Martino's is one of my favorite bakeries. We have been getting baked goods here for longer than I have been alive. They have a private parking lot for the bakery, and both indoor/outdoor seating. We were greeted as soon as we entered and asked if we needed a moment to decide on what we would be ordering. Moving away from the SFV, Martino's Tea Cakes are one thing I miss most. My brother brought me a dozen when he drove up to visit me last year but I sure miss the convenience of living just down the road. Over the years they have made countless birthday cakes for our family. However its their famous Tea Cakes that have our hearts. They are delicious, perfectly moist and full of flavor. We ordered a dozen regular teacakes, 4 coffee cake tea cakes, 2 churro cupcakes, 1 birthday cake cupcake, a walnut brownie, an eclair, and a half dozen cinnamon sugar mini butter cookies. All of which were delicious. I forgot how incredible their butter cookies are. I was a bit disappointed in the cupcakes as the cake was dryer than usual but the flavor of the churro cupcake was amazing. I brought the coffee cake tea cakes home to my grandma and she was in heaven, she has been a regular at Martino's since she was a child. read more

I ordered one of each flavor (original, blueberry crumble, cranberry crumble, coffee cake, & chocolate). These are great to have as a snack with coffee or tea- or even to bring as a treat for an event. The original and chocolate had a soft sugar glaze on top. Small but packed with goodness! I've only heard about and driven by this place! I've also had some of their pastries at parties over the years but I'm officially in love!! There was one guy working the counter and he was very cool! While we were oooohing and ahhhing he just smiled the whole time and patiently answered questions I'm sure he's heard many times before. Their website says "serving Burbank since 1926" it's 2026 now which means they turn 100 this year! They are doing something right, especially in this economy! I was so lucky my coworker introduced me to tea cakes last year. One of the best pastries I've ever eaten! They are so delicious and incomparable. I rave about this place to so many people now and bring tea cakes to my family. A couple things to keep in mind that are opportunities. Parking is a one way, you have to tip in cash they don't have a card system that offers you to tip on your card, last time I went original tea cakes (the best) were sold out by 10:30A and the next batch I was told wasn't going to be ready for another hour, they are closed Sundays, and they don't have the best hours especially if you work a 9-5. Nevertheless I recommend this place, it is one of the best pastry shops in the 818 and such a staple to Burbank! Cheers to your next 100! read more

I have been craving a cherry pie for a week. I bought 2 cherry pies this week and gave them away after the first bite because they were not good. Someone mentioned to me to call Martino's bakery in Burbank and I did. They too have cherry pie, so I ran to Martino's and they had just sold their last cherry pie. At this point, I was determined to get a cherry pie that was to my liking. Maribel told me to come the next day and I did. I was there at 8 o'clock when they open and they were very friendly, Maribel remembered me from yesterday and was so happy to get me a cherry pie, which had just been baked by the way. I got the pie home and have had two pieces. It is exactly what I was looking for. Finally my craving is satisfied and I'm happy. Martino's bakery has been in existence for countless years, and I have bought my share of tea cakes, which they are famous for. I never knew they sold cherry pie and I'm glad I've learned they do. after reading the reviews, I was looking forward to coming to this bakery, but their menu is very misleading. I drove all the way from Pasadena to get a banana cream pie because I called and the menu says they have them in stock. When I get here, they don't have that or a bunch of other stuff they have on their menu and the person the counter tells me that I need to place orders in advance. That's what they should put on their website if that's the case. Not only that they've got a bunch of kids working there that don't seem to care at all. There's a reason why classics are classic and you don't get anymore classic than Martino's Bakery. A Burbank mainstay since 1926, Martino's probably falls under the "blink and you'll miss it" category due to it's obscure location, but also since you might be enjoying their baked goods without knowing it. For years, I've been going to diners and coffee shops around town and occasionally order a slice of pie. For years I thought, that place makes great pie even though they never really had the kitchen size to make pies. Then one day I learned the truth, most of those places had been ordering their pies from Martino's. One bite confirmed the suspicions. I ordered a boysenberry pie and it was the same flaky crust...gooey, sticky filling that I had been ordering all these years. Instead of paying close to 10 dollars for a slice, I could have been getting a whole pie for about 20, and directly supporting a Burbank institution. Weeks later, I would come back and try the lemon meringue pie...I'm not a big fan of meringue and theirs was ok. It tasted like a mix of marshmallow and thick whipped cream. The curd was delicious and tart. The crust however was kind of forgettable, unlike the crust on the fruit pies which are flaky and add character to each bite. While they take the prize for best pie in the city, they might also have the best pastry in town and that's high praise considering another well known bakery is only a couple miles away on Magnolia. Come for the pie, but also come for the tea cakes. Apparently, these were Walt Disney's favorite back when Martino's was closer to the Disney lot. They look muffins that never grew a top. If you get the regular one or seasonal pumpkin spice, they're glazed on top. Glazed or not, these tea cakes are delicious...dense, but also tender and moist. A perfect mix of muffin and cake. They approach the limits of too sweet, but just enough to make you want to go back for another. The regular tea cake is a wonderful balance of lemon cake and a vanilla cake. It's absolutely perfect with a cup of tea or coffee. There's a reason why these are what they're famous for. However, that's where their claim to fame ends for me. Having had other things from their display case, nothing else matches the hype of the pie and tea cakes for me. The cup cakes are just ok. Same with the croissants, cookies, and tarts. Not saying they're not good, but after trying everything out a couple times, I am only coming back for the tea cakes and pie. read more

We have been getting teacakes at Martino's for years. Our family loves them. This past weekend, we special ordered two dozen teacakes with pink sprinkles for a birthday party. The sprinkles were old and tasted terrible. Such a disappointment. Further frustration at coming back to bakery to explain what happened. The manager had to be forced to come out to talk to me and said she could only give me partial store credit. No apology. Disappointing customer service. Clearly did not believe me and acted like I was trying to scam them. I'm taking a break from the teacakes and supporting Porto's where the customer service is always great. Teacakes are great. Just buy the plain ones. I will not order anything with sprinkles from here. read more

Growing up in Vermont, I had first hand experience in bakeries as my uncle owned the King Bakery chain. Every weekend he would let me "help," which consisted of cleaning. and eating. Because of this, I can be highly critical of all things bakeries., and Martino's in Burbank overwhelmed me to be sure. First of all, it is very clean. Compulsively clean. I love that. And the service staff were as friendly as they were patient, which is important because how do you choose from their showcases of baked goods, they all look so good. If you have heard of them, it was undoubtedly because they are famous for their tea cakes, which are delicious and not the least bit dry. An absolute winner, especially if you are having company come over. Growing up, I became a connoisseur of bear claws. I love them and to my dismay, not many people make them, or make them well. Not even in Solvang, which is the bakery capital of California. But Martino's does. World class almond filling and a generous icing and almond flake topping, I devoured one and took six home...they were that good. Investigating further, everything I tried or took home was perfect, fruit Danish, muffins, tarts, & cookies...and something you rarely see at a bakery...ice cream. The pies and cakes looked amazing as well. They are obviously passionate about their products. If you are a bakery guru like me, run don't walk to Martino's, you won't be disappointed, and if you see someone getting a box full of Bear claws, stop and say hi.
