Kalua Pork with Cabbage Hawaiian BBQ Beef
    Jonnie N.

Moana Hawaiian BBQ delivers solid comfort food done right. The Spicy Beef was tender and packed with a perfectly balanced mix of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. The Kalua Pork was savory and hearty, yet still felt light thanks to the cabbage mixed in. The macaroni salad was another pleasant surprise--not overly creamy and nicely seasoned. Portions are generous without being overwhelming, making it a satisfying and well-balanced meal overall. Definitely a spot worth coming back to.

I love to get the mixed plate with the chicken katsu and kalua pork. Both meats are tasty and well seasoned. Combined with the tonkatsu sauce and macaroni salad, you get a really tasty meal that's a mix of Japanese and Hawaiian cultures.

My BF's brother brought back the family deal for everyone to eat. It had 3 items, including beef, chicken and another chicken with pineapple. It also included white rice, veggies and macaroni salad. Everything was good. My favorite was the beef and the sweet and sour chicken. Normally, I turn my nose up at macaroni salad. However, I am trying new foods. I am glad I did. The macaroni salad was good. We have walked past this place many times. Now I know its good. Located in downtown Burbank near Sam Fernando and Orangegrove ave. Dont forget to feed the meters if you park on the street.

9.9/10 I finally tried Moana Hawaiian Barbecue and went straight for my go-to .... the Chicken Katsu. Let me just say, this instantly tied for one of my favorite Hawaiian spots in LA. The chicken itself was next-level extra crunchy on the outside, perfectly juicy inside, and super fresh. Honestly, the texture and crispiness even beat out Ono Hawaiian, which has been my longtime favorite. The portion here is generous too with noticeably more chicken than Ono's plate (though you're also paying about $5 more ). Now for the details Ono's Katsu sauce edges Moana's slightly for me -- it's a bit richer, and their mac salad also has a touch more flavor. That said, Moana's version is still excellent, and the overall quality of the chicken puts them head-to-head in my book. If you love crispy, juicy Katsu and big portions, Moana is a must-try

Very delicious Hawaiian BBQ Chicken every time I come to chow down here. Portions have gotten smaller over the years, well I guess everywhere but always delicious chicken. Love the macaroni salad it is so addicting! Price has gone up, as everything else but wish the price would match the quantity, the quality I have no issues with. Service always really good and quick. Clean restaurant and now with movies playing while you eat just feels like being at home.

It's been a few years (2013) since I was last here to eat, the last last time I ate here, I didn't care for their food quality or quantity so I've avoided this place. I recently came across the place and decided to check them out to see if thing's has improved. They've redecorated and the place seems cleaner so I decided to try them out again. The dining area is nice and clean, I ordered the BBQ mix plate with soda, ($25.00) the portions were decent, the food was good (better than I remembered) kinda expensive compared to Ono Hawaiian. Service was friendly and professional.

Food was great and the staff make all the difference. Definitely a good place to stop and share a meal with family & friends. Even have some to take home!

Food was great but mid way I noticed this metal thing like part of a stainless scrubber in my food

Still good but now even better! I think this fast casual Hawaiian bbq joint trumps all the rest. Their portions are good, everything is tasty, and it's quality food. Lots and lots of options here. The $10 price point for plates is no longer since my last review 9 years ago but for $16 it's still a good plate of food. This time I'm recommending the Hawaiian Bbq spicy chicken plate. Sweet and spicy with two scoops of rice and their bomb Mac salad. Don't forget your can of any Hawaiian fruit drink from the fridge. Service is quick and friendly.

I wish I could give this place a rating more thank 2 stars as the person in the store was super nice but the quality and quantity of the food and the prices don't match what I expect. I ordered the chicken katsu plate that comes with two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad and have to say that I was super disappointed with the quality of chicken that had way more batter than chicken meat. Just not used to this type of Hawaiian bbq. We sat outside on the side walk in the busy downtown burbakn which is great.

Came all the way from Koreatown, just for their plate of BBQ white meat chicken. Service is still top tier like always. They never hold back on their portions! So be prepared to leave completely full or take some leftovers. The ambiance is nice and cozy. It's never too loud, and it always has a nice vibe. Parking is free but always a nightmare trying to find parking, especially since Ohana BBQ is sharing the plaza with a Sprouts and other establishments. So be prepared for that. I fell in love before i even saw the menu. Now don't even get me started on that world class water. Best water I've ever consumed. Perfectly cold and delectably drinkable. They have a whole freaking sign for their sauces and dips. I'm in love. I got a Shirley temple and if i could marry a place instead of a person, the Shirley temple would be my reason. It was FANTASTIC. Our server, Isaiah, was absolutely amazing and on top of things, refilling our water before we even hit half glass. Not to mention his energy and vibe was so welcoming and fun. We got the PuPu platter for two, came out within minutes, I could spend the rest of my life eating that alone. Isaiah recommended his favorite sauces, Garlic Chive and Chipotle Citrus, they were amazing. We got the shrimp and lobster roll, I officially entered heaven. The Isles of Club sandwich was the finishing touch that had me laughing from joy. Near the end of our dining we meant Max, another server, who is absolutely fantastic, brought us everything we needed, boxes, sauce containers, bags, to-go dessert. His energy was also amazing and super fun. Now some extra things to note: -I'm not a big mac salad girly, but holy moly guacamole i loved their Mac salad. -anything tempura/fried in this place is heaven itself -their fries are perfect -the vibe is beyond life you might start crying in joy -be ready to want to buy everything on the menu and then some -I downloaded yelp just to leave this review Overall, Broken Compass Tiki is the perfect place for everyone. Broken Compass Tiki is a pirate themed tiki bar in Burbank…read more They don't having a parking lot, but it was very easy to find street parking just around the corner on a Sunday afternoon. The front of the building is a little vaguely marked, and the entrance has speakeasy vibes, which was a surprise. Upon walking in the front door, there is some tiki décor and a small counter in the rear. I remember thinking to myself "what the heck, this is it?". I checked in at the host stand on the left, and was handed me a boarding pass. She then led us through a hidden door behind what looked like a shipping crate. We were now in the real Broken Compass. The interior is a good size. The two-sided bar seats around a dozen. There is a lounge side of the bar that has two large booths along the wall, and another area with comfortable looking couches and lounge chairs. The main dining room has some tiki hut booths, and two sections of tables with half booth and half chair. The décor is pretty extensive with a good mix of pirate, nautical, and tiki themes. There is a lot of bamboo, thatch, rope, cargo netting, skulls and skeletons, port holes, octopus tentacles, jellyfish, tiki lights, and more. The ceiling is dark with various nautical and pirate markings, and even tied up ship sails overhead. The tiki hut booths have the parrots from the enchanted tiki room above them. Even the two restrooms are nautical themed, with beach and marine sounds playing. There is a lot of great décor to look at. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't very busy yet. By the time we left a few hours later, it was starting to get busy. We decided to sit at the bar. We started out with the buffalo cauliflower ($14) for an afternoon snack. The serving size was generous, and the buffalo sauce had a good tang. It was served with some sauces, and was surprisingly filling. A nice feature of the cocktail menu is that each drink displays one to three compass stars to indicate the strength of the drink. Their cocktails use a great variety of liquors including ones you don't often see. Many of the ingredients are made in-house. I started out with Chupacabra's Vacation (Demerara Rum, Jamacian Rum, Pomegranate Reduction, Cinnamon, Lime Juice, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $17). It is served with a flaming lime on top and a little fire show. It was balanced with a light booziness, some light pomegranate flavor, and a cinnamon sprinkle on top. She started out with the Bittersweet Paradise (Jamacian Rum, White Rum, Campari, Passionfruit Syrup, Lemon, Lime, Pineapple, two-star boozy rank, $18). It didn't drink boozy at all, and was passion fruit forward, with light bitterness. My second cocktail was the Bermuda Dune Buggy (Gin, Overproof Rum, Kumquat Liqueur, Cassis, Orange, Lime, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $18). It had a very unique garnish of a Chartreuse infused gummy which was delicious. The drink was nicely balanced, and didn't really drink boozy even with overproof rum in it. They have a rotating monthly cocktail and she tried the Tropic Like It's Hot (Coconut Washed Lemongrass Infused Rum, Mango, Lemon, Coconut Water, Amaro, $17) which was created by one of our bartenders Daniel. It was served in a Spam can and was light and refreshing with a nice pop of fruit at the start, and a very nice coconut flavor. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and had great conversation with our bartenders Daniel and Monica. They also provided excellent service. Broken Compass supports payment with the InKind app which gives you 20% back (10% on Friday and Saturday) in InKind cash. We had a really great time here, and the drinks, food, décor, and atmosphere were excellent. I purchased a Hork (Horse-shaRK) mug for $50 to bring home as a souvenir. We would definitely return again when in the area.

We've been doing that for a few years now, so that should tell you something right there. Our order is fairly consistent: we each start with a mimosa that comes in a highball glass, so one is usually all we need. Next, we share an order of kimchi biscuits (you get two). So delicious! Packed full of kimchi, bacon and cheddar cheese, it's a nice combo of flavors that play well together. The interior is usually soft and warm, with a nice crunchy crust. Top that with a smatter of the cinnamon butter that it comes with...yum! Our choice of entree varies, anything from avocado toast, to their kale and seaweed salad or any of their other selections they have from their brunch/lunch menu. On this outing, my friend and I both opted for the bibimbap. I opted for the pork bulgogi while my friend got the chicken version. It comes with a generous amount of carrots, zucchini, shiitake mushrooms and bean sprouts, and is topped with a runny, sunny side up egg that serves as an excellent sauce when you mix everything together, along with the gochujang sauce. We upgraded and got it with brown rice in the hot stone bowl. Worth it! The regular bibimbap is good, but when you mix in the crunchy crust that comes from the bottom of the stone bowl, you get an additional texture that makes the dish really stand out. The flavors already come together nicely, and the crunchy bits just enhance the experience. For dessert, we like to share the "lemon pie", which is actually a scoop of lemon gelato that comes in a glass that also includes graham crackers, topped with toasted marshmallows. A nice way to end the meal. And the staff! We usually either have Justin or Ann as our server, but everyone there is super friendly and helpful. They are consistently good at checking up on you and making sure you have everything you need. Just another 5 star reason of why we keep coming back!
