Such a great experience. And that's how I would describe this restaurant. Start upstairs on the open rooftop for a drink by the fire and the view of the river and the fort. Afterwards, prepare yourself for an amazing meal and impeccable service. I had the sangria on the rooftop and dinner was the stuffed strip. It was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! They also have a wide variety of different wines, so we were able to pick out the perfect one (with the help of our knowledgeable server) It's expensive, so bring your wallet. Also, make reservations or you might not get in. Worth every penny! read more

We were in St. Augustine on a Saturday and decided to check out the spot because of the rooftop bar. The funny thing is we never actually made it to the rooftop! It was a bit overcast and rainy so we decided to eat inside of the dining room. This is a really nice upscale restaurant right on the waterfront and across the street from the old Fort Park. There are not any parking spaces on site so you will need to park across the street or find parking at one of the area parking lots. This is a very congested area so don't get caught off guard like we did. Come early so you can find a spot to park because you'll probably need to walk a bit. That being said, this is a very nicely decorated restaurant. They have a bar immediately to the right upon entering, and then the dining room to the left. They have several hostesses so service was not an issue at all. Our server was very attentive and did a great job of explaining everything on the menu. We ordered a variety of items off of the menu, including the stuffed steak, the pork chops, the seafood platter and the short rib dish. Everybody enjoyed their dishes and drinks. The only caveat I would add about this spot is the overall price point. Four people plus tip was just north of $380 and this was a Saturday afternoon before 5 PM. And only one round of drinks. So make sure your pocketbook is just as prepared as your stomach if you decide to hit this spot. read more

This place we went to on a whim and it actually worked out for the better! They had more good food on their menu as oppose to the restaurant that we initially planned to go to. Service was fast! We sat outside and we were able to see the water and the sailboats. It was really nice. I got the river and fort burger but with the plant burger with fries. It was delicious! Great first time experience dining at here. Please make sure you make reservations, especially during special event holidays such as the night of lights we were able to get a table for two after waiting, but if you're a large party, you need a reservation! Our waiter was slammed with tables, but it was really great service as he communicated that putting our orders in would lead to shorter wait times which I really appreciate. We ordered a bottle of Meiomi Pinot Noir, and for appetizers we started with the fried green tomatoes. They came out crispy and fresh. They also had a goat cheese topping with pickled vegetables, and chili sauce. We were seated upstairs overlooking a window, which was a great view of the street and all the lights as well as the river. It was a very lively night with every table full, and the bar was packed! For entrée we split the special of the night, which was a ribeye that came with diced potatoes and crispy zucchini strips. For dessert, we got the chocolate mousse which was refreshing. We were in Saint Augustine, and we had never tried this restaurant. The restaurant is gorgeous inside. We sat upstairs which we could see the water. There is an elevator that they take you up. Sean our server was very sweet and personable. Every dish we tried was delicious and fresh ingredients were definitely used. I recommend the cannonball shrimp and calamari to start. The shrimp and lobster pasta was delicious as well as mac & cheese. But the hummingbird cake was a wonderful way to end the meal. The entire staff was so nice. In fact we went back and had drinks later in the evening just because it was one of our favorite places we had been to in Saint Augustine. I would definitely go back. read more

Had an early dinner here. The FRIED GREEN TOMATOES - Goat Cheese, Crispy Bacon, Pickled Vegetables, Sweet Datil Chili Sauce were probably a lot better than average. My main of FRENCH DIP - Roast Beef, French Bread, Caramelized Onions, Provolone, Au Jus, Hand-Cut Fries, was very enjoyable. The location is great -- out of the way, still close enough to everything, basically on the water. The major fail they had was a shift meeting. Okay, shift meetings happen but the table servers bringing water to the tables while the meeting is going on need to be trained a little better. When asking for something other than flat water the response that was coming back is, "we are not allowed to do that." What? Okay, I guess that is in reference to the shift meeting, and though it is probably literally correct, it is just a bad vibe for people sitting frustrated at tables. read more

My food was not so great, although the wedge salad was very good. had the double pork chop with apples, collard greens, and baked beans. No complaints on the chop...it was cooked perfectly. The sides, however, looked used and abused, as if they had been reheated three or four times. I didn't eat them at all, so all I had was meat for dinner. My companion had a seafood fisherman's platter (broiled) over rice with a beurre blanc sauce which she said was delicious. The ambiance was less than impressive. I sat facing a wall. She sat looking out over the restaurant at the other patrons. It was very, very noisy. The prices were what you'd expect from an upscale tourist restaurant...$$$. Went for brunch on a rainy Sunday to meet a friend. The restaurant occupies both the first and second floor of the building they're in. We sat on the second floor in a booth facing the fort, even on a dreary day it was a stunning view! It honestly was even more impactful seeing the castillo in such a light! Also despite the rain, we could still see the whole river and the lighthouse. We sat inside, but I bet seats outside would be even better! So a visit was worth it even just for the view! We ordered the cannonball shrimp which were very similar to Bonefish's bang bang shrimp, with their own spin. They were the perfect start! Then we ordered a chicken Caesar salad, French onion soup, and beet salad! The French onion soup absolutely hit the spot for a cold rainy day, then the two salads were refreshing and light for lunch fare! Notably, the beet salad is 95% beets, with little greens underneath. If that's your thing, you'd love it, but if you're looking for more salad with less beets, then maybe pass! But we loved what we got. Lastly, our waitress, Megan, was so sweet and not only helped us pick some great lunch options, but also mad suggestions on other things to do around the city on a rainy day! My husband and I were in town for a weekend getaway and my dad recommended River and Fort for a nice romantic dinner. We had a beautiful time. We were seated upstairs with a partial view of the water and no view of the fort. We were hoping for a better seat and this is our biggest complaint. In our reservation made over a week earlier, I had noted we were there for a romantic special occasion, so I guess I had expected them to seat us a little better. The calamari was very good and I liked the peppers mixed in. EXCELLENT old fashioned. My husbands chicken was a well rounded southern dish but there was nothing "dumpling" about it. The braised short ribs were tender but a touch too salty. Dessert was fabulous. it's hard to mess up anything with fruit, pastry, and ice cream. Our server was great. We came here for my birthday dinner. It is a 40 minutes drive for us, but downtown Saint Augustine is a great area to visit. We walked in at about 445 on a Thursday afternoon and there was not a single table with people. We were the first. She asked if we wanted inside or outside and since we just walked from the parking garage in 90° weather, we opted for inside. It was absolutely freezing, so much so that all of the windows had condensation We were sat pretty quickly and the waitress came up right away. We ordered water and I had a glass of "butter" wine for $14 and we also ordered the fried green tomatoes which had goat cheese and like a pickled onions on top. That was probably the only thing that was worthy out of our meal. I asked if they served any bread and she said they had a small ciabatta loaf and it was nine dollars. We did not get that. It's a good thing we didn't because we barely finished half of our appetizer before dinner was served. The Chardonnay had a unique flavor to it. Almost like a fake butter flavor. I ordered the ocean platter, which had 4 ounces of the chefs catch which today I believe was red snapper, three shrimp, two scallops, with stirfry vegetables, and a ginger rice My husband had the stuffed New York strip steak, which was stuffed with a soft cheese and two shrimp served over a saffron risotto also with stirfry vegetables My scallops were barely warm, my shrimp was probably about room temperature. I definitely feel that they were pre-cooked prior and were not heated up enough, and the fish was the only thing that came out steaming hot. They were supposed to have some sort of a sauce drizzled on top, but I did not see any or taste any and I had to hunt down the waitress to get some on the side. The rice was very bland and even the stir fried vegetables didn't taste fresh and warm. My husband steak was just OK his shrimp was also cold as was the risotto and the same stirfry vegetables that I had. Looking at my photos that I uploaded the last time we were here. I had the steak salad and I remember that was very good and this was part of the reason we came back. We visited River and Fort on a Sunday night around 6pm. We had a reservation, and they seated us upstairs immediately. This place is lovely on the inside, it's very open and takes advantage of the natural light of st Augustine very well. Our server was friendly and very helpful in helping us pick our dishes. We started with an order of the fried pickle hush puppies. These came out very fresh, and they were super tasty. The sauce was a really nice addition. I love when restaurants around here use the datil pepper right, and they definitely got it right. For mains, I got the scallops and my companion got the stuffed New York strip. The scallops were cooked really nicely, but I could've used more of the corn and fennel chow chow. The lardons were an excellent addition to a dish that would've otherwise been too sweet. The New York strip was cooked perfectly and overall a great dish. The shrimp was the star of the dish though, which felt odd for a steak dish. Both of our dishes came with the risotto which was a little gummy and stiff for our taste. It could've had better execution. We also ordered a side of the duck fat potatoes which were nicely cooked but unfortunately understated. Otherwise, we were both very happy with our meals. The cocktails here were also on point. The restaurant feels almost like several different venues in one, with different seating options and vibes on each floor. The location is stunning, right in the heart of St. Augustine. You can people watch at a table next to the sidewalk, enjoy the dining rooms across multiple floors, sip cocktails on the second-floor patio, or even head up to the rooftop for beautiful river views. Whatever your mood, River & Fort has a setting to match. I once went to River & Fort with no reservation and a party of 10 and the staff was extremely accommodating. They let us enjoy cocktails on the patio while waiting for a table, seated us quickly, and managed our large group with ease. Service was attentive throughout the meal and they split our checks with no problem. My favorite dish was the lobster roll! My only small critique is the second floor patio heaters. On a chilly night, there weren't many available, even though the first floor heaters remained unused. We toughed it out, but a little extra warmth would've made the experience perfect. Overall, River & Fort is a gem (I actually prefer it over their sister restaurant, River & Post in Jax). Decided to stop in here during our first night in Saint Augustine. We heard they were known for their rooftop bar/dining area but unfortunately it was raining so that wasn't an option. We sat inside and ordered the sticky ribs as an appetizer, they were very good! I ordered the burger medium and when it arrived it was well done & pretty burnt on the exterior. Because of this it didn't really taste like anything, that being said the fries were pretty good. The service alright, nothing great. Our server was sweet but didn't refill our waters once or ask if we wanted another glass of wine. Overall I'd say there are much better dining options in the area for the price. Charred Miso Glazed Salmon with lemongrass butter, wasabi almonds, honey glazed carrots over Savannah Red Rice. We added an order of Oysters along side tender chicken wings with a spicy sauce. We ate and laughed. Talking about old times while creating new memories. The food is excellent and the price is steep. We went to River and Fort to try their roof top lounge but we were too early, so we decided to stay for lunch. Mirela, our server, guided us through, as we did not want to have leftovers. Our motel frig was broken. We started with bloody marys. They were the best we have had although they could have been garnished better. For food we decided on calamari and a wedge salad. Both were excellent and unfortunately we couldn't finish either. Excellent views and one of the most beautiful restaurants I've been to. All the staff were pleasant and friendly. Because of the crowds, we had to park in the downtown garage and walk, but honestly, it ended up being a nice stroll back afterward with all the lights and energy in the area. I was warned by two coworkers to not buy into the hype over this place. In their opinion, the food was mediocre, service average. I now understand why they feel this way. While the service was good for us, I had what was quite possibly one of the worst club sandwiches ever. It was mostly bread and lettuce, but the killer was the 'artisan' bacon on it. The chef's idea of adding this tough, chewy shoe sole to the sandwich instead of thinner, crispy bacon was a fail. It made for one bite becoming a tug of war. I surrendered to the bacon, removed it, and battled the lettuce and bread. So, unless you're going to the bar or rooftop, I would scratch this off your St. Augustine to-do list. read more

Absolutely amazing! I ordered the stuffed strip steak with a compound butter on a bed of risotto and roasted veggies. This steak, and matter of fact this whole dish, is a top 3 for me. It was that amazing. Full of robust flavors that balanced it out so well. My wife ordered the wild mushroom risotto with roasted Brie and an add-on of grilled chicken for protein. Amazing!!
