I don't normally write reviews for special events such as Valentine's Day as I don't feel like they are representative of the entire experience on a regular day but I had such an amazing experience at this place that I have to write about it. First off, parking is impossible lol. This weekend there was no parking at the hotel and no valet parking so we needed to park across the street at the garage, which was fine and even though it was so busy we were still able to find a spot and walk back over. When we walked in and were shown to our table, I was handed a beautiful rose. The napkins were formed so that they looked like rosebuds as well. How cute! We weren't sitting far from the kitchen so we could see all the comings and goings of the server and watching the food come up. Our server Angelica was fantastic! Not only did she recommend some wonderful drinks she kept checking on us and kept us informed on any small delays in the food coming out. We decided on getting the special Valentine's Tasting Menu since it was for a limited time. We started with drinks, a West Indie Sour for me and the Sweetheart Spritz Sampler. My drink was tasty and I nursed it the entire meal. My fiance was very satisfied with the other bar drinks. The meal was awesome. I thought that the food would be too much for me to eat but it was actually just right. My favorite item? I wanted to say the Tuna Tartare (wakame salad, tuna, wasabi aioli, wonton crisp) but I think it was the Surf & Turf (1855 Kansas City Strip Steak, prawns, potato puree, broccolini, chimichurri, datil cocktail sauce, spicy remoulade). We were unaware when we made the reservation that this restaurant was inside of the Renaissance hotel so when we discovered this we honestly weren't expecting the fabulous meal we had. We ordered the birria braised short rib with street corn risotto and seasonal vegetables and the spinach & artichoke stuffed airline chicken. I switched out the polenta cake it came with for the potato purée and I'm glad I did. It was delicious and the perfect complement to the chicken. My only complaint is the portion size. I don't eat a lot so it was fine for me but if that were my daughter or brother, they would've been left hungry. We were staying at the hotel and came to the Castillo restaurant for breakfast. It was a nice place. Service: Our waiter, Frederick, was excellent. There was a large, private party there and he apologized for the longer than usual wait for our food. He provided great recommendations and checked in on us often. Food: I had the old fort breakfast Sammy, my husband had the buffalo chicken bowl, and my son had the kids pancakes. Frederick recommended I get the sandwich with the apple butter on the side since it could be overpowering. I'm glad I did, but it was nice to add some to the sandwich. The biscuit was a bit dry without any type of sauce or butter on it, so I did feel like it needed something. Otherwise, the sandwich was good and the roasted potatoes were crisp. This was a classy hidden spot in St. Augustine. You are able to park free in the garage if eating in the restaurant which is ideal for downtown. We had a nice spot close to the front. I will say the lighting was a bit dark which would be great for romance but we were having a girls night. Service was nice. We did the charcuterie board and Brussels which were delicious!! We booked dinner here and were coincidentally staying at the hotel. I saw that this restaurant had great reviews and wanted to check it out before I realized it was attached to the Marriott Renaissance. It was delicious and I would recommend it even if you're not staying at the hotel! We started at the bar and got the smoked old fashioned and the Matanzas Mist! Both were equally delicious! When we sat, our waiter Graham, was so helpful! He helped us pick out the Spanish Onion Soup, the Chopper Caesar del Castillo, and the Citrus Slow-Braised Short Rib. The croutons on the Caesar were some of the best we ever had, as they were perfectly crunchy, but still soft enough to cut. Then the short rib is award-winning, and it was easy enough to see why! It was amazing! We mentioned in our reservation that it was our anniversary, and Graham brought us out glasses of champagne to celebrate! Finally had the streak frites. The steak was no cooked medium rare but it had a great sear on it. The fries were good so not bad. Overall it is an a solid 3. We were there for a friend's birthday with a party of 7. The service was excellent, especially for our group size! We ordered: The calamari and the brussels sprouts to start, both were excellent. I could not believe how massive the order of sprouts were so keep that in mind when ordering apps. Then we ordered several cocktails. The lavender bee's knees actually had no lavender in it, which seems misleading regarding the title and was not the most balanced cocktail considering the strength of the gin and elderflower flavor. Riesling, Moscow Mules, and white tea shots were also ordered and were great. For entrees we had several orders of the Salmon, the short rib and the bao buns. Everything was incredible except for the bao buns and the truffle fries. I was disappointed with the truffle fries as there was no flavor and they were quite bland. It's connected to the Renaissance Hotel and was never busy for breakfast. We were seated right away every time by the friendly staff. While we ate they gave us plenty of helpful recommendations of what to do and see around town. The restaurant was always clean and the environment was relaxing. We never felt rushed and it was a great spot to sit and enjoy a peaceful morning. Came back for drinks in the evening at the bar for a lively crew. They too gave us all the info for night life fun. Staying at the renaissance hotel, so decided to try this place since it's downstairs. The reviews and food pictures looked great. But I didn't share the same experience. For starters they didn't have the fried fish. They said they only had 2 and ran out. I then asked for the ribeye and they said they were also out. I was appalled at a restaurant being out of their main dishes on a Saturday night. The watermelon margarita was too spicy, didn't really enjoy it. I ended up ordering the NY strip, which was ok. Dinner for 4 was north of $200. Major disappointment and waste of money. If it wasn't because it was raining, I would've gone somewhere else; I left this place hungry. Staying at the Renaissance hotel, we received breakfast at this restaurant. Nice atmosphere and vibe. Friendly servers. Not super fast food but very accommodating staff. The menu was very appealing and had some tempting choices. Omelette with spinach and tomatoes was large but overcooked and dry. The toast came unbuttered and they had to bring the butter, so it didn't melt. The Huevos Rancheros was different, no tortillas and no sauce. There were two eggs on a bed of chips with black beans, pico, and guacamole and oddly also came with buttered toast. French toast had the butterscotch syrup (extra sweet) and strawberries on top. The blueberry pancakes were thick and large (couldn't finish them) but a bit dry. The blueberries helped. So, solid choices, not perfect but worthy. read more

We got the steak satay app and it comes with a salad... however the salad was saltier than the Dead Sea. It was inedible which for the price point was tragic. In the case of Castillo Craft Bar & Kitchen, that would be an unfair assumption. While it is attached to a hotel, it doesn't imply that in its service and food quality. The menu has good variety to fit multiple tastes and cravings in terms of cuisine and size. My mom and I decided to share a salad and a burger. The Spinach & Pear is presented beautifully with goat cheese, dried cranberries, watermelon radish with candied pecans. It was the perfect size for us to share as a starter and certainly would have been good for a meal with a protein topping (chicken, shrimp, salmon, scallops are the choices). We then split the G.O.A.T. Burger. It is an incredible blend of flavors - tri-blend angus beef, cheddar, tomato, lettuce, bacon, chef's secret sauce, toasted brioche bun, and fries. It's clearly prepared fresh to order with fresh ingredients that balance each other out in terms of texture and size. The service was a little slow to start, but it could have been because other tables were seated around the same time as us. Overall, the service was attentive and friendly. I was staying in the hotel and had breakfast here each day. I thought the food was delicious and the service was great at breakfast. Try the biscuits and gravy, it was about the best I have ever had. Five stars for the breakfast room and staff! I had a dinner at the bar, the pepperoni flatbread was very good. The service however was poor. The bartender was openly showing her disdain for anyone who sat at the bar and ordered something. At one point a large group moved from the bar to a table and asked her to transfer their bill, as they walked away she yelled at the server "what about my tip!". I find this type of behavior very low class. Guests should not be exposed to an attitude from a bartender or server especially at a place that is on the finer side. I kind of wanted to get up and ask for a table myself but I was trying to have just a quick dinner. I do intend to stay at this hotel when I have business up this way, but if I see that person at the bar again I will opt for a table so as not to put her out of her way by waiting on me. read more
