He was attentive, responsive, and made sure we were taken care of throughout the evening. The food was delicious! This has been a week of visiting places I haven't been to in a few years! Back to River and Fort for lunch recently. Bummed the weather wasn't great because that rooftop view is gorgeous! We just sat on the first flooring dining area and were still looking out on the water so still wonderful. I had the river and fort burger and it was pretty tasty! Good flavor. Thick and juicy. The fryer was down so it forced me to branch out a little on my side. No fries for me - garlic smashed potatoes instead! Also good. My lunch companion had the BLT which was enormous and delicious. They have veterans united raging blonde available. Love to see a local partner, so that's what I had to drink. Our server was wonderful and the right amount of attentive. We had such a great first experience here! This was a last-minute decision, so we didn't have a reservation. We called to see if they might have a table available, and they said they could accommodate us but that there might be a 15-20 minute wait. They told us to come in so they could add us to the waitlist, so that's exactly what we did. While we waited, we headed upstairs to the bar for a drink. Luckily, we were able to find two seats at the bar, which worked out perfectly since it was me, my husband, my father-in-law and his wife. I ordered the Cannonball, and wow, it was so good! I would definitely recommend it and would absolutely order it again. My husband had the Evening Star, which he really enjoyed as well. It was definitely on the drier side, but still really good. As we were finishing our drinks, we were told our table was ready, so we headed downstairs and were seated outside on the patio. It was a hot day, but thankfully there was an umbrella over the table, which made a huge difference. It actually wasn't bad at all! And then came the moment that really impressed me about the staff. When we got upstairs to the bar, I had left my purse hanging on the back of my chair! I was carrying a few bags and must have been distracted because I completely forgot it. To my surprise, the amazing bartender actually brought my purse downstairs and found us at our table to return it. I was SO shocked that I had left it behind and so incredibly thankful that he noticed it, kept it safe, and then took the time to find us. I can't thank him enough! What an amazing and attentive staff. For an appetizer, we ordered the fried green tomatoes and WOW they were absolutely delicious! Definitely something I would order again. For my entrée, I went with the hand-cut filet, cooked medium well. It was perfect! I personally prefer steaks that are on the thinner side, not overly fatty, and nice and tender, and this was exactly what I like. I probably could have ordered it medium, but since it was my first time here, I wanted to play it safe and make sure there wasn't any blood in the center. Overall, we had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Great drinks, delicious food, a beautiful atmosphere, and most importantly, such an amazing and attentive staff. Since this was our first visit, my husband and I will definitely be making reservations ahead of time next time so we can hopefully sit upstairs and enjoy the beautiful water view. We started with the Cuban egg rolls, what a great idea, pork, ham, Swiss, pickles and mustard all packed in an egg roll wrapper. Next was the onion soup very rich and comforting . The NY Strip stuffed with Boursin cheese and garlic shrimp just incredible. French dip made with NY Strip good but not great . Show stopper of the evening was the key lime crème Brûlée, simple but simply irresistible. Went in on a random Sunday afternoon for a late lunch after walking around the area. The location is right by the fort and there was no wait when we went & we were seated right away. We seated on the indoor of first floor which was a big space and with a view of the fort. They offered to sit outside too but it was too hot. The menu has a lot of options, they were able to even accommodate my vegan dietary restrictions with no issues. We ordered 2 drinks & they were brought out very fast and both tasted great, they also had mocktail options. We ordered a vegan burger (comes with fries that were absolutely amazing) and fried shrimps. Both were cooked well and delicious. I have been twice for dinner and twice for rooftop drinks. The spot itself is absolutely beautiful -- the restaurant itself and the awesome rooftop (two different levels for options). The food is solid but hasn't blown me away, my husband also agreed. The two dinners both had slow service and it took a while to get our food and drinks. Lots of waiting for a semi pricy meal and experience. The last cocktail I ordered that was an old fashioned on their speciality list was just too sweet and a little funky. I got a glass of wine next and that was perfectly fine. With so many places to eat in STA, this just isn't my favorite. We were in St. Augustine on a Saturday and decided to check out the spot because of the rooftop bar. The funny thing is we never actually made it to the rooftop! It was a bit overcast and rainy so we decided to eat inside of the dining room. This is a really nice upscale restaurant right on the waterfront and across the street from the old Fort Park. There are not any parking spaces on site so you will need to park across the street or find parking at one of the area parking lots. This is a very congested area so don't get caught off guard like we did. Come early so you can find a spot to park because you'll probably need to walk a bit. That being said, this is a very nicely decorated restaurant. They have a bar immediately to the right upon entering, and then the dining room to the left. They have several hostesses so service was not an issue at all. Our server was very attentive and did a great job of explaining everything on the menu. We ordered a variety of items off of the menu, including the stuffed steak, the pork chops, the seafood platter and the short rib dish. Everybody enjoyed their dishes and drinks. The only caveat I would add about this spot is the overall price point. Four people plus tip was just north of $380 and this was a Saturday afternoon before 5 PM. And only one round of drinks. So make sure your pocketbook is just as prepared as your stomach if you decide to hit this spot. read more

The pickled veggies with the goat cheese crumbles and bacon. It was very well balanced. I was super excited about the entree after the appetizer. We both ordered the Ocean Platter and while it looks beautiful it fell flat. The scallops were not seared very well. The fresh catch was a pumpkin swordfish and it was under seasoned. The shrimp were just plain shrimp, nothing special. The rice was crunchy around the edges. Our waitress was not attentive. For the price it was incredibly disappointing. Please make sure you make reservations, especially during special event holidays such as the night of lights we were able to get a table for two after waiting, but if you're a large party, you need a reservation! My food was not so great, although the wedge salad was very good. had the double pork chop with apples, collard greens, and baked beans. No complaints on the chop...it was cooked perfectly. The sides, however, looked used and abused, as if they had been reheated three or four times. I didn't eat them at all, so all I had was meat for dinner. My companion had a seafood fisherman's platter (broiled) over rice with a beurre blanc sauce which she said was delicious. The ambiance was less than impressive. I sat facing a wall. Such a great experience. And that's how I would describe this restaurant. Start upstairs on the open rooftop for a drink by the fire and the view of the river and the fort. Afterwards, prepare yourself for an amazing meal and impeccable service. I had the sangria on the rooftop and dinner was the stuffed strip. It was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! They also have a wide variety of different wines, so we were able to pick out the perfect one (with the help of our knowledgeable server) It's expensive, so bring your wallet. We put our name in, and they told us the wait would be about 30 minutes, the recommended we head up to the rooftop to grab a drink, if we wanted. The rooftop has two levels, the main rooftop and "The Summit," which is a few more flights of stairs up. Trust me, it's worth the climb. The views are fun and the ocean/river breeze makes it even better. There's a small food menu available on the rooftop, and while the food was meh the drinks absolutely stole the show. They were outstanding! As an added bonus there is live music, Fridays and Saturdays at The "Summit" , and Sundays on the main rooftop. A special shoutout to our waitress, Amanda. She was fantastic and gave us great recommendations for the best live music spots in the area, along with a few places to avoid. We'll definitely be back. Next time, we'll enjoy a cocktail overlooking the Matanzas River before heading downstairs to try the dining room menu. My husband and I were in town for a weekend getaway and my dad recommended River and Fort for a nice romantic dinner. We had a beautiful time. We were seated upstairs with a partial view of the water and no view of the fort. We were hoping for a better seat and this is our biggest complaint. In our reservation made over a week earlier, I had noted we were there for a romantic special occasion, so I guess I had expected them to seat us a little better. The calamari was very good and I liked the peppers mixed in. EXCELLENT old fashioned. My husbands chicken was a well rounded southern dish but there was nothing "dumpling" about it. It was absolutely freezing, so much so that all of the windows had condensation We were sat pretty quickly and the waitress came up right away. We ordered water and I had a glass of "butter" wine for $14 and we also ordered the fried green tomatoes which had goat cheese and like a pickled onions on top. That was probably the only thing that was worthy out of our meal. I asked if they served any bread and she said they had a small ciabatta loaf and it was nine dollars. We did not get that. It's a good thing we didn't because we barely finished half of our appetizer before dinner was served. The Chardonnay had a unique flavor to it. Almost like a fake butter flavor. I ordered the ocean platter, which had 4 ounces of the chefs catch which today I believe was red snapper, three shrimp, two scallops, with stirfry vegetables, and a ginger rice My husband had the stuffed New York strip steak, which was stuffed with a soft cheese and two shrimp served over a saffron risotto also with stirfry vegetables My scallops were barely warm, my shrimp was probably about room temperature. I definitely feel that they were pre-cooked prior and were not heated up enough, and the fish was the only thing that came out steaming hot. They were supposed to have some sort of a sauce drizzled on top, but I did not see any or taste any and I had to hunt down the waitress to get some on the side. The rice was very bland and even the stir fried vegetables didn't taste fresh and warm. My husband steak was just OK his shrimp was also cold as was the risotto and the same stirfry vegetables that I had. Looking at my photos that I uploaded the last time we were here. I had the steak salad and I remember that was very good and this was part of the reason we came back. This place is lovely on the inside, it's very open and takes advantage of the natural light of st Augustine very well. Our server was friendly and very helpful in helping us pick our dishes. We started with an order of the fried pickle hush puppies. These came out very fresh, and they were super tasty. The sauce was a really nice addition. I love when restaurants around here use the datil pepper right, and they definitely got it right. For mains, I got the scallops and my companion got the stuffed New York strip. The scallops were cooked really nicely, but I could've used more of the corn and fennel chow chow. The lardons were an excellent addition to a dish that would've otherwise been too sweet. The New York strip was cooked perfectly and overall a great dish. The shrimp was the star of the dish though, which felt odd for a steak dish. Both of our dishes came with the risotto which was a little gummy and stiff for our taste. It could've had better execution. We also ordered a side of the duck fat potatoes which were nicely cooked but unfortunately understated. Otherwise, we were both very happy with our meals. The cocktails here were also on point. The restaurant feels almost like several different venues in one, with different seating options and vibes on each floor. The location is stunning, right in the heart of St. Augustine. Whatever your mood, River & Fort has a setting to match. I once went to River & Fort with no reservation and a party of 10 and the staff was extremely accommodating. They let us enjoy cocktails on the patio while waiting for a table, seated us quickly, and managed our large group with ease. Service was attentive throughout the meal and they split our checks with no problem. My favorite dish was the lobster roll! My only small critique is the second floor patio heaters. On a chilly night, there weren't many available, even though the first floor heaters remained unused. We toughed it out, but a little extra warmth would've made the experience perfect. Overall, River & Fort is a gem (I actually prefer it over their sister restaurant, River & Post in Jax). We shared the bread which was great, it was savory and came warm with a sweet butter. For dinner we had the double lobster tails and the tuna. Double lobster tails were good but wish they had a little more flavor. Tuna steak was cooked excellently but it was served on a bed of HOT rice with a side of leafy greens and cucumbers so the dish itself didn't make sense. Also came with a pile of flash fried rice noodles on top that I didn't eat nor did a table neighbor so seemed pointless to put that much on there. Went for brunch on a rainy Sunday to meet a friend. The restaurant occupies both the first and second floor of the building they're in. We sat on the second floor in a booth facing the fort, even on a dreary day it was a stunning view! It honestly was even more impactful seeing the castillo in such a light! Also despite the rain, we could still see the whole river and the lighthouse. We sat inside, but I bet seats outside would be even better! So a visit was worth it even just for the view! We ordered the cannonball shrimp which were very similar to Bonefish's bang bang shrimp, with their own spin. They were the perfect start! Then we ordered a chicken Caesar salad, French onion soup, and beet salad! The French onion soup absolutely hit the spot for a cold rainy day, then the two salads were refreshing and light for lunch fare! Notably, the beet salad is 95% beets, with little greens underneath. If that's your thing, you'd love it, but if you're looking for more salad with less beets, then maybe pass! But we loved what we got. Lastly, our waitress, Megan, was so sweet and not only helped us pick some great lunch options, but also mad suggestions on other things to do around the city on a rainy day!
