Very good place for camerones. I had the shrimp a la pancha. which is grilled butterfly shrimp. I think eight on the plate, good size, seasoned well and tasty. I do wish they removed the shell ahead of time. Comes with homemade rice and refried beans. I enjoyed booth, but if you do not like your refried beans runny, then this will be a no go. I removed the cheese and sour cream ahead of time. It comes with a salad, which I didn't try except for the avocado slices. I used the salsas on the table, one has a kick which I enjoyed. The dish also comes with corn tortillas. Since I'm allergic didn't have. My friend had a fish taco and a shrimp taco and enjoyed them both. WoW! So my mother asked if we can stop at this mariacos place and we did. She ordered the Lazaro's soup which surprisingly was ok. My sister and I on the other hand, well you can say we were not happy with what we ordered. She ordered an shrimp cocktail and it was SAD, frozen shrimp tossed into a tomato juice on a stupid shell bowl, had no flavor. I ordered a campechana and man o'man when I tell you it was bland and sad. Fahhhhhhh sh** was wack, it's like they have the seafood thawed out pre chopped and waiting to be added to the tomato juice and topped it with frozen cocktail shrimp. I've always seen Costa Azul by my house and finally got to try it with my girlfriend! Food was good. I tried their chilaquiles with carne asade and my girlfriend got sopa de albondigas. Their chilaquiles were good! The sauce could have used a little more flavor but the carne asade made up for it. The sopa was great! Really good flavor and the albondigas were also cooked really well. Service was good. We were given time to look over their menu and our waitress explained the foods well. Ambiance is nice. Gives a very welcoming and homey feeling. Plenty of seating inside. We've been going to this restaurant for over 10 years. It used to be good and the waitresses were kind. Yesterday, we didn't sit at the table the waitress suggested because there were mosquitoes coming out of the salsa. We ordered several items, and it was obvious they were short-staffed and everything took a long time. When the food finally arrived, it was disgusting. The chimichanga meat was literally black from being over-fried. I was served a tostada bowl with chicken cartilage, and the tostada was soaked in grease--it wasn't drained and tasted like old oil. My son was given a chicken soup with chicken full of blood. Not to mention my daughter didn't eat the menudo because she said it tasted like blood. This was the worst food we've had in a restaurant in months, and we were actually giving them another chance. We left our plates full of food. At the end, the owner came over and we suggested he should fire his cook because the food was awful. We paid what we were charged, but the owner told me that I couldn't come at the end of dinner to say the food was bad because he had asked earlier if everything was okay and if we needed anything else--and that I should have said something then, not at the end. He was very incompetent and didn't listen. We didn't want to avoid paying; we just wanted a good dinner. I'm only saying this so others don't go to Costa Azul--you'll leave very disappointed. The atmosphere is chill, and there are a few TVs to watch sports. Our server was attentive and friendly. I ordered the Aquachile. It was presented in a nice clam shaped bowl, which was filled with shrimp, octopus, cucumber, & avocado. The citrus marinade had a nice flavor, and it was extra spicy, which I loved. This place has two options of how to order, either dine in or order at the counter. Waitresses were nice. Place was clean. Decor is the usual mariscos restaurant decor. Tacos were good and big! The shrimp cocktail was good as well and had a hint of sweetness to it, I do wish it had a bit more veggies in it. When you dine in you get complimentary chips and salsa, which was good as well but can be better. I would definitely come back here! Came in with a craving for a caldo de camarones. I was disappointed. The actual caldo was mid level as far a flavor. I had to add a lot of tapatío sauce and lime. By the way, the tapatío bottle was noticeably watered down. I have seen this "technic" often in restaurants were they refill the small tapatío bottles (not a good flavor). As Far as the actual shrimp, it had good amount. I didn't count how many but if I had to guess ,it must of been around a dozen. The downside to the shrimp was that it also did not have much of that good shrimp flavor. Just as an example, if you were to order shrimp at Boiling Crab without any seasoning, you could still taste that good shrimp flavor that I'm trying to comunícate to you. Overall, I would have to give it a 5 out of 10 for the caldo de camarones. Do note that this is the only thing I have eaten here. On the menu there are several options you can order, from the smaller street size or the larger full size taco, in either flour or corn tortillas.
