What do you call a hidden gem that everyone knows? Corner Cottage. In another timeline, it'd be easy to pass by this small, beige building on South Victory Boulevard...but in this timeline, it's 9am on a Saturday and there's a crowd of people outside looking like they're waiting for a Black Friday sale to start. Why are all these people in line? They're waiting for the best breakfast burrito in town. Corner Cottage has many things on the menu from breakfast burritos, burgers, and teriyaki bowls...but everyone comes here for two things: relatively cheap eats and the breakfast burritos. There's nothing extravagant about the burrito...it's not the size of a house or filled with some sacred, organic meat or artisan potatoes. It's just a breakfast burrito...potatoes, eggs, cheese, and a meat of your choice wrapped in a tortilla. The best restaurants are the ones that do simple things the right way. Some might say there's too many potatoes, not enough eggs, needs more cheese, etc, but to me the ratios are perfect. Yes, the burrito is pretty heavy on the potatoes, but the way they're cooked (everything is done on a giant, well-seasoned flat-top grill) makes it great. They're not fried and crispy, they're soft and pillowy. When wrapped together with the other stuff, it's almost like a mashed potato quality and texture. Could it use more egg, maybe, but you get just enough scrambled eggs and cheese nestled between the layers of potato. The meat options vary from ham, bacon, sausage, and/or steak. Ham is OK, smoky and thin sliced ham you'd expect in an omelette or a sandwich. The bacon is crumbled to bits so you get it pretty dispersed throughout the burrito, but you never get that crunch or chew from a bigger piece. I've never had the steak, since I always get the sausage burrito. It's the best one since it's chopped up sausage links chunked throughout the burrito. It tastes very similar to the Farmer John's breakfast sausages you'd grow up with living in Los Angeles. The best feature of the burrito is what separates theirs from the rest and it's the salsa. At first you scoff at the idea that a tiny cup is all you get...but then you realize that a little bit goes a long way. You can get the salsa in the burrito or on the side. If you don't like spice, omit it or get it on the side. I always get it on the side (and maybe ask for extra) so I can spoon it on when I want. Again, the salsa isn't anything crazy...it's just a pico de gallo with either jalapenos or serranos, chopped into an oblivion. The flavors are nothing simple though...it's spicy, sour, salty, tangy, zesty...it makes the burrito, it makes you want to take another bite. Everything is cooked to order which is the biggest and only downside of this place...you might have to wait a while. On a Saturday morning I've waited around an hour for one breakfast burrito due to the line down the block and the waiting time, but it's absolutely worth it. On a weekday morning, the wait can be a bit more manageable if you show up early. The burrito will set you back 8 or 9 bucks give or take. The prices have gone up over the past couple of years, but to get a burrito this good for under 10 bucks is kinda crazy. It's 11 with a small coffee. There are other places that serve crappy breakfast burritos for way more. A double cheeseburger combo with fries and a drink is also 11 bucks. The burgers are around 5 bucks...I wanna say a teriyaki bowl is 5 or 6? If you're looking for cheap, good eats, this is the place to go. Over the years the other things that make this place special are the people behind the counter. The family that used to run it was so nice and clearly cared about the community they were serving. This year, they sold the business to a new family and they're carrying on those traditions. The quality of their product is the same, which makes sense since I recognize all the cooks to be same from all these years. I did notice little flourishes of modernization the last time I came in. They finally got some new fridges and a coffee maker. They have a computer ticket system versus hand written orders. The only thing that hasn't changed, this place is still cash only, but it's literally only a small price to pay to get a classic meal. read more

A couple days ago I did a uber eats super hungry as I was on my way to Burbank airport. To my surprise- my order came and I was not happy. I ordered a steak burrito with no egg & crispy potatoes. I also ordered a side of onion rings. The onion rings came with only 6 and my burrito was full with just soft bland potatoes. I called immediately and explained over the phone about the issue and the man said " so sorry and bring it when you can and we will remake it" I stored it in my fridge and now since I'm back in town I came ( Thursday May 22nd) and the rude owner at the counter started argue with me that I needed to bring it same day. I told him that it was not what he said over the phone. Instead of just remaking my burrito, he argued with me in front of other guests and kept misinforming me about a miscommunication on his end. Instead of helping the customer; he refused and kept arguing and saying " I'm the owner" I'm the owner" wth? What kind of customer service is that. So rude and unprofessional. I told him he should have said the truth in our phone call and I specifically told him I wouldn't be back in town until days later. Why would I hold onto a potato burrito in my fridge that long? Went on Mother's Day they were absolutely slammed but everyone was working at double speed to get orders out and owner/ manager was keeping people up to speed on order status and checking on and taking orders . They were still friendly and took time to wish the moms happy Mother's Day . Yes there was a wait but actually pretty spot on to when they said it would be ready online . I was just early . Really bums me out to write this review, but this used to be such a great a spot for breakfast burritos. Used to go multiple times a week, but it's gone so downhill. The burritos have gotten significantly smaller and they're literally just filled with undercooked potato now. Ratio to egg/meat is such a joke. No matter how you modify it when ordering, (crispy etc.) it's always the same thing. A log of undercooked potato. So bland, I didn't even want to finish it the last time. I tried the steak breakfast burrito with crispy potatoes, but the steak lacked flavor, seasoning, and seemed like a lower quality cut. The burrito was overwhelmed by what tasted like mashed potatoes rather than the "crispy" ones advertised. The tortilla was average at best. I also ordered the bacon breakfast burrito with sausage and extra cheese. The sausage had a decent flavor, but again, the texture and amount of potato inside made it hard to enjoy. It's the second time come here for a breakfast burrito. I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito. It's a very good sized for the price. The one I ordered had eggs, bacon and potato. They give you a spicy sauce on the side that is very good. This place is consistently busy. You order up front and have to wait about 15 minutes or more if there's a lot of people. Cash only! A fantastic burrito!!! If you're looking for one of the best burritos, this is the place. I got the steak and have had the sausage and both were delicious. My favorite part of the burrito is the potatoes that they grill on the grill top so it gets a nice crunch. My second favorite part is the salsa, which is amazingly spicy and a perfect compliment. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is that both times I've been here has been more than a 45 minute wait. While the burrito was amazing, I don't know if I would ever wait this long for a burrito. Maybe it'll be worth it if you do something while you wait, but just sitting there and waiting didn't feel worth it to me. read more

I'm not from the area but was craving a breakfast burrito before my flight. This place hit the spot. The bacon burrito was delicious!! I loved their crunchy thin bacon. I didn't add salsa to my burrito, but I wish I did1 -I guess it's really good. They only take cash, but you are able to scan a QR code and order/pay online if you walk and do not have cash on you. The service was super friendly and fast. I wish we had something like this in the bay area where I live. I also overheard one of the workers is telling a customer that they are thinking about opening on Sundays now. I think this is my first serious negative yelp because I just had to. First time going, heard someone on tik-tok recommend it. Wow wtf! First impression, you walk through the door and it feels like you're walking into a sauna. The heat bitch slaps you like BLWOW!! It was intense, The boss is clearly an asshole, not having air-conditioning for those poor workers, I even recommended They put some window tint on the windows as it was bare with no blinds, it was ridiculous in there.. and it was only in the 80s outside. I could not imagine what it's like in the 90s and 100s.. second, we didn't know, but it was cash only, so we had to re-order on a digital pad so we could pay credit card, the boss doesn't even have a credit card reader. After finally placing our breakfast burrito, 1 hash brown, and steak sandwich order, we waited outside for more than 30 minutes, we thought we heard our name called, but as they don't have a intercom, we weren't sure so had to continually bother the guy inside., and then the food finally came, and it was pathetic, I should've taken a picture of my lack of steak sandwich, and my friend's burrito was very very sad, it look like an eight year-old, made it, and forgot half the ingredients, I give them one star only because when we re-ordered on the fucking machine, my friend forgot to get my drink, so when we got our food, the guy gave me one drink, free, other than that there is no way in hell I would ever go back to that hell shack. This is one of my favorite breakfast burrito spots in the neighborhood. I always order the bacon breakfast burrito, which is so good with their homemade salsa. You must get here early because they open at 7 am and stop serving breakfast at 11 am, and it gets super busy during these times, especially Saturday mornings. They have ample parking available. They have limited inside and outside seating areas. The place is relatively small but gets a good amount of people. Be prepared to wait a bit for your order. I lived around the corner from The Corner Cottage when it originally opened and have always loved it. Then I came back 2 weeks ago to get lunch. Hadn't been here since the new owners took over. I ordered a chicken burrito and my mom got a cheeseburger. Also got a carne asada burrito for my husband. Wait time was a little long so I was hungry when I finally got the food. That was the worst burrito I've ever eaten. I could only finish half. It tasted like there was cheese wiz instead of shredded cheese. Also the burrito had no flavor. My mother's cheeseburger was terrible as well. The bun was over toasted and the hamburger was dry. My husband's burrito barely had any meat in it! I will not ever be coming back here! I called to place an order shortly after they opened, and my order was ready for pick up in minutes. Fresh and good ingredients. I got the sausage and bacon burrito. the burrito was on point. Good portion, well balanced, perfect amount of meat ( not over whelming ), I like the hash browns which were perfectly seasoned ( slightly resembling mash potatoes in taste), the cheese they used paired well with the eggs. The salsa was freshly made, very refreshing, slightly too spicy for me, but it was delicious none the less. In my opinion the food is great . Note: Since this place gets very busy, during rush, food quality could vary. ( according to other reviews ). Personally I had a great experience, I really enjoyed my burrito and will be returning. My wife and I have been coming here for many years, but unfortunately after today it will be the last. I overheard throughout social media that there are new owners and things are little different, at first I was giving them the benefit of the doubt but Oo man they were right.
