Our first time trying this restaurant. They should change the name to 'The Average Grill'. We ordered a Turkey, Bacon Club with French fries to share. We asked for the bacon and the fries to be well-done - they were not. This is the reason for my review. read more

The ambiance was great. Small restaurant with immediate seating and fantastic music. The food was anything but great. The fried zucchini was a bit overdone. The meatloaf was okay, but the mash potatoes were tasteless. The chicken fried steak was from frozen and, therefore, dry. The fries were seasonsless. The waitress was pleasant, but we did not receive our plates as ordered. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but bottom line a definite skip. read more

On our last night in Burbank, my son and I chose this diner, which was right down the street from our hotel. The ambiance was very retro with Madonna on the Juke box. It was very welcoming! The front doors were open and there was an event down the street, so there was a lot of foot traffic outside, we had the place to ourselves and got top notch service the whole time. I chose a Strawberry Milkshake and a turkey club sandwich with a side salad. I was so incredibly satisfied with my meal, every bite hit perfectly! My son had a steak with veggies and a bowl of soup, he loved every bit as well. This was such a perfect way to end our stay in LA, the food was great, the service was great and the price was reasonable. I am so glad that we decided on the Great Grill and I would definitely go back! Before we left my son performed some magic, his last performance in town, it was a total hit! The service was absolutely amazing! This was not the intended location for us, but as we were walking by the owner was so friendly and chatted us up so we went inside!!! Needed some time to kill before a flight out of BUR airport. We came at around 11, and were seated immediately on New Year Day (yes, they were open!). Obsessed with the decor and I wanted something "novelty" for my son to see before we left so here we were. Great spread for breakfast choices and lunch items. I got an eggs benedict, my son some pancakes, and my 2 cousins got a breakfast burrito and a Reuben sandwich. Everything was yum, and we even got mozzarella sticks to share. Not too expensive either. Booths along the walls, with the little jukebox selection contraption, but we didn't test it to see if it worked. There was an ACTUAL jukebox at the cashier too. Been on this street hundreds of times and never saw their cute theater marquis sign before. ADORABLE 50's like diner (with juke box!) has the NICEST man serving diners. In a part of LA that is filled with great diners, The Great Grill should be considered one of them in my opinion. They specialize in a 1950s retro theme from the music playing to the booths and tables that you are sitting in to all the signage on the wall. I'm already a huge fan of Bob's, Paty's, and a few others in the area and would consider this a solid breakfast option as well. The food was good, but my favorite part of the meal was the price, everything was just fair. Service was quick and all of our food items came out shortly after ordering. They don't have a parking lot attached, but there is a parking garage with the first two hours free directly behind the restaurant. The walking path that is just left of the entrance leads to the parking garage. They have a fairly large menu filled with all sorts of diner classics for both breakfast and lunch or dinner. We stopped in for brunch for our first time so we wanted to do some breakfast items. I chose the Country Breakfast which is a Chicken Fried Steak with eggs and toast and really enjoyed it. I would've liked hashbrowns more than the homefries that they used and also felt that the chicken fried steak was a little too crispy, but it still had somegreat flavors. Overall a really solid and fairly priced retro diner in Burbank. I would suggest to anyone searching for a good breakfast or lunch option where you can listen to the oldies while you dining. read more

Decide it to give it a try, but this place is bad, no customer service, the guy who took our order never came back to ask if we needed it ketchup or hot sauce or refills on coffee, I wasn't able to return the pancakes it was really dry and cold. Definitely not coming back. read more

This little restaurant really gives off Mel's Diner vibes and really throws you back to the 50's. The food was also similar to most dinner spots with choices from all day breakfast to burgers to salads. I went with the super bird. All the flavor was there however I wished it was warm. I mean the bread was toasted and cheese was melted however the turkey was very cold like fresh out of the fridge cold. Maybe that's just how their super bird is and it was my fault for not clarifying. My son ordered boneless wings and they came out still frozen in the middle. Butttt they reheated them and gave us five extra wings.. so that made up for it.. the owners were adorable and very attentive and we would be back.. ohh, I forgot their ranch is amazing also. read more

I have been a patron of this family owned diner for a long time. I have never regretted eating here whether it's dining in, getting take out, or ordering it through a third-party delivery service. The food is very fulfilling and it doesn't make you feel bad after. It's just one of those places that has everything and everything is pretty solid. It's just a much cleaner and more inviting version of any other diner in LA We used to come here with friends 20 some years ago and until today, most of us still continue to support this business. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choices. Underrated waffles. Big portions. The way they grill the breads for the sandwiches. Slept on burgers. She answered "Do we have a kids menu". Brought a root beer instead of coke. Stared at us as we ate. Food came out soon, but it all was sub par. The French dip roll was better than the meat. Fries were probably good an hour before we got there. Dropped in the fryer (maybe third time) right along with the chicken tenders for sure, old grease taste in all the fried food. Wow this place is amazing if you love Americana and diner culture. Interior is amazing! Love how they have a wall-o-matic plays 25 cent for 3 songs. Got the banana split and it was perfect.
