I wanted so much to like their food but it fell short. It was an interesting eclectic place, located in a mini mall where they take up 3/4th of the space. It's a very well stocked liquor store, a deli and a grill. I ordered one fish and chips, plus one order including shrimp and onion rings to go.I called the at 1:30pm and got there after 2:00pm, the traffic was horrendous (what's new?) When we opened to boxes, they looked very good with a nice amount of fish. The first thing is that there was no seasoning NONE on anything! The crunch was promising but they were overcooked lending them a jerky texture. The chips (fries) were fluffy and nicely made but NO salt. The whole meal was barely warm.I even put them in the trunk of my car to keep them so. This was disappointing but I feel there is great potential, as the quality seems good. If there is a next time, I will not order in advance and watch them being cooked. It turned out that the food was placed under heating lamp, they probably made the meals when I called it in. I specifically told them that I would be arriving around 2:00 pm. I hope they read this and do something about the seasoning!

Someone told me abput this spot in a liqour store and let me tell you the smells af pastramis, breakfast burrritos cooking on the grill, i had the bacon breakfasy burrito and i had really good flavors there pptatoes actually had seasoning and a complimentary salsa had both red and green, reallt good and good price, also the customer service was nice Will come back and try that pastrami that was calling me LOL

Cheese Steak Sandwich. Has thousand island dressing on the bottom. Very good!

Willie's Grill & Deli is inside the Alameda Liquor store. The sign outside the just reads " Grill & Deli", perhaps Willie left the building? The outside sign use to read Willie's Grill/Fish n Chips for the longest time. I stopped by to try the deli and grill, but can't help notice inside that this is a great liquor store full of spirits, wine, beer, any beverages or snacks you can think of; HUGE selections! Clean aisles. The Grill and Deli has limited hours. I tried: The fish and chips were awful! Chewy, fishy, and overcooked with no seasoning. Skip! Their version of "cheesesteak" comes with peppers, onions, provolone, and thousand island dressing on a French roll. Made to order with good quality meat. Very good! Fresh. I would definitely come back here for the deli and grill, just NOT for fish and chips!

Affordable good budget eats. I was pleased for the price we paid. Clean, classy and legit sandwich. Cant go wrong!

Located inside Alameda Liquor Store, this deli is great for your cravings from burgers to cold cuts, hot sandwiches (cheesesteak sandwich) to Mexican food. 2 tables to dine in or you can take it to go. Cheesesteak sandwich was good but could use a little bit more salt. Same with the Santa Fe sandwich. The Asada fries were ok but again lacked flavor. The prices are a little high but freshly made food is always better. Nice and quiet. If you do decide to eat there.

Breakfast burrito with bacon and chorizo.

I've lived around the block from here 15 years and today was only the second time eating from here. This go round I tried one of the breakfast burritos. It did not disappoint. Good size, hearty and delicious. Will try a different meat combination next time.

I decided to build my own hot sandwich and went with the XL size since I planned on sharing it. For the price, I thought it was a great value! The sandwich was absolutely stuffed with ingredients and definitely filling. I got Dutch Crunch bread with seasoned avocado spread, oven-roasted turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, sprouts, and cucumbers. Everything came together really well and I loved how generous they were with the fillings. The XL size was definitely worth it. I may have just found my new favorite sandwich spot and already looking forward to coming back and trying another combination. Parking can be a little tricky around lunchtime. I had to drive around for a bit before finding a spot in the residential area across the street, so keep that in mind when planning your visit. Overall, a great first experience with a generously portioned sandwich and good value for the price.

My food was ready when I arrived so it was a quick in and out. My kid and I loved the Howdy. We each ate one half. I didn't like the Melrose. It was just too salty. That's where I deducted 1.5 stars. Portion size was on the smaller size. Their large is not a large. Probably more like a medium. Definitely smaller than Capriotti large. Gotta try the other sandos but Melrose was a huge miss. Really disappointed as it was their most popular sando. So I'm rounding up from 3.5 stars.

I also finished watching The Sopranos and well I did want to try "Gabagool" and see why it seemed like everyone on the show went crazy for it. So, I looked up the menu, and saw you can build your own sandwich, and I went for Capicola, Provolone, and pepperchinis. Along with tomatoes and other things. Best sandwich I've had in a while. The bread was nice and bouncy. Also, the servers were very friendly. Safe to say, I will be returning here for more awesome sandwiches in the future! :)

While we were waiting, my mom suddenly became very hungry. Both she and I tend to get low blood sugar, so when hunger hits, we usually need to eat something right away. Since the car was being washed, we looked around for a place within walking distance and happened to discover this small Italian deli nearby. They offered sandwiches and pasta dishes. Since both my mom and I love pasta, we decided to have lunch here. We ordered spaghetti with marinara sauce (no meat). When ordering, we were asked whether we wanted penne or spaghetti, and we chose spaghetti. My brother ordered the Eggplant Lasagna. Both dishes came with garlic bread, and the garlic bread was absolutely delicious. The spaghetti was so good, and the Eggplant Lasagna was equally tasty. The restaurant itself was very small, but it felt like discovering a hidden gem. I noticed photos of Hollywood stars displayed on the walls and wondered if they were pictures of celebrities who had visited the restaurant over the years. According to the information displayed inside, the restaurant has been operating since 1971, which explains why it feels like such a long-standing neighborhood favorite. The staff members were all very friendly, and I left an additional cash tip. My mom kindly treated us to lunch today using her credit card, and I am very grateful. There were, however, two downsides to our visit. First, I used the restroom and noticed that it had a bad smell there. Second, after checking in on Yelp, I noticed that the restaurant's posted closing time was 3:00 PM. We arrived around 2:30 PM for a late lunch. My brother was delayed because he had to pick up the car from the car wash and didn't arrive until around 2:45 PM. While we were still eating, one of the staff began putting chairs up and cleaning the dining room. By 3:00 PM, it felt as though they were waiting for customers to leave. The front door was left open, and the atmosphere made us feel somewhat rushed. I asked one of the staff members what time they closed, and he confirmed that they closed at 3:00 PM. We quickly packed up our remaining garlic bread to go and left shortly afterward. On a positive note, when I asked for a to-go box, they were very friendly and carefully packed everything for us. Overall, the food was delicious, and the staff was kind. However, I didn't particularly enjoy having the chairs put away and the dining room cleaned while customers were still eating. It would have been nicer if someone had simply let us know that the restaurant closed at 3:00 PM. We would have gladly finished up and left on our own. Despite that issue, I still enjoyed the food very much and was happy to discover this hidden neighborhood gem. I love Italian food, and I've dined at many upscale Italian restaurants with elegant atmospheres over the years. While this place is small and simple, the food was truly excellent and full of flavor.

I first found out about Handy Market on social media for their weekend BBQ about a month ago. As I had been craving bbq for a couple weeks now, I found today to be the best opportunity to give them a try. I placed an order for pick up the night before. I got kind of carried away with the order, as I wanted to try almost everything on the menu. The prices were absolutely insane! I think I ended up paying about 65 dollars for food that would easily feed me for a good 3 or 4 days. When I arrived to pick up my order at my pick up time, I had noticed my order was being packed. I asked the employees if I can leave my order with them for a bit so that I can pick up some meat inside the market. They obliged, and I went to the meat counter to order my beef back ribs to cook for tomorrow. For 5 pounds, I ended up paying about $34, which was definitely a bargain. They were also selling breakfast burritos and sandwiches in the store, which I found to be awesome. I took everything home and opened my bag of spoils. After I took everything out, I statted thinking of what I wanted to eat first and what I wanted to save for later. It was so much food that I thought I could feed an entire army. Definitely will be back for the breakfast burritos and sandwiches, and for the meats again, for sure!

As a loyal customer of this establishment for over two decades, I have consistently visited the…read moredeli and meats department at least once a month. However, I am compelled to rate this establishment one star due to a particularly unpleasant experience with a female deli employee whose first name begins with the letter "J." Despite my frequent visits, the overall customer service in the deli and meats department has declined. The season butchers have been replaced with individuals lacking the necessary experience and customer courtesy that were previously present. Over the past three months, I have encountered the same issues with this particular employee. It is important to note that the fee charged for slicing a Tri Tip into a carton container is not the primary concern. The issue lies in the employee's behavior and attitude, specifically their unwillingness to properly wrap the sliced meat. This has occurred on multiple occasions, most recently at the checkout counter when the cashier pull the foil-wrapped package from the plastic bag causing the juices of the meat to spill all over the counter. This has happened to me every time this employee has served me. The Tri Tip sliced meat is dry and devoid of juices due to this careless employee's failure to wrap the meat carefully. It is imperative that this situation be addressed. Management should provide this employee, "J," with proper training on how to wrap sliced food correctly. Additionally, it is crucial the ambiance that all employees, including the deli and butcher employees, maintain a pleasant and friendly demeanor. A salutation is always appreciated. Despite these concerns, the BBQ remains outstanding as always.

It may just also be my favorite deli in LA for anything vegetable/side dish. As other reviews note, the selection of prepared foods for such a small shop is staggering. I've been coming for three years now, and while I'm guilty of ordering my favorites often, I think I'd have a tough time making my way through all of the foods on offer even if I switched it up on each visit. 4 different types of meatballs (the chicken breast one is to die for), lox, cabbage rolls, at least a half dozen cooked seafood options (shout out fish in tomato sauce), stroganoff, 3-4 different types of couscous and plov....and that's only half of the non veggie section. The cakes are great (Black Forest and walnut go hard). The Russian/Ukranian chip flavors rule. There are specialty candies and jarred foods and good looking fruits and veggies. There's an off menu soup with dill and little chicken meatballs that I'd recommend to anyone ailing in a heartbeat. And then, finally, we arrive at the salads and cold veggies. Nonstop bangers. The beet salad with prunes and garlic may sound wild for non Eastern European tastes, but it's unique and addictive and works. The potato salad Olivier? Best potato salad I've ever had. My wife has recently discovered the zucchini, which looks like a bunch of unassuming diced veggies but tastes savory and complex and herby. You'd be the hero of every picnic or backyard bbq ever grabbing side dishes from here. Seriously. The kind folks who work here will let you sample too, which is helpful when there are so many options. Some places wear their culture on their sleeve, fill your stomach with the love of a home cooked meal, and remind you that diverse communities are the heartbeat of this city. The free parking lot offers nice and ample parking spaces for disabled customers as well as tables upon arrival which can comfortably accommodate wheelchairs. The discounts can be incredible and I appreciate sale-priced groceries in today's economy as well as the opportunity to support local and international farms. Sunflower seeds, sunflower oil, low sugar and no sugar added cookies, pastries and cakes, caviar, dried fish, pickled Herring, perfectly ripe berries, smoked fish, halva, cheese spread, jams, and artisan teas, all five stars. But wait. Is it a Russian-American market where I find the most Ukrainian imported groceries and ways to support Ukrainian farming?! Yep! +Heart hands emoji+ This market does a great job of offering a nice seat and friendly conversation to the average dine-in customer. Stop by to sip on an imported pear juice. Try a bite of fresh cream cheese cake with berries. Ask for advice! Go for the Beef Plav which is an employee favorite. So I'm drinking bone broth, eating extra protein, taking vitamins. And lifting weights with steadfast determination to recover my strength and then some. (Go Navy!) No market has helped me more in this health effort than this hidden gem. (Many thanks!) I am the customer who buys ALL the boxes of pastilla. (SORRY OTHER CUSTOMERS!) Pastilla is a layered pastry made of baked apples and eggs white, no sugar and nothing else! It's a miracle of a snack! Tastes like apple cake, made of egg whites.
