Horrible breakfast experience. First, the breakfast menu tried to be something they are not - special. We ordered the " Breakfast Sandwich" that was a biscuit sandwich with eggs, cheese and ham, which some apple butter. The sandwiches were impossible to eat as a sandwich because the biscuit disintegrated when you touched it. The ham was over cooked and so salty it over powered the whole sandwich. The worst breakfast sandwich I ever purchased. It was a mess in the first 5 seconds and not edible. We asked for a different menu item "avocados toast". This was loaded with avocados, mix of cherry tomatoes and what looked to be red sweet baby peppers, topped with some sprouts. The peppers were not sweet they were habaneros! First bite put me into a pretty good sweat. We picked them out and finished the sandwich. I could help but think these were put into my meal on purpose after complaining about the sandwich. Peppers are not listed on the menu and certainly not habaneros! Very disappointing service in general and would never recommend. read more

WOW, just happened to walk past this place last night and decided to have drinks and dinner. Had a very great time. Food was fresh and very good, drinks excellent, and our waiter William was outstanding and very professional. He really made sure we were relaxed and he was on point throughout our dinner. The 8 years in the dessert Red Zen was an added bonus. Very interesting wines on the list. Great selection of Spanish wines with a great selection of interesting bottles. Most hotel connected restaurants never make the the cut - and this one doesn't either. It simply fails on so many counts. On arrival should have been our first hint - plenty of tables on a Saturday night in the height of the season. Our second hint, their computerized beverage menu . Please, separate your wines by glass from bottles. Secondly, when viewing by country you say you offer Italy and Spain- but you offer a French selection . ok not a big deal but speaks to attention to detail. Third hint, no champagne so we order Kir Royal. The nice young waiter, has no idea what we are talking about. He offers to check with bartender and yay , they have it. we can doctor their two poor sparkling wine selections. We order steak Satay with peanut sauce , we get Shish Kabob with roasted peanuts . Tough unseasoned meat . It gets returned. Following is pork belly bao buns. The buns are toasted - not steamed , the sauce obviously canned . This is by no means a scratch kitchen. This is a " Sysco" kitchen - pre packaged food and sauces . Unfortunately, even this was not executed well. All and all it's just poor menu execution. When I asked a friend for recommendations of where to eat in St. Augustine this was one of her top choices and it was perfect. My daughter and I shared the fried green heirloom tomato salad and the almond and coconut crusted mahi. Both were absolutely delicious. I especially loved the roasted tricolor cauliflower that was served with the fish. We also requested a side of cilantro rice which was the best I've ever tasted. We stayed right across the street. We wanted breakfast and used Google to find a place. This had amazing reviews from the staff to the food. Our experience was anything but what the reviews said. We sat down(5 of us-1 being a 7yr old who gets his order placed for him). Ordered drinks. Water and OJ came out within 5 mins. No coffee or sweet tea for the guys. Ask waiter, yes its coming. 10 mins go by and nothing. Ask again and find out their coffee pot is down and has been for 2 days and they're getting coffee from next door at starbucks(but it only takes 30 seconds according to waiter). Finally coffee comes, we inquire about sweet tea..well we don't have any cause our coffee pots are down so we don't have tea either‍ . We order our breakfast. 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, RED SKIN POTATOES, and toast. One of our party asks for scrambled eggs. Waiter asks if she wants cheese. Reply is no thank you. Also asks for toast on separate plate due to gluten allergy(not gf lifestyle). Food comes, scrambled eggs WITH CHEESE, hashbrown patties, not RED SKIN POTATOES. Hashbrown patties contain gluten. The waiter insists "their potatoes do not have flour in them and its fine to eat" Ask for ketchup for my hashbrown triangles. Wait patiently for 10 minutes and then another from our party asks again. It finally comes. For the $70 for 4 eggs, 4 pieces of sausage, 4 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of toast and 4 mini pancakes(kids menu), a coffee and an OJ it was not worth it at all. Next time we will walk a ways and find a chain or a gas station and eat a muffin sandwich that has sat under a hot lamp for a few hours. So disappointed. And no we didn't reach out to manager, we just wanted out of the chaos. Also if you do visit..OJ is 4.50 and a soda is 5.00 so get the OJ! read more

I've been to the bar a few times and have loved the interaction I've had with the bartenders. The guy that works there is not as friendly, especially after I heard him talking bad about other customers, commenting on a woman's weight and appearance is not cool. The other problem I have is with a male manager, Lane, I believe. He's very disrespectful to his employees, verbally, in front of customers. Makes very.. should I say.. unsavory.. innuendos to customers and staff. This has happened every time i've been in, not just once. Customers have complained to him directly about the male bartender and he just blows it off.. doesn't do anything about this guys comments. If i was in human resources with Marriott, he would have been gone a long time ago. I honestly don't see how he keeps employees. The only saving grace at that bar, and the reason i've gone back, is the younger woman that works there and the taller blonde guy. I really enjoy the interactions i've had with them. We came to visit St.Augustine. We have been here several times before (14) we were looking for a new places to visit. We found this restaurant it has been open for around six months according to what they told us. The food is just amazing. It is a place you must visit when you come to St. Augustine. Start with complimentary valet parking, Very courteous welcoming service. Our waitress did a fantastic job and to top it up the food was just out of this world, the taste, the texture everything came together for an amazing and delicious food experience. When people come to St Augustine and look for restaurants, they don't think of those restaurants located in hotels. Today we went to Castillo located in the Renaissance Hotel on San Carlos. What a hidden gem. Great craft cocktail menu and reasonably priced compared to other downtown St Augustine restaurants. I had the old Fashioned which was a good pour with a dirty cherry- highly recommended. For dinner we selected the bucatini pasta with clams and mussels. The pasta was served Al dente and loaded with fresh seafood. We also selected the fish and chips, as recommended by Will our server. I am so glad. This is the best fish and chips I have eaten in St Augustine. A nice light batter coating a thick piece of Cod. Yummy. The portions were large so no room for dessert. However, the manager described them so well I wish I had ordered. Next time I will make sure to have room. We will definitely be back again. No table covers, poor acoustics, no complementary bread as typically expected in this market. Appetizers were great; taste and quantity above expectations. Entries included burgers/sandwiches. Actual meal selection is limited. Quality is good and adequate portions. Dessert menu typical. Service is above-average which is expected. Went here for dinner on the 31st on New Years. Service was good, until the end! We were a party of 10, spent over $600 and were denied dessert because it was 10:15, and it closes at ten. When we requested a desert menu, the waitresses response was "the kitchen will not be happy." Then, we asked to see the manager and they had no manager on shift. So then we asked to see the chef, and he said "We could only offer cheesecake and ice cream." I went to your place with my family last night to try a local venue. I should have walked out when I encountered the owner/matre de at the Restuarant desk. The man was as rude as they get, especially considering that the place was almost empty. That man's attitude alone will kill the Castillo soon. Maybe his bad attitude it works in elite places in New York or LA. But here in St Augustine we like pleasant attitudes where we spend our money. Nevertheless me being an adventurous, open-minded man we sat down for your food. The steak had lots of gristle, the burger was horrible. your Italian pasta chicken dish was too tough to finish, Your french-fries were frozen crinkle cuts with a bunch of seasoning. Your only redeemable dish was the salad. Your drink were light weights for the price with very small glasses .You had no basics like cherries or fresh fruit cut for your drinks. Your a poor quality place, way over priced with a manager with a bad attitude. You do not like locals eating at your place, Good luck with your business model of a bad attitude with cheap food and drinks way overpriced. I will never return. We made a reservation for brunch and found out they don't serve brunch! Thankfully we had arrived about 25 minutes early and asked to be seated just for breakfast. They cleared a table and sat us after about 6-8 minutes. We were never offered coffee or water. No one ever came to the table to check in with us. A couple who was seated after us was immediately offered water and a server checked in with them. We realize the restaurant was short staffed, but it seems they could have done much better. As a local, we try to visit all the newest of restaurants. We have held off on this one because typically as a hotel restaurant we are not pleased. Boy were we wrong on this one! My girlfriend and I decided to try this one out. We had a wonderful evening with Kristen as our server. She was very helpful and put up with a million questions and concerns. The food was incredible! With 6 of us there was a wide variety of options. The favorite was the Brussel sprout app and the roasted red pepper hummus! Generous portions amd very tasty! I had the fish and chips! I was quite jealous of the pasta dish...bucatinni with clams and seafood with a beautiful sauce. I am going back just to get that! Met friends this evening at the Castillo Craft Bar + Kitchen inside the new Renaissance St. Augustine Historic Downtown Hotel across from Ripley's and let me say that this is a hidden gem! The décor is really cool, kind of like the inside of a castle but a little modern at the same time. As far as service goes, even though they were short staffed with only 2 servers, they were attentive, pleasant, and friendly - service was so good you would never know they were short if they didn't say it! Cocktails were amazing as well, and not served in the miniaturized version of a normal glass that some of the 'craft' places like to use, you get a real drink that is made right. The star of the show however is the food. I had the Billy's BBQ Bison Burger with White Truffle Fries and the burger was juicy and flavorful and the fries were absolutely delicious. My wife had the Espresso Seared Pork Chop and she absolutely loved it. I had a taste of the chop and it was as juicy, tender, and flavorful as a high-end cut of steak - I found it to be so good that I was VERY happy that she didn't finish it! Oh, and they have a parking lot - with valet and free 2 hour parking! You can't beat that with a stick, especially for us locals!! read more

Stopped in to this restaurant last minute before a tour we had planned. The hostess was super pleasant and sweet. We were a party of 7 that was seated immediately. The decor was super modern and classy. The waiter Will was super attentive and gave great recommendations. We tried a lot of wonderful food. The lobster Mac and cheese was wonderful! The pork chop was so juicy and presentation on all the food was perfect! Such a great trendy spot for a drink and app or full on dinner. Greta location! we will be back! Every staff member we came in contact with was so nice and professional and in a time where everyone is super busy and short staff that certainly goes a long way. I made reservations for their Christmas dinner which was advertised as farm to table with a delicious looking menu. Arrived before 4:30 for our seating only to stand in line for about 44 minutes. Asked to prepay $75 per person with tax and gratuity making it $90. We were then given ticket and directed to banquet room for a buffet. The ad did not mention buffet. The tables were bare metal without tablecloths. We were directed to sit "wherever ". The salads were not as advertised but a make your own with most of the toppings and dressing gone already with no plans to replenish anything while we were there. What was left of vegetables were cold as was everything else. The charcuterie board was 10x18 for close to 100 people and looked like it was dropped. There was a nice looking roasted turkey with a person with a carving knife but you were given processed turkey from pan next to it. Apparently it was only for show. Only drinks available were water and coffee which you had to get yourself. The only table service were about three people clearing plates. The desserts were store bought from Walmart I suspect This was a big rip off read more

We reserved a specific area in the restaurant approximately 2 months prior for my son and daughter-in-laws anniversary and renewal of wedding vows for a group of 12. I actually visited the restaurant twice prior and spoke with the day manager who was extremely polite. Despite some initial confusion with our reservation, Jack (the manager) and his servers were AMAZING, polite and wore masks as we had several vulnerable people in our group. We sure appreciated the wearing of masks as it's not required by law. Our service was exceptional, and the food was fantastic-- especially the calamari appetizer. In fact, my 18 month old grandson couldn't get enough of the calamari! Jack, the manager, helped to pull it all off for us. I do wish they have a few more selections for main dishes as well as a couple of Vegan dishes, but let's face it folks: restaurants are short-handed, and this one just opened and they are all vying for the same labor pool! We need to be patient and let the Castillo Craft Bar and Kitchen find its equilibrium. In the meantime, I am a fan and will be going back. It's a beautiful restaurant, you can actually speak to each other inside (good acoustics), and the food is great. Give it a try. read more
