The Surf & Turf Fried Rice - The flavors of the Food were delicious. The filet mignon had a great flavor, but was not quiet as tender, as I would have preferred, for a sensitive palet. Overall, the dish was delicious. The Mahi Mahi was cooked deliciously. The sides were over-seasoned, for our tastes. However, many may enjoy this. So, it is entirely a personal preference. The Ambience was very nice, with many locals patronizing. The wait was as expected and the Service was excellent. We would gladly return to Blackfly in the future. Expect a meal for two with coke products to cost a Franklin, with tip a Jackson. read more

We wanted to place a To Go order for seven people by phone but couldn't get through, so went in to order. The staff is friendly and the food is very nice (especially the pizzas and linguica meal), plus had a beer in the bar while waiting for our order, again good staff. But when back at the house to eat we noticed a side of chicken for one of the salads was left out, and it was on the receipt. We still couldn't get through by phone and when trying to submit a comment on the "Contact Us" page of their website, after entering all the info there is no way to actually submit it. read more

My husband made a dinner reservation for us here tonight and I am so glad he did because it was excellent. The interior of the restaurant is very bright, colorful and artsy with many pictures of fish artwork on the walls. The music was also a nice addition. The menu offers plenty of good sounding appetizers and entrees. I opted for the seafood and grits dish. It had scallops and shrimp over parmesan polenta, along with various vegetables. It was a very tasty dish. My husband had the surf and turf fried rice. It looked and tasted great. My mother in law had the hastings chicken dish. She also loved her meal. Went on a Monday night as the dinner rush was winding down. Ordered the margarita pizza and the cashew steak. They both arrived to the table cold and the cheese on the pizza wasn't melted anymore. St Augustine seems to have so many amazing restaurants, and BlackFly is no exception. We stopped by on a popular Saturday night, and we were quickly seated - I do recommend reservations online which made things easier. Our server Feliza had a great energy, quickly brought drinks, and made recommendations for entrees. I had the surf and turf fried rice which was indescribable in terms of how tasty it was. All of the items arrived fresh and very creatively prepared. We even enjoyed a peach cobbler ala mode for dessert. Pricing all-in ran about $60 per person, a great value considering the wonderful environment, excellent service, and amazing tasting food. While the building is nothing to speak of from the outside, once inside it's a beautiful setting to enjoy a meal, or sit at the bar. The bar area is off to the right, while the dining room is to the left, a nice touch to keep the volume in the dining room at a level to enjoy conversation. Overall, this was one of my favorite meals in the St Augustine area - we will be back. read more

For our entrée, my wife ordered Seafood & Grits with grilled shrimp and scallops, topped with cherry tomatoes; I ordered Fried Shrimp with fries and a vegetable medley. Server greeted us and did mention that there would be an automatic gratuity added since we were a "larger party" didn't say what the percentage was. Overall, he was personable and did a nice job. I'll just discuss the food that my wife and I had. Me a spicy Bloodmary with Tito's (not spicy and didn't taste the vodka).... Wife ordered the Citrus Basil Tini, really liked it. I also had an All American Beer which was good. We had the bread service with pesto and sun dried tomato butter. Which was excellent. My wife had the Shrimp and Scallop Udon Noodles, she said it was very good. I had the Surf and Turf Fried Rice, really salty, steak tips were perfectly cooked but the shrimp was way over cooked. Also a small portion compared the other meals at the table. When the bill came I noticed we had been doubled tipped on my check 50%, I mentioned it to server, he apologized for the mistake and changed it to 25%.... I generally tip 20-30% based on the service, but I think it's a bit bold of a restaurant to add a 25% automatic gratuity. I'm sure the staff like's it. This was one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time--especially for the price. We were seated outside on flimsy plastic chairs that were far too low for the table, making it uncomfortable from the start. At 6:30 PM, we were already told they were out of one of the first appetizers we ordered, that early in the evening. The food only got worse from there. The crabcake appetizer was terrible and seemed to have little to no actual crab in it. The filet mignon was a poor-quality end cut with the chain still attached--tough and full of gristle. My husband ended up spitting out every other bite. The chicken parmesan came out with no marinara sauce at all, and despite asking for it, the server said she would bring some and never did. My brother in law ordered mashed potatoes with his steak and got fries. When he brought it to our server's (Cosette) attention, she argued with him and said he had not ordered mashed potatoes When we asked for A1 sauce, we were told, "we tried to find it last night but couldn't." The manager then suggested mixing Worcestershire sauce and ketchup as a substitute, claiming it was basically the same What was most frustrating was the complete lack of accountability. After we paid (in cash), my husband politely asked to speak with the manager and made it clear we were not looking for anything complimentary--just providing feedback. She acknowledged that everything we said was valid, yet never apologized or made any effort to make things right--not even a simple gesture like offering a drink or dessert. As we stood up to leave, she grabbed our check and quickly counted the cash at the table as if she suspected we hadn't paid correctly. Then, incredibly, she went to a neighboring table and complained about us. Between the terrible food, disorganized service, and shockingly unprofessional management, this experience was completely unacceptable. This place is far too expensive to be this bad. We loved this place! Early dinner for us. Not too crowded and not too loud. We started with drinks from the bar. Black Fly Saturn and Pumpernickel Spritz. Both were very good. Calamari was the appetizer. My husband is somewhat of a connoisseur of calamari and rated this at the top of his list. Main courses were Furikake crusted ahi tuna with pickled vegetables and rice with a fantastic sauce. Husband had Fried rice surf and turf. Everything was cooked to perfection and super flavorful! We shared our table with 2 family members. One ordered Hastings chicken. OMG! Her plate was served with inedible grilled white CABBAGE leaves. I was able to identify them because I taught Plant Taxonomy at AZ State U. Chicken "bites" were heavily battered and probably fried in too hot oil of some kind. Some kind of miniature shredded potato noodles were also inedible. Inside a thick batter was RAW cold chicken! She told me she had nausea and was sick all day. Her significant other ordered overpriced triggerfish that was smothered in some type of glop. My DC had salmon that he said was OK and accompanied by undercooked green beans that he didn't eat. I finally opted for a plate of "Mexican corn salad." First I fished out raw red onions that I don't like and set them aside. I counted a few miniature blue tortilla strips and about a dozen corn kernels sprinkled w a tiny portion of some kind of cheese. Dressing on the "salad" which consisted of maybe 1/16 pkg of spinach leaves had no taste. Our server asked how everything was--the wrong Q! The narrative described the lousy chicken and cabbage presentation. She was offered a "dessert" for her horrible meal. Supposedly "peach cobbler" looked like watery peach jam over some type if baked floury thing that was way TOO sweet. The first glass of no-name wine was $10 and her second was $12! The leadership and staff provided us were great and the private room was excellent for the occasion with plenty of space! I think the drinks were really good too and reasonably priced. I was able to try the fried rice, and I would say it's a 4/5 and the conch chowder a 3/5. The tikis punch was a 5/5! One of the best restaurant I've been in St. Augustine. This place was recommended by my in-laws since they mentioned this place has great seafood dishes and indeed they are correct. Inside looks decorative with fly fishing decorations and different kind of fish display which helped kept my son distracted. We scheduled a reservation since we heard this place will be busy on Friday night. Service was great, our server was descriptive and polite. For drink, got to tried their Silver Eclipse, from the drink special menu, which was tequila with raspberry liqueur and blackberry purée. For food, we started with the Bahamian conch soup followed with the Brazilian Moqueca. The conch soup was tasty and fresh and the Brazilian Moqueca was one of the best coconut fish dish I've ever tried. We started off with cocktails including a Peach Lychee Martini & a Prickly Pear Martini. Both were wonderful. We then enjoyed cups of conch chowder which was thick & spicy, so very good! The conch fritters were also delicious! Main courses were the scallops with angel hair pasta, the pork chops, and the lobster tails. Again, great stuff and everything was cooked perfectly. There was a long delay on our main courses for some reason. However our server was upset about it also and offered us free desserts to compensate. Stopped in for dinner on 12/30. Even accounting for the busier crowd due to nights of lights, we were disappointed ... and eventually disgusted. My family of three had to wait nearly 20 minutes despite having a reservation. We eventually were seated in the shore room - not nearly as pleasant and environment as the main dining room, and as luck would have it on this night, also next to a party of about 20 that took most of the service's attention and rendered our service pretty inattentive. Reading the room, we opted to start with three dishes to share and feel out the meal from there. As it turns out, our salad had limp greens, the pizza had flaccid dough/crust, and the classically prepared red snapper was just okay. Our server had said it would be another 15 minutes or so for the fish dish (this was after we'd finished the salad and pizza) because of how busy the kitchen was, only for it to arrive literally 15 seconds after he walked away - though sadly it looked and tasted like a rushed dish, inexcusable for the price. We decided to cut our losses and ask for the check at this point. Turned out to be overpriced, too. And then came the disgusting part. On the way out, my wife and daughter stopped in the restroom, only to be greeted by not one, not two, but THREE cockroaches! Two of them dead, one of them alive and crawling around - suggesting that not only was the staff not paying appropriate attention to the restroom, but that there are some seriously gnarly underlying cleanliness concerns at this place. Blackfly is a great spot in St Augustine. They have a combination of fine dining and bar seating. The wine selection looks extensive and the cocktails are a treat. We started with conch fritter cauliflower and shrimp appetizers. All were delicious. We had several main dishes including mixed grill. Sheepshead special. Surf and turf fried rice and the bangers and mash spin with Portuguese sausage. The banana bread pudding didn't disappoint either. Our server Ava was very attentive and friendly.
