rare. Is there any other way to have a burger? Don't answer that - the answer is no. ;) I live south so I don't get up here that often. I'll have to make more of an effort and fight traffic to venture out more often. More and more, going out to eat in the U.S. has been a disappointing, underwhelming experience. I understand that time is money and that waiters and waitresses are working for their tips, but it truly sucks that it has become so difficult to actually enjoy your time in a restaurant, to just sit and relax without feeling this underlying rush. It's something that seems perfectly possible in pretty much every other country but the U.S. The moment you sit down, the waiter asks what they can get for you. They handed you the menu three seconds ago. There was absolutely no time to glance through it, evaluate your options, or discuss them with whoever you're sharing the table with. This happened at Roaring Fork, but it also happens 95% of the time I go out to dinner. Then the food comes, you eat, say no to dessert, and voilà: the check is waiting for you! Again, you can't just sit back and relax, take your time deciding whether you want dessert, maybe order a coffee or another drink. They want you out of there ASAP, and somehow you're still expected to tip 20%, which is ludicrous, but this is another conversation. Now, specifically regarding Roaring Fork, I do wonder what actually constitutes a "fancy" place. What is it? The view of the lake isn't exactly impressive. The inside is cute. Does having a cute interior make a place fancy, is that it? Or is it the high-priced menu? There's no bread offered at the table, nothing particularly special. I am genuinely lost when it comes to what makes a place "nice" these days. read more

Famished with a friend and Thursday night seemed far from being a Friday lol. So we celebrated surviving Friday Eve. green cheese (I forgot what it's called) and shrimp cocktail were wonderful. We had pumpkin soup and chicken tortilla soup (it was on the saltier side). Our main dish was ribeye steak and ahi tuna both excellent! What a sweet unplanned dinner. My husband and I try to keep a standing Friday night date night, but sometimes...life happens. So, this week, we moved things to Sunday and ended up at Roaring Fork. From the moment you walk in, the place pulls you in...the open kitchen off to the left, the smell of food drifting through the entryway. It immediately feels warm and inviting. The dim lighting paired with big glass windows gives it that cozy, romantic vibe. If the weather cooperates, the patio overlooking Quarry Lake can be ideal, but it was way too hot for that, so we happily stayed inside with AC. I also love that this is one of those places where you can show up however you feel. We kept it casual, but you wouldn't feel out of place dressed up for a special occasion either. It strikes a nice balance...comfortable but still special enough for a date night. Our server, John, came by right away with water and menus and offered a few recommendations, which we appreciated. He was clearly covering a large section, so service wasn't super attentive, but he was doing his best and stayed friendly throughout. As for the food, my husband went with the burger and fries while I ordered the chicken with asparagus and mashed potatoes. One of my all-time favorite places for the green chili pork and scenery!! I knocked off a star for the happy hour steak sliders. They really need to do better. I almost had them take it back. Overcooked well-done chewy meat when I asked for medium. Plus there was hardly anything under that bun. Our bartenders were fantastic though... that's a tough job!! My dirty martini was outstanding. I'll do the truffle fries or pork next time I guess. I was very disappointed in my meal, but the service and surrounding beauty made it worth it and I'll continue coming here because of that. read more

While in town for work I was looking for something close to the hotel for colleagues and I to grab dinner and came across Roaring Fork. Easily booked a reservation and was able to request seating on the patio overlooking the lake! The decor and overall vibe is extremely welcoming and several guests took advantage of the photo ops with the lake background. One colleague had the Huckleberry Bramble and we shared Shrimp Cocktail...the sauce wasn't quite atomic, could use more horseradish (my palate may be spoilt by St Elmo's). Both colleagues ordered the Salmon while I opted for the Roasted Duck. There was a significant period of silence when we first sampled our meals soaking in every flavor. We all devoured and commented on the green beans as well! I tried the Pecan Pie for dessert and it was outstanding and very rich! After a mislead New Year's Eve hiccup, our friends wanted to try this place for a steak dinner so we followed and did not want to dampen their plans. Reservations were for 6:15, arrived on time and table was ready. We ordered cocktails and appetizers then later ordered our entrees. Menu selections are noted with pics provided. Some guests ordered the cornbread and the lamb fondue. It was ok but felt it was a skimpy portion with 3 very small lamb ribs and a very shallow dish of the fondue cheese, it was served with cubes of bread croutons and butternut squash which helped fulfill the starter. The cornbread was served in their small skillet. Husband enjoyed his Waldorf salad with chicken, 2 others had the filet, pork tenderloin and ribeye steak while I had the duck, that I found more on the rare side with too much chewy skin and maybe 4 slices of duck that was chewy and sinewy. The Brussels were good. Our waitstaff was attentive and friendly. Cocktails were ok but I didn't recall happy prices. The bar was very busy that it was difficult to get their attention. Overall experience was good, I may have made the wrong entree choice. I'm not sure we'd be back and if so, I'd stick with their big ass burger which is what I'm familiar with and know it's good. read more

Great happy hour great staff great good. Our server William was awesome! We sat in the bar area do happy hour. We got the brisket slider (my fav) come with a side of horseradish sauce (all it needs is Au jus! ha) green chili pork queso, and stuffed jalapeños. Oh and also the big ass burger which is exactly that! And delicious! We visit here a few times a year and need to visit a few times more. It's a reasonably priced steakhouse that backs to Quarry lake so there is a little view of the water. You don't feel like you're in the hustle and bustle of the city there. Great burger and pretty views of a lake from the restaurant. No side substitutes allowed with the burger which is a bummer. Salads seem overpriced but the burger is one of the best gourmet burgers in town which is what we go for. Slow service on a Tuesday night, and the outside view is a bit of a joke: ugly cedars and hospital-white landscape lighting after sunset. The best thing was undoubtedly the steak's wood-fired flavor, which isn't something you can get at other run-of-the-mill steakhouses. Roaring Fork does have two locations - one located in downtown Austin and this R.F., located in N. Austin on Stonelake Blvd. I've been to both locations and would recommend both locations but this RF location has the added benefit of having a private parking lot. My most recent visit to RF was on Thursday, 08/07/2025 to celebrate my hubby's 45th birthday & to enjoy Happy Hour...we had such a great experience! Happy Hour is 4pm-6:30pm (bar and lounge area only) & the menu does have plenty of options for both food and drinks ( see pic of HH menu included w/ this review) - I highly recommend the Frozen margarita ($8 HH - does have enough alcohol to make you feel a little bit prettier ;)), the fresh guacamole, and/or the queso con Puerco (portion is enough for 2 ppl) but honestly, you really can't go wrong w/ any of the food options. Since it was my hubby's birthday, he was able to get any dessert free of charge..he got the seasonal dessert (see pic of this chocolate goodness) & I ordered the pecan pie w/ butter pecan ice cream - very tasty! Y'all! Let's go ahead and talk about the Roaring Fork saving Valentine's date night. So while I was getting ready for a romantic dinner with my man, He calls me and says that there was an issue with his original plan and we needed to pick a new spot. I would have been happy just staying home and cooking and spending quality time but he wanted to take me to dinner.Ok, sir. So I checked the Open table app for available reservations (I was not very hopeful with it already being 7:30 p.m. on Valentine's Day) and then I noticed that the Roaring Fork had about eight spots left for either in the bar or outside patio dining. I just picked outside for a 9:15 resy and we headed that way. It was a bit chilly out so when we got there to check-in I asked if there was any availability indoors and the hostess was the sweetest, She looked at me and smiled and said, You are in luck because I have one I can give you now In the main dining area. I was beyond happy! The manager even walked us to the table, he handed me a rose and I just kept saying, "thank you so much." We started with a Malbec wine, shrimp cocktail, skillet cornbread and market salad. Everything was absolutely delicious! Our main courses were the roasted chicken and the pork chop. I think that roast a chicken is one of my new favorite dishes of all time! The server team was super attentive, kept water tapped off, food came out on time not on top of each other. What went well? EVERYTHING. TL;DR, come here. The pleasant young lady who took my last-minute reservation over the phone was quite helpful. Our server, Sarah, was the absolute best. Warm, engaging, knowledgeable. She thoughtfully considered my preferences and offered a few irresistible options, She got the chef to weigh-in on a drink pairing I was debating. I chose from the daily specials menu: Veracruz snapper and a sauvignon blanc. Finished with the most luxurious chocolate torte and an espresso for dessert. It was a flawless meal. What a perfectly delightful hour and a half spent with my daughter in a gorgeous space, with beautiful food, and sunset-over-the-water views. I really want to see more from Roaring Fork. I think the way they cooked their meats was absolutely perfect and the portion sizes were huge but a lot of the dishes were lacking depth of flavor. I got the duck breast on brussel sprouts with balsamic glaze. The duck was juicy and cooked exactly how I asked but overall, it didn't wow me. I know Roaring Fork has a big reputation and it didn't live up to that for me food wise. It didn't however for the service which was great because he matched our energy and the ambiance was beautiful and luxurious. Of course prices these days are through the roof, particularly in Austin but even with that, they were competitive and had superior food, large portions , great ambience and friendly food service. The 20oz steaks were well seasoned (I'm a big guy and only ate alittle over a half), others said trout, tuna was great and can attest to appetizers (bacon poppers), sides (mashed potatoes, asparagus and broccolini ) . If you're going out and going to spend several hundred on a meal (4 of us) recommend! You will get good sizes and solid quality. read more

I was invited to a work dinner here and was not disappointed! The appetizers we had (queso, lamb + fondue, and the truffle fries) were all really good. My meal was the ahi tuna and it was equally delicious. I got a frozen marg which was also good (strong!) and helped me cool off on the patio. We were originally seated at a table, but we asked to be moved to a booth and they were happy to accommodate us. Our server was very kind and was attentive to our needs. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and guacamole as an appetizer. For dinner my husband ordered these spit roasted chicken, and I had the cedar plain salmon. Both dishes were delicious and filling. Came here Saturday night with reservations. The place was hoppin, and it smelled fantastic as we walked in. We sat outside and they had an industrial sized fan providing a breeze. The fan worked because none of us were bitten by squitos.. Our table ordered the rotisserie chicken and the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. The chicken was fantastic, and even though we would have preferred mashies , the rice was very good as well. My pork tenderloin was a good size but it was lacking in a lot of flavor. It was atop sort polenta which was nice. I think I ordered the wrong entree and will try again at a later date. We did order the corn bread as an appetizer and that was a big disappointment. I'm not from Austin, but my dad lives there and I decided to take him out to a nice dinner for his birthday. I found Roaring Fork online and made a reservation for 6 PM on a Saturday. I actually was running a little behind about 10 minutes and I called them and they were so sweet about accommodating me and letting me know that my table would still be available. We got there just about 10 minutes after my original reservation and we were sat down promptly the waitress gave us amazing service The food was amazing and the view from the dining room is beautiful overseen a small lake that we found out was made due to a quarry accident. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting somewhere that was not too expensive but still a wonderful atmosphere and I actually would love to go back here soon. read more

Unfortunately I did not get many pictures of my experience because I was too enamored with my meal to pull out my phone. The food--from appetizers to dessert to drinks--was amazing. Rich, flavorful, filling, it was worth the price. The other aspect that made this meal was the service and management. Staff is friendly and engaging, I came here with family from out of town and Lance truly made everyone feel seen and satisfied with what they ordered. Very pretty view as well, porch is quite scenic, and for coming during memorial day weekend, the atmosphere was pleasant and not once did I feel overcrowded. The appetizers consisted of GRILLED FOCACCIA which was delicious as was the skillet cornbread. Throughly enjoyed the shrimp ceviche. Most everyone had steaks and loved them. From the filets to porterhouse they were cooked perfectly.....warning there is a thick coating on the steaks and it was new to me. Not like a seasoning but more like a brine or sauce. Starting with service: we cannot say more great things about the wait staff and managers. We had a billing instance the previous time we went, and called them about it. They promised to make it up to us the next time that we dined there. Managers Ben & Eric not only kept their promise but added so much free stuff that we were embarrassed! Of course, the food is great, which is why go every few months. We particularly like the Cedar plank Salmon with Asian glaze, the Big As Burger with Parmesan Fries, Pork Chop, Roasted Chicken with homemade dressing and Pork Tenderloin. We went for happy hour on Sunday. We were pleasantly surprised to find out it's happy hour all day! We were quickly sit down in the bar area and had an amazing wait staff. They also have great seating outside that overlooks the lake but we were also watch wanting to watch the football game. The Frozen Margaritas for happy hour were excellent! They are very thick and very cold so watch out for a brain freeze. The fish taco was excellent and I loved the sauce that came with it. You can't go wrong with the double dip! The green chili pork has a lot of flavor and the pork is nice and tender. We also had a side of fries that we used for the queso instead of the chips: highly recommend! We also ordered the Big Burger but we're too full by the time we got to it. It did look a nice size for the price. This place gets busy and reservations are hard to get the day off so you definitely have to plan to go here in advance. We got here and were seated outside on the happy house porch. It had a great view of the river and with the sun setting it is really pretty to be there. The food was awesome, I had no complaints with any of the courses. The steak was cooked perfectly, Queso had a ton of flavor, and the huckleberry cheesecake was absolutely delicious.
