Dinner at Caps. Yep great food there. Had the flounder topped with crab over mashed potatoes and asparagus so yummy. Wife had the herb crusted flounder very tasty. Had Key-lime pie and rum cake for dessert both excellent. Was foggy so ate inside. Staff is very friendly food is amazing definitely recommend Caps. It's a 5/5.

This place completely blew us away. The restaurant is stunning and huge, with plenty of different seating areas to enjoy. Even though it was packed and we didn't have reservations, we were seated within 15 minutes. While you wait, you can grab a drink at the bar, take a walk by the beach, or enjoy the sunset from their pier, which alone makes the experience unforgettable. They also offer complimentary valet parking, which was a really nice touch and made the whole experience even more convenient The service was phenomenal from start to finish. Everyone was incredibly kind, from the hostesses to our server, who was attentive and consistently checked on us without being intrusive. Prices are very fair considering the portion sizes, quality of the food, and the unbeatable waterfront location. Nothing felt overpriced For appetizers, we had the tuna tartare and the smoked salmon bruschetta, both were absolutely delicious. I ordered one of the specials: grouper topped with a crab cake and lobster cream sauce, served with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. When I say I devoured my plate faster than I should have, I mean it, it was that good. My fiance ordered the catch preparation (grouper as well), served with rice and curry with plantains. All the seafood tasted incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned, and cooked just right We finished with the key lime pie, which was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Overall, this will definitely be one of the highlights of your trip if you're in St. Augustine. We loved everything about our experience and will absolutely be back every time we're in the city!!

Came here for the first time for my dads birthday back in August and we had the best time! They do not take reservations here to my understanding, but we came early and were seated with a beautiful view of the intercostal. The menu? Superb! It's one of those places that everyone can find something to eat. We started with their oysters and then I had an amazing salad with grilled shrimp. Yum! Our whole party enjoyed everything we ordered, and our server was 10/10! Until next time Caps!

We only had a limited amount of time. We were unable to wait 45 minutes for a table on the water. So we were seated in the garden area. Very zen. Martina was our server and she was amazing. We started with cocktails and all of them were outstanding. The American Dream, The Pain Killer, Last Bovine and the Dirty Datil Martini (very spicy). For dinner we ate relatively light as we had been to Buc-EES at 1:00 in the afternoon and were not very hungry. I and my brother in law had the gumbo which was thick & chock full of seafood. My sister had the Tuna appetizer, my husband had the blackened scallops. The presentation of every dish was beautiful and delicious. Highly recommend. The long ride was worth it.

If I must be honest CAPS is my favorite seafood restaurant. I love the vibes and the food. It's on the water it's always a nice view and an amazing breeze. The wait time today was a little longer than normal but it was shift change at 4p. My food was perfect as usual. The only thing that was new for me, I didn't know at 4p during shift change they only serve appetizers and drinks. I still was able to get my normal order but if I want able to I would've be devastated. Overall food 10/10, vibes 10/10, waitress 7/10 she was slammed with tables.

    Outside view. Beautiful trees

Perfect dining experience. From our server, Kassidy S. to the best appetizers it was stellar. Kassidy is a positive influence. I don't normally drink with my meals, but she suggested the coconut margarita and it was delicious. For our apps we ordered the Parmesan oysters and the she-crab soup. Hubs ordered the seafood trio and I got the shrimp tacos. Everything was served fresh. We didn't order dessert but they had a good variety. The views were outstanding!

First and foremost, our waitress Sarah was amazing! A group of 12 of us (coworkers) dined here on a Friday night, and were quickly sat around 6:45pm which was great! Sarah took a photo of us out on the dock which we greatly appreciated! Things were off to a great start, and we ordered drinks and appetizers. Due to my nut allergy, I clearly advised to omit nuts from the cheese plate and Sarah took down to note my allergy. When appetizers were arriving, a young gentleman said the cheese plate with no nuts. The plate was set down and I inquired about the piece on the right side as it appeared to have almonds or some sort of other nut. He said he would ask the kitchen, but believed it didn't as it was noted as no nuts. Sadly, he would never return to advise the verdict from the kitchen, so we had to ask Sarah which caused more waiting with it in front of me. It did in fact contain almonds, so I asked to have to taken and removed from the bill. Rather not eat if not going to have allergies taken seriously. Though, I couldn't really eat with my cocktails it was still a pretty atmosphere being on the water and others enjoyed their food. Some saying the highlight of the work trip to Florida. I'll note that I did safely eat Parmesan truffle fries and crème brûlée, which were great! Hence settling upon 2 stars versus 1 for handling my nut allergy poorly.

Cold draft beer on a hot summer's eve

We came here based upon the recommendation of a friend and the solid reviews. Not disappointed at all! Location is beautiful and we opted for waterfront seating. In hindsight, due to the time of day (sun just lowering to shine under the tree cover but not sunset) and the heat, we might have enjoyed the meal more inside or more under cover. Live and Learn! On the plus, the entire staff was excellent. We utilized the phone ahead waitlist and had a table immediately upon arriving. Our table server was top notch. I went Fried Shrimp and a draft beer. That cold beer was the ticket as I sat in the sun! The shrimp were incredibly good, cooked perfectly, light breading that complimented and didn't overwhelm. A definite winner. Some others had the fish and chips, and that cod was really good! The hushpuppies were solid Florida hushpuppies, no complaints at all! Great meal, lovely setting!

Caps is an amazingly wonderful restaurant. The setting is beautiful with panoramic views of the inlet. Our server Cara did an outstanding job taking care of us with great suggestions and impeccable service. The food is better than 5 stars everything had amazing flavor with perfect portions. Caps is a must have !!!

The food and the location were fantastic! It's valet only so be prepared to hand over your keys! The place was packed but we got seated right away. We had a basket of bread with amazing honey butter, salmon tatare, Gatorade tail, blackened and pan fried flounder, sweet and sour cucumbers, crab cakes, lobster ravioli, creme brulee, and a key lime cup. Everyone enjoyed their food and we all left full! Got to take pictures of tbe beautiful sunset after dinner! The location is spectacular!

Do you still have the oyster eating contest?

Yes we do. You can email us at capsonthewater@gmail.com for info. Current records are 45 dozen for men and 21 dozen for women.

    Do we need reservations today?

    No,they do not accept recervations

Do we need a reservation before coming in? You see, I'm planning to go after proposing and just want to make sure everything goes smoothly. Thank you so much!

I just called (12/19/20 @ 3:34pm) and they do not take reservations, they're taking walk ups. Some days/nights menu may be limited for certain things but for the most part, full menu. Didn't get into the specifics of the menu.

Are they currently seating larger groups? We are a group of 9, and I want to know if we will be able to get a table.

They are not taking anything larger then party of 6. They are also taking your temperature upon arrival and masks required when not seated. The food is so good, maybe you can get two tables one for kids if there are any and adults seated at another?… Read more

Going for a birthday party and I'm vegan....Am I going to be able to eat anything other than french fries?

Your fries will likely be fried in same oil as shrimp and fish. It is a really nice venue and sundown rocks. I would stick to the salads.

    Do they accept reservations?

They do not. We always try to go as early as possible to minimize the wait time but you can always grab a drink and sit on the dock!

    Is the restaurant pet friendly?

I've never seen anyone with pets there.

    Does Caps have vegetarian options?

Yes they do have items and are very accommodating at tweaking their menu to suit your needs

Arrival: There are parking lots nearby--expect to pay around $15-25. As we walked up, there was live jazz music playing in the courtyard, which set a really great vibe right away. Service: Our waiter was attentive and timely without being overbearing. Food: Everything was amazing. We started with the bread service--the truffle butter was definitely the highlight (we didn't care too much for the ricotta spread). FYI: the little cubes that look like white cheddar are *not* cheese...I learned that the hard way by biting into a square of butter. For dinner, I had the cacio e pepe and he ordered the 100 lasagna. Portions were a bit smaller than expected, but honestly fine after filling up on bread. For dessert, we shared an affogato--the espresso wasn't burnt (which is surprisingly rare), so that was a big win. Overall: After the Resy credit, parking ended up costing more than the meal, which is kind of wild. Only downside was that there are just two restrooms, and there was a line when we went. Great time overall--will definitely be back.

We started with the bread appetizer, which came with several types of fresh bread and an incredible lineup of spreads like whipped ricotta, truffle butter, regular butter, and honey. Every bread had its own distinct flavor and texture. Next up was the sausage appetizer featuring both a sweet sausage and a spicy sausage, all made in house. They were cooked perfectly and served in a flavorful sauce with peppers that tied everything together. The balance between the sweet and spicy was so good. For my entree, I ordered the lasagna, and it was pure comfort. It reminded me so much of the classic lasagna I grew up eating, layered with rich Bolognese and a creamy bechamel sauce that made it feel both nostalgic and elevated. My boyfriend went with the steak (I believe it's a New York strip) and swapped a few of the sides to his liking. The steak was absolutely cooked to perfection, a beautiful medium rare. I may or may not have stolen about four bites... and yes, it was worth it..... We were way too full for dessert, but we did enjoy a bottle of wine with dinner which made the whole experience feel like the perfect date night. The service was fantastic, the food was memorable, and it's definitely a place we'll be coming back to for many more dates!
