Basecamp opens at 7am with a whole bunch of coffee options. Scouts Honor starts serving at 3pm. Hours are on the door. Seating is lovely outside; it was 84 degrees, mild breeze, there is greenery and shade covering for the outdoor seating. The nice fellow taking orders and pouring beer was helpful. We ordered 1/2 pound of brisket and the sampler special which came two sides and two meats. Our thoughts- go for it. read more

I ordered the explorers plate with the tri-tip and chicken breast along with a side of beans and the cornbread waffle. I came at an off peak time so the food seemed microwaved and most of it had gotten cold midway through the plate. Both the beef and the cornbread were very dry. The slice of bread was a very boring wonder bread style piece. The chicken breast was tender and the vegetables were a nice addition. When Matt and Scouts Honor had its own location in 2021, the brisket and ribs were magical--as good as anything I had growing up in Texas. We were excited for Scouts Honor to team up with Basecamp and have been recurring customers for years. Unfortunately we have experienced a steep quality drop over the past 2 years. Brisket used to fall apart with a fork, ribs would melt in your mouth. These days, the meat quality is very inconsistent, often dry and tough. This has been the case too often to call it an off-night. Tonight was the most egregious case--I could not eat more than a couple bites of the brisket, as it was nearly leather in toughness (see pic). The chicken was equally dry and while it pained us we threw away both and had a cereal dinner. Unfortunately I think we've given this place enough chances and we're moving on. I hope at some point Scouts Honor can return to its former glory. read more

This place used to be incredible. large serving sizes, Excellent food but since they've hit their new location, it seems everything is gone Downhill. portion sizes are very sad and pathetic and quality Has drastically decreased. We planned our dinner to coincide with Scouts Honor and it was great. We ordered the tri-tip sandwich with Mac and queso, and the chicken club with onion rings. The brioche with the tri-tip was exactly as I'd hoped and the toasted bread on the chicken was perfectly done. The Mac was rich and al dente and the rings were well done as we'd requested. The staff is super friendly and we nabbed a table for two outside which had a lovely atmosphere. Definitely can't wait to try other items on the menu! Add this one to the blink or you'll miss it pile...but odds are, you probably aren't driving through the Rancho District in Burbank, CA all the time. If you do, don't drive too fast down the windy turns of Riverside Drive because you'll drive by one of the best BBQ places in the city. Scout's Honor BBQ started during the pandemic and at first glance seemed like a ghost kitchen. You'd order from an app and you'd notice a driver drive away from some office park in Burbank. They sadly closed a year or so into their endeavor, but promised to return and just like the end of Casper (spoiler alert for a 30 year old movie), they returned to a real kitchen/restaurant. Back when it was delivery only, the BBQ was one of the best I've had...which is a real testament to the quality of the food. I never got to eat it fresh, at the restaurant, it always came from someone's midsized sedan 30-60 minutes later, but the food was still so good. The brisket was moist and fatty. The tri tip, perfectly medium and melting in your mouth. The chicken was nice and smoky and tender. Ribs would fall off the bone, but still had a nice chew. All packaged nicely on a tray for your home consumption. When they closed, I thought about their food a lot...hoping they'd find a new location soon. When they reopened at the Basecamp location, I had to try them out again and this spot does not disappoint. First off, the location is beautiful. It's not just quiet, it's serene. Tucked away in a neighborhood, the only noise you'll hear is the occasional car driving by too fast or the clacking of horse hooves walking by. A perfect setting to have some smoked meats with friends and family. The food is still top tier and now that I can order in person comfortably, I've branched out to the other items on the menu...like their smoked wings, which may be the best thing on the menu. This I've taken to go, ate 30 minutes later...still warm, crispy, and saucy. The wings are huge and satisfying. These are now the best wings I can recommend in the Valley, maybe all of LA. If there's one downside to this place it's their side dishes...that's not to say they're bad, but the supporting cast isn't as strong as the stars. The mac and cheese is called mac and queso and it's exactly what it says...macaroni in queso dip. It's delicious in its own right, but don't expect melty cheese casserole. The chili however is outstanding and I would totally order a bowl of it on a cold day. It's full of their delicious tri tip, some jalapeño bits, and beans. Speaking of the tri tip, another star item on the menu is the camper salad. The description sounds like a jumble of words/ingredients...but it all works together. The only other downside to this place is it's only open on the weekends at night...but it just gives you another reason to hope for the weekend. read more

Scout's Honor BBQ lives in a weird place in the LA BBQ scene. It's not as sad as oven made BBQ, but it also doesn't sit as a peer among the craft BBQ spots like Moo's Craft in Lincoln Heights. Somehow, the BBQ has a hint of real smoke, but it's pretty weak. There is a lot of seasoning on the brisket. The point of the brisket actually tastes pretty good. But it isn't deeply seasoned with the clean smoke you'd expect from craft BBQ. The flat is equally seasoned, but is a bit dry. The seasoning is good, but it's different. Reads more like a twist on pot roast than an actual BBQ brisket. It's really weird, because you can physically see them smoking the meat on a Southern Pride smoker during the day. Bludso's Bar and Q, my second favorite spot in town, uses similar smokers to Scout's. But the smoke and seasoning is way better there. The ribs at Scout's Honor taste like they hit it with a hint of smoke and basted in BBQ sauce while they cooked. It's like oven baked ribs that have some smoke flavor. The potato salad was just straight up bland. The fries were fine. Overall, the place is fine if you want BBQ that's a step above the oven-cooked variety you'd get at Ribs USA. The smoke flavor was there, but it was bitter. Tasted like green wood. The meats were fatty, but dry. Seems like it had been cut ahead of time and oxidized for an hour or so. The service was great, though. The team there is super nice. The ambience is great. I want them to win. Burbank needs a great craft BBQ spot. But they've got some work to do before they join the ranks of the best BBQ joints in Los Angeles. read more

This is the second time visiting and it was disappointing. I had the 2 meat plate that I chose just brisket, big mistake. It came with super stale bread and super fatty brisket that was inedible. Never occurred to me that I would need to ask for brisket that wasn't all fatty, not trying to have a heart attack on the spot. C'mon. The cabbage side dish also was super greasy and flavorless. I was grateful I ordered a Caesar salad as a side which was probably the best out of the whole meal. Also ordered the banana pudding which another customer raved about. That wasn't great either as it just tasted like instant pudding with bananas. I took the brisket home thinking if I air fried it, the meat would be leaner as the fat melts off. If you're into good bbq you definitely gotta check this place out! This is one of best bbq spots I've tried in a while! When I got here I knew the bbq was going to be top tier by the seeing the huge smoker outside. I got the 2 meat dinner plate with brisket and ribs with mac and cheese and chili' beans on the side. The meats were smoked and cooked to perfection. I love the fact you can actually see a smoke ring on the ribs. I would say the Mac and cheese and chili beans are two sides you can't miss on. Let me start by saying, follow the directions. It's through an alley way. I wasn't sure at first but decided to go through anyway and eventually found people waiting outside to order. Thank goodness because I would have missed it. This place is definitely a hidden gem. Loved it and would highly recommend to other people! I had the hot link sandwich, which was a promotional item. I'm not sure they have it in their menu, but you can always ask. The sandwich came with the link, slaw, onions, bbq sauce on a brioche bun. Sooo good. The Explorer Plate: Two choices of meat, two sides. Chose the brisket and the tri-tip with macaroni and chili beans. The Mac and queso is their own twist. Made with white cheese, jalapeños and peppers. The beans had smoked poblano peppers, topped with cheddar cheese and cilantro. I would definitely come back because everything was delicious. I really wanted to like this place but sadly it looks like it all boils down to hype and probably why you don't see a lot of pictures. The staff and comic were really nice and that's the main reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one. But the food was ok at best, one very bland bbq sauce per sandwich and which id hardly call that. The cornbread waffle was sweet but I can't say you could taste any cornbread or really corn flavoring for that matter. You can see it's pretty basic of a sandwich when it's not one of their photos the chopped brisket was very plain and for 13 dollars just for that and same for a mostly fat tri tip sandwich I'd expect a lot better especially on the forth. You'd think you'd be on your A game. I lastly ordered a hot link which sounded good and I can't say I'd call it a hot link either. That's was maybe andouille or spicy Italian and just an oil bomb. I'm not gonna pretend that we didn't eat everything except for the hot link that was too much oil for me. I paid 34.00 dollars for this little amount of food I'm not gonna waste it and we already made our way back home by the time we got to it and saw how little it's was. This place may be a win for some but it was a major letdown. I'm not gonna say don't eat here definitely try it for self but I wouldn't walk in expecting anything close to the pictures or being full really. Found out about this place today on Next Door. Can't say enough good things about it. The smoked brisket and links are our favorite. Also love the smoked tri tip.
