First stop on our trip to St Augustine and it was absolutely delicious. They have valet parking (mandatory) and a great view of the water. The food and service did not disappoint. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. She always came around to make sure we were good and didn't need anything. She also made sure we didn't feel rushed even though they were busy We ordered - Oyster Rockefeller ($22): Overpriced for what you get. It was just ok but it didn't taste bad. Wouldn't get it again for the price. - Blackened Grouper (MP - $46): it came with a curry coconut rice with plantains and pickled onions. Honestly, I don't like curry but it was pretty good. Not too heavy in tumeric flavor and the plantains made it sweet. I think I preferred the dish without the curry, as a personal preference, but it was still pretty delicious. The blackened grouper had lots of spices and flavor. - Herb-Crusted Grouper (MP - $46): traded the sides for hush puppies and coconut rice. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The fish was glistening and fresh. The coconut rice had great flavor and not too sweet. The hush puppies hit the spot and they gave you a good amount. Overall, the restaurant is pretty expensive but the food is very delicious! Spontaneously stopped in at Caps today on my way to the beach. My friend and I loved what we ordered so much. Food was fresh and fast. Great service. Yes. That should say enough. I've come to caps over many years even as a kiddo and it did not disappoint. Yes it has become more touristy and busier since but that's what is nice to see how it's grown. We had a brief wait (party of 2) for first available which we wouldn't have minded waiting longer. Dinner was phenomenal! I think I'll forever be dreaming of this meal on repeat. We started with garlic oysters and a flatbread from the specials menu. Both were delicious! The oysters were perfection. Then the catch of the day was corvina prepared herb crusted and yes about all of this dish!. Excellent bar service at the bar in the back by Poncho- good drinks - our adult kids tried several different mixed drinks all great. Had a table with an excellent water view. Brandon was excellent took great care of us. My wife had their pasta shrimp and scallops Alfredo which she loved. I had their crab cake dinner - two perfectly cooked crab cakes for sides I had asparagus and rice. Daughter had the flounder blackened with hush puppies and asparagus. The flounder was a bit dry. Private booths, tables for just about any size party you have with lots of seating inside and out with many lovely settings that offer a gorgeous view of the Tolomato River. I love the outside seating with all the greenery and foliage. It's like you're dining in an English Garden. The appetizer was phenomenal. A Pear Ravioli, with pine nuts, ricotta, parsley and Parmesan cheese. Creamy smooth with such flavor. This could have been a meal in itself. For the main I chose the Crab Cakes with smoked pepper aioli and a fresh wilted spinach for the side. Very nice portions with lots of crab and not too much breading. Very impressive. They have a very extensive and excellent wine list. The Pinot Noir was a Freelander from California. A very delicious pour and went well with the crab cakes. My husband and I went to Caps for lunch this past Sunday. It wasn't very busy, so we were seated right away. The atmosphere had an interesting vibe. We were a little surprised by the way the seating was laid out, and because the restaurant wasn't very busy, it felt somewhat empty. We were seated under the covered area, quite a distance from the water, which was a little disappointing. The service was good, but the food was pretty average overall. Nothing really stood out as a home run. We started with the smoked salmon bruschetta, which was okay but not great. I had the fish tacos with sweet potato fries, and both were good. My husband had the tuna tacos with fried spinach, and he had no complaints. I ordered the spicy margarita, which was definitely spicy! I actually enjoyed the level of heat, but the overall flavor of the drink was a little unusual. My husband had an Old Fashioned, which he really enjoyed. Overall, our experience was just okay. I'd definitely be willing to go back for dinner and try it again, preferably with a seat closer to the water. I think the atmosphere and setting might make for a very different experience in the evening, and I'd like to give Caps another chance before making a final judgment. read more

I was so pleased to come here and have a couple of drinks and snacks with good company. The service, food and ambiance were fantastic, making the evening even better! This is a place that won't seat you until the entire party has arrived (which is fine and totally fair) so we went to the bar to wait for the rest of the party. Absolutely wonderful decision. We had espresso martini, and Aperol spritz. Two drinks I could live off of, and they were near the top of the best I've had (I tried both this trip. Variety!) plus who doesn't love the color of an Aperol spritz at sunset?! Once our party arrived we were sat and we decided on just a bunch of appetizers. Had to start with Oysters. There were so many options and honestly I forget which we decided on - but the server mentioned they were a little small but tasty. Imagine our surprise when they were absolutely not small! We also had some fries which were the exact right amount of crispy and seasoned and some fish nuggets. Also perfectly crispy and seasoned. Our server was lovely. Kept our drinks full and had some fun banter with the table. Also, if you've not ever been make sure there isn't rain in the schedule because sitting outside is glorious. This spot has hands down one of the most beautiful restaurant views. My my boyfriend and I came here for six months and now we're back for our five year anniversary. It is so nostalgic to us and special. When we first got there since they don't take reservations, they said that the wait for outside was about 45 minutes but we could be seated immediately indoors. We were seated inside but after looking at the views, I knew I just wanted to be outside so we actually ended up waiting to sit outside and it was actually fine because you can sit on their beautiful elevated dock overlooking the water and they have a girl there that will take your order for any drinks or appetizers. We ended up ordering the fish dip and I got a Mojito. Both were good, but I do wish that the fish dip had a little bit more fish dip, it seemed kind of like a small amount for the price you pay. After waiting a little bit close to an hour, we were seated right by the water and it was so stunning. Our waiter was Brandon and he was very kind and attentive. We ordered our food and for my entrée I got the herb crusted flounder and that was delicious. It came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. I feel like both the entrées were perfect portions. We also got the pesto ceaser salad, and that was fine - I feel like it could have been more flavorful, but it was still fresh! It's just such a lovely view and you really feel at peace at this spot. The corcino special was very good. BAD: We were the only table in the section our waitress had, so we didnt see much of her for additional drinks. Not her fault. Fried calamari were overcooked. The spicy Thai sauce didn't go with the fried spinach and sprinkled parmesan on the calamari,; it should have been paired with the conch fritters. The fried grouper was cooked perfectly, but the vaniila rum sauce didn't go with the fish. Also, there was no wasabi to be found in the dish to offset the vanilla rum sauce. UGLY: no ugly here. This place was amazing! It was our FAVORITE place to eat while we were on vacation. The service staff were awesome and the food was delicious and flavorful! It was everything we wanted it to be. From the yummy she crab soup, to the garlic oysters to the oysters on the half shell, I was very impressed and pleased. My son's Salmon was his favorite restaurant meal in a long time and my youngest son found a new love for gator tail too. We loved the atmosphere and how the whole restaurant is laid out because it had different parts to it. The outside patio was a stunning place to dine and we would have definitely been out there enjoying the beautiful sunset if it weren't raining. This was my first time at Caps and it was a beautiful setting for a lovely dinner. Waitress 100%. Drinks 100%. Food 100%. My mother and I went to dinner here and it was a perfect evening to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the water and sunset. We had drinks and amazing meals, my mom thought the scallop and shrimp scampi pasta was a bit too spicy for her liking (it had red pepper flakes on it), and when we let our waitress (Claire) know, she was extremely accommodating with offering another option. This place completely blew us away. The restaurant is stunning and huge, with plenty of different seating areas to enjoy. Even though it was packed and we didn't have reservations, we were seated within 15 minutes. Just amazing. Food from start to finish was incredible. We started with the rock shrimp. A bit tough to peel but oh so worth it! Yum! We also had raw oysters which were briny and delicious but the shucker needs some education. None of the oysters were fully detached and there were shells, nonetheless they were delicious. We only had a limited amount of time. We were unable to wait 45 minutes for a table on the water. So we were seated in the garden area. Very zen. Martina was our server and she was amazing. We started with cocktails and all of them were outstanding. The American Dream, The Pain Killer, Last Bovine and the Dirty Datil Martini (very spicy). For dinner we ate relatively light as we had been to Buc-EES at 1:00 in the afternoon and were not very hungry. I and my brother in law had the gumbo which was thick & chock full of seafood. Tried again last night and had stale pita chips with our fish dip, salads arrived with our entrees by a very unpleasant server assistant and expensive food was sub-par. Don't even look at pictures on Yelp; they aren't representative of the food. Carrots cut in tiny squares like baby food along with exact same for potatoes. Food tasted old, def not fresh catch. Server checked on us 1 time the entire meal. So sad to see it going downhill. Out of town visitors be aware; this is not local Florida seafood! read more

Hubby decided to surprise me with a day trip to St. Augustine. He planned everything out and even googled a restaurant out away from the downtown district. We pulled up to a valet parking only restaurant. Walked up to the hostess and was shortly seated by the most pleasant hostess. The atmosphere was amazing. The whole restaurant is open outdoors but with coverage of the weather is crappy. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with the truffle fries. Hubby ordered the Ahi tacos with regular fries. First and foremost, our waitress Sarah was amazing! A group of 12 of us (coworkers) dined here on a Friday night, and were quickly sat around 6:45pm which was great! Sarah took a photo of us out on the dock which we greatly appreciated! Things were off to a great start, and we ordered drinks and appetizers. Due to my nut allergy, I clearly advised to omit nuts from the cheese plate and Sarah took down to note my allergy. When appetizers were arriving, a young gentleman said the cheese plate with no nuts. The plate was set down and I inquired about the piece on the right side as it appeared to have almonds or some sort of other nut. He said he would ask the kitchen, but believed it didn't as it was noted as no nuts. Sadly, he would never return to advise the verdict from the kitchen, so we had to ask Sarah which caused more waiting with it in front of me. It did in fact contain almonds, so I asked to have to taken and removed from the bill. Rather not eat if not going to have allergies taken seriously. Though, I couldn't really eat with my cocktails it was still a pretty atmosphere being on the water and others enjoyed their food. Some saying the highlight of the work trip to Florida. I'll note that I did safely eat Parmesan truffle fries and crème brûlée, which were great! Hence settling upon 2 stars versus 1 for handling my nut allergy poorly. read more

In hindsight, due to the time of day (sun just lowering to shine under the tree cover but not sunset) and the heat, we might have enjoyed the meal more inside or more under cover. Live and Learn! On the plus, the entire staff was excellent. We utilized the phone ahead waitlist and had a table immediately upon arriving. Our table server was top notch. I went Fried Shrimp and a draft beer. That cold beer was the ticket as I sat in the sun! The shrimp were incredibly good, cooked perfectly, light breading that complimented and didn't overwhelm. A definite winner. If I must be honest CAPS is my favorite seafood restaurant. I love the vibes and the food. It's on the water it's always a nice view and an amazing breeze. The wait time today was a little longer than normal but it was shift change at 4p. My food was perfect as usual. The only thing that was new for me, I didn't know at 4p during shift change they only serve appetizers and drinks.
