Great experience, location and food. We went in for the lobster roll, but decided to split the fries topped with clam chowder, and garlic bread instead. You go in and order at the counter, we chose an outside table, made of whiskey barrel. It was fun, eating under, I believe they were magnolia trees. The was sufficient shade for this warm sunny day. Only a couple of tables had interfering sun issues. The garlic bread tasted AWESOME. We believe they were made out of the same bread they use for their lobster rolls. Nice spot with a cool vibe. Caleb was very helpful giving us several suggestions to enjoy during our visit. We ordered at the window and sat outside to enjoy our Main Lobster Rolls and Clam Chowder. We chose the warmed lobster roll with melted butter. The bun was nice and buttery, the lobster was cooked perfectly and tender meat inside. A really enjoyable spot, especially if you catch it on a good day. We visited on a Sunday and were treated to live music on a shaded patio, which was a perfect escape on a hot afternoon. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip. The food delivered too. The lobster roll at $28 gives you pause, but it earns its price tag and is genuinely worth it. The fried shrimp basket was also a winner, with delicious shrimp as the highlight. Skip the fries and go for the onion rings instead. This was a great find, nothing fancy. Walk inside order from the menu on the wall and find a seat in the courtyard or upstairs. They give you a buzzer and you pick up your order and return to your seat and begin the most enjoyable/favorable/ rich clam chowder and the most juicy and flavorful full belly clams, spit of Cape Cod. Very good and worth the market price. On a personal preference point, not a fans of the french fries with that seasoning coating. Otherwise great New England treat. Overall we liked DJ's. The food was good but typical for a seafood shack. It definitely has a feel of a beachside hangout. Next time I'd skip the conch fritters (mediocre) and opt for the lobster roll which looked amazing. We'll definitely try it again on our next St Augustine visit. read more

Great seafood spot right in St. Augustine. Quick service counter, so no worries about a wait staff. They had a nice outdoor patio with live music for lunch. Been to the Key West location. First time at this location and so much closer to home!! Friendly and fast service. Loved the shaded outdoor seating area, with additional indoor seating upstairs. Me and my family spent the day in St Augustine, visiting Fort Mose to close out Black History Month(excellent history of enslaved people in that area). We had already planned to eat at DJ's Clam Shack, a favorite since visiting Key West and promoted by Guy Fieri, Food Network. The lobster rolls are the best, you must get it hot, the bread, fresh lobster meat with butter will melt in your mouth and the coleslaw is very fresh. The conch fritters, fries and clams were all tasty and very delicious. The staff are very friendly and patient. There is inside and outside seating, we decided to eat outside, 75 degrees and a light breeze so remember DJ's Clam Shack on Hypolita the next time you visit St Augustine. read more

This little restaurant was not at all what we expected. We were greeted warmly and instructed to order at the counter, which makes everything quick and easy if you're also in a hurry. It had a coastal rock vibe, they played a lot of Aerosmith which was super fun. They also had adorable merchandise and free refills. It's a seat yourself with adorable little bar tops and stools and a coupe booths, it was coastal scenic and had some really neat decorations, not to mention Guy Fieri approved, with his signature and all! There was a small selection of beer but we opted out this time. We ordered the coconut shrimp and clam strips, which also came with fries! The clam strips were juicy and crispy, which I was hesitant to try because I'm picky about seafood, the texture was perfection! We ordered ranch on the side for a safe bet but their ranch is honestly out of this world, it was thick with a phenomenal dill flavor and still had the buttermilk bite. The coconut shrimp ended up being very large pieces of shrimp and butterflied. It was also crisp to perfection but still juicy, it came with a Thai chili sauce that I wanted to dip everything in. Lastly, this may be less important but they offered malt vinegar which is not common where I'm from but I was thrilled they had it. The bread was nice buttery and toasty but the lobster filling was a bit on the bland side and very little. I was expecting more taste and a bigger amount of lobster for the price. I've been to dj's clamshack in key west, so I had to try this closer location. When I went to the key west location no lie my lunch lobster roll was so amazing I went back later that same day for dinner. Unfortunately the lobster roll in st aug didn't wow me like that. For the price i would say the amount of food was adequate. The buttery toasted bun was delicious. However the lobster itself was just ok- bland and not quite thawed enough. Also would have liked the lobster to be cut up a little bit easier to eat. I also can't stand the unlisted "market price" on the sign. I get if you can't print the price on the actual printed menus, but surely you can change the daily price on the sign. I also hate coleslaw so i would have rathered pay $1-$2 without it. read more

The past few years this has been an essential stop on vacation because the lobster rolls are absolutely delicious. We get the cold roll with fries (also so crunchy and delicious). Service is usually very quick which is another reason it's a good stop. Unfortunately, this year, both rolls had so many small bits of shell, the roll became off putting. I spit out almost every other bite. At $28 a roll, I don't want to waste any lobster but the smell made it unbearable to eat those bites. This was the case for our other roll as well. I know a piece here and there can happen, but both rolls having as any pieces as they did felt like a waste of money. Definitely finding a new lobster roll place in the future. read more

Saw this place featured on a YouTube video (Brennen Taylor) and since we were planning on visiting Saint Augustine anyway, we put this at the top of our To-Do list for places to eat. Sweet baby Jesus.... We split the overstuffed lobster roll and though it was pricey for one sandwich, it was a 10/10 worth every penny. I'd do it again. Multiple times. Ok, where do I start? I was looking for some seafood on my quick day trip to St. Aug and found DJ's on Yelp. It was such a quick walk from the Fort so it was very convenient. It is such a hidden gem! There is a cute patio area outside but it was way too hot to sit and enjoy so we went inside to cool down and get some a/c. It is counter service so you order at the front inside, and there is a pick up window to get your food after your beeper rings. The upstairs is where the seating is, with a few seating areas. Cozy seafood themed, it was perfect for the vibe. The food, like I said, where do I start? We ordered the lobster roll, clam chowder, kids shrimp meal, and chicken tacos. All were FANTASTIC. The lobster roll was loaded with meat. The chicken tacos were on an 8" tortilla. It came with two so my husband had one and I had the other. Him and I agreed that the clam chowder was the BEST that we ever had! Full of potato's and clam, it did not skimp on any of that. The taste was perfect, not too salty and not bland. The shrimp that my daughter had was amazing too! Service was excellent. The lady who worked up front checked up on us several times. Very friendly. Decided to treat myself for one of DJ's lobster rolls. Now they are pretty expensive but remember it's lobster and they do stuff that tasty bun full of lobster meat. You can get it hot with butter or the traditional way like me, cold with mayo. We were a group of people so dining friends who don't like lobster got shrimp tacos that come with fries. And another friend ordered onion rings and fried calamari with a side of chili sauce. My lobster roll was fresh and definitely stuffed well and quite filling. The roll came with a side of slaw as well. (I'm sorry my camera skills totally missed the pic.) I tasted the onion rings and they were excellent. I was told the 2 shrimp tacos that were fried were well stuffed and very good. The only disappointment was the calamari. The plus was it was Fresh and definitely not frozen however, in the kitchens haste to get it out the calamari it was underdone and the coating tasted a little raw. It needed a few more minutes and it would have been excellent. The atmosphere here is very casual. You order at the counter indoors, get a beeper and wait. Seating is all outdoors as far as I can tell. I've been here a few times and never noticed indoor seating. The outdoor seating is picnic tables and high tops. I had the over stuff and you must get the older stuff lobster roll along with the clam and we had the cup balls conch balls, which was delicious. This is a can't miss place. You will not regret not going there. We did not like the clams they were very dry and almost powdery with a weird taste. The lobster roll was big & was very good and also the fries and coleslaw were tasty. the restaurant itself was clean and cute. The staff were all super nice. I would definitely come back and try other things but if your used to New England style clams this is not it, I'm not sure if it's because they were frozen or sitting there but get something else.
