    Ranchera skillet

First time coming here :) Went on a Friday around noon and there was no wait, host was nice and attentive. Ordered chilaquiles banda: 8/10 Ranchera breakfast skillet :7/10 Beans were amazing , added ham. My only note is that they had waaaay too much sauce in both dishes in my opinion. The sauces take away from the actual flavor of the meat and everything else which is already flavorful on its own. I think next time I'll just say very light on the sauce and they should be perfect. Will be back :)

My friend took me to Mex Cocina Café in Burbank when I was seriously craving chilaquiles, and wow this place delivered. I ordered the Chilaquiles Bandera along with a café de olla, and everything was absolutely amazing. The chilaquiles were flavorful, perfectly cooked, and hit the spot in every way. The café de olla was rich, comforting, and the perfect complement to the meal. The ambiance was very homey and full of heart, with heart logos throughout that make the place feel extra special and welcoming. On top of that, the customer service was outstanding everyone was incredibly courteous, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. You can really feel the love they put into both their food and their space. If you're looking for a great spot for chilaquiles and authentic flavors, this place is a must. I'll definitely be back!

Grilled chicken breast with garlic shrimp

This update is way overdue! Let me start off by saying that my family and I have been visiting this restaurant for about a decade now. Their impeccable service, authentic pozole, and delicious caldo de res always keep us coming back. I've tried their grilled chicken breast with garlic shrimp, chicken enchiladas, strawberry-banana-Nutella French toast, Abuelita hot chocolate pancakes, carne asada taco combo, pozole, caldo de res, regular horchata, and strawberry horchata. Let's start with the grilled chicken breast with garlic shrimp. The chicken breast itself had a nice, citrusy taste to it. It was moist, tender, and flavorful. The garlic shrimp were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The dish also included rice, beans, and nopal (cactus), which paired well with the chicken. Next up are the chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas were stuffed with shredded chicken and garnished with red sauce, sour cream, and mozzarella cheese. These also came with rice and beans. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of these enchiladas. The shredded chicken tasted very bland, and the red sauce didn't add much flavor either. Next up is the strawberry-banana-Nutella French toast. This consists of slices of French toast topped with strawberries, bananas, and Nutella, finished with powdered sugar and whipped cream, and served with syrup. Every single bite of this dish tasted like heaven. It was so good that I couldn't stop savoring it even long after I had finished it. Next up are the Abuelita hot chocolate pancakes. This is the first restaurant I've seen that offers such a combination. These pancakes are infused with Abuelita Mexican-style hot chocolate (rich, cinnamon-spiced chocolate). They were served with powdered sugar, whipped cream, and syrup on the side. This combination works wonders! All of these flavors were singing in my mouth. Next up is their Carne Asada Taco Combo, which also comes with rice and beans. I ordered carne asada as my protein. Unfortunately, the carne asada was bland. I tried adding salsa and lime to enhance the flavor, but even those weren't enough to make it taste better. Next up is their pozole! This is my favorite item on their menu. Pozole is a traditional Mexican hominy stew and is only served on weekends at this restaurant. It comes with a side of chips, onions, limes, shredded cabbage, and salsa. Their recipe is very authentic and absolutely delicious! I always highly recommend this dish to anyone who asks me where to find good pozole. Tip: If you're looking to order pozole on cold or rainy days, make sure you go early, as they tend to run out fast. Next up is their caldo de res (beef stew). This dish consists of beef broth, chunks of beef, and vegetables. It also comes with a side of salsa, onions, and limes. This beef stew is one of the best in the area. It's a very tasty and comforting choice, especially during cooler weather. This is my mom's and sister's favorite item. Next up is their horchata. I love a restaurant that serves good horchata, and this restaurant definitely has their recipe down. The horchata is perfectly balanced (not too sweet or cinnamon-heavy) and tastes homemade rather than from a powder. It's the perfect drink to balance the savory spice from their red salsa. Last but not least, their strawberry horchata. This is a whipped drink that features their horchata with strawberries mixed in. It's very refreshing, and the strawberry notes make it stand out from the regular horchata. Although this variation is quite good, I still prefer the regular horchata. This restaurant has a friendly, relaxed, and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for family meals, casual brunches, and laid-back lunches. As mentioned above, the service here is very close to flawless. The staff is warm and attentive, which adds to the comfortable ambiance. Kudos to the owner(s) and management for running this restaurant like a well-oiled machine! My family and I are always treated so well on every visit. As mentioned in my original review, the same complaints still exist. The parking structure is shared with other businesses and is very small, which makes parking difficult most of the time. Wait times tend to be anywhere from 20-30 minutes, depending on the time of day. Overall, this restaurant offers authentic Mexican cuisine, excellent service that's hard to find nowadays, and a very comforting atmosphere. I highly recommend their pozole. you won't be disappointed! Chicken Albondigas

Happy to finally go here after years of hearing how crowded it can be - I went about 2pm on a weekday and was seated immediately, but it's smaller than I thought, so that's why it gets busy. My friend had the asada taco and chicken albondigas while I had the pork verde burrito and cafe de olla. Everything was really good, so we're looking forward to going again. Best Mexican coffee I've had in a long time. Service is really friendly, living up to their reputation. Ambiance is nothing special, so not really a place for 1st dates, but go here for the food.

    carne asada + cheese enchilada

Firstly, I judge all Mexican restaurants by its rice and beans. If the rice and beans are dry and/or leftover, that sets the expectation for the rest of the meal. The rice and beans here are incredible. The rice is a family recipe of white rice that includes corn and peas. This is not your typical Mexican rice. It's better IMHO. Then the frijoles are hot and covered in Cotija cheese. Absolutely delicious. So I was already anticipating the main course, the Carne Asada and Cheese Enchilada. I probably should have left off the enchilada because it, by itself, was less than stellar. Good, just not great as I was expecting. The main dish, the Carne Asada, with fresh flour (or corn) tortillas and fresh pico de gallo, guacamole, and green salsa was ready to be devoured. The skirt steak was tender, cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and so incredibly delicious. Usually, you'd have to add the accoutrement to make the meat tasty but this Carne Asada is tasty all on its own. Their menu is so vast and varied, you'd have to eat here every day to get a sense of just how good it is. My suspicion is that it's all good or great. The service was wonderful with friendly servers and wait staff. We sat outside, which was our preference on this beautiful Burbank day. Burbank has lots of good food due to the presence of the movie and tv studios. Mex Cocina is just another of those joints that you don't want to miss if you live or work in this area. Warning: Parking may be difficult.

Visited: 7/28/24 I ordered the strawberry horchata, regular horchata, chilaquiles, and huevos rancheros (both with asada), and everything was absolutely delicious! This is easily the best Mexican restaurant I've been to. There was a bit of a wait to be seated and a line when we arrived, but it was 100% worth it for the food and drinks. We were seated outside, and it does get very crowded with tables close together, but once the food came out, none of that mattered. The drinks were amazing. Both the regular and strawberry horchata were great, but the strawberry was my favorite. I will definitely be coming back in the future!

I LOVE MEXCOCINA! Have visited countless times now, perfect spot for brunch with family. It's very traditional Mexican food & it's delicious. Staff are nice & friendly. Be weary that parking is limited, there's a small lot but it fills up quick, I usually will park on the street in the surrounding neighborhood if I can't find any there. My fav are the Chilaquiles Suizos, can never go wrong! It can get really packed on weekends so I usually call ahead to check on wait times. I can't recommend it enough!

Cute little spot... have been coming here for years... I loved their chilaquiles; however the red salsa has changed to what it was back in 2018... so it's a bummer... I went today and tried the chilaquiles suizos and those were pretty delicious. Their horchata and cafe de olla is absolutely the best and I highly recommend!

Pretty good brunch spot. Came on a Sunday around 1 pm for brunch; we had about 7 people in our party. We were accommodated pretty well and fairly quickly. Maybe we waited about 10 mins for a table because of the size of the location and lack of bigger tables, but it was not as bad of a wait as other brunch spots, so it was pretty quick. The location, like I said, is small and could use a huge upgrade given the popularity of the place but is not too bad. They do have some tables outside as well. Service was great, and despite a packed Sunday afternoon, we were not disappointed with the service or the quick delivery of the food. I ordered a carne that had green salsa on it. I forgot the name of it, but it was good. My wife got her chilaquiles, and my kids ordered the Mickey waffle. All the food was super good, and my green salsa was one of the greatest green salsas I had tasted, and it went well with my meat. I also ordered myself an iced coffee, and it was pretty good. I was very tired and needed a pick me upper, and I will say it did its job because it spiked me right up and made me ready for my day. The thing I don't like is that there are no refills on drinks; you have to buy another, so that jacks up the price a bit, but the food itself is not overly expensive. We enjoyed our Sunday brunch here and do look forward to coming back again to try some new brunch items.

This place draws a crowd, so it's best to arrive with plenty of time. Once you're seated, the staff is very attentive and checks in frequently, which makes the experience even better. I started with the chilaquiles, which are an absolute must. You can add the protein of your choice, and honestly, you can't go wrong whether you choose red, green, or any other option. Their café de olla is also a standout, I usually get it iced, and it never disappoints. I'm always excited to come back and try more of their breakfast dishes. They also offer both indoor and outdoor seating, which is a nice bonus.

Wow! Delicious food, amazing staff and the best Cafe de Olla! I particularly loved that the iced Cafe de Olla was made with non-dairy oat milk and tasted amazing!! My husband and I had the breakfast burritos - ham & bacon. They were both incredible! We asked for a side of chipotle sauce for a bit of heat and OMG we now consider these breakfast burritos to be in our top 2 best in the valley! Try going during a weekday to avoid the crowds and long lines!

The coffee and chilaquiles are so good, as well as everything else. I love the customer service and overall ambiance. Love this place, forever loyal to it

Found this gem on a last minute detour in Burbank. Man oh man very happy I found this spot! Food was 100% Mexican authentic literally tasted like ordered from a cafe in Mexico City. One of the most authentic spots I have ever walked into. Service was superb. Great taste, and the cafe de olla was also delicious. Highly recommend this Mexican gem.

The beet salad was fresh, balanced, and just WOW. We also ordered the Peri Peri chicken and omg -- the sauce was delicious and the chicken itself was juicy and flavorful. I do wish I ordered the bone-in version instead of the 2 breast chicken. The flavor was there, but I personally felt like the chicken was a little over-charred. I almost returned it, but since we were both hungry, we still ate it. Even then, I'd still come back and try their other dishes or maybe the bone-in Peri Peri next time because the sauce alone was so good. The only side that didn't fully match my taste was the mashed potatoes. I honestly wish I ordered another veggie instead because it didn't pair as well with the Peri Peri for me. But let me tell you about the drinks... the craft soda was AMAZING. Super refreshing and honestly one of the best drinks I've had in a while. They have a very extensive menu here. There's a parking lot in the back and I also noticed a sign that said Complimentary Valet but there wasn't anyone at the stand. We walked in to a completely empty restaurant and saw one server (Denise) taking another table's order outside. I think she was the only employee on duty and doing everything by herself. After about 7 minutes, she approached us and asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and we said outside. Then she asked us if we preferred the smoking or non-smoking patio, and we chose non-smoking. I didn't even know this was an option nowadays, I thought smoking at restaurants wasn't allowed anymore. Apparently they also have hookah available every day starting at 5pm, both inside and outside the restaurant. I was really looking forward to trying their frittata but didn't know that breakfast was only until 3pm. Unfortunately I couldn't order it since we got here around 4pm. We stayed with our waters and I got a bowl of their Clam Chowder soup that came with 2 bulky and FRESH pieces of warm Focaccia bread. I also ordered a Chicken Pesto Panini which came with Grilled Chicken Breast, Basil Pesto Aioli, Tomato, Mozzarella, Fresh Basil, Roasted Peppers and Arugula on toasted Ciabatta Bread. I chose Fruit as my side. The ingredients were all fresh, but unfortunately the bread was toasted way more than my liking and the sandwich was really dry overall. There wasn't enough pesto and the chicken was a bit overcooked. I felt like I was hurting my tooth as I ate it. On the other hand, my soup absolutely stole the show. It was an outstanding bowl of Clam Chowder that really hit the spot after not having it for several years. It was piping hot, and again, very fresh. So flavorful and enjoyable. I savored every spoonful! My son ordered the French Turkey Sandwich that came with Roasted Turkey with Swiss Cheese, Avocado, Tomato, Pickles, Lettuce, Red Onions, Garlic Aioli on Sourdough Bread. He loved his sandwich and ate every crumb off his plate. I also had some of his sandwich and it was really good, way better than mine. Also nice portion for the price. He got his with a side salad that had arugula, tomatoes, red onion and lemon vinaigrette. After seating us and taking our order, Denise disappeared and Bryce took over. He was an excellent server and provided great customer service. I told him about my issues with my sandwich and he apologized and brought me some extra pesto aioli on the side. The place is very clean and everything looks very new and well-kept. Bryce mentioned they've been around for about 10 years but did an extensive remodel during COVID. I'd also like to mention that the tap water tasted so good. No nasty aftertaste like some other restaurants. Even their glasses were beautiful. Thank you management, Bryce and The Corner. We will be back another time to try the same sandwich and see if there's any improvement. We will also try more things, including the Frittata. Both restrooms were fully stocked and super clean!!

The restaurant felt very intimate and home like! The only down side about our experience was the menus, they seemed pretty old and damaged. Some of them were just falling apart completely! 8/10!!

We got the Sweet Temptation French toast, the Very Berry French toast, and the Chilaquiles Divorciados. Parking was easy to find (street parking) and we didn't have to wait long for our table. The staff are all very friendly! We asked our waiter for suggestions and he was very helpful. Two of us were feeing sweet, one was feeling savory, and there were plenty of options on the menu. I got the Sweet Temptation French toast. This was delicious. The Dulce de Lèche was rich, but balanced out with the acidity from the strawberries. The French toast was exactly as you would imagine, cooked well and had a nice flavor. The French toast came with a side of eggs, meat, and potatoes. I chose over medium eggs, bacon, and hash browns. My eggs were cooked right, the bacon was crispy without being brittle, and the hash browns were perfect. Definitely worth it! My friends got the Very Berry French toast and the Chilaquiles Divorciados. They both said theirs were delicious as well. The ambience of the restaurant is clean and nice. There's seating indoors and outdoors, we chose to eat inside. The waiter checked on us a few times to make sure we were still doing okay, and we never felt rushed. Overall, I would definitely recommend Cafe De Olla. I'll be back to try their other menu items (:

The creamy sauce was rich but not too heavy, and it paired really well with the fish. The greens were fresh and balanced the whole dish nicely. Service was friendly and attentive without being over the top. Overall, really solid spot with great food and presentation. I'll definitely be back

Met a friend up here who saw this on Yelp as a good new place. Afterwards, we both agreed that…read moreit's "eh..." Thought we'd beat the lunch rush, and it was packed at 11:30. One over-worked employee took our order, brought out the food, and cleaned the tables. We toast her for the effort. I got the Belgian waffle, which says it comes with fruit and syrup. When it arrived, it was also covered with powdered sugar and an overly generous amount of whipped cream. (Way more than in the photo on Yelp, which I'm seeing now) Had the waffle description mentioned whipped cream or powdered sugar, I wouldn't have ordered it. This was a massive cookie, essentially...I ate what I could. (Isn't it annoying when restaurants have ingredients or items NOT listed in the description that show up?) My fellow diner had a tuna sando which he said was "fine". No sides are included with sandwiches (they cost extra - take note). Iced tea was delicious but a tad expensive at $5. There are multiple seating areas. We were towards the back as the front and outdoor were full. This back area sure was lived-in: 3 tables of people with plugged in computers there for the long haul, including 1 guy who seemingly fell asleep in the booth seating against the wall? He eventually woke up and even if he was removed, he returned and was no worse for wear. Maybe that's the designated "stay for the day area" as long as you order stuff from time to time. When we left an hour later, the front seating area was completely empty! Maybe lunch isn't too busy? Calidum has a full menu, so I'd be up for trying something else, but in no rush to return.
